They built me a great woodshop and a really nice cedar privacy fence with steel posts. This is the kind of contractor you always hope you will get. Why: because they all know what they're doing, they care about doing it right, they DO do it right, they work hard--arrive early stay late, clean up the work site before they leave, work fast, and when they leave you know that you got excellent value for every dollar spent. Are they the cheapest? I don't know; probably not. They are much cheaper than a bigger, slicker outfit very well rated on Yelp that I talked to, that had a lot of planning software and other frills that will appeal to some homeowners but to me were extraneous. They also wanted to build me a structure that was much more complex than I needed. Here's the key: the owner/boss, Alex, has integrity. He is extremely knowledgeable about construction materials and methods and how they apply to the best approach and solutions to your project. If you don't know anything at all about construction I can assure you he will not take advantage of that to separate you from as many dollars as possible. He will get a sense of what you want and help you flesh out the idea with ideas and suggestions you might not have thought about. In each case he'll tell you the pros and cons including relative costs. I know something about construction but not that much and he was able to see where I was going with the shop idea and flesh it out with excellent suggestions. Every step of the way he is considering your needs and priorities, NOT lining his pockets. I didn't have drawings or blueprints, just general dimensions. All the way through, he and his crew had a tendency to over-engineer (this is what my dad always did and I do it as well) versus take the cheap/fast/easy route to any element of the job. Did it cost a little more? Yeah, so what? If you want to squeeze every nickel, I'm sure he can do that for you but for me it's about having a quality job done but not breaking the bank. Also, maybe he can provide super detailed estimates with cost of every board and nail and man-hour, which is what some people want and need. I didn't need that. We came up with a price I knew was reasonable based on the super-detailed quote I got from the slick outfit with all the software (remember the start of this review?). The accuracy of his back-of-the-envelope figure told me he knew his projected labor costs and the scope of the job and materials based on experience. We exceeded the original figure; why? Because I added on some stuff--that's fair. Anyway, I have a great shop that was built like a tank in a VERY reasonable period of time. Alex stayed in touch frequently and was always extremely responsible and accessible. Very polite. No-nonsense but friendly. The guy is an engineer. His crew was great. Nothing but praise for this outfit. Don't go micromanaging, changing your mind every five minutes, or thinking they're going to rip you off. No need for that. Like I said, Alex has integrity and he and his crew look down on shoddy workmanship. read more

I found Alex on FB Marketplace. During COVID, I was a bit desperate to find someone to fix my fence quickly, so my dogs don't figure out they can escape the back yard. He responded quickly, gave a fair estimate over text/chat and we scheduled for the next day. My microwave stopped heating and needed to be replaced. The problem it was a built in unit, older model no longer available. The replacement model was slightly different size and would not fit existing built in frame. Two others tried unsuccessfully install the replacement, but failed. I found Alex when searching for someone to install gutters. He was very prompt to respond and came out to provide an estimate within a few days. After speaking with him I knew he was quite knowledgeable and was someone who took pride in his work. After getting a few comparable bids I decided to go with Alex -- so glad I did! The day before install he called me to inform that his gutter supplier had an overstock on slightly larger gutters in the color I needed. He was able to pass on the savings on these larger gutters and only charge me a nominal extra fee. So glad we went with the larger ones as the finished product is beautiful. I had three big boxes of this furniture from Office Depot and was wondering what to do and where to start assembling this product. I then looked for a handyman in Pflugerville and here came Alex who was first to respond back with the shortest attendance. He and his wife were super quick to assemble this product for me and did this in less than 4hrs time. It was too much of a pain to assemble this for first timers. They charged $350 (Though a bit on the higher side - the product costed only 450$s for me :D :D ) for the 4hrs they worked at my place but for the price they had been thorough professionals. I will be suing Alex and will, possibly, get the police involved, so I'll cut to the chase, might update this later. Alex did some minor job for us by sending his employee or agent - "Anthony" to do it, all went well, no issues. Then we contacted Alex again to provide us with a quote to build us a pergola. Alex gave us a quote and sent the same "Anthony", who did the first job, to take measurements and discuss the details in person. We agreed to build pergola and paid "Anthony" $4,250 to buy materials. After weeks of promises from "Anthony" to deliver the materials and, later, refund us the money, we have no materials, no receipts and no refund. Alex has sent us someone, who appears to be a known fraudster, who goes by "Anthony" and also by "Brian" interchangeably. Anthony/Brian Anderson is his name, apparently. He has several companies under his name and we found horrific reviews describing similar situation: taking the money and not finishing the job and not refunding the money. Service providers send their employees/agents to do jobs all the time and often these employees/agents collect payments. Not at any point we've agreed with Alex that we'd pay Alex directly, neither Alex has told us that "Anthony" would assume full responsibility for the contract or that Alex was just a mediator or acted as a referral. It was in Alex's interests to make their relationship abundantly clear and he didn't. I don't know if Alex and "Anthony" are defrauding people together or "Anthony" is acting solo, but ultimately it is irrelevant to me. I contacted Alex to work on a project. And now I have lost $4,250. P.S. "Alex" isn't his real name either. I'M HIGHLY DISSAPOINTED!! That I didn't find Alex earlier and had to have that bad experience with other contractors who was taking deposits and I never saw them anymore. Yes I did that mistakes few times... When Alex arrived to inspect our roof leak and after we agreed to start the repair as he determined the issue I asked him if he takes any deposits and he started to laugh.. I was a bit shocked and he said that he never takes any deposit from customers if the job is less than $50k and requires a huge amount of materials to be purchased but other than that if contractor doesn't have even $500 to start the job it means that something wrong with such company. Nowadays, it is very difficult finding people who are impeccable to their word. I had been waiting 3 months to have some "water damaged" siding- repaired after having brand new gutters installed with minor roof repairs. I also had a crack on my ceiling in my living room. Finally, I wanted to build a bigger garden. Alex, showed up instead of his estimator because his employee had family problems. He told me that the reason he came was because he is a man of his word. I was impressed because Alex is very young and mature for his age. This is rare today in America. A lot of people nowadays don't respect your time and even your home. I have been stood up at least 10 times in the last 6 months by lawn guys all the way to contractors... Alex ended up doing all the jobs for a great price and it was all done excellent. The initial communication to lock him down for timing and to do the work was overly painful - but I needed to get some projects done......one such project was to install a 20 foot foyer light - we were very clear about it when requesting the work and of course he shows up and then says he can't do it. He did install the other light and cabinet we wanted done and no issues with that.....I could and should have gone with a larger more reputable company but thought a small independent would be good, but the hassles to lock it down and not get everything done just isn't worth the struggle Based on the owner's comment - just want to be clear - the work he did do was fine and no issues - my only concern was about the ability to communicate and schedule as I needed a specific window of time - and tried to lock it down starting 4 weeks in advance - and was never able to lock down the exact time till one day before - that may work for him - just wasn't workable for me or customer focused. The ceiling foyer light was again was the driver for the work from the very start - at not time in advance was anything discussed about scaffolding, 200 lb units etc until he showed up - so again I scheduled a time to get one very specific thing done that I couldn't get done - thankfully another firm was able to do with a regular ladder to accommodate installing it that did not require any heavy machinery or scaffolding. So again, these are the points I had issue with - but the work itself on the other projects were all good so hence the 3 star read more

In life, it's rare when someone or something meets your expectations, never mind exceeds them. In construction, it's nearly unheard of. Alex and THA Construction are notable exceptions to both. I was researching flooring options for my new house when I learned of THA through a Facebook ad of all things; I reached out and Alex responded instantly. I was already impressed, as the first flooring company I had contacted lost my info after coming out to measure and literally never even called me back. That turned out to be the world's greatest blessing in disguise. Alex cheerfully drove two round-trip hours to bring us floor samples several times and responded to texts and calls almost instantly. When he said he could get started right away, we worried it was too good to be true; the usual BS contractor sweet talk to get the job. To our surprise and delight, his crew was on site within a day, working nights and weekends to finish the job in the time window we had. We wound up using Alex for everything we needed, including floors, paint, and kitchen counters (hopefully fencing next).
