one of my favorite places! Service is extremely friendly and nice. The restaurant is on the smaller side for dining however I went on the weekend and was seated immediately. Chicken pad Thai: super flavorful & I really loved the ratio or noodles vs chicken. Usually I find places to have very limited protein within the dish, however, Thai Ghang Waan was not one of those places. Beef drunken noodles: just like the pad Thai portion to protein ratio was amazing. This is actually spicy with amazing flavor. Papaya salad: not overpowering in fish sauce or sugar this dish was a perfect balance of both. Super crunchy & flavorful - all around Amazing app Definitely recommend for those that are looking for great Thai food with good portions and reasonable pricing. read more

This used to be a dive with great thai food but after its renovation, it's now a nice thai restaurant with great thai food! They have a special pad thai that has slight difference and served with two large prawns. Highly recommended. They serve standard thai dishes such as panang curry and drunken noodles. In addition, they offer additional dishes not found at other thai restaurants. Nice and friendly service and great food! Now our go-to for thai cuisine. read more

We love Thai food, and since Rockville isn't too far from us, it's where we usually go when the craving hits. When near Springfield, Thai Ghang Waan has become one of our regular stops, and after a few visits, I've started to notice a pattern--their salads and smaller plates have consistently impressed me more than the mains. Maybe I'm just ordering the wrong entrées, but that's been my experience so far. One thing they definitely don't mess around with is spice. I ordered medium, and it had me sweating by the end of the meal. Our favorites are the crispy rice salad and the fried watercress salad--both are packed with flavor and worth ordering every time. On previous visits, we also really enjoyed the oyster pancake and the Goong Chae Nam Pla (raw shrimp). Service has always been excellent too. Our water glasses were refilled without us ever having to ask, which is always appreciated. We'll definitely keep coming back, but next time I think we'll stick to what they do best and load up on the appetizers and salads. read more

Absolutely fantastic food. They are happy to accommodate vegan modifications, and their spice levels mean business. Everything we ordered was 10/10. Highly recommend the chive cakes and the pad woon sen with tofu! I only picked up takeout but it was so cut inside...perfect for a date night. I will definitely return when I'm in the area. read more

Very wonderful hidden gem Thai restaurant in Springfield. Quiet and clean interior with comfortable seating options - booths and tables. Very friendly staff who checked in with us before the rest of our group arrived, making sure we were comfortable. The food was delicious - at the table we shared dumplings, red curry, crunchy pork belly, and pad thai. The servings were just enough for a hungry belly with no appetizers, with the exception of the pad thai - lots of volume there! Red curry medium spice wasn't too spicy at all, it was perfect. I don't visit this area often, but I am really glad we stopped in to try Thai Ghang Waan! read more

This place might be the best Thai restaurant I've had. Although I couldn't have everything on the menu as a single diner, the duck ka pow, calamari, and drunken noodles were fire. Portions were fair price was a little on the high side but, service good. But the food was delicious. read more

Stopped here for dinner with my family and it was delicious! We got here around 630pm during a weeknight and it was already packed inside. Located near the Brookfield plaza tucked near Bonchon. We ordered the chicken larb, watercress salad with seafood, pad see ew with beef and duck red curry. Everything was delicious! I loved the flavors of the larb and the watercress salad, citrusy, herby and spicy. Our entrees took a little but I didn't mind me everything was made to order. The dishes were piping hot and overall had great balance of savory and heat. The pad see ew had a great wok flavor. The red curry was tasty, a little spicy from the red curry subtle coconut taste. The watercress salad was my favorite along with the pad see ew. I also want to talk about the vibes inside this restaurant. The aesthetic of the place is amazing and allows you to feel relax and enjoy your meal. If you're in the mood for Thai food, definitely try this place out. read more

Thai Ghang Waan absolutely blew us away. From the moment we sat down we were treated wonderfully with caring, prompt service. We ordered a few beers and a Thai iced tea (of course) and the bottled beers were served with chilled ice mugs. My group of 5 decided to order a few things and share family style. We ordered the chicken larb, som tum, pork lad na, pork pad see ew, and koh moo yang. All were incredibly tasty and large portions which was a perfect amount to share. We also ordered sticky rice to accompany the koh moo yang which I highly recommend! Dishes were cleared without us having to ask and everyone was super friendly. I will be returning VERY soon. read more

- def the best thai spots for food and value we've been to in the dmv so far! - drunken noodle was spicy but texture was great, it wasn't too greasy, and it was still sweet and salty! - it included a lot of chicken and veggies, including baby corn and carrots and bell peppers and lettuce? cabbage? - big portions - duck curry had LOTS of duck meat! wasn't too sweet from pineapple, everything was well balanced, and coconut taste wasn't too overwhelming :) - duck roll slayed. roti was nice thick chewy and crispy! packed with lots of duck, lots of sauce inside and outside to your liking, and filled with cucumber. - workers were super sweet - if you come when it's super busy like dinner time on the weekend, you may have to wait about 45 mins to an hour for food because they may have a lot of pick up orders to keep up with as well - decor is super cute and modern! they play thai videos and music as well - def get a reservation unless you're ok with sitting at the bar but still expect a wait if busy read more

Thai Ghang Waan - Goong Gleur (under "Specials" on menu) - Thai Near Me - Springfield, Virginia

Small cozy restaurant in a strip mall near Springfield Mall. Went to it for lunch. Been a while since wife had the boat noodle soup and this place has it. The servers are friendly and helpful. Since it is relatively far and hard to get to without GPS guiding. We decided to get a selection to try. We got the Yum Woonsen, Koh Moo Yang (Grill pork strips), Pla Num Pla, Floating Market Noodle (Boat noodle soup) with pork, and Ba Mee Haeng (Dry egg noodles, very well seasoned noodles). The portions are generous and properly seasoned. Only minor miss for me was there is a bit too much raw onion in the Yum Woonsen. If you are looking for a friendly neighborhood Thai restaurant at an affordable price, well worth a drive to Springfield. Would definitely go back to try out some of their other dishes. read more

This was our first visit to Thai Ghang Waan in Brookfield Plaza (love the retro 60s Brookfield sign at the entrance). Lots to like at Thai Ghang Waan. The restaurant was thoughtfully designed with a door immediately inside the front door, which is great for keeping cold drafts from entering the establishment. Thai Ghang Waan is immaculately clean so we felt kinda bad when we inadvertently tracked in salty brine from the sidewalk outside. They'll have to deal with this for a while because it appears the 10" of snow that fell Monday ain't goin' anyplace soon. Service was excellent. We liked how our friendly, kind and attentive server immediately brought out small plates, chopsticks, spoons and plenty of napkins along with the menus. During our meal, whenever the water level dropped in my glass, our server was right there to provide a refill. I really love that! We started out with an order of the steamed dumplings. The steamed dumplings were oh so delicious, made even better with the accompanying sweet soy sauce. BTW, ever since I had sweet soy sauce for the first time in Doi Moi in DC, I jump for dishes that come with it. Thai Ghang Waan's dumplings might, from appearance, remind you of shumai. For my entrée, I ordered the Phad Thai with pork. It was pretty good with plenty of pork and lots of crumbled peanut. The flavor was not bad at all, but I would have preferred a stronger hint of tamarind sauce. JP ordered the Phad Thai Ra Yong. I think of as Phad Thai Plus, because it was essentially the same as my Phad Thai, except it had (some) crab meat and two giant shrimp. I thought they were crawfish, but they were just unshelled big shrimp with legs and everything. While we absolutely will come back, we do wish they had timed the arrival of our entrees at the table a little better. JP's dish came out nearly 10 minutes after mine. There were no other eat-in customers while we were there, but several people came in to pick up take out orders. read more

Thai Ghang Waan is a little hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant serving up authentic Thai dishes as well as some Western favorites. The place is always packed, but the wait isn't too long since the food comes out relatively quick but always hot and to order. The interior is warm and inviting just like their customer service. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The noise level is average, so you don't have to worry about yelling over any speaker system or whispering so that you aren't breaking any still silence. My go-to dish is the garlic lover with chicken. The chicken is tender, the vegetables are fresh, and the garlic flavor isn't overly powerful since I for one would never call myself a garlic lover. The dinner portion is about 50% larger than the lunch portion, but both are at a great price for the quality food you get. Overall, highly recommend trying Thai Ghang Waan out whether you're looking for comfort authentic or Western Thai food. read more

Been back recently and it still always good and authentic. Boat noodle soup $16 5/5 The only place I can get boat noodle soup in Springfield with rich flavorful broth, and they put liver in it like how they do it in Thailand and a bunch of stew beef. Koh Moo Yang ( Grill pork neck) $11 5/5 - So good perfectly grill with hint of sweetness and savory dip in the sauce and I like to order a side of sticky to eat with it. The only neg i would say $3 for a can of soda. I think it kind of high since it no refill. read more

If the food had come in any sensible order, or if service cared more, this wouldn't be 3 *. The food is great; well cooked as if each dish is freshly made in a home kitchen. Unfortunately, the 3 of us ordered an appetizer and an entree each. We received, in order: appetizer, entree, appetizer, entree, entree. Never saw the last appetizer. Waitstaff did not seem bothered at all by the kitchen chaos. Get take out. read more

Here's what we ended up getting Papaya salad: excellent Calamari: good a little bit on the sweet side I ended up getting a dish that I can't even tell you the name of. It's a thick noodle with soup. What I typically get in a Thai restaurant is the green salad. They informed me when I was about to order it that they didn't have bamboo shoots. Well gosh damn it! I love bamboo sheets. It's one of the reasons I order the damn thing. So basically they were out of a clean ingredient in many of their dishes. Whatever this was I didn't quite care for it. It was thick and not really a tasty soup bra. In addition to that, I didn't love the Chinese broccoli or the way they cooked it. The noodles were quite mushy and I just wasn't a big fan of the taste of it Ambiance is nice. The major issue I had here was the service. The servers in general were quite rude and sarcastic with commentary. I didn't really care for their service at all. Parking here is easy. It's a free lot. Overall, I'm glad I tried it out, but I doubt I would be in a rush to come back here read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant when they were still closed for renovations and patiently waited for it to reopen because of all the reviews. I placed my order for pickup: red curry with chicken and beef and pad se ew with beef. The meat portion in the curry was huge but not enough curry to support all the protein. The rice portion was also very small. My husband enjoyed his noodles. Both entrees were served room temperature at best - I wish they were warmer. Will deff keep it in our rotation! Excited to try more items soon read more

After some friends suggesting this place for some good Thai food around springfield area, my boyfriend and I decided to grab some food to go for our movie night. We got drunken noodled goong gleur, and duck roll. The drunken noodle was a generous portion and the goong gleur was seasoned very well (just wish we had it fresh and crispy at the restaurant). One thing I would pass on is the duck roll, the wrap was a little thick and took away from the flavor of the duck. I will definitely try the ka prow next time if I want some duck. Overall, we enjoyed the food and they also gave us a reusable Thai Ghang waan store bag in which our take out food was in! read more

I ordered take out from here. Servings are small. I did not understand the hype from other reviews. I ordered tom yum soup, roast duck curry, pad thai, drunken noodles, crab fried rice. They were swamped on a Tuesday lunch so we decided to order takeout instead thinking it would be faster. We noticed that tables that sat down after we ordered got their food much faster than we did, so it seemed like they were prioritized even though we waited a good thirty minutes. We also noticed that the portion sizes of the basil fried rice served at the tables were mountainous compared to what we got in our takeout containers. The Thai iced tea is also super sweet, which some people like but for me it was a bit too much. All in all I'd return for lunch but I'd sit down at a table for better service and value. read more

Wow! I was in the area for work and stopped by for a quick lunch. I arrived around 12:30 on a Friday and this little place was packed. The restaurant only has about 10-12 tables and a few bar seats. There was a line for tables but I only had to wait for a few minutes to be seated. It looked like there were only two ladies working the front of the house but they were fast and efficient while also being warm and welcoming. They were happy to accommodate my changes to the dish I ordered, sibstituting my preferred vegetables for those that came standard. The food arrived promptly and it was fantastic! The green curry was rich and favorful with just the right level of spice/heat. The beef was tender and there was a good portion for a lunch entree. The prices were reasonable too. This place is a total gem. Check it out! read more
