The Godburger has been stewing over his 3rd loss in a row from 3 years back. It still wanted a piece of me.
It taunted me via online forums, calling me "The Workin' Stiff," threatening to get me "bound up for a week" due to its prodigious size.
"I wanna try you one more time," it said. "Come back, kid. I need to show you why I'm still on top, why I still kill Flathead's, Glurgatory, and Wingfart's. They ain't a drop of burger juice to me. Bring yer old lady too. I want her to see me beat you. Then, I'm gonna run off wit her!"
Last night, after a bastard of a week, I decided to take out my frustrations on The Godburger once more, ignoring Kay's pleas.
"Baby, you don't need to do this again."
So for the 4th time, I met The Godburger. Instead of running at me like a bull, on this occasion, it tried to psych me out with theme music, casually strolling out of the chamber and onto the darkened chessboard floor as the crowd jeered it...

Steaming, it spat a mixture of jus and blood in my face, causing me to lose control and attack, but with first bite, I was covered with....egg yolk?
"Ha-ha! Breakfast boy-yo!"
Spinning out of hand quickly, I discovered that jack cheese, a sunny side up egg, and bacon were added to its arsenal. I also learned that beef doesn't always need seasoning to be tasty, the natural flavors of the chopped chuck (still done on the premises) shining through with no embellishment needed to draw them out.
Before long, all that was left of the colossus were stains of hot, yellow liquid and pieces of that chewy sourdough bun that is prepared fresh every morn by a neighboring bakery.
The sweet cream of the tender potato salad acted as a quiet epilogue, and like the burger, it sits at the highest echelon.
I needed to go back in the wake of the recent lynching of Tessaro's (anti-'Burgh bias, hatred of the venerable and traditional?), and after my latest experience, have chosen to deem those petty, negative reviews clueless and irrelevant. Tessaro's doesn't need to be hip or rely on gimmickry. They just do what they do, and they do it smashingly well.
Also, for the very first time, I tried an entree from Tessaro's expansive menu that was not a burger, their Barbeque Chicken being a tender, moist, sticky, honeybun of a clucker that thankfully for me, Kay couldn't finish.
I've beaten the Godburger in enough matches to know once and for all that it is as supreme as it has ever been. Now, to explore the remainder of the menu when next I eat there.
P.S. The service was just fine. read more
