Absolutely a real good place to get Chinese food in my area. I tried them all and this one is the best in taste and prices are more than fair. I won't go anywhere else. The only thing it lacks is a buffet, but the amount of food you get in your order , you really don't need a buffet. read more

Formerly a bead/craft shop (that once had a gorgeous cat named Louie I liked to visit), Lucky House just opened at the top of Carsonia Avenue. There was some hand wringing when news of this coming business got out, people worried about food smells and such. But I am always excited to see new food on my side of town, because we are short on choices. We were delighted to find that it is not only Chinese, but Thai and sushi too. Some nights, you are just too tired to cook. The owner is a young woman. (Wow, people are getting money to start new businesses in this economy?) The kitchen is very open and visible in this tiny building, and it is amazing they can offer the variety they do. There is a small dining area of 4 tables, most of which held neighbors waiting for their takeout. The peach walls are begging for some art or posters, which I am sure will come. The place was busy! Standard familiar Chinese menu: We tried broccoli with garlic sauce (I added cashews which was not a problem, no charge for it either) and the pad thai, which they were kind to make without the egg. It is marked hot but isn't. Husband got the sweet and sour soup, which they made vegetarian for us. One of the employees told us they use no fish sauce at all, a relief for our kind. How I would love it if they had mock chicken or duck like some Asian places do. There are Bento boxes, some interesting salads such as avocado and seaweed, and a range of curries including basil, red, green, and yellow, also pineapple fried rice and fried udon noodles (all well under $10). Not sure if they have brown rice. We ate in just to watch the traffic, and I don't think they have that part down yet, because we were served on a mix of takeout dishes, styrofoam plates, and real plates. The menu has a 10% off coupon on it. They are open every day until 10pm or later. Their name is Lucky House because you'd be lucky to get an edible meal here. Worst general Tsos chicken I have ever had. Quality has gone downhill a lot. Before, when I ordered from here, the general tsos was white meat, tender, and had a really good taste. Now, it's filled with tendons, dark meat, hard to chew through, and very unappetizing. I question that it's even chicken. The fried rice also tasted a lot different. It almost seemed like the oil they were using was rancid. I also had a few very brown peas in the rice, which indicated they were not good either. Egg roll tasted freezer burnt. Service was very rude and unfriendly. I will not be returning and suggest everyone find a new Chinese restaurant. read more

I like this place. I'm usually hard on restaurants with bad service, but I've never had an issue here. Granted, they're not the most polite over the phone, but maybe I have thicker skin. You do have to ask for any sauce (even soy) and chopsticks, though. The food is good, and I've never really gotten anything I didn't like. The service is horrible. TERRIBLE! There was a miscommunication and I got the wrong food. I called and got yelled at repeately being told it's my fault I'm wrong. One less group of people to go there, not like they had much business. The food is very moderate. The veggie rolls has barely any veggies, just dough. I just cannot believe that every time I was nice in person, she was rude. Then to get yelled at by her on the phone, keep attacking me instead of the problem.. Just terrible terrible service. Food is okay but what leaves a bad taste is the woman that answers the phone I believe it's her establishment. Don't ever try to add a missing item to your order she starts an argument screaming "No you said" it's like she gets upset if you need an extra item added even before it has left the store. I have had a LOT of Chinese food, from Plexiglassed joints in sketchy neighborhoods to fancy-pants places in Europe. Lucky House is by far the worst Chinese I have ever had. My fiance practically had to scream-spell our street name 5 or 6 times while ordering, the delivery kid was way off on our address, he didn't have a pen and we just stared at each other until I realized he was NOT going to produce one and went inside for a pen of my own. And this is all before we tasted the food. I personally could not tell the difference between the General Tso's and the orange chicken. Both were overly tangy and citrus-y. Neither looked like what they were supposed to be. The crab rangoon was ersatz and so sickly sweet it was cloying. The lo mein was surprisingly okay. We paid almost $10 more tonight than we usually do at our favorite place, and my soul wants to cry. Or my stomach does. And speaking of stomachs, my fiance's only wish was that the food didn't make him sick. Wish denied, he threw up, and re-entering the kitchen, he noticed that the food even smelled weird. The upside? Great fortune cookies. In fact, the second one I ate told me it was lucky I made this choice, because everything works out in the end. I've always waited over an hour and last night it was an hour and 45 minutes b/c the driver couldn't find my place which is the most known condo development in the area. Tried lucky house for the first time. Had the bone lessons and the hot and sour soup. I should of saved my money. The owner screamed at me when I tried to order from the lunch special, saying it was Sunday and they don't have the special on sundays. The ribs were more fat than meat and was very dry. The soup? lucky house has great food they do not have the sushi any longer but everything else is great!! the good thing about this place is that it is consistent in the quality of food . it is not like it was when it first opened the cook that the had then could not get anything right but that has changed as the owners husband is the cook an he will fix anything you want any way you want it . the do have delivery and the delivery guy that they have has been with them for a little over a year. he is always polite and greets his customers with the greatest respect . he is always worth tipping for his service . anyway everyone should really try lucky house again if you haven't in a long time or if your new you all will love it !!!!! read more

Talk about bad Chinese food. If you're looking for general saos chicken that tastes just like orange chicken you are home. Literally every dish on the menu will taste the same, the beef taste like chicken and he chicken tastes like beef. And if you like your food colored bright red look no further. My girlfriend and I order here a lot. Loved this place for years.. Moved from Philly to the Reading area. Lived in Mt penn for 3 years and lived here in Muhlenberg almost 4 years now and never had a bad experience or meal from Lucky House... We drive 20 mins now and it's worth the drive everytime. No other Chinese place compares. When I order for pickup I say "can I have the spicy general tso's chicken combo. The red spicy sauce on the chicken is My favorite! Also the boneless pork ribs, chicken or pork fried rice, white rice or brown rice, wonton soup, chicken or pork lo-mein noodles, pepper steak with peppers and onions and pizza rolls are great as well. I strongly recommend them all to try! We have been here to eat over 50 times. Every meal we have ordered has been the best Chinese food around here. I unfortunately just had to most unprofessional and unpleasant experience of my life with these people. I had always enjoyed my food with them but if costumer service is important to you, I would stay away. For months now every time I ordered the bill was ALWAYS more then I'd figured out myself, usually bye 3 to 4 dollars. The bill comes in Chinese so I could never figure out where the discrepancy was. Most times I'd just complain to my husband and go about enjoying our meal, but this time if was almost $10.00 more, that was just unexceptionable to me. At this moment instead of explaining kindly and comely to me, the lady started yelling at me saying it was my fault I didn't order correctly. As I gave her my reasonable thoughts on it. She continued yelling at me. I came to learn in the middle of the dispute that anything I didn't specify in size came in large which was more expensive. Also learned they charge for EVER soy sauce and duck sauce pack they give you. I explained MAYBE we could say we are both at fault but she didn't ask either, of course NO ONE ELSE in the world does that, EVERYONE knows U must say small if you want small. We both left situation unhappy and she was more then happy to say they would never deliver to us again. So I called Restaurant to explain how rude she was. They treated me JUST THE SAME. RUDE and Disrespectful way. Needless to say LUCKY HOUSE is OVER charging costumers, basically back handily stealing from people. read more

I just tried this place, they do deliver around the Mt Penn, south Reading, and Exeter areas. Got 2 sesame chicken combos with rice egg rolls and a soda. They have Coke cans and 2 litter bottles. The total was around $18 and it took about 25 minutes to deliever. It was pretty good and the chicken was cooked well unlike someplaces where their chicken is hard to chew.
