This is the second vehicle I have purchased from Texas Central Motors in 9 years. Loved the first car, so much, but at about 204,000 miles, it was time to look for another one. I immediately went to Texas Central Motors. I really like these people. They are honest, and are fantastic explaining things. It's not just a cliche', your satisfaction is their highest concern. I was only kind of shopping when I went into their office on a late Friday afternoon...saw the car I wanted...the guys (Mike & Mike) stayed late so we could get the transaction completed that evening, past their closing hours. Coming off a major surgery the week before, and still in some discomfort, I felt great afterwards. We purchased the dealer's personal car this May 5th. On the 16th of June after a rainstorm, our entire interior floorboard was underwater. We called Mike who completely blew us off. Said calm down bring it to him for a vacuum. He became very angry when we told him we believed there was significant water damage prior to our purchase. Well, we were correct. Mike is very crooked. We are now paying $7000 to have the entire inside interior removed and restored because of previous hidden water and mold damage. They said he had hidden all of this previous damage knowingly and sold us the car. I knew I felt sick when I drove it the few times I did from asthma from the mold, but you did not expect that from a new car you just bought!!! He also rigged a bunch of wiring in the back which they said was very dangerous. We have only made 2 payments on this car. Mike refused to take any responsibility whatsoever. He is very aggressive and threatening. We wanted to litigate, but in Texas when you buy from a dishonest individual or small crooked dealership you buy "as is", and so we are left with this mess. We simply want to help warn anyone we possibly can!!!!!!!!! Please please do not make the same mistake we did. This car has financially ruined us and Mike sold it with no conscious whatsoever. Tried to discuss my problem with Fred and he turned out to be unprofessional, untrustworthy and useless. I've known Mike for probably 20 years.  I bought a 1989 Ford van from him.  I got a decent price and for year's he helped me maintain it.  He's never once lied to me. Now, I'll tell you this, Mike is VERY direct. Sometimes that can be a little off putting, but the fact that the info is delivered directly doesn't change the fact that that it's indeed true. I had the '89 Ford towed into his shop. When I called him to find out what was wrong with my van, the first thing out of his mouth was "you're screwed," or something to that effect.  But guess what, he was right. The motor, with close to 300,000 miles was economically unrepairable. He said I had gotten my money's worth out of the van, it was time to get another one.  Guess what, he was RIGHT.   This is a family run joint. Mike's dogs are part of his family, so they are there with him at work.  Anyone that makes a value judgement on a business out of context is an idiot.  I've been in their shop many times and the dogs were never an issue for me.   And I've had Mike's mechanics work on several of my cars. The diagnosis was always on time and the price and work was great.  I highly recommend them for their mechanical work as well as their car sales.  And to the guy that suggested that Auto P.I. might be biased in favor of Texas Central Motors, well, I would say that my credit union recommends them. I've used them probably 10-12 times at various locations, with both private parties and dealers and have found them to be totally unbiased each and every time.  I'd recommend a private pre-purchase on EVERY used car purchased, regardless of price of the car or where it was purchased. I bought a "Certified" Volvo back in 1992 from one of the  most reputable Volvo dealerships in North Texas.  My pre-purchase inspection found about $2,400.00 worth of issues, ALL that were on the "certified checklist." The dealership took the report and fixed every single item on the inspection report at no cost to me and I bought the car. I drove it for over twenty years before it was totaled in an accident.  I've referred folks to Texas Central Motors and recommend them. Identified a Ford Focus in their inventory that was a great fit for my needs, wants, and budget. I gave them an offer, a very reasonable counter to the advertised price, which they agreed to without hesitation or petty negotiation. The proprietor and his son really had a pragmatic rather than a salesmanship approach, and I felt little of the kind of gamesmanship that gives used car dealers a bad rap. All of the paperwork was handled smoothly and I left feeling good about the purchase. A few months and a few thousand miles later I have no regrets - the car I bought has been great and trouble-free. I'd recommend to anyone buying a used car from a dealer to bring it to a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection (PPI). In my case I was buying cheap and I relied on my limited knowledge to evaluate the car. The guys allowed me plenty of time to examine the car head-to-toe. My initial judgment and subsequent opinions have remained positive. I doubt that every car on their lot would meet the same objective standards as the one I bought but I'm confident that a smart person (possibly accompanied by a car-smart person) will find that their inventory is well-chosen and generally might pass third-party inspection. I'm glad to have this dealer in my neighborhood, and happy to be driving my fun little Ford Focus! So far, so good! read more

Beware of this guy, his shady cars, and the Carfax reports that come with them. I was interested in a 2007 Honda Fit he has that comes with a "clean" Carfax report. My mechanic didn't even need to look under the hood to tell me this car has been in a MAJOR accident and his been shoddily thrown together again. When I confronted the owner and his mechanic they acted (poorly) surprised. I should have known better anyway. Before even test driving the vehicle I checked all the doors; the entire side mirror fell off the passenger side upon closing! The owner then had the nerve to tell me it could be fixed, "but that's gonna cost money..." After telling me it was fixed, my mechanic showed me it was glued on. Amazing. Run, don't walk, away from this place. read more

I used to bring my car here for repairs all the time, until I moved away (and started buying cars that didn't break as often). Mike is one of the only auto mechanics I've ever trusted. He demonstrated to me time and again that he's not trying to get rich by ripping people off. At the time I was a student and he often would counsel me about exactly what work needed to be done to get me back on the road vs. what should really be done if I can afford it. On occasions when I price-checked his work he was always the best deal by far. By providing reliable service at an always great price and never attempting to rip me off, Mike earned himself a soft spot in my heart. I guess he can be a bit direct - a good thing in my book. I came in after looking at a car I saw online, one of the sales men, Cyrus, stayed a little late to show me the car! He was friendly and really helpful! This was my first time buying a car without the help of my parents. I totaled my last car, and soon was fawning over a 2011 Accent. It was fairly priced. I was initially wary because this is a smaller dealership and because of the other reviews. But my experience was wonderful. I hired an independent mechanic to check out the vehicle before buying (Auto P.I, I would highly suggest to EVERYONE no matter where you buy). The car did have minor issues (front alignment, missing a spare jack, and expired emissions) but the owner handled and fixed all of them within 24 hours. Mike took the time to make sure that everything was done quickly but thoroughly. He was friendly and answered all my questions, and even helped me understand the process since I had never done credit union financing and all. I would definitely buy a car from here again! But let's hope I don't have to anytime soon! read more

I bought a Honda Accord from this dealership. Overall, I would have to disagree with most of the commenters- this is a halfway decent car dealership, and it doesn't seem shady. Mike wasn't bad to negotiate with, and we ended up with a very low price on the car (I say it's low because I researched the market online for a couple weeks before buying, not because of anything Mike said). You can probably save money by buying here instead at one of the nicer dealerships. I emailed two dealerships selling comparable Accords, and neither would budge from their asking price, which was 2-3k more than what I ended up spending at Texas Central Motors. My complaints are that the internet ad was misleading by listing certain features that were clearly not associated with the car (or any other Accords, for that matter) such as air-conditioned seats. The listing also said the car had a rear spoiler, wood grain, and extra keys, none of which were true. The absence of these features either didn't bother me or didn't surprise me, so I personally wasn't affected by this. The car was also somewhat dirty in the interior when I bought it. He recommends Auto PI if you want to get the car inspected by someone else before you buy it. A quick search for reviews on Auto PI reveals glowing reports, but you may still want to consider something else because Auto PI has an incentive to find nothing wrong with the car in order to keep business with Texas Central Motors. The BBB rates Texas Central Motors and Auto PI favorably. Only time will tell if I truly got a good deal on the car, but at face value, it seems my experience with this company was positive. 4-YEAR POSTMORTEM: Haven't heard anything else from the dealership, but the car is still running pretty well. They had to have known there was an issue with it, but they never disclosed it. When called, the owner was very rude and said basically too bad and he would only fix it at full cost. Seriously!!! I would run away from this place as fast as I can. My son went on his own to buy his first vehicle. It was a 2004 Jeep Liberty. He asked if he was being sold a good car and they looked him in the eye and said "we don't sell bad cars here". It didn't even make it past the weekend and the engine light came on. Took it to an auto mechanic and was told that the transmission was bad. So far we have replaced the transmission, new power steering rack, head gaskets and oil pan gaskets, and there is still all the hoses to the power steering are leaking and the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I wouldn't trust this place at all. Especially on an older car. Make sure that you take a mechanic along or take the vehicle to an independent shop to get it looked at. I can't figure out how this thing got an inspection sticker in the first place. read more

I found this place on AutoTrader.com. I was very fortunate to find a vehicle here well below blue book value with a factory warranty. The prices were lowered for Christmas. The car I got was a repossessed vehicle that he bought at an auction at a very low price. Mike, the owner, was straight-forward with what was included and what was missing. He doesn't finance: cash only and the prices are firm. I'm very surprised that the previous reviewer had a bad experience because he wasn't pushy at all. He was just blunt. Either you buy it or someone else will come along and buy it instead. He wasn't rude about it either. Deposits are $200. They are not required, but this place is a first-come first-served business. If you arrange an inspection and financing before-hand, and if you know what you are looking for, then it can be a quick transaction. Otherwise you might lose a great deal. I compared his prices EVERYWHERE -- AutoTrader, Edmunds, Craigslist -- and I could not find a better deal anywhere else within a reasonable distance. I had my vehicle inspected by Auto P.I. and it was basically in perfect condition. They changed the oil for me and even gave me some tips specific to maintaining my vehicle to ensure it lasts "forever". I'm very happy so far. I would recommend this place to anybody who is responsible enough to do their own research, get a vehicle inspected, and arrange their own financing. Bought my Protege sedan from them and was satisfied with it. I first looked at the "pressure cooker" Charles Maund, but left due to them baiting-and-switching and trying to get me into a new car. I guess at least you can say the owner is not your classic used-car salesman -- definitely far from a smooth talker! In fact, the guy is so brusque, I wonder that anyone sticks around long enough to test drive a car. I was very interested in a Toyota he had listed on a couple of websites, but before I could mention that I had seen it online, he barked a price $500 higher than listed. Bizarrely, when I didn't want to test-drive a Civic instead, he just handed me a clipboard listing everything he had -- in small, not reader-friendly type -- and basically said "find something in your price range." I looked, and the car I'd come to see was listed at the lower price. Huh? He was such an unpleasant individual, I didn't want to deal with him at that point, even if he'd come down on the price. In addition, I first spoke to a mechanic who came up to greet me, and he pointed out the Civic, and when I said I wasn't looking at those because of transmission problems, he said "Oh, that's just the Accord." Sorry, the Civics also had a streak where the trannies were often going bad. read more

I bought the 2007 Honda Fit that reviewer "Belle B." was interested in back in 2010. As a matter of fact, I bought it the next day. It's now August 2015 and I've never had any trouble with this car. It has run like a dream for 5 years now. The inspector I hired gave me a list of the problems, and none of them were major. He recommended buying the car. The experience at the dealership was seamless and pleasant. As a first time car buyer and female, they were great. Stay away! I bought a 2001 Honada Civic from this guy in August 2011 for $5900. It appeared to be in good working condition. No body issues I could see at the time and on the test drive, ran better than any of the other cars I test drove that day. So I decided on the Honda. He showed me a Carfax report and it was clean and it showed no accidents or any major issues. But the thing about Carfax is that its only as reliable if everything is reported. I noticed at the time that it hadn't been inspected. Within 10 minutes, he got it inspected. When we were signing the papers, Mike emphasized greatly that we were buying it as is and there was NO LEMON LAW. This should have been a red flag. He also gave me a list of repairs he had done, including changing the timing belt, new tires and routine maintenance. I signed the papers and drove the car home back to Bastrop and it rode fine until once I was in Bastrop where it started overheating. I called Mike and told him about it and he said to make sure I keep water with me in the car. That was his solution to the problem. Anyway, for about a week I dealt with this until I took it back to him to see what the problem was. His tone changed greatly. However, he did replace a fan that had gone bad, but charged me $75 to do so. The problem was fixed as it didn't overheat, but two weeks later, it started overheating again. So I took it to a local Jiffy Lube where they did a flush of the coolant system. That worked fine for about two weeks, but then it started overheating again. In October, I was on my way to Austin when it broke down. Luckily, It broke down by a local AutoZone, so I went in a decided to replace the thermostat. I hired a local mechanic to come put it in for me and it ran fine for a few months, but started overheating again. At this point, I was getting really frustrated, but one day in January, when I was checking the oil, I noticed a clamp from the overflow tank to the radiator was missing. So I went and bought one. The car ran fine for for about four weeks and started overheating again. This time, I called Mike and told him about the problems and he basically blew me off and said I had to be running it hot and damaged other parts. Kind of gave me the impression, Its not his problem. From about February to March, It kept giving me problems overheating, but I would just stop and put more coolant in the radiator and it would run fine. One day, the check engine light came on so I took it to Auto Zone to get a reading. I also took it to a local mechanic to see if my worst fears, a blown head gasket, were true. Well they weren't as the car showed no evidence of a blown head gasket, but he did see that there was some corrosion in the radiator cap and with the radiator. So on the first week of April, I replaced the radiator and radiator cap. That's when I noticed the duct tape holding up the front fender because it was well hidden behind the radiator, which tells me it was in an accident, unlike the Carfax report had said. Once the radiator was replaced, the car ran great until yesterday, when I was driving to work in Austin and it started puttering along on the highway and you guessed it, started overheating. I pulled over to the side of the road and all the fluids were fine, but there was a burning smell coming from the engine. I let it sit for a few minutes and started it up again and that's when the smoke came flying from the tailpipe and there was water in my oil and coming from the tail pile. Found out that I had overflowed the oil tank. In the next few months, I had replaced the sparkplugs, battery and ignition coil. Moved to Florida and it wouldn't start one day. Took it to a mechanic and the guy said the timing belt couldn't have been replaced because if it was, so would have been the sensor, which needed replaced. read more

So we were looking for an entry car for a friend something low in price but not a pile a junk. One was listed on line at this place and we dropped by to see it and test drive it. The car was dirty and out of gas and illegally parked on the street. I don't care how people live their lives but having two dogs in the office running loose does not offer a lot of confidence on these guys. Finally, the car was gassed up and we took it for a test drive (I noticed the cracked windshield) and other minor issues but it ran basically ok for the age of this American made Buick. After talking to Mike the owner we desided to buy it and we told him to clean it up, get it inspected and put temporary license plates on it . At delivery time the engine was not cleaned up and he told me not to clean it becasue it could start leaking oil! I always keep my engines CLEAN and not amount of dirt and grime will stop an oil leak from happenig. The car was "inspected" and it was passed even thou one light bulb was not working in the rear lights ( sleeze inspection place) I am now wondering if it passed the emission test or if it was faked also. Final nail on the coffin - the "secretary" a young lady wearing very short pants and driving one of the Lexus car had an open six pack of beer in the front seat of the car. I am not expert on Drinking and Driving Laws inTexas but I believe that is illegal also employees should not be drinking and driving during company working ours. I have never had worse service anywhere than at Texas Central Motors. When I first went there everything went well and I found myself what seemed like a great car. Yet just a few short weeks later the car is already in the shop and needs major repairs. The owner, Mike, seemed to be a great guy but when it came to the car he sold me having issues, he turned into a completely different person! He acted like he was trying to help me and "changed a few parts" on my car the resulted in NOTHING. So I took it to a different shop and he TOLD ME HE WOULD HELP PAY FOR THE COSTS. However, when it came time to actually repair the car is when he completely freaked out on me and told me over and over "You are putting words in my mouth!" Calmly, I tried to explain to him what I thought we agreed on and he told me he was going to hang up on me if I kept "talking to him that way" I didn't make up what he told me! I realize it wasn't in writing or included in a warranty but it proved that this business is dishonest! I was being kind and trying to just discuss the issue! At that point he continued to yell at me over the phone for 5 minutes. I finally got a word in and told him I didn't call him for advice or to hear my options and he interrupted and said he didn't need to listen to me or what I had to say and demanded that I never call his shop again. I hung up the phone that instance and was so upset for hours! I have NEVER been treated this way by a business and I have no good things to say about Mike or his business! Being in the business of sales this is no way to treat your customers! It is very obvious to me now that this must be a pattern of his because of how immediate he turned on me and began deffending himself! There cars are in bad condition and there business is shady and anybody who reads these reviews should take EVERYONES advise and stay away form this terrible place! I wish now that I had looked up reviews and done more research before buying this car because sadly it turned out to be a huge mistake and a very costly situation. read more
