After many years of eating here once or twice a week, I'm sorry to say that I no longer visit as of several months ago. I'm only just now writing the review because I was going to give it one more shot, and I walked by there and there was only one table occupied during lunch. It used to be packed. I really love the staff and would consider them friends, but the quality of food slipped badly after ownership change. For example, I always got the green curry. The last time I got it the chicken was sticking up out of the curry and it clearly had been pre-cooked and dried out under a heat lamp. It was also completely unseasoned and bland. The curry itself has lost its creamy texture and was now runny. In changing their recipes, they made their food much worse and have lost customers. Let me be clear to the ownership: your food quality is poor now, and you do your staff and customers a disservice. It's a bummer, because it was something I looked forward to every week. the food and the people that worked there. read more

Delicious Thai food great service! Thai basil is one of my favorite spots for consistently delicious Thai food. I have a few go to dishes that never disappoint. The crispy noodles are perfectly cooked with great texture. The Pad Thai full of flavor and the eggplant dish is incredibly tasty. One thing I really appreciate is how they let you choose your spice level, whether you like it hot, medium, or mild they're always super accommodating. The food is always fresh and you can really taste the quality in every bite. The restaurant is clean. The staff is friendly and service is always quick and efficient. Great all around. read more

Ever since ownership of this restaurant changed the food quality has gone wayyy down. Their portions are much smaller but the prices have increased. We ordered the pad krawpoa with chicken and kang massaman with fried tofu diner specials and were very disappointed. The fragrant flavor was missing almost entirely from the pad krawpoa and was very oily, as for the kang massaman the fried tofu was over fried and tasted like the dirty oil they used to cook it in. The kang massaman was also missing peanuts which I was looking forward to. The side salad offered with the entrees was covered in a thick warm peanut sauce instead of the lemon dressing they've used in the past and they've changed their eggrolls to an obviously frozen variety that was mushy inside and tasted like it was freezer burnt. The table next to us had pad thai and pad see ew which looked amazing and HUGE compared to our tiny gross tasting food. We left with a stomach ache from all the oil in our food and fought upset stomachs all night. 2/5 stars. We might be back for the noodle dishes but we will not be ordering our favorite dishes here anymore. Will be searching for other Thai spots for a good time. Tuesday afternoon lunch at the Thai Basil really hit my craving for their famous family favorite the Sizzling rice soup filled with mouth watering goodness. The White Flower fungi salad was special and a lasting sour taste but pairs well with the shrimp. And of I couldn't resist their ultra Delicious fried Coconut shrimp is just so Darn crispy and Bite-sized Dynamite!! Their lunch menu options only come with meat-based items (like the soup and wontons), which alienates people who cannot have meat. Excellent flavor - definitely recommend! They don't have honey beef but do have satays that are quite good. The curried tofu has huge tofu pieces in it. Pad thai noodles were perfect. I selected the hot scale of 8 / 10. I'd get that again too read more

The lunch specials are awesome; the food is delicious, the portion is just right, and it's cheaper than fast food. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, I always ask questions about the spice levels, I'm a medium plus kinda guy and my server recommended 7:10 for level and she was spot on. Highly recommend. We've been dining here for over a decade. Nicest staff along with flavorful, consistently good food. With a mixture of meat eaters and vegetarians, everyone always walks away happy. Their tom kha tofu soup is my favorite - it's the one to which I compare all other tom khas at other restaurants. Their drunken noodles and pad thai are always perfectly balanced. It's mild with a creamy sauce and savory of coconut cream. You can choose the spiciness level. Usually I choose no.4 ( mild to medium), lt has little kick to it. I do not recommend too spicy as you cant taste the curry flavor. # Shrimp fried rice # Pad see eww # Crispy chicken ( deep dried chicken with slightly salty flavor pair with sweet chili sauce, so good. The fried chicken look dry but the more you taste it the more flavor you'll get! # Dessert- Sticky rice with mango -Highly suggest to ask if they have the sweet mango before ordering. Second time to order takeout/ pickup and they never disappoint! I have yet to eat at the restaurant but it looks great and there's always a lot of people. We ordered pad see ew and chicken satay. I have been to this restaurant over 10 years and the portion of food keeps shrinking even though prices have gone up. They definitely cheat the protein, I barely saw any chicken in my pad see ew and pad thai. I saw only 4 veggie in my pad see ew so not only do they put less protein but also veggie as well. I also ordered pork and the portion was so small, at least put some veggies such as cabbage to fill it up. I opened it up and the portion was incredibly small, I think a child can eat it all. I spend $50 for 3 dishes (no rice) and I feel incredibly ripped off. I am going to look for another Thai restaurant, I don't like how they run their business at Thai Basil. Before yesterday, I had a draft of a four star review written for this place. I have been coming here for years and wanted to give them the perfect review. They originally were not good, but they got better in the past five or so years. My usual order is either beef or chicken panang (used to be super oily) with rice and beef or chicken Pad Se Ew. Their Thai tea is good, as well as their mango sticky rice. I kept coming here because it was convenient and the food was pretty good. Since Covid, the wait has been longer than usual, even during off peak times, but I want to support small businesses, so I deal with it. Unfortunately, yesterday's experience might just be my last. I'm not a stickler for service-- I only really notice when it's really good or really bad. I don't complain about mediocre service as long as the food's good -- However, I highly value my time and if something's going to take forever, I would like to know. I called in an incredibly small order (one beef Panang) at 6:10pm on Wednesday. The lady said it'd be 30mins. She yelled into the phone, "6:40pm". I was coming from work and just wanted to pick up food and get home, so I almost said, "cancel my order, that wait is too long" but I wanted to support this small business, so I figured I'd read my book and wait. I got to the restaurant, sat in my car and read until 6:45pm. I waited in a small line for a couple people to pick up before I could let them know I was there and pay. When the lady finally talked to me, she said my order wasn't ready (at 6:50) and that it would be another 10-15 minutes. I told her that I was told it would be ready at 6:40, so she went to the back, came out and informed me that they were working on it, but offered me no time estimate. Normally when things like this happen, good restaurants will apologize, offer you a beverage while you wait, or a dessert for your patience. Nah, this woman pretty much didn't care. Ten minutes later, she handed me my food. She didn't offer any remorse for the incredibly underestimated time estimate, nor did she even thank me for my patronage. After waiting almost an hour for ONE dish, the food better be perfect. I got home to find that my "panang" was an oily beef mess, with a brown piece of basil on top. Panang is a soup, and there wasn't even enough sauce to moisten my rice. There was about an inch of oil on top of the beef, though. My box of rice wasn't even full. Like white rice is so expensive. I don't know what happened yesterday, but I attached a photo of the panang I got from Thai Basil on October 23, next to the photo of the "panang" from last night. Waste of time and money. Next time, I will absolutely not trust their time estimate, if there is a next time. Honestly I just might drive further for better quality Thai, if this is what I get at Thai Basil. read more

I love love Thai Food and since I've been at CSUF this is my spot to go. We've actually had a work meeting at this place before the pandemic back in 2019, because it's a cute, clean area and the food is super good. Oh! And the ladies here are super nice, and that hasn't changed despite all the struggles that these businesses have probably gone through they still pride themselves on that. My go to- Pad See Ew with Tofu and they will always ask "is egg ok?" I like that they take it into consideration, I'm not a vegetarian, but I do love a great tofu! My friend loves their Pad Thai! We ordered for take out and it took about 15min so we just hopped over to ShareTea while waiting. If you're not feeling "noodles" I'd recommend the Pineapple Chicken Curry with brown rice. Super yummy! For now those are the top of my list at this place! Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, and Pineapple Chicken Curry! Check out their lunch menu pretty good for the price! I ordered small soup and younger lady brought me an egg soup and was not good at all was very slimy I asked her if I can exchange for different soup and she rolled her eyes grab the soup and tossed it to a tray right behind her and walked away. Brought new soup later but didn't even talk to me or acknowledge me which I thought was rude and funny at same time. This place used to be a staple for us at CSUF. We called it campus south and meet there all the time. We used to take guests here and meet here with colleagues. But since ownership changed 4...4 people have gotten explosive diarrhea after eating there. On four different occasions! Once is a fluke, twice maybe, but 4 times... we're done.
