This is my first time at this sushi joint and I'm happy I stopped in. I didn't know what expect but walking in, I noticed how bright it was inside. It was a little later in the afternoon so it did miss the lunch rush. I was instantly greeted and sat. There are quite a few tables and a fun sushi bar to sit at. Today's review is kinda hard since I didn't really get a chance to try anything but the miso soup. I'm on a liquid diet for my upcoming procedure so I stopped in to grab some miso to go. I did have a bowl to eat while I was there. The miso came out warm. I would have liked it a little hotter but it was still at a good temp. It was flavorful and rich. The salt level was nice, it wasn't overly salty. I wish I was able to get all the goodies that came along with the miso but I'm sure it would have been that much better with all the stuff in it. I enjoyed as much of my bowl as I could and took the rest home. My to go portion was huge! They had it all packed and bagged nicely for me. I look forward to eating it tonight as an option besides chicken broth. The next time I go to this joint, I'll have to make sure I try a little bit of everything. Sushi rolls- the seaweed was like a plastic bag- could not chew it at all...literally had to spit it out- ruined the whole meal and could not eat anything else. The teriyaki meal was average (looked and tasted like boiled meat with teriyaki sauce on top), the habachi chicken and shrimp was the better option...the best thing was the fried rice. overall, not great and definitely over priced. read more

My wife and I tried this place for the very first time. I ordered the Eastern Roll and she had the California Roll. She said she really liked hers and mine was absolutely delicious. We are sushi lovers and have had been to some wonderful sushi spots near and far. This by far is the worst tasting sushi we have ever had. The sushi rolls had imitation everything in it...perhaps the cucumbers were actually fresh, but that's it. I ordered my husband a chicken teriyaki dinner with tempura, he's not a picky eater but even he gagged at one bite of his chicken. The tempura tasted like very old panko breading and DO NOT get me started on the old stale oil they used. It was really bad. My wife and I managed to get a table without reservations on a Saturday night, just before the dinner rush, which was a great move. Everything was delicious, put most appealing was their sushi selection, particularly for me, their angel and rainbow rolls. I also tried some of their noodles but was too stuffed to finish it that night. However, the noodles were still good the next day so big thumbs up for that impression. Dropped by today for a quick lunch. It was quiet inside and guests were staggered nicely around the Restaruant. Had some Miso soup, nigiri tuna, salmon, and halibut. Those familiar with Nigiri it's normally served 2 pieces per order, here you get 3 at a great price! Fish was fresh and the presentation was done with a bit of flare on a large green leaf. Nice job! Walking in you don't really get greeted so we had to say um hello should we sit anywhere? We were invisible to the hostess at the podium for about a full minute which was odd. She didn't even look up and say hi. They could use more staff but the place looked clean and was pretty busy. I just had miso soup and pot stickers so I can't really critique on those since they are both stock/frozen I'm sure, but hubby had yellow tail and said it was very good. There was a lot to like here. A welcoming vibe, gracious service, good food, broad menu and fair prices and what seems as if it might be a family owned business. We're glad we went in and we'll go back - 4 stars on the horizon. WELCOMING VIBE Light, bright setting and everything was sparkling clean. Sushi bar with seating at same as one of the options and the fish in the case seemed very fresh. Seating is standard height at the sushi bar and at tables throughout the restaurant. Additional seating at teppanyaki tables in the back of the restaurant for dinner service. This is not 'high flashy' ambiance, but a welcoming, un-pretentious setting. We liked it. GRACIOUS SERVICE We were welcomed and seated promptly by a friendly woman who provided menus. Our orders were taken after a while by a gracious server who helped us decipher the things we didn't know on the menu. My husband and I are pretty savvy food folks but sushi specifically and Japanese food in general is not often a choice for us so we're babes in the woods for many menu items. Our server didn't make us feel one bit like country bumpkins for asking questions and he was happy to answer them and direct us to choices he thought we'd enjoy. For example, I learned the little orange fish roe I detest on sushi is called tobiko and he happily offered to leave it off the roll we wanted. (I know...I dislike Beluga caviar too...call me a hick. :-) ) GOOD FOOD Based on our lunch, the food is good. We enjoyed the Panda roll and the sweet potato tempura. The Panda roll ingredients all tasting distinctly flavored and fresh and the texture of the sushi rice was just right. That you can order sweet potatoes as tempura on their own; we like veggie tempura too but the sweet potatoes are our fav part, is 'thumbs up' from us. The presentation was a unique one for that the sweet potato pieces were cut large. The tempura coating was just enough but not too thick and was perfectly cooked to be crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The serving size was generous and served piping hot to the table. BROAD MENU & FAIR PRICES The menu included soups, salads, appetizers, sushi, sashimi, nigri, rolls, rice bowls, noodle options in both udon and yakisoba presentations, bento boxes at lunch (only about $8) and entrees. The man who took our order was setting plates at the teppanyaki tables right about the time we were finishing up lunch at 2:00 so it suggests to me teppanyaki menu is available at dinner. Our roll was $12.95, the tempura was $4.50 and green tea only $1 each with our tea mug kept filled. Lunch for two for less than $20 before tax seemed a good deal to us. READ BEYOND THE HEADLINE TO SEE ALL THE DATA... ...is advice I always give to folks trying to figure out what is really going on in anything. Yet I didn't take my own advice here. We delayed going in for the year we've lived near by and driven maybe hundreds because I never looked beyond the 3 star average in Yelp to read the reviews. Which goes to show you need to read the reviews and I find it best to do that in sort order of "newest first". If you take a look at chronology here you'll see the average stars are dragged down to a spate of poor reviews relative to service in 2013 to the mid 2014 era. Which don't necessarily apply today but do lower the overall rating. More recent reviews trend higher. Also since one reviewer in a negative review dinged the restaurant for not having Japanese speaking people working there somehow suggesting inauthenticity, I'll share that during our lunch time there were many service people front of house, including sushi chefs behind the counter and some of the kitchen staff eating their meals at a back table who were all Japanese heritage and they were speaking Japanese with each other and English with their guests. For what it's worth to whom that matters. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in the lot. Level in the door and all on one level. All seating is standard height. 3) NEXT TIME: We noted that all of the kitchen staff were enjoying rice bowl menu options for lunch. That sounds like a pretty darned good idea to us to try next time too! 4) TAKE OUT MENU: We noticed a take out menu on our way out the door. That sounds like a great idea after a busy day. read more

Wife and went there an I ordered a small variety of items. Fish was old. I tried several pieces from different dishes to see if it was all the same... it was consistently old tasting. It was like it sat for too long or maybe is was frozen after it sat out for a day. The waiter was nice. Check out the pattern of reviews. I'm really sad to see one of my favorite places go down hill. Our last visit was anything but plesant. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with this but the older gentlemen who is usually calling the shots was not present when we went. Our sushi was not as flavorful as it once was. I spent my entire pregnancy not eating sushi and I was so excited to return to my favorite place. We were the ONLY customers in the resturant from 4-5 on a Thursday night. And somehow we got the worst service imaginable. We were asked our main order and given the sushi and never spoke to again. My husband wanted more sake but we didn't see a waiter for the remainder of our time. One lady was sitting down counting up bills. It was like we were inconvincing them while they were trying to do nothing. We would have loved to order more rolls as we have done in the past but at that point I think we were just aggravated. We were not approached again until they came smiling with the bill. As we we're leaving a younger waitress was staring down at her phone and did not even say good bye to us. I'm not sure I have it in me to return. If I do not see the old manager (or owner ??) again then I am on the quest for a better sushi place. read more

I was so surprised at how unflavorful and mediocre our sushi was based on the other reviews... I honestly had better sushi from a grocery store. We ordered take out on a sunday night, 4 rolls and veggie tempura. The tempura was good but the rolls all tasted the same other then the sauces. After 3 years of testing, this is our go-to sushi restaurant. We love it! We even have a note in our phone of what we love so we remember since there are so many options. We get the Fiery (shimp tempura with tuna), the Cowboy roll (shrimp and tuna), and the Spicy Girl (avacado, tuna and crab). We also get the edemame and fried rice. I expected better. We sat at a table and service was so-so. Some of us had already had two or three sushi courses, including their last, while I still hadn't even received my order. Sushi was very ordinary and not noteworthy at all. The only good thing was the sweet shrimp (ama ebi), the fried heads were nicely sized, well fried and with a nice sauce on top. The plate itself looked very nice. We had finished everything and were getting ready to leave when the waitress showed up with the 'Dragon' sushi roll, which we'd all but forgotten at that point. So we ordered dinner tonight and were super disappointed. We got a chicken udon and shrimp soba dish and both were gross. The friend rice was just white rice with a little bit of egg and way too much soy sauce. We ended up tossing everything. The sushi roll we got was decent, but I don't think we will be back.
