We were in Galveston and was looking for a good BBQ place that was close. When we saw Texas Pit Stop we thought we were going to have some good BBQ. Unfortunately this was not the case. I ordered the three meat meal with sliced brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. The sides were green beans and mac and cheese. I also ordered a loaded bake potato and a cheese burger with fried okra. For the dessert I was hoping to purchase Pecan Pie but unfortunately they didn't have any so I ordered banana pudding. I was very suspicious once we got home because we drove around the property and noticed no smoke pits whatsoever on the property. After seeing this we should have skipped this place all together. I have been smoking meat for well over 25 years so this was my bad for not checking before I purchased. To all the non Texans please don't take this place as true Texas BBQ because it is not true Texan whatsoever. The brisket I purchased had little to no smoke ring whatsoever, and was very dry. The pulled pork was drowned in some type of sauce that was extremely sweet and the sausage was good....but no smoke ring. The green beans tasted like they were from a can with no flavor and the mac and cheese tasted like it was out of a box and drowned in Velveeta cheese. The banana pudding was ok but tasted like it was poured out of a can. The cheese hamburger was very bland and tasted like a cheap Burger King burger. The stuffed baked potato was good ,but very hard to mess up a baked potato. If you ever had true BBQ no matter where your from you know a smoke ring means it was truly smoked. This place does not have a smoke ring on the meat and if you don't believe me look at their website or other peoples pictures and you will see there is no smoke ring. I try to give every business a chance but when you label yourself as Texas BBQ that is a big standard to hold up to. If the owner sees this please fix these issues and use a true smoker because without doing this you are just another Dickey's Barbecue Pit which is not true BBQ FYI we paid almost $70 for all the food. Very very sad.

Looks good but is dried up and a waste of money I could of eaten elsewhere

I went to dine in. The food was dry. I did not complain because no one seemed to care. After all they served that to us. The brisket was drIed up, chicken looked dried up with heated lap, & we got old bread. The sausage and ribs were decent. I got the last cup of tea since the staff didn't restock it. The people who prepared our order obviously do not care about food service! I was not impressed with the customer service or quality of the food!

Ribs, turkey, and pulled pork. Nachos. Mac and cheese. Baked bean. Twice backed potato. Spice and regualr bbq sauce.

Delicious food! I went with one pther person around 5:30pm on a Thursday night. The food was delicious. We both orderes the two meat plate with 2 sides and split brisket nachos. My friend had the ribs and pulled pork, twice baked potato, and mac and cheese. I had the turkey and pulled pork whith mac and cheese and baked beans. I loved the turkey and pulled pork. My friend enjoyed her ribs too. I think the twice baked potato was the best our of all the sides we got. I got the regular and spicy bbq sauce and the spicy is definitely my favorite. We had to wait about 20-30 minutes for our food and it was not that busy. The staff did apologize for our wait though. I would return to this restaurant in the future.

The three best letters in the English alphabet and this place halfway between La Marque and Galveston does it right. And it has the trophies to prove it -- more on that later. Despite BBQ being a huge, integral part of this wonderful state, I haven't had any since last Christmas. Also, I haven't been here in quite a while (read: three years) so I figured a lunch visit was in order. I got the two meat platter with pork ribs and brisket. For my sides, I chose mac and cheese and Cajun potato salad. The brisket was melt in your mouth great. No grease, just juices. When it comes to ribs -- pork ribs, especially, I judge them by how easy the meat comes off the bone. That said, I could eat the ribs here until I pop. Tender, nicely marinated, and just the right size, a full rack is a probable must on my next visit. Regarding trophies, diners will see a lot of them all over the restaurant. For give or take more a decade, Pit Stop has competed in many a event and placed. Granted, you won't be disappointed with what you'll grub on here.

Food was amazing , sides were so rich and tasty . It's good food . Fast service , brisker was soft and juicy

What you get if you order "moist brisket"

Ordered two different meat plates and requested "moist brisket" on each. At best, one was lean on the dry side and the other was super dry. Just awful terrible brisket. Better than the first brisket I ever made but not by much. The other meats were okay and sides were too which kept this from being a one star review. Not a top five worst brisket I've ever had but a top five worst brisket from a bbq restaurant. Too awful to even make chopped beef with yet they served me slices of it after I requested moist only. If they posted their recipe I would use it as tips and tricks for things to avoid in a brisket cook

Great as always…read more While we've eaten at Kelley's when in this area in the past, this is the first time we've eaten at this location. It was about 6:30 pm on a Friday night. Our server was a bit tired as it was near the end of her shift. Yet, she was pleasant and accommodating. We ordered our drinks and they came right away. We then ordered our meals as follows: - Breakfast Tacos and Hashbrowns (shared by my wife and I) - Baked Potato - Loaded (shared by my wife and I) - Chicken Fried Steak (Friday Special) with 3 Vegetable sides (shared by our friend and his wife) - Baked Potato - Loaded plus extra butter (shared by our friend and his wife) The food took about 10 minutes to come out. And wow - so much food! First, the baked potatoes. I mean, c'mon man! These were hands-down, the largest backed potatoes any of us have ever seen and we've been around. They were served but open, lengthwise and flattened out, then loaded with toppings. They came on a 13" of so oval platter and I'd say the spuds were about 9 to 10 inches long. HUGE! And they were cooked to velvety smooth creaminess. We just loved them. Our friends enjoyed their Chicken Fried Steak and side. The sides were quite large. At least 8 ounces each. My wife and I also enjoyed our Breakfast Tacos. We were so full, we didn't eat the hasbrown potatoes, but we brought them to the hotel and may reheat them in the morning. If you've never been to Kelley's just south of Houston, check them out. They have 7 locations. The food is decent and the portions are generally large and the value is great. While we didn't have them today, we've had their Onion Rings before and they are amazing. Looking forward to our next meal at Kelley's!

Very old school. We were tasting each other's plates. Some were better than others but all meals were authentically home made and delicious. Reminded me of sit down restaurants when I was a kid before the fast food take over. As others have mentioned, portions are huge! Our waitress did our table of 13 and was fantastic. Will definitely be back!

I had the three meat and two sides, the brisket was great, the turkey was superb, and the ribs were the cherry on top. My wife had a baked potato with ham, she really enjoyed it. My son had a rodeo burger and he love it. My daughter thought her chicken tenders were okay. They have a table up with all the fixings, pickles, onions, jalapenos, etc. I had a cold shiner bock with my meal. The food was a solid 8.5/10. The staff was 10/10 very friendly people. We sat down and my son was praying for our meal, the server bringing out the cook to order part of our meal waited for my son to finish praying before she approached our table as to not interrupt. This was extremely courteous and I can tell you it is not the norm. We are fairly new to the Fe (approaching 4 years), and I think we found a go-to spot for bbq. So when I was looking for a place to eat somewhere on our trip home from Galveston, I knew this might be my best chance. I'd originally planned on just ordering a simple brisket sandwich, but as I looked at the menu, I felt like I wanted one of everything. I was really tempted to order a loaded baked potato, but because I'd be eating it in the car, I figured that might be a bit too messy, so I eventually went with Plan A. One bite into that thing and I knew I made the right decision. It was so juicy and so flavorful. Just the perfect lunch for what I was craving. And then to make this love story even better, later that day, I went to HEB. My HEB happens to have one of those BBQ restaurants inside of it, and it's never open when I visit because I always do my grocery shopping in the morning. But this particular visit was at about 4pm. And I opted to order the exact same thing: a brisket sandwich, so that I could compare the two. I'm sure this is not news to Smokin Z's or their fans, but this was the most lopsided competition I've experienced in a while. My visit to HEB only made me appreciate Smokin Z's more, as the HEB version tasted like something made by my 11 year old nephew. I'm embarrassed I even put the two head to head, as we're talking about a totally different weight class here.
