I had Thai 55 today for lunch via the Fooda set-up in my office building downtown and I am just going to say I paid for the convenience of not having to leave my building for lunch and that's it. I purchased the Pad Thai and I have had better. Not sure if maybe because this is a pop up set up and not served from a full kitchen that you miss something, but what I am sure of is if I had received this while dining in the restaurant, I would have sent it back. The noodles were gummy and the overall flavor of the dish was just not there and what I expect from Thai food. I doubt I will travel to Hyde Park to give them another shot when I will pass possibly 50 other Thai places with much better food. read more

It took me 5 sittings to get though my Pad Thai and Crab Rangoons, and I only finished because I had no other food in the house. This food tasted rancid. The cream cheese in the rangoons was sour, and I believe expired. The pad thai tasted as if a bucket of mysterious chemicals had spilt into. Do your tongue (and your life!) a favor and never eat here. Ever. read more

We used to come here quite a bit over a decade ago... we were in the neighborhood and decided to have dinner which turned out to be a disappointment. The soup was lukewarm , the chili chicken was mild at its best ... the appetizers were good and we were very hungry so ordered 2 of each . I ordered the pineapple curry with tofu and it was really good! A little spicy, and came with rice. The tofu cubes were all on the top and the pineapples were all at the bottom and I split it into two meals, so that was surprising hahah. The egg rolls came with 6 pieces and sweet and sour sauce. Everything was really good. I ordered ahead and it was lukewarm upon arrival, but that's OK. They showed up maybe 10-15 minutes earlier than delivery time. The prices are super worth it--will definitely order from here again. read more

The shrimp tempura was awesome! However it was down hill after. My pineapple fried rice came out tasting spicy, as if someone had dumped pepper on it by accident. When explaining to waiter, he argued with me back and forth. At this point I was annoyed, because I love love love Thai. I am highly disappointed. The waiter needed a tip in etiquette, either take the meal and offer me something else or get me the chef. We never go ba k and forth with a customer. read more

Rude service the last time I was here, but my mom really wanted Thai food, so we decided to come here. After passing about 15 other Thai restaurants to get here, we arrived about 40 minutes before they closed. As we passed the threshold, the woman who was all the way in the back looked up at the clock instead of greeting us. She didn't say hello or anything. Another woman came out and said "We close in 30 minutes"...um...she didn't know if we wanted take out or what. They both had super smug looks on their faces and you would have thought they were busy, but there was only one table that was occupied. I was over them from before. As we left, the one woman said " Have a good night!". Wow. Customer service. Won't be going back ever. read more

I gave 3 stars.. the food wasn't bad, just didn't quite meet my expectation. I had potstickers, pad se ew with beef and an egg roll.. the potstickers were extremely small they could've literally been bite size... the pad se ew was not that great because i felt like I could taste the skillet the meat was cooked in or just didn't quite taste right..the beef wasn't tender, I just don't think they had a good night when I ordered. Nonetheless the potstickers were delicious... just not enough when your hungry and didn't eat the other items read more

Its no surprise, I like the Thai food. I like Thai food so much that I am considering learning how to cook it myself. Then a realization came to me that I don't even have time to cook anymore. Life just happens. When life gets in the way of you packing a lunch for work, you go out to eat. What can I say about Thai 55? Well, they are mediocre. The food is alright but nothing to look forward to. The restaurant is a tiny one with about 3 booths and 5-6 tables. The weird thing about this restaurant is that it is on the same street as 2 other Thai restaurants not even a full block away from each other. Thai food city! At any rate, Pad Thai, Bangkok shrimp, tom kha soup, and the appetizer plate are all reccommended by me. Service is fast but leaves something to be desired. Maybe they can be more interactive with the customer. I dont bite, hard. All in all, an alright place. read more

This restaurant was once a gem. The food was flavorful and the staff were friendly. Now the food is hit or miss, depending on whose cooking that day. There is no taste consistency anymore. Recently, I ordered the Pad Si Ew and there was no Thai taste at all. It was as if they strained the noodles and forgot to mix in the flavors. Thai 55 comes to my workplace a few times a year with fresh, hot lunchtime servings of popular dishes such as pad thai (with your optional choice of protein), Bangkok chicken which is huge strips of chicken!, basil chicken, Thai pepper steak, yellow curry chicken, fried rice, cashew chicken, cucumber salad, and our choice of white or brown rice, and egg rolls, veggie egg rolls and crab rangoon on the side or to make a combo, for a healthy, delicious lunch under $10! The choices are sweet, spicy, tangy; with three different sauces (love them all!). Definitely something for everyone. I've never been to the restaurant in Hyde Park, but I've liked everything I've tried from here and have it whenever they come to us! read more

Loved all the appetizers, the crab rangoon is pretty good when it's still hot, though very little fillings, but the fillings are amazing in flavour, and the shell is crispy and satisfying(though oily). the potsticker and the spring rolls are good too, especially when hot. the pad thai was so so, a bit too much sauce, and the chicken is too dry. read more

Horrible Pad Thai. It tasted awful. And then after I five bites in I threw away the rest. I could not get a refund even though I got food poisoning. LIKE HEADACHES AND I VOMITED. It was so flavorless and I just couldn't eat it anymore. A waste of my $11. Just don't dine here at all. Pot stickers and Thai tea was okay. But still not the best food. Please don't dine here. I visited this restaurant during a lunch break in the area. I placed my order at the counter and when I received my food packaged to go I thought it was kind of odd (and wasteful) but sat down to eat it. When I sat down I had clearly erred in some way because the owner got into a huff. Mind you a few minutes ago she was smiling at me as I interacted with her small daughter as I ordered. Long story short: the owner had a nasty attitude because I dared to dine in and eat my food. There were two other customers dining in so I didn't see the big deal. If you don't want people to dine in either tell them and/or consider it you really need to own and operate a sit down restaurant. The food was mediocre on top of the nasty attitude. Not the best Thai I've ever had, but it's consistent. I've never dined at the restaurant; only ordered delivery. The delivery drivers are fast, courteous and super nice. The phad Thai is kind of bland, even asking for 5 star spice...but we can add our own from the collection we have at home, no big deal. This is definitely the go to place for delivery in our house. read more

I love Thai food but I was pretty disappointed with the food at Thai 55. I ordered the Pad Wusen and the noodles were over cooked. The dish was not tasty at all. It was my 1st time trying this restaurant. I'm willing to try it again but I think the cook should take better care in the preparation of the food. The pricing is decent. I know the restaurants are struggling but come on guys make it worthwhile gotta do better!!! read more

This used to be my go to Thai place. I don't know what has happened but the food is so bad now. I ordered garlic chicken and veggie tempura. The vegetable tempura was mostly burnt to a crisp with no flavor. The garlic chicken tasted like it was drowning in soy sauce. I threw the majority of it in the trash where it belonged. I've tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt but I will not be back. read more

In short, not good. But Yelp asks me to continue writing. I ordered the Tom yum chicken. It came with awful amount of chicken, but not fresh. Tried other dishes my friends ordered, one is very basic, nothing wrong with it but I'd not call it Thai food. Trader Joe's frozen meal does better. Drunken noodles was a mess. Soulless, dampy, at most mediocre. read more

Yesterday I ordered food from Thai 55. I ordered sweet and sour chicken. This dish comes with a side of white rice. When I got home and took out the food, something smelled foul. I ignored it and served myself the food. When I ate the sweet and sour chicken dish, it tasted very off, like spoiled food. Then I smelled it and it smelled like the foul smell. The rice was spoiled. I called the restaurant and I told the lady that the rice did not smell right. She replied, "They probably got it from the bottom of the pot". The rice was not fresh. A delivery person dropped off a replacement sweet and sour chicken dish. read more

This little Thai restaurant is a popular spot in Hyde Park. Today is the first time I have had a chance to try out a meal here. I ate Pad See-Ew, a dish consisting of the wide rice noodles, broccoli, chicken breast and eggs, all stir-fried and mixed together in a black soy sauce. It was served to the table piping hot and so fresh that you would've sworn a farm was out back. The food was delicious, fresh and very reasonably priced. The service was attentive, and exemplary to say the least. This is the sort of place you visit so you can try as much as you can on their menu because it is quite an extensive choice. I look forward to another visit to Thai 55! read more

This was the worst food I have maybe ever had in my life. The pad Thai was chewy, the crab Rangoon was small and strange, and the #1 curry smelled more like #2, if you know what I mean. Don't bother with this place when there are two other delicious Thai restaurants right here. Snail and Siam Thai are both amazing. read more

Decided to try this place for the first time. Food was just ok but customer service was horrible! Only 4 people in the restaurant and we had to wait over 10 minutes for the initial greeting. My friend had shrimp fried rice which was spicy. The waiter argued with her that it wasn't spicy instead of just asking if she wanted something different. I will never come back!! read more

We ordered takeout. It was ready on time as promised. We ordered 2 basic meals, Pad Thai and Curry. The Pad Thai was plain without scallions or peanuts, must have been an oversight. Flavor was ok, about what I would expect from Noodles &. The Curry was tofu and potatoes, also very plain. read more

Horrible. Ordered Pad Thai and because I have food allergies, that they always manage beautifully, and I feel safe ordering from them. Well, last nights dinner had weird pink noodles, a shit ton of something sweet in it, some chicken, about a tablespoon of cabbage carrot mix and that's it! No peanuts, no scallions. I guess to them food allergies meant all foods! Additionally, the chicken potstickers were from a bag and microwaved.. or boiled and left sitting. And finally the Iced Thai Tea tasted similar to the pad Thai and was the same color‍. Never eating there again and not recommend it either. What an insult to Thailand read more

Maybe they overcooked it, i dont know. They also wouldn't put any of the juice or boil in a separate container for dipping the crab meat. Most establishments charge you for sauce on the side which I was willing to pay for but the lady behind the counter refused. It was a very disappointing experience, and honestly they probably got these snow crab from a Costco or wherever they sell them in stores. If people are paying money for snow crab please ensure the snow crab has meat in them.

Overall I was having a good experience. The food was OK. The menu was limited. Oh btw, the special that day was a $70 wag goo burger. That interaction between me and the server reminded me of a car salesman trying to sale me undercoating for the car i just purchased. REALLY I can't make it up. The experience dropped to a single star as our dining experience was nearing an end. The manager of the front of the house. Made a conscious effort to make it clear that the table we were dining was needed by waiting customers. I've never ever experienced this before in any restaurant in the Loop. I can't and will not recommend dining here. This is why I'm giving 1 star. I my opinion The Dearborn maybe they need to be in a different location. Maybe located far west of the Loop. I would suggest instead of Dearborn maybe Halsted St. and probably change their name to The Halsted. Im not going back. OH btw good luck in your new location.

They played a birthday song over the speakers and let us bring a cake to the restaurant. Service wise, would give this place a 10/10. The food was really unique and special, you don't see a lot of these dishes at Chinese restaurants. The menu had many many different options to choose from. We shared the twin lobster sticky rice (came with 2 lobsters for $88), the salted yolk pumpkin, and the pork belly chicken soup. The soup was good but the white pepper taste was a bit too strong. The other dishes were on the heavier, oily side but they were really delicious. There were generous portions of lobster. They served a really nice, fragrant jasmine tea with dinner which they kept refilled and pipping hot. Bathroom was clean and the restaurant has a beautiful design inside that's nice for parties of 4 or larger groups for family style dining. There's plenty of paid street parking options, around $5 for 2 hours. I would recommend giving it a try!

It did start to pick up around 8 PM, but by then we were wrapping up. If you've ever been here on a weekend, you already know...it gets crowded fast. So weekday evenings are definitely the move if you want a more relaxed experience. One thing I did notice is that the menu feels more condensed compared to pre-COVID days. The quality is still there, but some of the little details have changed. For example, the fried alligator now comes with a hot honey sauce instead of the original sauce...and I'm not sure why that changed. I get that restaurants have had to adjust over time, but I do wish they'd bring some of those original touches back. Also, don't be surprised if a few of your old favorites are gone or slightly different. Customer service has always been consistent for me...friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The atmosphere is more on the intimate side, nothing overly flashy, just a comfortable place to enjoy a good meal. Parking is pretty reasonable and the lot is spacious, but when it's busy, you'll definitely feel it. There were three of us, and we ordered the fondue, fried alligator, fried shrimp, three-piece stuffed crab, and blackened salmon with red beans and rice, plus a drink. After tax and tip, the bill came out to around $150-$160, which felt fair for what we ordered. Overall, this is still one of my go-to spots and I'll definitely be back. I just hope they consider bringing back some of the original menu items...or at least that original alligator sauce!

Me, my sister and my mom initially went to pappadeux from the Southside of Chicago for my birthday…read moreon Saturday. They initially quoted us a 4.5 hour wait time. We promptly left only to find out an hour later when we were already home that our table was ready. We loved the restaurant, so we returned on Sunday to celebrate there. My mom complained to the floor manager Dawaan Williams about what had happened with the incorrect 4.5 hr projected wait time and he gave us an "appetizer on the house" and a $100 gift card for the inconvience only AFTER he argued back and forth. When our waiter Teerika Felix came in, she IMMEDIATELY had an attitude and was in a mood. She was short, snappy, and overall unkind to be working in a service job. We ordered our appetizer and all three of us only got salads. Because our wait for the salad was so long 30-45min, the waiter (Teerika Felix ) said she would comp it because of how excessively long that was. Although the service was poor and has always been at THIS location, we still left a $10 tip being that they had given all of this stuff for free ("appetizer on the house", comped salad, and the gift card). We left, and as we were leaving we saw the waiter (Teerika Felix) and the manager (Dawaan Williams) chasing after us and taking down the license plate of our car. Immediately confused, my mom got out and went inside to address this. To find out, the manager (Dawaan Williams) completely forgot he comped the appetizer and accused us of stealing it before we reminded him of what he literally told us at the start of our dining experience. We got the general manager and explained to him how humiliating it is to accuse LOYAL customer of abhorrent behavior because of lack of communication and memory. Also the lack of common sense is astounding. Why would we run out on the bill when you gave us a $100 gift card?? Teerika and Dawaan aren't that bright which is why they are working this lowly, menial job in their 30s/40s lol We gave back our gift card and got back our tip. Will NEVER go to this restaurant again.
