I met a friend for lunch at Thai Cafe on a Saturday. Parking near the restaurant that is part of the Springfield Mall is frankly a bit challenging. With a little persistence and a short walk, I found a spot. Walking in to the restaurant, there is a small greeting counter. No one was there and so we walked to the back. You don't see the tables when walking into the place, I suspect the kitchen is along side the hallway leading to the tables. The ambiance is friendly, casual with the tables and booths well spaced to provide privacy. The restaurant was relatively empty during our meal and the noise level was comfortable, allowing us to have conversation easily. Thai food is one of my two favorite and I am always looking for a new place to be inspired. I put Thai Cafe on my list of places that I'll return to. I started my meal with Tom Yum Seafood soup. The flavor was really excellent. Two minor things for me: I like soup warm and not hot. For me, the temp was perfect but for other people who like their soup really hot, it probably wasn't hot enough. The other issue is 'how spicy does this restaurant prepare their food?' The soup was 1 pepper, which was a bit milder than I prefer, but accurate. I added a bit more spice. I chose the vegetarian Kapow Pak. The dish is prepared in a brown sauce which frankly isn't my favorite. But it was really good. The veges were fresh, crisp and crunchy, and the tofu was wonderfully lightly fried. The dish is described as medium spicy, reasonably accurate. My friend chose the Pad Woon Sean with chicken. I didn't try it but he said it was a 10/10. The staff were friendly, helpful, and helped me select my dish. This is a family business that's been open for about 30 years. The servers were totally wonderful. I will certainly be back. read more

The sweet and sour chicken is a fam favorite. Love the papaya salad and tom yum soup! I forget the name but it was listed as an appetizer and comes with sticky rice and pork skewers that the kids loved as well! Great for single dine in to families with little ones, staff is very welcoming. read more

The Thai Cafe has new owners but the food is still the best in town. Reasonable prices and good portions. Tried the Crab Rangoon and it was great. The pad Thai is amazing and the pad see-ew is great. Lunch prices are the way to go. read more

I love this place. Whenever I end up south of Springfield, I always look forward to stopping on my way back to DC. Need to go to Home Depot? I'll drive a bit extra to give me an excuse for Thai Cafe? Target? Same. My "go to" dishes are any of the curries but I really love the Panang Curry with Chicken. The Pad Prik King (string beans) with Beef are also phenomenal. They have some heat too...not too much, just right. After coming here for so long, I was sad to see the wonderful Thai couple owners depart. However, the new owners seem great. The service it always good and amazing food can be a hit on most dishes, but some is average. Tubb Waan (Pork Liver Salad) $10.95 3/5- The liver was cook nicely and not overcook. It was sweet and soft, however the amount of liver in the salad was tiny compared to all the herb mixes. Also, the sauce was tad bit too sweet too me, i like it to be more spicy, savory and sour because liver have a natural sweetness within itself if cook properly. Suea Rong Hai or Crying Tiger $24.95 5/ 5- Wow it was so good!! A big piece of juicy rib eyes steaks perfectly grills medium cook It was marinated perfect with savoriness and still beefy. It come with sticky rice steam broccoli, carrot and sweet spicy tamarind sauce. It can definitely feed 2 people. Just typing make me want some. read more

The food was so good that I forgot to take pictures of everything they kept bringing. I had the opportunity to meet the original owner's daughter and she did a phenomenal job at helping us pick out what to order. My table ordered family style and I'm so glad we did because it gave me the opportunity to try a lot. I am still thinking about my favorite dish - papaya salad made at medium heat. I came in to the restaurant today to have a late lunch. I was promptly seated and given a menu. 2 employees were seated eating the 3rd employee that seated me did not return to take my order. There was no reason for this with only 1 patrons in the dining room. I was just here a few days ago and had a wonderful meal. Shout out to Nikki!!! I have never been treated with so much disdain. The rating is based on today 1-21-25. I will not return nor will I recommend to anyone. I can spend my money where it is appreciated. Virginia is blessed with so many really good Thai restaurants! We are new to the area from SoCal, and dined here after charging up at the nearby Tesla Supercharger. Thai Cafe is pretty easy to find with ample parking. We were greeted immediately upon entering and seated right away. Decor is simple and clean. We ordered yum woonsen, numtok noodle soup, siam beef, and tod mun pla. Overall I would say the food is good, leaning a bit to the sweet side though. This is my second bad experience that's why I had to leave a review the first occasion was when I order for my girl I told them no peanuts because she is allergic and they said ok and still put it on the meal I drove 30 minutes there and back to get the food. This place is so cute! The front of the restaurant looks like a place that just does takeout. The main dining area is in the back and really nice. We went in on a Sunday evening and the place was pretty busy. Service was excellent and the servers were really helpful. I ordered the big bowl Tom Yum dinner with chicken and it was really good. I wished it was a little spicier but the servers bought me a spice tray and fixed it. My husband had the Chicken Pad Kapow and it was freaking amazing! WOW. WOW. WOW. My friends live in Springfield and mentioned that there was a very good Thai place we could order from, and that they loved the drunken noodles. I eat Thai food any chance I get, so I obviously said yes. I ordered two things: 1. Pra Ram Long Song Entree - slices of chicken breast that are sautéed in a light yellow curry with red onions and peanut sauce - which was amazing and came with rice! 2. Drunken Noodles with chicken, medium spice - so delicious and spicccyyy. The service: We did a takeout order and walked to pick up the food. They were very friendly and my friend left a $15 tip on the order. As we were walking away, they ran out to us to make sure that we actually meant to leave a tip on the order. I couldn't believe it. This place is curious to me. It has a lot of good reviews from Thai people who say that the food is authentic but our experience what's the opposite. We got moo ping, Guaydtiaao Moo Nam Sai and something basic . . . Pad Thai. The moo ping was great. The soup was mediocre with no strong flavors.. The Pad Thai horrible imho. It was soupy with chopped up and mushy noodles as if they reused from the day before and the color was a pale gray. How is that in any way authentic... The place is clean though and the service is decent. Still it's just like any other Thai restaurant that does the basic minimum for farang. Only say this to help the foodies but IMHO I believe Thai Ghann Wan is the best! Unfortunately with other restaurants it's a race to the bottom the bottom line i.e., they do the minimum to just get by and to maximize profits. read more

I can't get enough if the shoo-shee salmon. It has been my go to quite a few times for lunch over the last few months with the occasional addition of wonton soup or a switch to larb with rice. Everything I have had has been great! I havent gotten the chance to dine in yet, but delivery is quick, hot, and consistent every single time. There is really only one other thai restaurant I enjoy between Springfield and Woodbridge, making Thai Café a top two for me. I will be dining in soon and trying more of the menu! read more

My new favorite spot!!! Every dish remind me of street food in Thailand. They do very well with flavor, price and portion. I went 4 people and obviously we ordered like 10 dishes lol. I'm a bit sad that we only found this gem 2 months before we're moving, I want to come here more!!! Price is fantastic, service is great and food is heavenly! The BBQ squid is a must! I had the beef boat noodles and it was so good!! It might even rival my favorite soup noodles which is Pho. It's been awhile since we've ordered from Thai Cafe and it's still delicious! We ordered the Himmaparn with pork. Next time I may have them add more celery than onions but the flavor is a light brown sauce as I don't like heavy soy sauces so this was perfect. Also got a side of the garden roll appetizer- it would be nice if this garden roll came with the option of adding shrimp. I love Summer Rolls and I think that would be a nice addition. The pad thai is always delicious and our go to option but I was in the mood for some celery and nuts in my dish! read more

Had higher hope for this place based on other reviews. The staff is friendly and service is good. But the food is just okay. More specifically it is bland. For example, I ordered pork kappa, which on the menu had a two pepper rating. Because in most places that's too hot for me, I asked for it to be made one pepper hot. Tom Yum chicken soup has many layers of flavor, clearly they must simmer that stock for many hours. We asked for mildly spicy and they delivered exactly what we wanted. I got the crispy spring rolls ($6.95), the talay combo dinner (fish, shrimp, scallops, and mussels, $21.95), a Coke ($1.75), longan (a fruit, $4.00), and Thai coconut custard ($5.00). The food was excellent. I have also had their catfish with green curry on previous visits. If you come here only one time, get the catfish.
