We were in town visiting and wanted some pho on a rainy day. There were like no other pho spots in town so we decided to give this place a try and honestly it did not disappoint. It was quiet and calm inside which was nice and our host/server was super sweet. He might actually owns the place but made sure to help us with anything we needed and that we understood the menu. My husband and I were on vacation in Montana and I was craving something warm since it was cold and lightly snowing outside. We drive by Pho Sai Gon and I told my husband to turn around and go back. Pho Sai Gon is in a building among other businesses and is bigger on the inside than it appears to be (sort of like the tardis...). There was a short line at the host stand, which I didn't mind until the hostess forgot to come back for us as she had promised after she sat the couple in front of us. Twenty minutes later and we were in the front of a line that surpassed the door. The hostess finally came back and apologized, admitting that she forgot about us...and the line that grew after us. The decor is simple and there were pantry items in the middle of the restaurant that I'm assuming were either for sale or perhaps the kitchen is tiny (?). The hostess ended up also being our server. It was the middle of a work week and an odd meal time (2pm), so the restaurant wasn't that busy. For my entree, I ordered the chicken pho. It was good/pretty standard pho. My husband ordered the broken rice with chicken and beef. He thought it was subpar as his beef was room temperature. We came here for dinner earlier in the week because one of us was recovering from a nasty stomach virus and was desperate for some pho as she was making her way back towards food. This place has a terrible parking situation and was virtually empty when we arrived, but our server still managed to be MIA almost the entire time we were there. The chicken pho was too salty--and believe us when we say that it takes a lot for us to say as much. However, it was flavorful and there was a decent amount of meat. Our daughter opted for the beef pho with rare flank, and that was also pretty tasty with a rich broth that you could really taste the meat in. (Sidebar: we have been to dozens of pho restaurants in our lives and they always--always!--have a kid's pho option. Not here though! So we had to order her a portion that was three times what she would normally eat and three times the price as well.) The chicken broken rice dish was fine with its grilled meat, perfectly regular rice, and veggies. Nothing special, but it was what it needed to be. We got a couple boba teas for dessert and the canteloupe slushee was so sweet that it was gross, and the taro smoothie ended up being pure liquid because all the ice had melted. It wasn't very good. We almost feel like we can't complain because this is the only pho place in Bozeman, Montana, and we were lucky that there was even one! And the soup was pretty passable. Very inconsistent. Sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it's not good at all. Once ordered the spring rolls and they literally don't put any of the veggies or pork in the rolls?? Had to call bank to get a refund for my order. We're either impressed or super disappointed. The menu items listed as GF (gluten free) literally come with sauce that has wheat in it- but they don't tell you! Found out the hard way. You cannot list something as GF if it is not 100% GF. Also, ALL of the appetizers that say GF are fried in the SAME FRYER as ALL the other food!! NOT GF at all. Such a bummer!!! This is not a good pho restaurant, as someone who has eaten pho at least once a month for most of my life. First, we ordered a smoothie with boba. The smoothie itself was very sweet but not too bad, while on the other hand, the boba was basically rock hard. It had obviously been pre made and left sitting out for a long time. We told the waiter and they offered us a remake of a different drink, or for the drink to be taken off the bill, which we opted for, since the boba would still be hard even if they remade it since they were using the same batch. The spring rolls were not good either; the rice paper at the ends was hard like it had been premade as well. Now, the pho was a whole other issue. The broth which should be one of the main components had a very strong spices flavor but very little actually beef flavor, which is the whole point. The pho bowls were very small portions, and we weren't even hungry. There wasn't enough meat in the pho and it was very inconsistent. There were less than 5 pieces of brisket which were varying thicknesses from thin to very chunky, the very chunky pieces were hard to chew. Tendon, however, was abundant in some of my party's pho. The tendon was nice and soft. In the broken rice dish, the meat is well seasoned but ranges from tender to hard. However, the chili and thai oils are very fragrant. It's a pretty big space inside. The inconsistency and very under average pho makes this a restaurant we would not return to. read more

Visitor to the area from Greater DC/MD, was out in Billings the previous 2 days and was in the mood for some pho after arriving in Bozeman. I don't think Billings has a Viet restaurant and with all the rain over the past days I was ready for a bowl. I eat pho generally once a week back east and this was pretty good. Got the Sai Gon Bowl (all cuts of meat, including tendon + tripe) - a healthy sized portion, I'd scale between a small and large bowl from what I'm familiar with.. The broth was great, noodles were proper, and the meats were generous and tasty. I appreciated the garlicky chili oil on the side, I always put it in the spoon to dip the noodles/meats/veggies into. I think I finished in 5 minutes.. . Not an all time fave, but it will hit the spot if you get the craving as I did and it was much better than I expected.. I am not Viet decent (Chino) so I can't vouch for authenticity, but it definitely worked for me. Will remember for my next visit out here. Other details, the space was clean and well lit, high ceilings and Sade was playing softly over the PA while I was there. It also has a small market area with Viet food products, fish sauce etc.. Don't miss this spot, a true 10/10! I don't say this often because I'm really particular about my pho, but this place knocked everything out of the park: Service was very kind and attentive. Constantly refilled our waters and checked in on us. The food, wow. The banh mi sandwich was loaded and well worth the money! It's a big hearty sandwich and all fresh ingredients. The pho broth is so clean and delicious. And their side homemade chili had fresh chopped garlic and shredded ginger in it! Fantastic!! The broken rice dish was also beautifully presented. We all devoured our dishes, it was that yummy. The inside decor is very inviting and is very clean and modern. It even has a roll up door to let you enjoy the outside warm air while dining inside. The seats at Pho Sai Gon need to be filled immediately. Seriously, I don't know how this restaurant is not constantly busy. My husband and I dined in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and aside from two other couples, we were the only ones there. The atmosphere itself was clean and inviting. There were signs up saying they're short-staffed so I see how it could potentially be an issue. We waited for a bit before someone was able to greet us. But once we got our food, that didn't matter much. For our appetizer, we ordered the vegetarian egg rolls. I typically prefer the meat-version but Pho Sai Gon's has shrimp in it and we have to be cautious of a seafood allergy. Regardless, it was delicious. Fried perfectly and the veggies inside weren't overcooked or soggy. Despite the summer temperatures, I was craving pho. I ordered the double cut beef choice with flank steak and tendon. It was so good! Our waiter also let me know that Thai chilis and chili oil were an option if I wanted them. The Thai chilis were no joke when it comes to the heat-factor but I love spicy foods so this was great for me. My husband had the grilled pork bahn mi and really enjoyed it! He's typically not that adventurous with his food so it made me happy that he wants to come back. For drinks, I had a taro smoothie and my husband had a strawberry smoothie - we both added boba. The drinks were refreshing and not overly sweet. I've had terrible boba drinks around town but these were tasty. And bonus: they have a couple of great lunch specials so stop in before 2pm! Visiting a cold Snowy Montana we decided to try Pho for dinner. Pho Sai Gon wasn't too far away and we were excited to try a few appetizers alongside the pho. It was a short drive from the hotel and there was a small parking lot behind the building. Inside was well lit, bright decor and inviting! The staff was friendly and it does look family run. The egg rolls wete definitely on our list and We wanted to try the popcorn chicken but they were out for the day. We decided on the wings instead. The rolls and wings were delicious. The roll dipping sauce was light and sweet. Each table had a sweet hoisin sauce we tried that on the wings too! The pho- we tried the Chicken with beef brisket and shrimp added. What a gem of a restaurant in Bozeman! I was craving for some Vietnamese food after flying in from Philadelphia. I actually was not expecting much, but this place far exceeded my expectations. Interior is well designed and clean. The service was wonderful, staffs were friendly, food was flavourful and plentiful. We ordered vermicelli grilled pork with spring roll - nicely flavoured. Contemporary interior, nice servers. Hip clientele 12 minute from ordered to serving. Broth is very shallow as far as the depth of flavor goes. Rare beef and meatballs were sparse Grandpa helping the 20 somethings around the restaurant. Baby on daddy's chest. You can tell they are working hard. If you are aching for Pho give them a try Maybe tell the servers not to interrupt the clients when they have their face down slurping noodles with" how is everything?" Really? Excited to see another Asian food spot pop up in Bozeman. We went there on grand opening and this place surprised us. Look, you're not gonna expect authentic Asian restaurants in Bozeman. That's a fact. Thai Basil, Wasabi, Seven, those are catered to different tastes. We don't even have a proper ramen here. Considering this, Bone Broth over in Belgrade is a great start and to me is pretty close to authentic. Please note we have eaten pho in over 100 locations from amazing to bad. We consider ourselves pho-snobs. Or fobs? So how do I like this place? For first day opening I thought their service did extremely well. They were backed up from orders and didn't seat everyone at once. We ordered the wings, spring rolls, ultimate fish balls, and coconut shrimp as appetizers and I thought they were pretty good. The only complaint I had out of them are the lettuce used in spring rolls, the ones you wrap the rolls and dip it into the sauce. It was soggy. Perhaps they did not use paper towels between their lettuce while prepping. Total turn off when eating it. Of course, if you're here, you are having pho. We both ordered the most expensive pho, with all cuts of meat. The broth was terrific and the cuts of meat was decent. However, there are some big concerns. Although I love tendon and tripe(please don't call it gristle soup, it is tendon), their cuts of tendon was passable but tripe was honey comb tripe, not omasum(book) tripe. I understand that most of your customers won't even try tripe, but the real authentic tripe is omasum. While I can forgive the former, the next issue I can't wrap my head around. Why do they put in all the greens for you already including blanched beansprouts? The right way is scalding hot broth onto the bowl. Thai Basil, bean sprouts, jalapeño, and maybe if you really want authenticity, use culantro, are meant to be on the side. For you to pick the leaves of the Thai basil onto the soup and not eating whole stems. Finding whole stems of Thai basil in the soup is pretty yuck. By doing what Pho Sai Gon is doing, you're pouring hot soup onto cold items, thus making your soup warm and not hot. Hell, mine was barely hot. I see I'm not the only one complaining of the above as they posted on their social media the reasoning behind it is to keep waste low. I understand, but write it as an option in your menu please. Prices, higher than usual. But you pay the Bozeman tax right? Consider this, the state with the highest cost of living, Hawaii, has over 20+ amazing authentic Vietnamese restaurants. Those pho usually run around $12-14 a bowl for their combination pho(with everything). Pho Sai Gon charges $21. read more

The decor/look of this place inside is so cute! It has a clean, modern chic vibe while also honoring Vietnamese culture (music and artwork). Loved our server. This is definitely a small, local business. You really feel connected to the family and community here. It's not like one of those mass-chain restaurants. Our server also happened to be the owner. He moved from California with his wife to be closer to his younger brother who is attending the university and ended up falling in love with the place and staying. He was genuinely excited to serve us and get our take on his cooking. We were also from California, and we're Vietnamese. For those unfamiliar, SoCal houses the US' biggest Vietnamese population and the best food. We were the best testing measure. He was so excited to share where he got the ingredients for his food and how he made it. So onto the food! The Com Thịt Nướng (Broken Rice & Grilled Pork) was delicious. Really good. The pork was perfectly marinated and tender. If you add the Sautéed orange/onionish sauce to the rice, it becomes so flavorful and a perfect addition to the meat. Definitely recommend this dish. It was our favorite. Honestly, better than some Cali places. I'm super picky with my pho. I've only found one Californian pho place that has pho I would actually eat and enjoy. And that was in CA with the best Viet restaurants. I know good pho. This being said, this wasn't my favorite place for pho BUT my parents (who are literally from Vietnam) found the pho here decent. They said this is the best non-Californian pho they've tasted (& they've tried pho is so many places from NYC to Arizona to NC to HI and FL). While I personally didn't love it, this pho rivals the basic pho restaurant in CA. Prices are awesome! Okay let me give more context. The prices are a little more than CA prices (which has been true about a lot of our experience in Bozeman and has really surprised us). However, knowing the effort it takes for them to get these ingredients, these prices are reasonable. This was also our CHEAPEST MEAL we've had in MT all week!!! (& we got food to-go!!)
