This is a review that came from an UberEats delivery to my job. It is my first time using UberEats…read moreto order food from out of state.
So initially, I wanted to give this place one more try before I decided to write a full-on review of the place. I feel like just a handful of items would have been a bit unfair given their extensive menu, especially since they specialize not only in Chinese food, but Japanese and Thai as well. However, after the delivery of the food and some of the things that happened while I was eating, I had to share this now. Maybe I will still order from this one more time and update if anything changes.
Honestly, I've been wanting to order food from Pound Ridge for quite a while now, and this place seemed as good a place as any. This place is just across the state line, yet when I looked the place up on maps, it was apparently only about a 20-minute drive to where I work. Anywho, when I looked to see when my order was getting in, I was a bit surprised to learn that the staff here took it upon themselves to deliver it to my job. Of course, the delivery time UberEats promised had already passed by about 20 minutes by that point, so I called the number provided (the number of the restaurant). I will say that the service I got wasn't bad at all. They were kind enough to give me an ETA and were willing to work with me through what needed to be done to make sure I got my food. They did say it would be a few minutes till they got there when I called. They had never been where I was, so I get the confusion. Lo and behold, it was there about 7 minutes after the call. I'd say that was a success.
Now, when I got my food, I had seen that they had put in a menu for the restaurant themselves. Furthermore, these guys do delivery, and they have multiple ways you can order online. I decided to keep the menu in case I wanted to order from them again some other day. Maybe I might even save a little going on their website instead. Who knows!
As for the food itself, I got their fried calamari for their appetizer, the shrimp teriyaki meal for the entree, and a can of Coke to drink. The shrimp teriyaki meal, like other Japanese offerings, comes with miso soup and a green salad. I didn't do Thai because I had already just had Thai last weekend in New Haven. Let's break it down.
The fried calamari is a new item of theirs on the Chinese menu that comes with a sweet chili dipping sauce. It had a light crisp to it, nothing too crazy. The dipping sauce here was a great accompaniment to it, a decent plus since I already am a fan of good fried calamari. However, I do have to dock it for one big reason I found while I was eating. The reason? A piece of plastic, much like what would hold a straw before drinking a CapriSun, was in my calamari, at first indistinguishable from the rest of the dish. I had to roll it open to confirm what it was and went on accordingly.
The shrimp teriyaki has a few pieces of broccoli to go along with the shrimp itself. It wasn't amazing, but it was decent to good. It'll do if you need to get your fix in for some shrimp teriyaki. Just don't expect anything award-winning. The sauce was the best thing of the dish.
Oh, and if you are a fan of miso soup, this will do the job. Honestly, I don't eat soups all that often, but I do like me some miso soup from time to time. This had to have been a white bean miso as opposed to a red one. I could be remembering it wrong, but red miso tends to be healthier than white, but both do well. It's probiotic with pieces of tofu and other stuff along for the ride. If you need to get the most out of your soup, give it a stir before taking a spoonful.
Again, it's not going to win any Awards, but it's not really trying to. A strong 3. The plastic in the calamari kept me from rating this any higher, but I'll keep the menu and leave the option of ordering from here again a possibility. If the next experience improves, then not only will I update this review, but I may even recommend this place to my job.
