The food was all very good. The bun would probably be better if it was toasted or a better quality bread. The potatoes were fantastic. It's been at least 10 years since my last visit to Tessaro's. I've always felt it was the best hamburger in the city and even with the long lapse in visits, the quality has not declined. My sons and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon following a Pitt basketball game. We were quickly seated. The waitress had multiple tables but was friendly and efficient. I offered to give her our entire order during her first stop but she took drink orders only. My youngest had a regular burger, my oldest had a cheeseburger, and I had the breakfast burger with home fries. All burgers were cooked to perfection (medium). Home fries were quite tasty too. It's a little interesting that they don't have French fries but I'm fine with home fries. Both my sons devoured their burgers. Food arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. This place has a great vibe. We came for lunch on a recent Saturday, the front bar area was busy so we sat in a back room which was about half full - not as atmospheric as the front but perfectly pleasant. Our waitress was very friendly, as was another lady who I assumed was the owner/manageress. Burgers were great, they arrived promptly and were perfectly cooked, generously sized, and very tasty. There's no fries at Tessaro's but there are plenty of other side options which are included in the price of your burger. We had a potato salad and some home fries both of which were good. Also added red, boiled potatoes smothered in butter. My husband had a steak sandwich, very tender and pink. Bun was soft and ample. And the onions and mushrooms were done to perfection. I ordered a regular ol' cheeseburger, with cheddar and all the toppings with coleslaw as a side. The coleslaw was a slightly sweet-tangy-creamy fresh tasting creation. We read about Tessaro in a magazine recently that was talking about the 100 best restaurants in the US and decided it was time to give it a try. We called in ahead and my wife went to pick up at the appointment time. When she got there the greeter thought our meals weren't ready yet so she waited patiently for about 15 minutes until they realized it was sitting on the counter and had been ready all along...That long wait, plus the short drive home meant the food was cold and slightly slightly. For my meal I got the Gourmet Kelly burger with home fries and my wife got the cheeseburger with potato salad. The sides were actually pretty nice and the portions of everything were very large. The buns were so large in fact that we could hardly get our mouths around them. So cozy and fun! Visited Tessaro's for the first time on a rainy and cold Friday night and it was the perfect spot for a dinner with friends. I enjoyed a DELICIOUS martini, our amazing server made it himself at the bar and it was exactly to my liking. Our table of four all ordered burgers, because that's the menu item that we've always heard about, and they did not disappoint. So huge, flavorful from the perfect seasoning and the nutty char, and the bun was soft and complementary to the patty. I personally tried the Kelly burger with mushrooms, caramelized onion, bacon, and a smoked Gouda. I had the works of lettuce, tomato, and pickles, plus dijon mustard and mayo. I selected home fries as my side, and they were so good! Tessaro's doesn't have a fryer so all sides are either roasted or grilled or in a salad format, I tasted my husband's coleslaw and it was tangy and old school and very tasty. The trout was really good and the home fries probably the best i have ever had. As far as the food I give Tessera's 5 stars. The waitress was really nice and moved as fast as she could, But unfortunately the place was mobbed and there were only 2 on duty and she was probably doing twice the normal amount of tables. It was also rib special night so they were very apologetic and said they were short staffed and that it was crazy busy besides. I would definitely go there again just not on rib night. I went here with two cousins and my Grandma while visiting family in Pittsburgh recently. Tessaro's has a nice reputation as a solid neighborhood grill but I was very disappointed. Let's get the positive out of the way first: The burgers are pretty big and fairly tasty, so if you want a big burger maybe this is your place. Everything else was just not very appetizing. I got a bowl of chili that was essentially a large tub of thick marinara sauce. No flavor, couldn't even taste the meat, and only a few small kidney beans. I also got a veggie kabob, which was a plate full of uncooked zucchini, mushrooms, etc., also with no flavor. Some of them were so undercooked they were room temperature. Maybe the moral of this story is don't go to a burger joint and get two dishes that don't feature meat! On the plus side, they give you free refills on soda, so my teenage cousins enjoyed far too many glasses of Mountain Dew. read more

This is a classic Pittsburgh/Bloomfield Little Italy kind of restaurant. The food was OK. I ordered the grilled kebabs and grilled veggies and it was 10/10. My friend ordered the fish that was on special and it 100% tasted and smelled spoiled/rotten. Mind you it was the end of the day and they were about 30 min from closing but if the fish isn't fresh you should just NOT serve it. Drinks were great and the service was great (they removed the fish from the bill) but my friend left hungry and that's just sad. I thought the food was good, but I am not sure what all the hype is about... I visited here with some friends the other night and I ordered their bacon/blue burger cooked medium with a side of their home fries. I thought the burger itself was pretty good but the bun was pretty lacking and a bit soggy actually from the burger grease. I would have preferred a bun that had a little more sturdiness to it. The bacon was ok but nothing to write home about and the blue cheese added a nice flavor to the burger. I have never had home fries with a burger before as I am used to ordering these with breakfast but I thought having these with a burger was a cool and unusual twist. I will say that the prices are a bit high for a burger from here as $16 for a burger and home fries is a bit much for a burger that is not being made with exceptional meat. I'd always wanted to check out Pitts-Town. Since trek ain't like a walk in a park, I needed a reason to be headed in that direction to make the pilgrimage. Place is cool. Ok, so now I totally made you wanna spring for this place and the town, let me tell you about the food. Menu is good! Your typical American stuff! If you cannot find what you like on this gritty town's restaurant menu, you probably don't have a pulse. I'm a huge BURGER fan! I'll take a bacon cheeseburger over penne vodka sauce any day of the week! Wait staff is attentive. Food is good! I went for Bacon / Blu Cheese (dry). None of that chicken wing sauce type bullshit for me. Gimme the good stuff! Lots of toppings / condiments choices. I had to ask the waitress twice. Thats because my head was stuck up my ass trying to figure out which burger to order. My fault totally. Poor waitress. But no worries, I made it up the end. This place was amazing! I highly recommend everyone going and trying this place out! They are known for their burgers and ribs. The food was so incredible. They have ribs on Thursday and the beef bbq ribs were so juicy and flavorful. Literally cooked to perfection. I recommend getting the 1/2 rack; I got the 1/4 and regretted it because it was a little bit small. Their burgers were thick, juicy, and amazing. I wish they added more toppings on their burgers. Don't get the steak; it was def Not worth the price. Very expensive for a small portion and not as tasty. Overall, The price is a little bit expensive but I believe you are getting what you paid for. Questions & Answers Q) How does one fully cook a 3/4" thick burger medium well in 3 minutes? A) Maybe pre-cook them and then microwave them when ordered. Q) Why do buns fall apart and appear hard and cold? A) They are old and have been kept either frozen on in a cold box to save money. Q) Why does a slice of cheese not melt on a burger and appear rubbery? A) Maybe the burgers were microwaved and then a cold slice of cheese was slapped on. If you microwave the burger with the cheese on it will be completely ruined so better to apply after the re-heat. Q) What does it mean when your tomato slice is mushy and soft? A) Usually indicates old tomato close to rotting. Q) When home fries are greasy and burnt, what would that indicate? A) Usually a sign that they were leftover from an earlier service or day and over cooked. I only ate a single small piece of potato and asked the server to take it all back and remove from my bill. The manager removed the charge for my wife's burger and charged me only half for mine so technically I ended up paying $.50 for a burger I didn't touch and a single piece of greasy potato. Q) Was this a bad night for a good place or is in indicative of a older restaurant trying to compete with all the new and excellent places in an up and coming area by cutting costs via inferior ingredients.
