We had the best time here last night. My daughter and I were celebrating our birthdays a bit early this year while we are together and some Thai food was what we were both craving. Mateo was our server and he was so nice! I thought the prices here were a bit high but the serving sizes and also that the salad bar is included really sold me. The Thai tea was rich in flavor, tom Kai soup was amazing and we loved the mushrooms they use. We ordered our soup at a 1 spicy level and it goes all the way to 5!! I probably could've handled a 2 but I can't imagine what 5 is. LOL The mango sticky rice was also yummy. We shared the soup and mango and there is still leftovers of the soup. The mango sticky rice didn't stand a chance. THANKS Thai Basil. I'll definitely be back. Mixed Experience with the Chicken Strips I stopped by Thai Basil recently for a quick dine-in lunch and had a pretty unusual experience with one of their appetizers. I ordered the chicken strips off the appetizer menu. When they arrived, I was surprised to see they were deep-fried with the skin still on -- and quite a few feather follicles were visibly left on the skin. It was definitely a bit jarring and made the dish feel less polished than expected. The flavor was okay (the seasoning and frying gave it a decent crunch), but the presentation and preparation took away from the enjoyment. On the positive side, Thai Basil offers a free salad bar for dine-in customers, which is a nice touch. It's a good way to start the meal or round it out with fresh veggies, and it added some value to the visit. Overall, the service was friendly and the salad bar was a highlight, but the chicken strips were a miss due to the quality control issues with the skin and feathers. I'd probably try other items on the menu next time (their Thai classics looked popular with other tables) rather than repeat the appetizer. read more

I ate myself into a food coma here because the food was so delicious that I literally couldn't stop eating! This is the best Thai food in Bozeman and I will definitely be back! My friends and I came for dinner and we were absolutely starving. We were so happy to find that they had a complementary salad bar that was a healthy and delicious appetizer. We decided to check out Thai Basil for lunch after a hectic day. We were ravenous and luckily the food was served very fast. The ambience was simple but clean. They have a salad and fruit bar that they encourage you to check out before eating your meal. While we waited for our food, we tried the different fruits and veggies they had on display. We ordered the deep fried spring rolls (mini but yummy), Panang curry (insanely delicious and was my second favorite of the night), stir fry with tofu (was shocking delicious), spicy basil fried rice (I haven't had rice better than this and this was the main highlight of the meal for me), and drunken noodles (the less spicy ones were too bland, go up your usual spice level) and some Thai tea. My sister and I came here for a quick dinner between coming back from Yellowstone and hitting the airport. I'll start with the service; our server, Jacob, was wonderful! He was helpful in answering our questions about dietary restrictions and was also downright hilarious. For food, we opted for the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Pad See Ew w/ tofu. While both were good, they didn't taste very authentic, which is sort of what I expected would happen with Thai food in Montana, so I wasn't too surprised. It was interesting to try their take on Thai food (for example, the pad see ew noodles were very thin like pad thai noodles, which I had never seen before!). The portions were huge, and we barely made a dent in either dish. Plus, they have a free salad bar, which was a huge plus since my body was desperately in need of vegetables. By the time we sat down with our salad, the food was done too so service is really fast! I wouldn't come here expecting authentic ethnic cuisine, but it's good for what it is! read more

I've had Thai food at many locations in my life, to include Thailand. I will say that this restaurant spice levels are pretty good. I typically order the spiciest level and am usually disappointed with the lack of spice, but at this place, a 5 was actually a 5 (for me). The portions are also quite large. There was no way I could finish my Pad Thai. However, I'm not a fan of the Pad Thai here. It really wasn't that flavorful. We ordered DoorDash from Thai Basil last night and got the red curry and the spicy basil noodles. The red curry was good, but the spicy basil noodles were really disappointing. There were almost no vegetables at all, just a large wad of rice noodles for $25. We counted maybe three thin carrot slivers, two small pieces of red pepper, and one mushroom in the entire dish. Our large family came in for a casual sit down lunch. The menu is extensive, providing a wide array of options and everyone was able to find something to their liking. Despite not all authentic, everyone's food was pleasant. Another plus was the salad bar which was complimentary. The sweet potato fries and fried bananas were some delicious surprises beyond normal salad item. The service was friendly and efficient. When we noticed a stain on one of our water glasses, the server promptly replaced it. Additionally, the staff was very accommodating of our gluten-free and dairy-free dietary needs. Despite the restaurant filling up quickly during the weekend lunch rush, our food was served quickly and the portions were enormous--we all had leftovers for another meal! I'm not well schooled in Thai cuisine, but have had many knockout meals at big city places fancy and humble. This one just falls flat. The rolls and calamari appetizer were quite good, if small. A chicken curry at the table was good enough, but my spicy basil chicken was a disappointment: a minuscule serving of protein, maybe two basil leaves, all lost amid chunks of insipid bell peppers and a sauce that was, well, meh. This place closes at 9 p.m. My wife and I got there shortly after 8:00 p.m. We sat down and waited 15 minutes for the high school waitress to take our order. We were advised that the salad bar would be closing at 8:30 p.m. At 8:15 p.m., one of the employees started clearing the salad bar. We still hadn't got our order placed. We asked one of the employees if we could go through the salad bar since we had not been able to place our order. When our waitress finally came back to us to take our order, we were advised that we could not go through the salad bar. We left without ordering. The problem with this place is they hire high school kids to get employees that will work for cheap. I would strongly recommend you try one of the several other Asian restaurant locations. We were very surprised by the attention in authentic Thai flavors. They ship a lot of their ingredients for Thailand. Our fav was the pork udon broth. It was rich and has sweetness to it. Loved that they were generous with the cilantro. It surprisingly had dumplings also. The Thai tea was not very strong but very delicious. Spicy BBQ had a balanced ratio of veggies and meet. The beef was a little tough to chew but sooo good. The rice was not as fluffy and was a bit on the drier side. But it paired with the Spicy Bbq sauce perfectly. We ordered the Spicy Bbq with 4/5 spice level and we agreed it tasted around a medium heat Emily served us really well and was very attentive. They didn't readily offer chopsticks but they were quick to bring us any utensil we needed. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend this place. read more

Tried to order stir fry with noodles instead of rice which is what I have ordered every time I have been there in the last 3 years. He said he could not substitute that I could order a side of noodles instead. This place is actually pretty good and authentic and def worth my review. Initially we visited from L.A and always hesitant with the asian food in other states doesn't not match up with ours (arrogant as always lol), but after trying this place I was pretty impressed as I ordered the spicy basil chicken with onions and pepper, it was authentic, portion was good and they gave you a salad bar which is always a plus. So for this Montanian Thai good I would def five it a go and it was a nice atmosphere and they seated us right and great service! Absolutely terrible customer service. There are two Thai Basils, one in Big Sky, and one in Bozeman. After accidentally ordering from the Thai Basil in Bozeman, we called after 1 minute to inform them that we intended to order from the other Thai Basil in Big Sky. After working in customer service before, I know that it is possible to cancel an order from a customer. Not only was the waiter on the phone rude, but her manager was also completely unhelpful. They made the claim that 30 seconds after placing our Grubhub order, they had completed cooking and packing our meal over 4 dishes. That speed would put the McDonalds SLA to shame. There are also other reviews validating our experience with their poor customer service. I wholeheartedly recommend taking your business and money elsewhere. read more

Amazing place right in Big Sky. Our waiter was terrific and attentive. He described the menu superbly and their 0-5 spiciness scale was perfect for our family - each could have their dish as hot as they wished it. The pad see ew was awesome, tom kha mushroom super, and even the apps were great. Waiter gave us a free dessert just because they had made so much German chocolate cake they had leftovers. Ambience nice despite Thai also being a takeout place. We had a cozy table for 4. BYOB though we did hot tea (and cold water for the spice!) Note - I only ordered delivery. Delivery was easy with different carriers to choose from. I received it in about 25 mins from ordering too. I didn't receive any utensils so possibly make sure to request those. I know come Cities have laws on reducing waste so maybe that's Bozeman? I ordered pad see ew with tofu. The noodle dishes have a lot of customization options. You can change noodle type too! Meat options are limited without an up-charge and the main dishes are already pretty expensive for dinner. I chose a spicy level two and I thought it could be a bit spicier. Flavor was a little lacking as well. Ingredients seem good quality but maybe I got a dish that was made with less flavor today? Also, my meal had a little charring so some of it had that burnt taste. Not terrible but something I'm not used too at a Thai restaurant. Lots of tofu though! I wish there was a negative number I could give it. It was freezing in there! The greeter was wearing a heavy Carhart coat the entire time we were there. Ordered yellow curry with "crispy " pork belly slimy fat no crisp outer coating that may have become soft from being in the sauce, had a rancid taste. Sauce had good flavor. It wasn't hot , moderately warm. Potatoes couldn't be poked with a fork for than 1/8 in into them had to scoop the huge chunks of raw potatoes out. Waited 10 minutes to be waited on, waiter never returned to ask how it was. And when we got up to leave and get our check he then asked how it was and when we told him he said he was sorry but when she has 8 curries to make she gets confused. How about cooking the food?! They offer a nice little soup and salad buffet if you get the lunch specials. My pad Thai came out incredibly fast and piping hot. Perfect amount of heat, could have used more sprouts, egg, etc. Very busy and crowded at lunch, perhaps the fast service is a draw. An OK experience. Wow! We loved visiting this restaurant when we were last in Bozeman. They have a small salad bar with very fresh ingredients which isn't always available here in MT. Our meals were wonderful as well. I ordered the Massaman Curry and my husband, the Pad Thai. Both were flavorful and delicious. We're definitely coming back the next time we travel through the area so that we can try the Tom Kha soup which is one of our favorites and to see if they serve Larb, that excellent, spicy ground meat and lime salad. But maybe it's Vietnamese, not Thai?? Also, our waitress was professional, courteous and friendly. She was attentive and seemed happy to serve. Can't got wrong with the lunch special pad Thai for $13 that includes free salad bar. The pad Thai is as good as any other I've had, good portion size too. The service is always impeccable.
