If each dish comes w/ rice...3 dishes = 3 servings rice, why can't 1 bowl be white & the other brown ?? Served small bowl white & a barely filled small bowl of brown (like it was a favor). Okay. My son and I ate here yesterday for the first time. Food was really good and portions for lunch combos was great. The house made won tons in the soup were the best we've ever had! The service was ok young lady don't know her name didn't speak much English and when I paid never brought me my change. I didn't say anything because I was shocked someone would do that so for a $32 lunch I wound up leaving a $9 tip. Maybe eat here again but will only be takeout. Unfortunately my GrubHub+ experience in conjunction with Sakura is causing this review. Ordered last night and received a voicemail to call back from Sakura. To be informed that they did not include all of my sushi (special roll and spicy tuna roll) with my order. So my whole dinner, not there. And.....the rolls were shown on the receipt on the bag. So then to get refunded my money, ONLY for the price of the rolls from the order. That's a poor mark for GrubHub+. With the service fee, nice tip for the driver and food that my fiancé ONLY got to eat: he ordered 2 egg rolls, wonton soup and the Thai Mango Chicken, my bill was $42. So quality he said tasted of a canned sweet sauce and the chicken was cooked ok. Rice was a bit spongy. Not worth this lack of order and total cost I spent. The other evening, after seeing Dune (which you should absolutely do), we were STARVING (a three-hour flick will do that to you). We started driving around and landed at Sakura. They're only open for delivery or takeout right now (this is effective as of 10/22), so bear that in mind. BUT! We put in our order and we're driving away with it about 15 minutes later. Their menu is super extensive, with a huge array of Chinese, Japanese, and Thai selections (it took us forever to decide because everything sounded so good). We got (and, like I said, we were hungry): Wonton soup Egg rolls Miso soup Seaweed salad Shrimp tempura ALL of it was fantastic. Standouts were the egg rolls, which were fried to perfection, and not in the least bit greasy. Beautifully seasoned (we were sad we only got two). The seaweed salad, too, was wonderful with the addition of toasted panko (not complicated, but terrific). UPDATED to say that we enjoyed Sakura so much, we ordered delivery a few nights later. We shared summer rolls and a sushi sampler, both of which were absolutely delicious. If you're in (or around) Pottstown, definitely put this place on your "don't miss" list! read more

Decided to try this place the other night with my brother. I would have to say it was pretty decent. We ordered two sushi rolls the green and Philly. They were both pretty good. I ordered the salmon teriyaki and my brother ordered the sesame chicken. My food was good. Very flavorful. Wish it came with a little more broccoli but over all good. My brother said his food was good just too much sauce on the chicken. My dish came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup had an okay broth but I prefer miso with mushrooms not tofu. The salad was just lettuce and very wet. The dressing was ginger, and it was okay but with the lettuce being so wet it diluted it. I would go again. Try different items. The Sushi and Crab Rangoons are amazing! The service however is just mediocre and a literal joke. The whole time we were eating, the workers behind the sushi bar would just stare at us from across the room. When it was time to leave, we had paid the bill and got up to leave, handed the check with cash to the waitress and waited for the receipt. After we had gotten up and went out to the car, the waitress had come outside yelling that she demanded a bigger tip and expected more money. My wife, son, and I stopped by Sakura on the off chance of finding a restaurant with an Asian flair that was different than the several buffets and take-out places we have in the area. Lastly, it's where you take your friends and family in town for special occasions. Tonight it was my daughter's graduation dinner. The event ran long, getting out of parking lot and to the restaurant longer. Soo, we rolled in with a party of 12 @ 9:30pm. They close at ten. No other way to say it, we were an imposition. BUT, you would never know it. They we warm and kind, moved the furniture to accommodate all with a smile. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Apps on time and entrees to follow. The food? Excellent!!!!!! We left after 10:30, we tried to eat quickly, but we never felt pressured. When we left, the staff thanked us and wished us well! Now you know a place becomes a family favorite!! I went here with a friend on 2/23/13 to try the sushi. The decor was very nice. We were the only ones in there so our service was very good. The food is another story. We ordered our sushi - three rolls for about $11. My friend noticed the color of the yellowtail stating that it just didn't look right. She smelled it and said it smelled racid. I picked up a piece of my spicy tuna and it smelled horrible to say the least! We called the waitress over and told her about the yellowtail and the smell of all the rolls. So I've eaten here three times now. I really had higher expectations but Sakura is doomed to fail. I'm not suggesting they will close, just fail in the sense of dining standards. The decor is trying to be upscale modern Philly or New York style, but it falls short. But it is still nice compared to other restaurants in the area. The service was acceptable and the staff friendly. Where it falls short is the food. First, the menu is way too big. A classic mistake. No restaurant can produce excellence when there are 100 items on the menu. They should pair down and remove the Chinese items. Stick with Japanese and even try regional concoctions. I understand that this is Pottstown, so most folks are less cultured and expect the standard fare, but they should try and break free from that thinking. The locals would really embrace that. Our food was at best average. The sushi and various rolls were near flavorless. I think it points to a lot of frozen ingredients. Which makes sense when you see the size of the menu for such a small footprint of a restaurant. We will likely not return. Anyway, while we really welcomed another restaurant in Pottstown, Sakura has fallen into the local trap. Our go-to sushi place in the Pottstown area, and honestly, it's on par with some of the fancier sushi places we've eaten in big cities like Philadelphia. It's a little on the pricey side for the area, but WORTH IT (and they regularly offer coupons). The decor is on the dark side, creating a more intimate atmosphere with dim lighting, dark walls and dark tile floor. It's lovely. Not great for kids though (which I don't mind in a "date night" type place) - it's small and there's nothing to really absorb sound. We make sure we keep our 5 year old occupied when we go because we don't want him disturbing other patrons. Their sushi is phenomenal. Phenomenal. Very fresh, creative and delicious. We have ordered the Love Boat sushi (worth every penny) but generally order the Today's Special Sushi Bar where you get 2 rangoons, 2 gyoza, pineapple and 2 special rolls for $25. We order 2 of these specials and choose 4 different rolls, and it's a BEAUTIFUL presentation. The chefs clearly take pride in their work. Our hands down favorite is the Sakura roll, which we order every time: Spicy tuna crunch inside, outside with yellowtail jalapeno sauce with red tobiko. We've also ordered the Godzilla Roll, Volcano Roll, Black Jade Roll, Sunshine Roll, TNT Roll, and some other special rolls and have never been disappointed. We're also fans of the creative Monster roll, where the chefs uses pulled apart crab stick on top of the roll to give it a "monster" like appearance. Last time we went, we took our son with us and ordered Chinese for him - what every little kid eats - sweet and sour chicken. The waitress was VERY nice to him and even put together a pair of chopsticks with a rubber band and a piece of paper so he could eat his "chinese chicken nuggets" with them.
