Last week I bought two vehicles, and my only regret is that I bought one of them before finding Texas Auto Ranch. I called and left a message Monday morning and received a call back from the owner, John Phillips. I pass by his lot every day coming and going and noticed that he always seemed to have lots of nice looking stock on hand. I was in the market for a late model Infiniti and noticed that he had several on hand. When John called me back, I delivered my typical "This ain't my first rodeo speech," so as to let him know that I was not going to be a push over. John was very humble and friendly, it was immediately apparent to me that working with him was going to be fun and easy. After speaking on the phone a few times, curiosity finally got the better of me and I stopped by after work. John is a man's man who loves to talk about fishing and his kids, and we got along famously. He presented me with several options, and earned my trust by revealing several aspects of the deal that are normally kept from customers. It was an educational experience, even for someone like me whose bought several cars and has friends who have their dealers license. The car had some minor imperfections, but John made some calls and got me taken care of. As it turns out, this is not his first rodeo either and he is incredibly well connected, and apparently incredibly influential with his business contacts as he was able to get me some nice freebies and discounts. Having purchased 10 cars since moving to Austin, most of them at Austin Infiniti, I had a good basis for comparison for rating a car buying experience. John and Texas Auto Ranch are far and away the best I've ever encountered, and because of integrity, his personality, and his willingness to go above and beyond, he's earned a customer for life. Here are some pointers: 1. Call him first to find out if he has what you want, or visit his website. 2. He may be able to find what you want if he doesn't already have it. 3. Be nice and you'll be amazed at the level of service you receive. 4. Give John a shot at your financing even if you already have your own lined up. He could have saved me some money, as it turns out. 5. Compare his prices to anyone in town; you'll be amazed. 6. Tell him that you contacted him because of his YELP page, so he'll believe me when I tell him it will actually increase his sales. read more

Best car dealership ever, hands down! We had a great experience at Texas Auto Ranch in Hutto! They are not your typical, fancy car dealership, with the sales team vultures stalking and swirling around you. The owner, John Phillips, is an honest man, just trying to make a living. I found the car online and had to drive from Galveston to Hutto to go get it. John held the car for me for 2-3 days until I could get out there; even though, he had other offers on it. When we got there, he handed me the keys, and allowed us to test drive the car by ourselves, trusting us to come back. Neither him, nor his friend and co-worker, Mike, bothered us while we were looking at the car, checking for damage, making sure all the buttons, lights, etc. worked; and that the car was in good condition. They were actually helpful and answered all of our questions with no pressure. They were no hassle, straight-up, and to the point. Not to mention, they gave us a great deal on the price!!! They made the car buying process quick and painless, in fact, it was a very pleasant experience. He even offered to take care of us, if any issues happened after we purchased the car. Additionally, they recommended a cute cafe for us to eat at afterwards, which was delicious and another pleasant experience. Needless to say, it was well worth the long drive to Hutto, and we will definitely be purchasing our next car from them. It is rare to find genuine, honest, good people like John and Mike. The most pleasant car buying experience I have ever had! I usually hate buying cars because there is usually a lot of sitting and waiting for financing, negotiating, talking to this person and that person trying to sell you things you don't need... Thankfully I found John this time! I was looking for a newer model Infiniti G37 and found the perfect one on AutoTrader. The price was lower by a few thousand than any of the other similar listings and I was a little apprehensive about buying from a small dealer. I emailed an inquiry and John called me back right away. Within 45 minutes I was test-driving my perfect car! Later that day I decided that I wanted it but the only thing I was concerned about was the black interior and John offered to have the windows tinted...the deal was made! I went home filled out the credit app and was approved immediately. John said all I need to do is come in and sign. The next day John took it to the Infiniti dealer to get another key made and then to another place to get the windows tinted. I came in the day after that, signed the paperwork and was out the door in 15 minutes. No trying to upsell me, no BS to deal with. Just straight-forward honesty. So refreshing! If you are looking for a specific car and he doesn't have it, let him know what you want and he can find it for you. Save yourself a lot of time and contact John first! This place was a disgrace to the auto retail shops. The office is a shack with questionable floor stability. And John is an unkempt blowhard, who starts out the conversation with stories of kids and family. Im Christian and I also love my family but no ned to boast over a car deal. I found TAR back in 2009 when I needed a new car due a vicious hailstorm. I visited John and was immediately impressed with his acumen, knowledge of his inventory and overall prowess of the industry as it pertains to selling cars. He's not a car salesman - he's a match maker meant to get you into the car that you want even if that means he doesn't have it on his lot; he will go find it for you. Fast forward to just a couple of weeks ago - I reached out again to John to let him know I was in the market again and he, as usual, got right back to me. He didn't have at the time what I wanted on the lot so quickly started working his magic and within a day had me the "golden goose" in my inbox; the exact car with all the upgrade packages, color and everything I was looking for. John will take care of you before and after the sell and you never have to deal with that "dealership" experience we have grown to loathe. This really is the best place to buy a car. I recently purchased a vehicle from Texas Auto Ranch and you really can't beat the pricing and friendly service. John Phillips, the owner, personally handled my deal and the experience was great. I wouldn't buy a vehicle anywhere else. If you are worried about pressure, don't be. I've test driven several vehicles and found each one to be in perfect shape. He only picks the really good ones and, if you check the carfax he has a strong preference for cars with all of their scheduled service reported. Maybe you have some concern about going to an independent dealership. Often you would be right to be concerned. Texas Auto Ranch has been a part of the community for a long while and so it has a record. I know quite a few people who have purchased their vehicles there and have heard nothing but positive things about the vehicles they have purchased. If you want glass walls, shiny showroom floors and reception desks go for it. I hope you enjoy paying for all of that overhead. Have a nice K-cup or two for me. I'd rather go to Texas Auto Ranch and get a great deal and a trade value that is more than fair and take that money I saved and drive on over to Starbucks and buy a real good cup of coffee. There is nothing I DREAD more than car shopping/buying and we had 2 cars we needed to buy at once. We found these guys through USAA's preferred dealerships. I've never worked with an independent dealership and honestly wouldn't have tried it if it wasn't a suggested dealer that I get a lower rate for going through. At first we went to look at only one of the cars we needed (but had been shopping at large dealerships for weeks). John and Mike are the nicest guys and extremely transparent in their cost & profit. We literally saw the auction list that showed what they bought the car for so we knew what the markup was. It made me feel very comfortable instead of how I usually feel- like I'm somehow being duped.... We ended up buying the 1st car, a 2014 Lexus with low miles. It was a super quick process unlike the usual at big dealerships- multiple trips to the manager for negotiations, a long deal with them trying to convince to to buy the warranty, blah, blah, blah. He even discouraged us from buying the warranty from him because it's still under factory warranty. He said we could just come back to him when that warranty is out and buy it from him then if we wanted. It took about 20min to close and only that long because we chatted the whole time. We decided we wanted to get the 2nd car through him but he didn't have exactly what we were looking for when we bought the first car. He offered to go through the next auction list with us so we could pick what we wanted. We went on vacation right after that so we didn't have time but he ended up getting exactly what we wanted anyway (low miles 2016 fully loaded Infiniti Q50) and we went and closed on it today. Again, super quick closing. Anyway, I don't take the time to write reviews usually but these guys deserve it and if you're like me you might overlook them because they're independent Eitht a no frills lot. What I learned is that can be to the buyer's advantage because the low overhead is passed on to us in cheaper prices. Give them a shot. Even if they don't have what you want on their lot, they'll find it for you. Oh and he gave us contact #s for the infinit & Lexus dealerships for when we need them down the road and said to come back to him for tires and other maintenance because he can get excellent deals through his good ole boy network in the industry. read more

John Phillips at Texas Auto Ranch is by far the most honest and helpful guy I have ever met in the car business. His lot is small, but he will help you in any way that he can. He has saved me a bunch of money. I bought my first car from John in 2010 and it was a beautiful Infinity M35 with only about 25,000 miles. The price was better than I could find anywhere on the internet. He had new tires that were great and lasted me 4 years until I recently traded in the car. We never had any problems with that car. I also traded in a Lexus RX-350 to John and he gave me a great price on the trade-in. Just recently I traded in another car to John for cash so I could buy a car I found on the internet in another state. John worked a deal so that I could get credit for a trade-in and saved me over $1,000 in taxes that I would have paid on the other car. John just offered to do this - I did not even think to ask him! As I said, he will help you any way that he can. I send all of my friends to John to buy used cars for them. One friend bought a Mercedes and an Audi A8L from John - just the cars he wanted. John made him a very happy customer also. I have purchased many new cars and used cars over the years, at dealerships and used car lots. I have even sold my own cars by advertising them in the newspaper (remember that?) and on the internet. Now, I just go to John and let him do all the work for me because I trust him and I have enough experience to know that he is honest and does what he says. If you want to get screwed and yelled at by John (owner) and Dwight (employee) then go Texas Auto Ranch. They swear they only buy used cars from private individuals, but they really buy auction cars according to a Nissan and Honda dealership. After I complained to John about the "AS IS" lemon that I purchased from him, John yelled at me, and then proceeded to brag about how much money he made off the car he sold me. This "AS IS" car broke down twice during rush hour on IH-35 and completely broke down within 2 weeks of purchasing it. Thank God my 20 year-old daughter has AAA towing.
