We had heard great things about text Lahoma barbecue from another yelp elite, and decided to check it out ourselves on a Saturday afternoon recently. The restaurant did not disappoint-the food was absolutely phenomenal, portions were a Normanis, and the staff was extremely knowledgeable and kind. Because I eat gluten free, I always am just a little bit nervous trying out a new restaurant. Their team members knew exactly which items were safe and were very in the know about what I could eat on their menu. The good news was there was plenty to enjoy including their main barbecue dishes, as well as almost all of the sides, and even their barbecue sauces. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with many fun signs related to barbecue and painted nicely. Seating is available at traditional tables of various sizes, as well as tall counter style seating on a unique wooden bar by the door. There is no liquor license, so your drink offerings are the traditional iced tea, sodas, and water. We came in the later day on a Saturday, about an hour plus from closing time. There were a handful of their food items that were already sold out for the day. To me, this is the sign of a successful restaurant! In other words their items are so well-known and delicious they sell out if you don't get there in time. We had a loaded baked potato with brisket, a brisket sandwich, And a smoked turkey sandwich,. My boys both had macaroni and cheese as their side and they said it was good. We are looking forward to going back again soon! It is a little bit out-of-the-way way up in Waterloo, basically North Edmond in the country, but it is well worth the drive for a delicious barbecue meal. read more

This place is legit. I can say that cause I am picky about BBQ and good sides. They are killing it on the whole order. I loved the burnt ends, sausage , mac, okra, and potato salad. If I go again it won't be at 3PM. It's hard to judge based on our 3PM visit, but I'm not sure if it would have been different. One of the weirdest things was that the fries we ordered weren't fresh. I don't know if they were just left over from the lunch rush or what, but we definitely saw the guy just re-fry them. There was no water available besides purchasing bottled water, so that was kind of a downer. The brisket was not quite as good as I had hoped. Stopped by here with a large group on a Tuesday evening and were able to be seated immediately. Although the restaurant isn't very big, I never felt cramped in the space with our group. You order at the counter and pick it up when your name is called. The turnaround time on my order was about 10 minutes, which I thought was excellent considering the size of our group. I decided to have the single meat plate and ordered chopped brisket with fried okra and potato salad. Hands down, the brisket is some of the best I have ever eaten. It was juicy and flavorful with just the right amount of fat throughout. However, I was not a fan of the house BBQ sauce and opted to just eat the brisket by itself. Equally good were my two sides. Granted, it's not hard to fry okra, but what I liked is that they seemed to have bigger pieces of okra. (Can't go wrong with more okra!) The potato salad was also very good...one of the better potato salads I've had in a long, long time. My wife's BBQ beans ended up being my favorite side and I'd recommend that everybody get them if they are on their first visit. They are unlike any beans I've ever had before. I did find their ribs to be rather disappointing, however. There just wasn't much to them. While they did separate from the bone nicely, they were dry and there just wasn't much flavor. I don't know if I was supposed to rely on the BBQ sauce to bolster the ribs, but since I didn't like the BBQ sauce to begin with, I was really hoping the rib could stand on its own. The go to BBQ on the north side of Edmond. My wife normally gets the fatty brisket with lots of bark and I'm a pulled pork and sausage fan just to have different things. Granted we buy plenty of extra and stretch it into a weekend of BBQ and movies. They also have burnt ends which just puts the rating at a 6 star review. I don't need to mention the Okra which is mandatory in Okra-Homa. They poke holes in the to go container so you don't have mush when you get home which is usually empty before you get there anyway. Just go. We see a lot of folks eating their sandwiches which I'm sure are to die for. The staff is top shelf and will take care of you. I know that if you ever had an issue they'd make it right. We were on our informal, cross-country quest for the best BBQ on the trip. Today it was Oklahoma BBQ. I spent some time reviewing an article written by an Oklahoman who gathered up five of his friends and did a thorough review of about 20 BBQ joints. The three best weren't in Oklahoma City, but in the nearby outskirts. The article's first choice, The Butcher BBQ Stand, was closed, DW wanted to try Leo's, and I wanted to try the Texlahoma. We got lucky and chose Texlahoma because it was closer than Leo's and it was getting late. Texlahoma isn't the shack we were expecting, and happily, not a Kansas City, Missouri, corporate-designed Jack Stack BBQ restaurant. It was a small restaurant in an unassuming strip mall (hello Inglewood, California) with about six counter seats along the window, a couple of picnic tables at one end and lots of regular tables on the other side. It was almost 1:30 when we walked up to the window. We pleaded BBQ ignorance. The counter guy, he manager said they're known, in this order, for brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and hot links. Judy knew what she wanted - brisket and beans and Cole slaw; rather than try to figure out the menu, I just told him that I also wanted to try the brisket and ribs, and two sides, fried Okra and cole slaw. I asked about burnt ends and he had a few that he piled on the tray, a lagniappe we'd never get at other BBQ places. The brisket was the best we ever had: cut fresh (not pre-sliced, which dries it out) and thick cut, with a strip of fat across the top of each slice. Some people like the fat; we didn't and stripped it off. In retrospect, we should have put the fat into our to-go box, and there was plenty to go, as it would've been terrific when we chopped up our leftover brisket. Compared to other BBQed brisket we tried, this tasted like brisket, moist and juicy, not the least bit salty, and with lots of smokiness. The baby-back pork ribs were short and squat, and moist and meaty, and I could smell the smoke on them. The crusted on crust had a rich taste, I couldn't be sure what, but thankfully, it wasn't sweet; it just tasted like good BBQ. There was lots of okra, hot and crunchy, not too breaded, and too much to finish. Cole slaw was as it should be - crisp and acidic, with just a hint of sugar. I'm not a fan of BBQed beans - mostly it's Heinz or Bushes. These were better, with a umami savory richness, not sweet, with some other herbs I couldn't identify, maybe oregano. The portions were big and we had enough to take with us in our camper van for dinner on another night. While we were eating, the counter guy spent time doling out the Texlahoma's trade secrets. (We found out he's no slouch - he's a BBQ judge.) We got a lesson about brisket, how it's smoked (which side's up), butcher paper vs. tin foil, temperature and wood, and most valuable: brisket smoking ain't easy and he ruined plenty while figuring out how to do it right. We also got a tour of the smoke pit, a tin shack with two large, thick, former propane tanks, both hotter than hell, and smelling of smoke. Outside was a big stack of split oak and hickory. It was bliss. When we went back inside, we met with the owner and his wife, two enthusiastic people and we talked about BBQ. So far, the best BBQ on the trip. read more

I'm 61 years old and have had bbq sandwiches all across the US. I'm guessing that I've been to several hundred bbq joints in my lifetime. The chopped bbq sandwich at Texlahoma is the single best chopped bbq sandwich I've ever had. Period. My eyes rolled back in my head when I took my first bite. I put a little of their mild bbq sauce on each bite which just added to this heavenly bbq delicacy. The bun they use is nicely toasted, which adds the perfect flavor and texture. We've already decided that we'll be using Texlahoma for large family and business gatherings as well. When I went into the restaurant I saw a sign that said "World Famous" bbq and sort of chuckled to myself, cuz you see these type of signs everywhere. This is the first time I agree with the sign. We wanted to ty Texlahoma BBQ instead of Subway next door, on our first and only visit we asked the young black lady behind the counter what their meals consisted of, the young lady did not answer but did look straight in the eyes and turned up her nose and walked off. Went there because of others recommending the food. I ordered chopped brisket, pulled pork, cold slaw and fried okra for takeout. Got my order drove home (about 5 minutes). upon opening the tray the meat was cold, the slaw, I would not feed to my dog. the okra was good, the meat was bland. Best barbecue in Oklahoma in my opinion, but as of late it is going down hill. Not sure why but I think it's because of the staff being very young and they rarely have the right cuts of meat to make the DH, which is my go to there. Oklahoma has several good BBQ places but I don't know of another where you can get real Texas style beef ribs. You can only get them here on Saturday, and if you get them before they run out, but they are fantastic. I make a lot of BBQ myself but I can't come close to their brisket. Like another review on here (Rich R.), I had been to this place when it was run by different owners and was not impressed. What is there now is a totally different deal. This has quickly become my favorite BBQ place by far. I have not ordered a burger but they do look fantastic. If you love real BBQ, give this place a try. read more

YES!! You definitely need to STOP! We were driving back to Texas from a quick trip to Stillwater and decided to try a Yelp recommended BBQ place. It did NOT disappoint! I had The Butler...a stuffed baked potato with chopped brisket, pulled pork, and turkey on top...with a rib as a side. ALL of it was DELICIOUS! I preferred the mild BBQ sauce to the spicy (and I normally like spicy better). I couldn't eat all of it but I tried really hard!! My husband and son both had the chopped brisket sandwich and were mmmmm-ing and yummm-ing the entire time. First time coming to this joint. Made the long drive from Yukon. Reason for the 2 stars. A. The service was pretty terrible. I asked where the bathroom was, got pointed in the wrong direction. I understand the concept of self service, but they should've told us where the drinks, silverware, & BBQ sauce were. Maybe have staff tell customers after they order?? I had to ask about 3 times where different things are. B. I ordered ribs with beans & fries. (Sadly there wasn't Mac & Cheese on the menu. Would recommend that) the ribs were good. Wish they were bigger or more for the price compared to other places... the beans tasted way different than normal ones. Hard to describe the taste. They were terrible. I think this is what made me very sick around 0300 after eating here... bc that's all I could taste during the sickness.
