Thai in name and while serving Thai food options in the main, this is one of the many Treasure Valley Thai restaurants that also squeeze Chinese and Vietnamese items onto their menu. Service is friendly and sometimes, as in our most recent visit, even splendidly so but better organized at some times than others. Knowing that going in to set patience expectations in advance may make the dining experience more enjoyable. Owners are the same who own Pad Thai House in Boise and while we have had really poor experience for food and service and facility there, we have had good ones here for the same. During the 2014 - 2015 years we ate here scores of times but it fell off our radar after that until recently given the discovery of better Thai food elsewhere in the Boise area. I note the review I posted back then is missing, although the photos posted with it survive. Having recently reacquainted ourselves with Thai Basil, it seemed worthwhile to review it again. Falling between 3 and 4 stars based on umpteen visits were it not for the fact they denied access to the bathroom for two women in our recent dining party, we might have rounded up. VIBE: Located in one of Meridian's woeful strip malls, the interior is welcoming with Asian décor, including a fish tank at the door, faux bamboo plant accents, dark red walls and interesting lights. There are comfy seating options at all standard height tables with chairs. And here I add "yahoo" while noting 70% of Zagat surveyed diners said in the 2018 released summary that they were "so over" high stool seating and yet so many Treasure Valley eateries rely on them. Hooray too that there is for the most part ample space between tables to not feel as if one is in a sardine can, as is the case in many other local eateries. And we appreciate every time we've dined here, even at full house, noise is contained at a level that makes conversation possible. MENU & FOOD: This is a pretty safe bet for anyone across ages and experience with Asian food, from people whose frame of reference is Americanized Chinese food Sweet and Sour dishes or egg rolls...they have 'em...to people who want a bowl of spicy Thai Green Curry or the stand by dishes like Pad Thai. There are better options in Boise for Thai food (Thai Cuisine as the leader and Siam Orchid as worthy contender) but this will do for good eats if you know what to order. We like to stay in the Thai lane, but also appreciate the Chinese lacquered duck served here. Hard to find that cut up with bones in it delight. Nearly all their Thai dishes are things we'd happily order again. There are specials at lunch time, if that's your thing, for under $9 or you can order off of the standard menu then too. Menu prices run about $6 to $20ish. SERVICE: Our most recent visit included people across three generations, some of whom knew nothing about Thai food and little about Chinese food. The server was a model of grace for explanation and assistance. Well done. At peak times, like lunch hour rush, the only couple of cooks in the relatively small kitchen can lag behind and being prepared for delays then is a good idea. ACCESSIBILITY: It is more than disappointing, it is actually illegal, that they have put barriers in the way of equal access to the women's loo by people who use wheelchairs and walkers. The ADA has been law since 1990 and this restaurant launched around 2014. They should know better. They need to remove the chairs stored in the hall outside the ladies' loo door that make the entry too narrow and also remove the piece of changing table furniture in the loo itself. It is not optional to provide equal access to bathrooms for all people. It is Civil Rights law. This is the business owner's failure. The structure of the building is right. Impediments added by the restaurant owner are in the way. PARKING: Private lot parking is a big advantage here. But the ADA parking is not laid out for either design nor for the minimum numbers required by both law and Idaho building code. This is the strip mall owner's failure not the restaurant owner's. HOURS: Open Lunch and Dinner but NOT straight through. Note they are closed from 3:00 - 5:00. This seems pretty common practice for smaller, owner operated ethnic restaurants as it gives time for "family meal"' and for the kitchen to refresh for dinner service. read more

DELICIOUS! Sorry no pics- we ate it all so fast! Tofu Pad Thai- unlike any other I've had and was absolutely yum! Plenty of fried tofu with, beautiful tamarind color and flavor. Mongolian Beef- tons of meat, great flavor, enough for lunch the next day. Cha Goi - Fried meat eggrolls. Great Nuac Cham sauce! included lettuce leaves to warp them in but no pickled vegetables ( Best with hoisin and sriracha in the leaf, then put the roll and dip in the nuac cham- EXCELLENT! read more

Our friends took us. We had never been. It was delicious. We will definitely go back. Waitress was super nice and food was great.

I love Thai food. I was excited to try this place out, and I went for lunch with my coworker. The parking lot was full enough, I was rather excited to see how popular this place was. My expectation high! Well...when we got our food, my coworker and I both were rather unimpressed. I ordered Pad Prik King beef, and she ordered some sort of chicken dish, but the dishes were pretty blend compared to what we've experienced at a good Thai restaurant. The staff was friendly enough, but I'm not sure (and I'm sorry to say) if I would go back there again. read more

Good food, friendly service in a cute setting. The portion size was small for me but no complains with its flavors. So far I have only tried Thai fried rice in my two visits. Based on the food served on the table, everybody enjoyed their order. So, overall, visit them for authentic Thai flavors in Boise. PS - cautious with the spice level, mild or medium would be a way to go as you could be in tears while eating the hot version even if you can handle very spicy food. read more

I wish I could give zero stars for the combination of customer service and inedible food. Our server was awful, he was very inattentive and forgetful. I took my 1st (and only) bite of pad Thai and honestly couldn't even get it down. It was disgusting. It tasted like wet dog. I sat there for awhile when he finally came to check on the food. (He had disappeared for so long that we were actually ready to go at this point.) I said it wasn't good and it had a funny taste, he chuckled and offered me a box. I said no and he still made us pay full price for the food we didn't eat. My friend ordered the same thing and ate a few more bites than I did but she said she immediately felt sick. The photo I've attached it how much I ate, you can't even tell I took a bite. I've never been disappointed by pad Thai before but first for everything I guess. I actually surprised they are selling this to people and even more surprised that people are buying it. Our experience was so bad it was almost comical. read more

I love this place!! My favorite dishes are the summer rolls and yellow curry dish with chicken. My husband was indecisive as to which dish is his favorite - The yellow curry dish with chicken or the Yellow curry dish with beef. A true toss up in his opinion. His favorite appetizer is the deep fried tofu. Killer! His new favorite drink is now the Thai coffee. This place is consistent with great service, food and dependability. Tyler was our waiter and constantly checked on us. He couldn't do enough. The food menu is reasonable priced. For me finding a place that offers a wide array of gluten free options is a must! This place fits the bill. Trust me when I say you will leave this place pleasantly satisfied and full. This restaurant is a Thai food haven. I'm sold! read more

Thai Basil - Oops I ate my Curry yellow check dish to fast....but yummy with the coconut milk and pineapple sauce. - Thai Near Me - Meridian, Idaho

I really wanted to like this place. Didn't realize Thai places were closed on Mondays so this was the only option we found that day. We ordered 5 entrees and a dessert and they barely had food in the bowls. My family of 4 didn't get to eat much, $75+ dollars later and we still needed to grab food after because we were all still hungry Also asked for level 4 spicy on 2 of the dishes, we love spicy food. Nothing had any spicy. read more

This place is so yummy! So of the best thai I've had. Went today around 5:10pm and wasnt busy at all. Our server was a really adorable older lady that seemed like one of the managers/owners. She was super nice and got our food out promptly. The atmosphere was good, classy but no too fancy, just casual enough to feel comfortable. We got the fried tofu for appetizer and it was delicious, fresh and hot and with a delicious plum sauce. I ordered the pad see ew with tofu on medium spice level and it was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend this place read more

Thai Basil - Pad see ew with tofu - Thai Near Me - Meridian, Idaho

Service staff has an attitude, and the food was all over cooked. Noodles were mushy. Not going back ever.

Definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in Boise! Our server Benz recommended entrees based on my request and couldn't have been anymore happier! It's been a struggle to find pad thai in Boise (that's edible). Green Curry was so well flavored and had just the rt amount of spice! read more

My husband and I arrived at 2:02 pm and they had already closed the dining room. (They advertise closed from 2:30pm to 4:00pm.) They did post an old sign that was scratched and difdicult to read. Hoping the sign was a mistake we waited as there were people in the dining room. The hostess came to the front and asked us for the name on the pickup order and we explained we would like a table. She informed us they close the dining room 20 minutes before they actually close. We were there TWENTY EIGHT minutes prior. She did not even offer a take out menu. Clearly they don't want our business, don't worry we won't be back. Not worth the drive from Caldwell to deal with a rude hostess. read more

Awesome food!!! We were in the area for my graduation at Boise State University from California and wanted Thai cuisine. We didn't expect to find a place as good as the place we dine in where we live. Delicious!! read more

THE BEST Thai food spot we have ever tried. The fried rice was very flavorful, the curry had a perfect kick to it, and the pad Thai was just perfect. Will definitely be back. Amazing and fast service as well! Would highly recommend. read more

Staff was nice but food was mediocre. I really thought that it would be much better from the reviews that I read. So disappointed

I wasn't aware of this eatery just west of that one southern doughnut place that people either love or just don't get the hype. Carl Y. let me know of Thai Basil and that it's run by the same folks that operate Pad Thai House at Overland and Five Mile in Boise. Unlike the former Taco John's location in Boise, that holds a certain nostalgia for me from my college days but is rather sterile, the Meridian outlet of this Thai empire has an elegant wood decor. The menu is pretty similar with Pad Thai House, but there were some special seasonal items offered on a separate menu sheet. I ordered the drunken, a pseudo pad kee mao with wide noodles. The Thai Basil version includes meat, bell peppers, onions, scallions and Thai basil. It's very good, same as at Pad Thai House. Ask for traditional Thai heat. The staff is friendly, just like at the Boise restaurant. I recommend both locations equally. The one thing I hated was their following new age restaurants that insist on calling their meat choices "protein." That's just lame. But doesn't take away from the quality of this restaurant. read more

I'm still looking for a Authentic Thai Restaurant. The fact that this place has the word Authentic on it made me choose to dine in. They lack some real ingredients. It seems that a lot of Thai restaurants here in Idaho go cheap on their ingredients and I think it's sad that people who eat there actually think this is how Thai dishes are really prepared. They serve sweet chili sauce (from a bottle) for their fresh spring rolls.. typically it's supposed to be a peanut sauce which I had requested. Also the larb had cabbage on the side instead of lettuce or lime leaves. Cabbage would really throw off the taste of the chicken larb when eaten together. The fresh spring rolls really lacked the correct ingredients. It was pretty much stuffed with iceberg lettuce. These aren't true Thai ingredients for making this. They skimp the real Authenticity by using cheaper products. read more

The food was ok. Service was fine. The server told us the credit card machine was not working. So they left us with no cash in Boise. I would pay with a card before you eat. Probably a scam. I guess they needed cash to pay the employees under the table. read more

This has been out go-to for Thai food in Meridian but our last trip was disappointing. We did take out and my green curry was different than usual, seemed like ingredients got skimped on. The real kicker was my daughter's beef dish. She's had it many times and was really looking forward to it but there was more chicken than beef and get this a few Shrimp! People have serious allergies to shellfish so finding shrimp in a beef dish was alarming. It was not good. Call placed to restaurant within an hour of picking up our meal was never returned. read more

So far the best Thai we've found in the area, beyond sawadee food truck in Nampa! The green curry was super flavorful, fried tofu on point and pad thai everything you'd expect (not usually our go-to dish but we were happy with it). We'll be back for sure! read more

I guess if you're craving Thai then it's a great place to go. But walking in I felt like I was bothering the employees there by just being there. They didn't give off the welcoming vibe. The service was good we were there at lunch time so it was busy, but they can at least pretend they want to be there. I was almost afraid to ask for water or the check. The food was good, of course. But they need to do something about their RBF's. read more

I've enjoyed a number of great dishes here. The Thai food is delicious, they even serve tasty Pho and Mongolian beef and Mandarin chicken. Tonight I was introduced to their A7. Cha Gio (Vietnamese egg rolls). Probably one of the best things I've had in a VERY long time. I had to take a star away as I looked at the menu online before I came in and decided to come in and get a dish with halibut over veggies. Their online menu (https://www.thaibasilidaho.com/menu) said that was +$5 for the fish. When I got there, the paper menus now list that as +10. The fish came out quite overcooked, chewy and in no way tender. Not worth paying extra for IMO. But I'll be back as I've had a number of nice experiences here with the food and friendly staff. I hope they update their website soon. read more

Thai Basil is quickly becoming a new favorite/takeout staple in our house. The yellow curry is sooooooooo flavorful and delicious. I had never seen pineapple in yellow curry before moving to Boise, but it works! The cream cheese puffs & egg rolls are so dang tasty with the slightly spicy plum dipping sauce. I'm obsessed. read more

Love lives here. Kind and generous spirits seem to reside within this building. You're always greeted with a smile and treated like they really appreciate your presence. I love the decor and whole atmosphere here! It's gorgeous inside. It's a spacious restaurant so it's doubtful you'd have to wait to be seated. The food is delicious. The menu is pretty much the exact same as their sister restaurant Pad Thai House with very little variation. Some of the names of the dishes are a little bit different, but the food is the same and I love consistency. Prices are good as well, so you can enjoy a delicious meal without breaking the bank. read more

Yuuuuum. I'm a connoiseur of all duck dishes and the duck curry did not disappoint. It was a good sized portion and didn't break the bank (unlike duck dishes at another thai restaurant in town) Especially wanted to give a shoutout for the service, especially to the waitress who patiently assisted my friends and I while we debated what level of spice we could tolerate. We got sweet fired wonton wrappers as a free starter, and everyone enjoyed their entrees and drinks. The bubble tea was especially pretty and I was tempted to get one myself. read more

One of the best Thai restaurant in Boise/Meridian. Good pad Thai and great summer rolls (pork one is better than shrimp). I normally order two plate of summer rolls. Yes, that good ! The volcano is good and I like it spicy. 5 is good while 8 is too spicy. Good overall. 3 spice fish is really good... they cut in cube so make it easy to share. Honey glazed duck is good, my son love it, but I found a little too sweet. You should close with fried ice cream, really delicious. We shared for 3 folks. read more

Service was lacking. Took quite a while for water and then a good 45 minutes for lunch to be served. They were not busy. It was so cold in there as well. Food was not good and we love Thai but will not be back. So many better restaurants in the area to spend our money. Chicken and vegetables- more Chinese than Thai. Really thick sweet brown sauce. Had to rinse the dish in our remaining soup broth and still couldn't eat it. Took the meat home to my dog, and he wouldn't even eat it. Hmmm... Won't be back. read more

We are almost directly across the street from this location, so this is a regular "go-to" for when we have a Thai craving. The wait staff are always nice and speedy. We have only taking it to-go, never ate in the restaurant. My favorite and always prime test of a good Thai place is their Pad Thai. That Basil absolutely passes my bench test, and delivers a delicious Pad Thai. If you like spicy then ask for Thai hot and it's not disappointing. If you are not a big spice person your face might literally melt. read more

Our service was slow. The entrees were brought to us one by one. First, the Mongolian Beef and then the Pho Soup. We had to ask for silverware.
