I wanted to hire UB Kitchens as they seemed legit. They met with me about my kitchen gut/remodel job and gave me a quote of $25k. I really liked their customer service and the high quality of their cabinets. Unfortunately, as my house was getting close to completion, I flew in to meet in person to work on the kitchen project and they quoted me $66k now. I understand prices are increasing during the pandemic but not nearly triple. It looks like on top of the price increases, they may have counted the wrong number of cabinets needed for the project. I tried to work with them cause I wanted it to work out but ultimately, I would have had to make too many sacrifices to fit the budget such as not doing some upper cabinets and doing open shelving instead. In making these edits, they could get it down to $45k, still double the original quote and with too many sacrifices. If I calculate cabinets, counters, GC work, etc, the kitchen would be well over $100k. For that price, you should just go with a fully custom kitchen company. If I wasn't building a new house, building out a big pool and deck and all these other incredibly expensive projects, I would have liked to go with UB, but their pricing was more than I think I'd worth for semi custom read more

The customer service at UB Kitchens started out well - very responsive, came out to measure, gave ideas without being overbearing, helped us get the handles we wanted, but in the end, I wouldn't recommend them. In terms of pricing, TreeHouse quoted a similar layout and cabinets for a little less (both $12K for a 100 sqft kitchen!). We went with UB Kitchens because they work around other contractors and seemed more customer-friendly. The Urban Effects line of cabinets are ok - the dark grey scratches easily. There is no way to change the levels of the shelves without chipping the laminate. Do not get a LeMans corner shelf!! We have a small kitchen and there is so much wasted space around the shelves and vertically (see photo). The wrong cabinet was sent and they couldn't remove the divider that would allow anything taller than 7 inches to be stored on the top shelf. If you're on a tight timeline, be aware that initial installation is at least 6-7 weeks out and after the installation, it took another six weeks to complete the punch list. The replacements/changes ended up more scratched/flawed than before so I wouldn't recommend making changes unless they're really bad and you have weeks to wait for a complete kitchen. We used a general contractor from their recommended list, a specific one named by our designer. The GC turned out to be a nightmare and quit partway through our project (PM if you'd like more details). When I contacted UB Kitchens to ask them to remove the contractor from their recommended list so that others wouldn't have to experience what I did, there was no response. That ending along with the mediocre cabinets left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

He noticed my distress & stepped in to help communicate with the flooring installation crew. How sweet!! He definitely made my day & help calm my nerves. My wife and I went to UB Kitchens after reading the glowing yelp reviews. The name makes them sound kind of cheapy, so we were a little reluctant to follow up. Yes, we wanted to save money, but no we didn't want crappy cheap cabinets. Going to their showroom really eased our fears. The showroom is very well organized with extremely professional displays that give you a great idea of a some finished kitchens and there are multiple lines to choose from for different budget points. To me their show room is way more realistic than the stock stuff you see at the big box stores. Talking with Adam, I realized quickly that they build the displays themselves to what appeals to Austin style, unlike the stuff you usually see on display at the big stores. We worked with Anne, and she was a real pro, taking several hours with us on the design. She worked hard to get us to a price point we felt good about. The tear-out and install went very smoothly and they went the extra mile to install everything really well. They even did some work that was unforseen at no additional charge. After the install I had a small issue with the size of some appliance openings and they were on the spot the next morning to fix the issue. Good to know they will be there right away if a problem comes up. UB also hooked us up with some affiliates to install the counter tops and a backsplash, so you can do the whole package through them or just the parts you want. We did cabinets and counter tops through them, but bought our own backsplash tile that we had installed by one of their recommended tile installers. The result is fantastic, the kitchen looks amazing. We feel like we got a really good deal and the service was outstanding, Adam and Anne were very responsive during the entire process, always soliciting our feedback. You won't get that from Lowes or Home Depot, I can tell you this from experience. I think Adam has a very good sense of the importance of customer satisfaction for a small business. He is super friendly and made a real effort to create a personal connection with us in a genuine, "non-cheesy" way. He also offered up a lot of support and options to help us save some money in various areas of our project. The longer I'm around, the higher I value genuinely good service. We've had our UB Kitchens cabinets for about 5 months now, and I can give no fewer than 5 stars to this company for every interaction we've had. They provided us assistance designing the space, listened to our questions and concerns about every tiny detail of the cabinetry, and made sure we were happy and informed every step of the way. We worked with Joe, who clearly has a lot of great design experience and I felt like his insight on how to best lay out the kitchen was both incredibly practical and gorgeous. In addition, when our granite installation was lagging (due to UB Kitchens offering to move up our install, which was awesome) - one of the guys from UB called our granite company to see if they could move up their date as well. We ended up getting a full and functional kitchen almost a month ahead of schedule thanks entirely to UB's team taking initiative and expecting the same of their partners. But the reason I finally remembered to write this review is because our kitchen faucet (which was new when we did the remodel!) had an internal leak that we didn't catch until the bottom of our beautiful cabinet had water damage. Devastated, I e-mailed Joe to ask him what we could do. At no cost, they sent a member of their team out to repair the damage - now it looks as good as new! We chose Under Budget Kitchens after a recommendation from a friend. Comparing their prices to the lowest end Home Depot/Lowes quote we were able to get a much nicer cabinet for a lower price. From the beginning it became very obvious that Under Budget Kitchens is entirely customer driven. They spent several hours with us during the design phase to handle our constantly changing kitchen visions and then came out and measured the kitchen before the order was placed, they even pointed out a few issues that were going to impact the cabinet install during the measurement which mitigated stressful surprises during the install phase. During the install phase they again helped us get through several major issues related to messy work done by the previous homeowner. This included having to cut down a cabinet due to a hidden pipe which Under Budget Kitchen was able to handle without shipping the cabinet back to the manufacture--they had the modified cabinet back to us in 24 hours. Their installers work fast and do great work, if you have a problem, they fix it. We also used their recommended granite installer who again came in far under the big box store price and the counter tops came out perfect. UB is simply the best. If I ever do another kitchen remodel, I will hire them again in a heart beat. They beat HomeDepot's pricing by a long shot and the service they provided was leagues better. Joe is a really talented designer and really good to work with. He responded to his e-mails even on the weekends! When we had a delay due to a contractor issue, Adam, the owner, even called us right away. He offered really great advice and I was really impressed that the owner got on the phone with us to help us troubleshoot so quickly. UB has been incredibly flexible. Their cabinet installers are also really pros- they are very hard working and even stayed until 8 PM on a Friday to make sure everything was perfect. UB also has a list of talented contractors to help with your remodel. We used David Maduzia for part of our remodel and he was great - I wish we had used a UB recommended contractor for the entire remodel. We talked to four different contractors about what we could do with the space, had Home Depot quote just re-fronting the cabinets, and got the Ikea quote as well. Terry from UB Kitchens came out and took measurements, getting the process done faster than any of the others. We went to their store front to pick out the wood and finish, which was quick and easy. They suggested the quartz counter top vendor who also handled the undermount sink. Terry also suggested a lazy suzan cabinet in a previously unutilized corner that added 30 cubic feet to our storage space. The whole thing was done in four weeks for 33% less than the Home Depot quote just to reface the old cabinets! Could not be happier with the quality of the work and the look of the cabinets. After 10 years of dealing with my small L-shaped kitchen with original 1951 cabinets, I decided that instead of waiting for "someday," I'd get the cabinets and the horrible countertop replaced. The quality of cabinets in the big-box stores didn't look too good, so I took my laptop with some photos of the kitchen to see Under Budget Kitchens. They have a wide variety of cabinet and countertop choices, good kitchen designers on staff, handle the installation, and can recommend contractors if you need one. Once you choose materials and they measure your kitchen, they'll work with you on the plan until it's perfect. It takes several weeks for the cabinets you order to be made, and after that it goes fast. In two weeks I went from 1951 kitchen to really nice cherry cabinets, granite countertop and new sink, new appliances -- I still can't believe it when I walk in, and it's a dream to cook there since I finally have enough space to work. The price was good, it's the greatest improvement to an old house I've ever made -- and I've done a lot of that over the years -- and as a bonus I even met a great contractor through Under Budget. It's been a great experience, and how often can you say that about renovation?? Every single person at UBK I dealt with was great. They are very quality-oriented and verify every detail many times to ensure that it all goes smoothly, and that you're getting what you want. We used UB kitchens to redo our laundry room. The staff there was super helpful and friendly and everything was done as quickly or even more quickly than they said. I also paid about 1/3 of the price at UB kitchens as other quotes that I got and the quality is really top notch! We did run into one little hiccup in that there were a few small scratches on one of the cabinet doors when delivered. Since we didn't open up the boxes to discover this until 2 days after they were delivered (I was still waiting for our contractor to finish the plumbing rework) I was worried I was going to have to fight to get them replaced. But Byron said "No problem. That's covered under the warranty!" and ordered the new doors for us straight away. The guy that came to put on the new doors was just as friendly and happy to help. What fantastic service! The only thing about the whole remodel experience that wasn't perfect was the company on the UB Kitchens suggested list for counter top vendors - DS Surfaces. (UB kitchens does say they don't endorse any of the companies and they're just places that other folks have used and had good experiences. This is why I'm keeping my review at 5 stars.) I was told that since the area that we needed counter tops was so small, they could probably get me a really good deal using a remnant piece of granite. The quote I got was 20% more than the next highest quote I got for the counter tops and the website that DS sent me to for selecting a sink had a huge variety but no prices on anything. I had no idea if I was selecting a $100 sink or a $1000 sink. I emailed back a few selections to DS and asked a few follow up questions in addition to a quote for everything. I indicated that I was going to do some shopping around before I made my final selection. I think he realized that I discovered he was trying to rip me off and I never go a reply back despite two follow up e-mails. Bottom line: UB Kitchens is fantastic for cabinets in every way possible but do your homework on the other suppliers. read more

Earlier this summer, I started talking with a designer at a big box store about remodeling my kitchen. It all started out great with promises of huge discounts on brand name cabinets due to a big promotion they were offering. Designs started shaping up and discounts started disappearing. They would never give me a written quote that included all of the discounts since they couldn't be applied until they executed the sale in their system. The design kept getting bigger, the price kept getting higher, and I started getting really nervous! I started doing some research (which I should have done first) and was horrified at all of the bad experiences I found strewn all over the internet. I finally got a written quote for the job including the tear-out of my old kitchen cabinets as well as delivery and installation of the new cabinets. I could not believe the number before my eyes!!! The fees they were charging to deliver and install cabinets were astronomical! I panicked and turned to Yelp! Thanks to all before me who have taken the time to share your experiences with UBK. You saved my kitchen!!! They were absolutely wonderful from the very first phone call. I chatted with Adam at length about my situation and expressed my need for a quick turnaround on quotes due to a home improvement loan I was trying to close. He was able to fit me in immediately that same afternoon and introduced me to my designer, John. A man with a wealth of ideas, knowledge, and (thankfully) patience! He is my very own patron saint of kitchen remodeling. John stayed late to work on my design and turned around a quote in record time! We worked together over the next few weeks to tweak the design while waiting for my loan to close. They were super flexible about making modifications to the design and assured me that they would work with me on my budget and the restrictions of my home improvement loan. John even saved me from a potentially huge disaster that the big box store didn't catch. He immediately recognized that a soffit that was slated to be demolished as part of the original design was in fact a header holding up a large portion of my roof. The big box installers looked at the same soffit and said that taking it out was no problem. The quoted price was clear and drastically different than my big box quote. The delivery and installation prices were more than reasonable. Expectations were clearly set, dates were well communicated, and the entire process went more smoothly than I could have ever dreamed! They were even incredibly flexible with scheduling the installation around some last minute travel opportunities that I just couldn't resist. When installation day finally arrived, I couldn't have been happier. Deliveries were prompt, installers were courteous and thorough. Our installers, Hector, Fernando, and Brian, were absolutely meticulous with their measurements and cuts. They even built some additional custom shelving and a vent hood surround that looks fantastic! I couldn't imagine a better team of installers. UBK arranged for David Shica of DS Surfaces to handle my granite counters. He did an absolutely wonderful job of laying out my countertops to take advantage of a gorgeous pattern in the granite. He had to get a little creative on just how to cut the different pieces to achieve the look I was going for. It looks phenomenal! David was super responsive to email which really helped me finalize things while traveling. He sent me pictures of the layout before he made the cuts and really did an amazing job. The granite came from Pacific Shore Stones where Rebecca was beyond helpful! Due to my schedule, I only had a brief time in the showroom to pick out my granite. I took pictures of the designs I liked and worked with Rebecca over the phone and via email to finalize my choice. She was nice enough to take pictures of additional slabs for me and email them so I could make my final choice. I was a little nervous about picking out the granite icing on my kitchen cake, but she was super helpful and really helped me pick out a gorgeous piece of granite! I could go on and on (and I kinda have) about how fantastic UBK and their phenomenal team are. I absolutely love, love, love my kitchen and love UBK for putting it all together for me! Holy crap, I don't even know where to begin, the service, quality and price is unbelievable! You see, the man and I were destined for IKEA cabs and sure that was all we could afford but after scouring yelp I ran across this place and decided to investigate. Right away, I let them know what our budget allowed, and I did not want to waste their time, nor ours. They came out the same afternoon to measure and set an appt to go over the details. I was blown away when they offered a much better quality cabinet w a life time warranty for just a hair more than ikea. The $ was essentially the same and we could not be happier with our decision. Let me start with the process, 5-6 weeks for the custom cabinets...no problem, we were remodeling. They came early and were delivered exactly when we asked. The delivery guys were professional and charming, and right on time. Next, the install. My man is a DIY guy and abnormally handy, we were going to do this ourselves. By the time this part rolled around we were OVER it and just wanted to be done (eating out every night and supplementing with frozen dinners had us feeling desperate). They were beyond accommodating and scheduled an install at a great price for the following week. I also need to add that the install guys were insanely great with plenty of knowledge to get us through the questions that we had, not to mention very personable (Thank you Thomas!) Today they finished. We are in awe of our amazing magazine worthy new modern kitchen, we sit and stare....literally. Lets also just get this out of the way, my man is sorta cheap, and he knows he can do everything himself (install, not the cabs). He raves about our decision to go w these guys. Every step of the way has been mind blowing with the professionalism, AMAZING customer service, and overall experience... I feel like I have to edit to keep this short but I could go on and on about our experience w UBK. I cannot recommend them enough. You owe it to yourself and your future home value to give these guys a chance. Just walk in, say hello and let them know your expectations. UB Kitchens sets the standard for quality and professional service. We first met Adam and Daniela in 2009 when they provided custom cabinets for our kitchen remodel. The cabinets, the installation, and the ongoing service made UB Kitchens far and away the best element of this large remodel. I am thrilled with my kitchen designed by Joe at UB Kitchens. Not only is the finished product exactly what I had hoped for, the customer service delivered by the entire team at UBK was by far the best we received from any sub as part of a major remodel. Joe listened to our ideas for the kitchen and came up with a great design that is functional and looks so pleasing too. He was super patient as we made small tweaks to the design until it was just as I wanted it. When it came time to install, John and Thomas did an above and beyond job working with our uneven floors and ceiling. John was excellent - working on the smallest details to get them just right, and all with a smile! We had one very tiny hiccup with one cabinet front and UBK fixed it so quickly and were genuinely interested in getting it all perfect for us. I was really impressed! The price is great especially for the high quality of cabinets and service. We went with custom paint colors and they did such a great job. My wife and I just finished remodeling our kitchen with Under Budget Cabinets and I cannot even start to explain how wonderful the experience was. From the first time that I walked into the showroom on Longhorn blvd., through the whole process, and even working through some additions afterwards, everything was better than I could imagine. Our salesman, John, was knowledgeable, courteous, and informative about our options. He took a lot of extra time explaining in detail what we could expect from our remodeled kitchen and everything that he stated was true. Then we received a call from Under Budget Cabinets when our new cabinets had been shipped, right on time by the way, so that they could schedule the install. I asked that they remove our old cabinets one day and then install the new cabinets on the following day so that I could get some sheet rock work completed in between. They had no problem with my special requests. I asked to get some electrical work done and was told, no problem, the following day a very courteous and quick electrician, Mario, showed up and did a fantastic job at a fair price. The cabinet installers were very nice, knowledgeable, clean, and quick. They even worked on Saturday and on Sunday to get the job finished. I have dealt with installation crews in the past and I must say that the Under Budget Cabinet crews were the best by far. When they left there was no mess left behind, if it wasn't for the new cabinets I wouldn't have been able to tell that they were even there. Then, a few days later, David showed up and installed the granite countertops earlier than expected. He had me scheduled for a Monday install and I called to see if we could move the date up to Friday and again I heard, no problem. The whole experience with Under Budget Cabinets was just wonderful. We spent a lot of time shopping for our remodel and not only did Under Budget Cabinets have the best price but they also had better quality cabinets and countertops. By the way, we did the whole remodel for about half of what we thought it would cost. If you are even thinking of remodeling your kitchen give Adam and the guys a call, they will not let you down. Feeling a little apprehensive at the thought of remodeling my kitchen, I went to Under Budget Kitchens to see what they had to offer. Their showroom is nicely set up and has many helpful displays without being overwhelming. Patrice Rios greeted me at the door, asked a few general questions about what I wanted, and was immediately able to show me exactly what I had in mind. Working with a limited budget, I wanted nice-looking, functional cabinets while keeping the cost down so that some "splurge" items could be included in the kitchen. Patrice showed me a line of cabinets that had just become available which was perfect. When Patrice came to my house to measure, she asked a lot of questions and suggested cabinet configurations that would allow as much user-friendly storage as possible without crowding the room. She was totally focused on what I wanted to accomplish. She explained exactly how the project would go, i.e., what would happen first, second, and so forth. She created a design and after a couple of minor tweaks we were ready to go. Not having an eye for decorating, I was nervous about picking out flooring, granite, hardware, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, lighting, etc. so that the kitchen would all come together in the end. Patrice said she would help with all of that, and she did! She has a great eye for detail and was able to suggest viable options for every element of the project. She went with me to select flooring and suggested vendors for lighting, appliances, plumbing fixtures that offer great customer service and carry nice quality merchandise at reasonable prices. There were late-night and week-end emails and text messages to Patrice that were answered almost immediately. No matter what was happening at the time, she was always calm and her comment was usually, "Yes, we can do that." The project got a little hung up in a couple of places unrelated to the cabinets, but UBK's part of the project went exactly as they said it would. Their tear-out/delivery team and installers were professional and polite. The installers paid close attention to every detail and the kitchen looks great! We were looking for a high quality, modern look for our new kitchen, and after we saw the commercial for Under Budget Kitchens, we decided to check them out. From day one it was clear that these guys listen to you, seek out your vision, and will do everything to make sure the kitchen you have in your mind comes true. I'm a perfectionist, so it was amazing to see a company as determined as I am to make every detail sing. We went with a slab style door (Midcontinent, Rohe) and very minimal trim, which meant that everything had to be installed with tremendous skill from beginning to end to ensure a clean and polished look. I have to say, our kitchen is perfect. Besides getting an amazing kitchen at a very competitive price, I would also recommend these guys because they are caring and respectable people. They treated us like friends, which meant a lot to us because it made a process that could otherwise have been miserable very enjoyable. Every single person on their team was that way!! Both my husband and I are in real estate. We see a lot of houses and work with a lot of contractors. These guys really are exceptional. They were nothing but professional and great to deal with. We built a second home out of town in 2011. UB Kitchens were amazing! They meant up with our contractor - took the measurement without us having to be there. We went to their showroom and picked out the cabinets and color. Everything went as planned and they turned out beautiful. The price was alot less than anyone else including Lowes where we had a construction account. Adam and John were SO easy to work with. If you are building a home out of town they are the BEST to work with. Very accommedating to your time not theirs. About 6 months after the home was complete we had an issue with one of the shelves and they came out and fixed it at no charge. Mind you we are in Spicewood and they are in Austin no short trip. I decided it was time for a new kitchen. I priced cabinets at IKEA and based on a review from a friend, gave UB kitchens a call. While they were a little more expensive than IKEA, they were REALLY close and the cabinets are a better quality. They measured everything up and drew up a plan for me. Then they helped me evolve my plan over the course of a few weeks. My cabinets are now installed. Thomas, the install guy did a bad ass job and presented with tons of options along the way. Adam, the owner, has bent over backwards to make sure I was happy with everything. Long story short, if there were 10 stars I would give them all. So many people have forgotten the art of customer service, but these guys have it down. You owe to yourself to call them if you are going to do some cabinets. We started a complete interior remodel in February 2012. After looking at many cabinet providers in town we selected UBK based upon their reputation for providing excellent customer service and quality products at a great price. From start to finish our experience was first class! After showing us various manufacturers and styles, the designer took detailed measurements of all rooms where we wanted cabinets and created a 3D layout for us to review. Given the large number of cabinets and drawers we had selected, we were amazed at the bid they presented - truly under our budget! We placed our order and within 4 weeks everything was delivered. The following week the installation crew worked long hours every day, in several cases custom building items on site as we tweaked the original design to account for construction changes. Over the following 3 weeks they returned numerous times to do touch-up and complete installation in areas where other contractors had been working. Owner Adam Johnston personally visited with us on site many times throughout the process to insure that we were satisfied with the results and work being done. Of all the contractors we used during this remodel, UBK was by far the best. Everyone involved, from design to delivery and installation, made us feel like their goal was our complete satisfaction. In the end we installed cabinets, drawers and counters in the kitchen, laundry, hall, dining room, wet bar and two bathrooms - all for about 30% less than we had budgeted. Needless to say we are thrilled with our "new" home and will gladly recommend UBK to anyone who wants great cabinets from a great company at a great price. read more
