Really great Thai food at a reasonable price. Shrimp pad thai that is made well, the best in socal. It had everything you would want + more. 5 pcs of medium sized shrimp. The add-ons were peanuts, carrots, bean sprouts. They use shallots or red onions in lieu of onions to create more flavor. The noodles are done well and the sauce is just perfect (some places it is too sweet or soupy). This was perfect! LOVED IT!!! Ordered the spicy basil chicken. It had a ton of wonderful veggies. I just moved nearby recently and wanted to get take out and try their pineapple fried rice. I ordered thru their website and received confirmation after awhile and it was quick and ready to be picked up when they said it was! Just stopped here as it is very close to my house and I was told it was decent. Asked the lady what she recommended and she said the curry. So I ordered the yellow chicken curry and a large thai iced tea and she said it would be 10 minutes. As I'm waiting, they were microwaving shrimp and other things that really just demoted the quality of the food I was about to consume. 25 minutes later, she handed me my thai iced tea, 85% full, and for $4.50, I'd expect that shit to be full. However no worries, if the food is good no big deal. Handed me the food and a small rice. Took it home and tried it and it was mediocre at best. Bland and tasted just honestly straight out of a can.... I will be back to try their BBQ as that is in their name and I should of stuck with that I think, or hope... curry, 1.5 stars, thai iced tea, 3.5 stars... Thai food is one of my favorite foods so whenever I find out there's a place I haven't tried, I'm eager to do so. I saw this place while driving and decided to give it a try. I ordered the Pad See-Ew with beef and it arrived with in 10 minutes of waiting. The plate looked since I was starving. First bite thoughts: the pad see-ew tasted great, not too greasy or under greased, the vegetables were well done also there was enough seasoning to make it taste bomb, but not too much where you can't even taste the vegetable anymore. The beef could be improved however. Don't get me wrong it still tastes great but if the beef was less dry and chewy I think that would've been perfect. Portion size, it satisfied me but I could have ate a bit more; I think if the portion was a bit bigger that would have hit the spot . I don't know maybe it's a good portion for some people but I normally have a big appetite. I really liked how the waitress would come by our table very frequently to check up on us and ask f we need anything like water, sides etc... it's nice not having to call the waitress often. She was cute - she even told me that I wouldn't be able to handle the spiciness level that they served. The wait for our order made me wonder if my fellow coworkers had sent out a search party. As we sat, business did pick up however, we did place our order before the bulk of the crowd arrived. At least the dishes were served fresh and hot. You probably guessed it but the spiciness level didn't even make my lips tingle. The flavor was decent however, I was really craving a level that would make paint peel itself off. My friends dish (wish I had taken a picture) looked okay however, just dry. He opted for a chicken dish and it looked like it was overcooked. Anyway - the gripe I had about this location was the temperature. It was a little chilly out as the marine layer pretty much hovered all day long - and every time the door opened a blast of cool air made me wish I was wearing thermals - and there didn't seem to be any heating system in the place. This was my first time eating from here, but I really wanted some Thai food, and Thai Charcoal Pit closed. After searching high and low, giving up, and coming back, I found Thai Barbecue. I ordered the S. Combo, the teriyaki salmon, yellow curry with tofu, and pad thai with tofu. The chicken in the S. Combo fell off the bone. My mom and sister loved the chicken and ribs. The salmon was so good, and you taste the smokey flavor from it being grilled. The yellow curry had the perfect amount of sweetness with the spicy. The shrimp fried rice was really good. The sauces they provided were all really good, and complemented their dishes perfectly. The pad thai was the perfect spicy. I absolutely love my pad thai to be spicy, and it was perfect. The restaurant is on a business corner off of a busy street with lots of parking during the day. So it's very convenient and they cook when your order. It's fast. I remember going here over a decade ago, glad to see that this gem is still around. They remodeled the inside so there's a nice clean modern look, lots of booths and tables with leather accents. What's sets this apart is that there is so much fresh food that's served by Thai people. Other places are new fads that are overpriced with too much oils and grease, not much flavor, mixed with other Asian cuisine and just kinda fads and flashy. This place is a mom and pop no thrills place and affordable with lunch specials. The beef is excellent. There is a good array of beverages lemonade raspberry tea sodas, and Thai iced tea. No boba drinks, but lots nearby. I like this because temptation is at bay, a mere block or two if you crave for dessert. But one block or two is enough to keep me from drinking boba.
