My family and I stopped here for dinner a few days ago - we were tourists in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I think we just looked up diners in the area and hoped for the best. It's either a really bad thing or a really good thing that this place is a few hours away, because I think we would visit all the time! My husband is very picky about his burgers. He likes them well done, yet juicy; this place delivered. It was a fairly large patty, but he ate nearly the entire thing. That's a definite seal of approval. My brother-in-law got the French toast and my sister-in-law got the Greek salad, both of which were apparently excellent. She said her cup of chicken ditalini soup, which was a soup of the day and came with the meal, was a little bit salty, but that didn't stop her from eating the entire thing. I got a panini with marinated grilled chicken breast, roasted red peppers, and mozzarella cheese; I could only eat half of it there, but I absolutely took home the other half. Regarding the personnel: the gentleman who was the manager, I assumed, was very polite and seated us right away. Our waiter was very polite and efficient. Overall, if/when we visit the area again, I strongly suspect we'll be visiting this diner. read more

I love trying new diners and stopped into Park Place Diner. It was early afternoon and pretty slow (but a busload of people was expected soon). The table was a bit 'sticky' so glad I had my rain jacket on. So glad it had breakfast all day! I ordered a western omelet, bacon and one pancake The food arrived quickly and was quick flavorful. Do not get off the turnpike for this place. We knew as soon as we were handed a multi page menu, we needed to order wisely. We thought we went the safe route and got the "homemade" Chili. It was finely minced burger sauce with some kidney beans thrown in. Think canned chili. So..so..thick. Not wanting to let $8 go to waste, we each eat about half the bowl until we gave in. Everyone knows that the Michelin star system ranks restaurants on how trip worthy a restaurant is. Whether it be something worth stopping for, making a detour for, or planning an entire trip for. Eating at this restaurant made me feel as though the confines of the Michelin star system is too restrictive. I propose that they implement a negative star ranking to indicate restaurants that it is worth driving a significant distance to literally anywhere else other than here. And then that this restaurant receives a single negative Michelin star. Firstly, the menu is much too large, something that is a detriment to many diners, but is exacerbated here. I've never been handed a menu with two DIFFERENT meatloafs listed before. Whats more, the table next to me asked about the meatloafs to which the waitress working that section told them that it is their most ordered item but half the people who order it have it sent back. I felt like Gordon Ramsey in an episode of kitchen nightmares hearing that. What do you mean your most popular item has such a high rate of people returning it that you feel the need to warn customers against ordering it? On the topic of waitstaff, there is a good amount of training that seems to be missing. Not that they should be held to the same level as a fine dining restaurant, but they should at least be trained to write down daily specials and daily cake offerings instead of telling customers to "go up to the front to look at what is available". I overheard one of the other waitresses saying that she didn't even know the menu had a dessert section. How can you expect the employees working the floor to sell food if they don't even know the menu? All that nit picking aside, if you can get passed all of that you get to the food itself. Firstly the salad. I got a Caesar salad. The bowl it was served in was very warm as if it had just come out of the dishwasher. This lead to a very unpleasant eating experience that I hope I never have to experience again. I also ordered a Grecian panini, something that was arguably not Grecian and definitely not a panini. Premade "gyro meat", a roasted tomato slice, and some watery tatziki put between two pieces of FLATBREAD toasted. The tatziki was warm and bland, the tomato's slimy and messy, and the meat scarce. When I think of a panini I am seeing an amount of filling inside of a nice ciabatta thats been put in a panini press to really Caramelize and get that nice crusty finish. This was just a sad gyro begging to be left on the plate with the undercooked French fries. The highlight of the meal was the strawberry cheesecake, which was mediocre at best. Grainy and a tad undercooked but otherwise not revolting. Building is old and bland but otherwise not terribly dirty for a diner in the middle of nowhere I travel for a living and eat out so often that it genuinely feels like a chore. After a day of an antiquing this is a cute little diner to enjoy some lunch. Service was good, & our waitress was very sweet. The food over all is nothing to outside of the normal realm for " diner food" But the chops were made perfectly unfortunately not very seasoned, the mash were warm at best when arriving to the table but tasty, and the broccoli actually had a garlic and oil drizzle which was very flavorful. read more

Hard to find fault with Park Place Diner ... Once again, we had several lunches here and the food was great each time. Today I had the chicken Parm sandwich which my coworker had the other day and said was delicious. She was correct! Yesterday we both had burgers and they were very hot, cooked as we requested, and delicious. And the day before that I had meatloaf and mashed and she had the chicken Parm sandwich. Our meals came with soup which was amazing, we had salad which was larger than most side salads and was served chilled, and a cup of fantastic coleslaw and impressively, an entire dill pickle. Most restaurants or diners give you a slice of a deal or, at best, a half a spear, but Park Place gives an entire pickle. Yum! We have a few great dinners near where we live but I'd be happy if Park Place was also among them and not more than an hour away. read more

My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant for years. Recently almost every day due to family issues. Our food always comes fast and hot and is very good as well as a good amount of food for the $$. I only want to point out that they really need to clean up a bit. The carpet is filthy and all the paneling decor has major dust on it that you can see without squinting!!!! Please do us all a favor and take some time when it closes to clean and dust! I had the most disappointing experience at this restaurant. It all started when my drink came with a fly in it! When we brought it to the waitress's attention, her attitude was incredibly snotty, and instead of addressing the issue, she just left the infected cup on the table.To make things worse, when we asked for a refill, we were told there are no refills with the kid's meals! It felt like an eternity waiting for our food to arrive. My brother, feeling suffocated in the atmosphere, stepped outside for some fresh air and spotted our waitress just hanging out.........After what seemed like half an hour, our food finally arrived. Instead of the promised fish and chips, we received dried-up microwave food that was a huge letdown. As if that wasn't enough, they automatically charged us 20 dollars for the tip, leaving us with no say in the matter. This place left a lot to be desired. I definitely won't be returning. Last evening myself & wife went there for dinner! Everything was going good! Then the waiter became a very annoying. I understand what your job involves, but standing over customers & demanding them to order something so you can leave & get tip doesn't fly. The interior of restaurant was just ok, the bench's for booths in rear of restaurant were missing. Very gloomy atmosphere. The soup yankee bean was the best part of my whole meal. Which for the amount that was ordered should've been on point. Items ordered: Yankee bean soup, steamed carrots & fish n chips Wife got salad, buttered corn & fish n chips We also got potato skins & chicken tenders (appetizer) Wouldn't you guess it they would serve everything all together. I'm so glad that I didn't indulge myself & eat the fish, I am one of the few people allergic to Tilapia. As an ex Chef I know the basics for fish n chips is 95% of the time cod. (Nothing was stated on the menu) I ate the fries which were obviously fried together, already had the lovely feeling of throat swelling up. I let wife take care of things due to myself thinking it was just my stress from work (go outside for fresh air) Wife than calls me back into restaurant with fish in hand(and owner had not known what fish was used for this item on the menu) I was floored! How do you not know your menu from front to back. He later told us it was Tilapia & he still wanted compensation for us getting the fish. The establishment used to be on my ok list, this restaurant is now worse than Pizza Hut. No point in sharing photos it wasn't a pleasant experience. We came upon this diner by chance and what a find it is! Huge menu, great prices, and super nice staff. My spouse had the open roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Since there was such a ton of roast beef it could have had more gravy. Otherwise she really enjoyed it. The cole slaw and salad were just okay. I had the crab cakes broiled instead of fried and they were very good. I thought the slaw was just okay too and the mixed veggies were so overcooked they were mushy. I also had an almond horseshoe that was flavorful, but very dry. The decor has definitely stood the test of time and is in very good condition. The music overhead is late 1940's - mid 1950's. Since the menu is so big we'd like to return and try some more selections. read more

Are here twice on our long weekend getaway. Supper one evening and breakfast on Sunday morning. I can't say this loudly enough- Best French Fries ever!!! They were so good, seasoned lightly, crispy cut thick so good. My spicy chicken salad was good my husband had the chicken Alfredo meal was okay he did say the chicken was bland and he also enjoyed my French Fries. Evening service was okay. Sunday morning breakfast waitress was amazing, we were able to modify our breakfast order to our liking so don't be afraid to ask they seemed very accommodating. Coffee was hot and plentiful. Real butter was served with the pancakes, bacon was crispy and perfect. We were in the side part of the restaurant for breakfast as the booth during our supper visit hurt my back tables were perfect though. Place was clean, restrooms were clean and they also didn't have the cheapest toilet paper they could get. . We will definitely be back. read more

The menu looks great, but do you ever wonder if you ordered the wrong thing? ‍ I love the fact that a cup of the soup of the day is included with sandwiches and burgers. That's awesome. The soup was excellent. The menu said that the BLT is "piled high." It was not. There were one layer of three little strips of bacon, one small lettuce leaf and one tomato. This of course, cut in half. The bread was bigger than the fillings. I wonder if after the breakfast rush they were running low on bacon. I barely tasted bacon on the sandwich. Maybe they gave it to that guy over there who had a plate piled high with six thick strips and eggs. I'll get a burger next time or a sandwich where bacon is not the headliner. This looked like they forgot to add some or were distracted by a different order. I saw other photos with normal diner fries. What were served today were those fries coated in flour. I realize some people like it or don't care or know the difference, but many people order fries and don't want flour. You can get regular fries crispy without getting these. I don't know if they cost less or they ran out of normal fries, but this flour coated fries really take away from good hot diner French fries. Don't mess with a good thing. The sandwiches and burgers all come with fries automatically. That's great, but serve good plain fries. Excellent service. Spotless bathrooms. I would come again but order something else. read more

This time we came by for dinner (we now have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner ). Ordered the Cheeseburger with Swiss cheese which was on a toasted brioche bun and came with coleslaw and French fries. The burger was actually delicious and not dry. The French fries were better than some other diners and were not greasy. Price was $10.99 for a decent amount of food. We also ordered the Kansas Cut Rib Eye with a side of Mac'n cheese and steamed broccoli (made with garlic & olive oil). Steak was cooked medium as requested and was tender. The onion rings, despite looking good, were a little bland. Mac'n cheese was super creamy if you're into that. The cup-of-soup (chicken ditalini) was mediocre but the broth was good like chicken noodle soup. Service was great, our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive even as customers started picking up and business was busy. Overall, would come back again for dinner and breakfast. Maybe try lunch again here soon. We sat upstairs this time unlike the last time we came we sat downstairs in what felt like a secluded 'finished' basement. I didn't like that. Eh, it was okay. The menu was large, so a lot of options - but two out of three of us ended up with something we didn't like. The french toast was very bland, and the mexi salad was awful. The 'buffalo' sauce was very bitter and tasted more like colored vinegar than buffalo sauce. The shell it came in was really greasy. The only thing good was the Greek salad. Our server was awful. We met a friend there and she brought our friend's food and never even acknowledged us. I had to go to the front and ask for menus. She finally came to take our order, but never came back. When she did come back she wanted to know if 'we planned on having anything else or if we were finished.' We were still eating our meals! We told her to just leave the bill. She never offered drink refills either. We ended up here because our friend's car broke down in the area and was towed to the service station next door. We came there from 1.5 hours away to pick her up. Given a choice, we would have gone elsewhere had we known this place was the way it was. Won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Excellent service, excellent prices, excellent food, huge portions of food. The only regret that I have is that the portions of food were so big I never got to try any of their desserts. This is the first time ever, anywhere, I haven't been able to eat what was served to me. I ordered mac and cheese jambalaya and the unappetizing cheese (it looked and tasted like cheese sauce from a can) that covered the dish overpowered everything else. I love mac and cheese and I love jambalaya but I couldn't eat this. All I could taste was that cheese. My husband ordered pork and sauerkraut. There was sauerkraut hanging over the edge of the plate when it was placed in front of him. How much time would it have taken to make the dish look presentable? There was a piece of pork bone in the sauerkraut, too. Does no one care what comes out of the kitchen? And, as other reviewers have mentioned, there were flies that we had to keep shooing away. read more

Stopped in for dinner Saturday around 5pm. It was steady but not terribly busy. My party was able to get seated as soon as we went to the hostess stand. We were offered a table or booth; both were available but the hostess seemed annoyed that another party had requested to be seated at a booth. They serve all day breakfast but we opted for the traditional dinner options. I ordered Mama's Meatloaf, it comes with a side salad or soup. The side salad was nothing more than ice berg lettuce, your common fixings like shredded carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and onion. It was watery. The cucumbers were sliced a half inch thick. There was more salad dressing than actual salad to mix it with. They bring out a basket of bread; 3 white rolls and 3 small pieces of cornbread. Neither bread option was that great. The meatloaf was smothered in gravy, not a little bit of gravy but what seemed like the whole jar. The meat was so finely grounded it resembled potted meat from a can. Definitely not the type of meatloaf I've ever made or tasted before. The mashed potatoes were okay. Again, too much gravy to the whole plate. The other meals were not worth writing about. Would not go back. I did not like the style of cooking. It definitely has a large dinner selection, possibly too much of a variety that the quality of food lacks. read more

Stayed at the Hilton down the street, here on business, wanted local flare. Boy was I a bit disappointed. Ordered pork chop marsala on their specials menu which included a salad and dessert. Salad arrived look like it was just pulled by hand off the head of iceberg lettuce and plate was full of water with a couple sprinkles, red onion, and carrot and two cut up pieces of cucumber. The blue cheese dressing there was good. Received some cornbread and a roll. Which the cornbread was good roll was hard, was hard and un edible. Received the pork chop marsala, and it had no marsala sauce on it. It had pork thick gravy on. It was a few mushrooms. I had to scrape it off and just eat the pork chop, which was tough. Broccoli that was served with. It was old and totally soggy and smelled like feet did not touch. After trudging through that I received my dessert which was an ice cold small portion of runny rice pudding. It tasted like paper . Waitress Holly on the other hand was good and I gave her a 25% tip. Next time I'm in town on business, would I go back? Probably not. read more

This place was highly recommended by some of the locals, so I was surprised by how disappointed I was with the food. We went on a Thursday night, and the parking lot was packed; we were seated immediately. Our server was very nice and greeted us pretty quickly. We started our meal with a cup of Spit Pea Soup and a cup of vegetable soup. The pea soup was a basic recipe, nothing special, but did require a little salt. It also could have used some more bacon. The vegetable soup wasn't bad, but also wasn't anything special. The waitress recommended a Meatloaf Pizzoli (not really sure of the name), but ultimately it was their regular meatloaf smothered in marinara sauce with peppers and onions. My husband ordered it along with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, and the pickled beats and onions. The portion size was huge and could have easily been split with 2-3 people. The food however was horrible. The meat loaf by itself was ok, but very under seasoned. The marinara sauce tasted like it was a green pepper sauce. The flavor of green peppers were so strong, you couldn't taste anything else. The mashed potatoes were your standard potatoes with brown gravy. The meatloaf would have been better suited with the brown gravy. The beets we're nothing special, just your typical pickled beets with onions. I ordered the Roasted Turkey plate with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. The plate was smothered in a very salty turkey gravy that I found hard to eat. This plate would have been better if they had put the brown gravy from my husband's potatoes on it instead. The turkey on the plate was actually very good, had lots of moisture and was cooked perfectly. The stuffing was on the mushy side because it had been made with too much liquid. The potatoes were your standard potatoes. The broccoli was supposed to have been steamed but it was almost like eating raw broccoli, it was hard and flavorless. I was told I got a dessert with my meal, so I ordered the bread pudding to go. I will be honest with you. We took 3/4 of the meatloaf plate, and half of the turkey plate back to our hotel that night and placed it in the fridge. The following evening we still had not touched the food, nor the dessert, and ended up throwing it all away the following morning. We had no desire to eat the leftovers. My poached eggs were good but the toast had no butter. No one came around to refresh our coffee or tea until we were leaving - at least 40 mins passed. Our waiter was nice but underwhelming never checked on us until he asked if we wanted the bill. My hubs had the pastrami omelet and said it was just okay the meat was chopped small but had no flavor. It's a nice area, place was hopping - but our table wasn't cleaned properly and the placement looked used. In the future this one will be a pass. read more
