Rolled into town on a rainy day and had some allergies lingering. Pho is my go to dish on these occasions so I did a quick flip through on Yelp. I saw reviews on this place saying it was definitely more of an Americanized approach to Thai food and that spice levels were incredible, as well as hearty portions. These are all incredibly accurate and spot on. I feel there needs to be a stronger emphasis on Americanized approach, because their preparation definitely falls in this line. Overall, incredibly tasty. It is definitely meat/noodle heavy, I would have enjoyed more broth. And I must say, I was shocked to see the noodles and meat combined with the broth in my take out. Traditionally, you do not add noodles and meat until ready to serve. Their chicken satay is the best you'll ever find- lightly marinated in their amazing sauce and cooked to perfection. Plus, their homemade peanut sauce that you dip it in is unheard of. This is the best Thai food I've ever had and very consistent every time we go there. The Phad Thai noodles with bison are my favorite, very tender meat, sauces are very flavorful, and makes you want more. My girlfriends favorite is the pineapple fried rice which has yellow curry powder, absolutely delicious. The portion sizes are enormous for the price. I was so excited about this place and I really wanted to like it. But unfortunately the first initial impression was not good. They close at 9, we came in around 8:30. There are two doors, one for dine-in and one for takeout. The second we walked in the dine-in door, we are greeted with a very loud, "hey guys! Are you getting carry out today?!" I was stunned at first, and wasn't sure how to respond. When I said we were planning on dining in the hostess was noticeably irritated. After we were sat our waiter (who was the only one who didn't seemed completely bothered by our presence) got us drinks. Then I heard another staff member ask him if we were a new table and she gave us a very dirty look when he said yes. The Thai tea is very watered down, almost no flavor. We scanned the menu and ordered quickly, beef salad as an appetizer, with pad Thai and pineapple fried rice. First of all the entrees came out before the appetizer (????). The beef salad ($12 btw) contained about 6 tiny strips of beef, on top of what I guarantee you is spring mix from the grocery store, tossed in chili paste from a bottle. There were also no cucumbers in it, which was listed in the description on the menu. The pineapple fried rice was under seasoned. As for the pad Thai (me and the boyfriend both agreed) it was bland, oily, and rubbery. When the waiter came back to check on us and asked how the food was, he didn't bat an eye when my response was "it's ok". The second time he came back, he already had the check and didn't ask if we were interested in dessert. The staff started deep cleaning the lobby while we were eating. Not a single person said a single word when we left. As for the the actual restaurant, it looks like they are trying to make it rustic, there was not a single authentic Thai decoration that I could find. I understand it's a new restaurant and there is going to be a few kinks, so I plan on waiting a month or two and seeing if it's any better. But they need to fix both the staff and the food. Fairly disappointed. This restaurant came highly recommended. We were first in line to be seated and waited a long time for a host. When we were finally seated, our waitress spoke in a tone that made it seem she was annoyed by having to serve us. We had to wait a long time to get water refills, so long my husband almost got up to refill it himself. We were treated more as a nuisance, although we never complained to them. The Tom Kha tasted fishy and putrid sweet; nothing like genuine. In fact, we had a few bites and left it because it was unpleasant. The desserts were very good, however; so was the Thai Tea. Our experience was great!! I really love Udon, and after trying the pork dumpling udon , I don't think I'll order it anywhere else! It was amazing, and had so much flavor. Our server was great. About 15 seconds into the experience things were already taking a turn for the worst. The hostess was having trouble with the menus. She turned to us and said, "sorry the menus are really sticky." Hmmm, might have considered keeping that to yourself. The waitress was nice enough but at $19 for a plate of pad Thai I would expect she could remember who ordered what at a table of two as opposed to auctioning food off. We both ordered 4 out of 5 for spice and came out at .5 out of 5 at the most. I got Bison pad Thai and it was some of the worst food I've ever had. I ate maybe four bites. I don't remember what my friend got but it was equally as horrific. Furthermore, they didn't even bother touching the paint up after the former establishment that occupied that building left. The food was flavorless, the "spring rolls" were fried like egg rolls, the green tea came in Kirkland green tea packets which anyone can buy from Costco down the road, and the menu items were overpriced. For three adults and one child, we spent close to $100. If the food had been authentic and good, I might have felt different about the cost. Went to the new restaurant for the first time during midweek around 6:30 p.m. and the place was nearly full. Wait staff came over and took our order that took about 25 minutes to get. During that time two other meals were delivered that were not ours. So we watched at least two waiters wandering around asking people if these were their dishes. The service was pretty chaotic and staff definitely need some training. Food was okay to good, but not great. Ordered chicken, basil and vegetable stir fry and found two pieces of basil sitting in a tasty but watery sauce. Ordered the dish as a "three" heat but it was almost too hot to eat. Also ordered Pad Thai which was pretty average. Ordered a "two" heat and it was not hot at all. We'll go back again to try the curry and another dish and give it another chance. The food is good, but the company and their policies are ridiculous. $40 spent on a takeout order, only to get home on this icy and snowy night to find that my order was incorrect. I called to ask for a voucher, as I do not enjoy wide noodled Pad Thai, and I was told by the manager on duty that "company policy dictates that customers drive the order back in so we can remake it". I was lucky to get home without incident, as people are slipping and sliding all around, but either way it works out. I used to frequent Thai Basil in Bozeman around 1-3 time per month, each time spending around $40-$60, but they have effectively guaranteed that I will never eat there again. I will be sure to share this story with everyone I know, and any casual acquaintances I meet (when asked about places to eat in Bozeman). You would think that in a town of around 45,000 people, companies would pursue a more customer friendly route. But, as the manager said, "We were losing too much money on vouchers for incorrect meals". They have certainly lost my money, and it would have amounted to a lot more than $20 (for my half of the order). read more

We have eaten meals here and had great food and great service. Not today. We arrived for lunch at 11:30. Maybe 5 other tables were occupied. The waitress took my order: Pad Thai with shrimp. When she asked for the level of spiciness I desired I said none. Zero spice. She appeared to write that down along with my husband's order. She came back shortly with our plates. I took one bite and stopped. My meal was spicy. On a scale of 1-5, probably a 3. Our waitress had not stopped to check on our meals. We had to call her to our table. I explained my meal was spicy. Her reaction was surprising. She seemed annoyed at me. I asked if maybe my order was mixed up with another customer's....she said no but didn't apologize. Finally walked away with my plate. My husband looked at me and remarked that he didn't understand why she didn't like us....me either....she returned later, after my husband had finished his lunch, with another plate, put it in front of me and walked away. We are a retired couple and eat out locally a lot. I have yet to have another server at any restaurant in Bozeman treat us the way she treated me. This restaurant has alot of competition here and in Livingston. We will be enjoying Thai food elsewhere from now on. That waitress needs to learn that there is alot more to her job than taking orders. Good customer service is critical to a restaurant's success. read more

We are from out of town and decided to give Thai Basil a try for lunch on a Saturday. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and the service amazing. My mom is a picky eater and they were very accommodating with her order. They make everything to order so you can substitute anything on any menu item. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and helped us to pick meals we would both enjoy. We started with the spring rolls as an appetizer. They were very light and refreshing definitely not greasy like you get at some restaurants. We ordered Thai fried rice with chicken and sweet and sour chicken. I loved that you could choose your spice level for the dishes. Our food arrived quickly and the portions were huge! The food was fresh and very flavorful. It was so good we couldn't stop eating! We also ordered the chocolate gelato for dessert. It was the perfect ending to our lunch. Everything about our meal was outstanding!
