These guys handled the installation of the panel and conduit to my Tesla powerwall. The images say all that needs to be said about the quality of their work. They lied to me when they said running the conduit through the attic would be impossible (as originally planned) on the day of installation. They said they will have to wrap it around the outside of the house and not to worry about it because it'll be hardly noticeable. I took their word for it, but figured they would have at least done a professional job and ran the conduit along the roof instead of in plain sight. They didn't even attempt to install it correctly. What's worse is that they stand by their work. I've been dealing with Tesla support to resolve this matter and these guys decided to go silent. It's been 4 months since I originally filed the complaint, right after it was installed, requesting that they install it properly. If you consider hiring them for your solar/powerwall installation needs, just know that they stand by their work highlighted in these photos. Needless to say, they like to cut corners. Speaking of cutting corners, I highly advise that if for whatever reason you decide to work with them, that you hire an independent electrician to audit their work. They effectively derated my system by putting everything behind a 90 amp breaker, even though in the permit (which I had to fetch myself from the city) it clearly stated there was to be no main rerate. You can't trust the city/county inspectors, because they say it and passed it. No one advised me that they derated my system. read more

The service before and including the install was perfect. Then they completely abandoned me. I started in April, it's now June over 100 degrees and they cannot even tell me when it will work. Two neighbors of mine went with Sunrun and are up and enjoying savings and great service. Not me, they don't even give me updates. We have had our panels for about three years now. The installation was great, we were quite happy with them. However, they did not install bird guards, which I think should be a given. About a year and a half ago we started noticing bird waste in our backyard, right under our windows, basically from when you step out into our yard. I went next door to look at our roof and was shocked at the amount of bird excrement. It seemed as if every bird in Stockton had decided underneath our solar panels was the perfect nesting spot. YUCK!!!! I called Solar City and they were very apologetic and said they would send someone out to clean it up and install bird guards. I waited and waited - I called and called. It took them much longer than it should have but eventually they came and cleaned it up (or we thought??) and installed the bird guards. We haven't heard a bird up there since. However, they came to our house about 3 months ago and wanted to look at it. They looked for quite awhile and explained something to me that I had no idea what they were talking about. Then about a month later they came back, different guy, he looked and looked and rang our bell. He says they want to replace our panels, they put the wrong panels on to begin with, they were very sorry, he then explained why, he was very nice and quite apologetic and said Solar City would reimburse us the cost savings we should have had all along. Course, how do we know what they is? We have to trust them. Then, they come last week to replace them. About 2 hours later the head guy rings our doorbell, explains that there is so much bird excrement on our roof Tesla will have to send someone out to clean it up and then they will be back. He said they needed hazmat suits to clean it up. I said "Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" several times and thanked him. Tesla called my husband yesterday. They said we are responsible for cleaning our roof. First, we wouldn't have bird excrement on our roof except for getting solar panels without bird guards and second, they are fixing a mistake THEY made. Can't they go the extra mile and clean our roof even if they feel they are not responsible for it because they messed up? It leaves me with a terrible, terrible feeling for Solar City. So I have been with solar City for around 3-4 years now. At first everything was great, than my roof started leaking. It has been a 6+ month pain in my ass trying to get my roof fixed. Once it was finally roofed again the roofing company they used decided to leave huge piles of trash in front of my house not to mention the hundreds of nails laying around my house. Not to mention my solar was off for months and now I'm going to have to pay a true up bill then wait 4 months to be reimbursed. If they do because they have told me I've over produced. Welll I do not know where to begin. We have been working on our solar project going on a year with Tesla. No one over there knows how to respond to E-mails for updates we have worked with some many different advisors because they rotate and there updates are one liners. So it began with the financial part and they do not do jointly with husband and wife it one or the other so we paid cash for our system 36 panels and 2 power walls has been and still is horrible experience. Submitting for permit it took them 3 times to submit the proper paperwork and 3 months because they were either missing items or package was not complete. Then it's install time they sent out a great team the first day though they missed there inspection. they could not install panels. They were set up to come out back to back days but did not, had to take another day off 2 days later a rookie team came out should of took them 1/2 day but it took all day, They told me they were done so on the weekend I went up there to find panels not plugged wires hanging on the tile under 4 rows of panels, large sags in panels, missing trim and several broken tile reported to Our advisors they had to get ahold of the installation crew they said it was complete. We sent them pictures 3 days later the head guy comes out and he was so embarrassed of how they were done 3 day later they came out to take panels up and reinstall mind you this is four days off from work for a 2 day install, so the inspector came and passed then we made a appointment for final inspection took another day off to fail final it had to go back to engineering and Tesla had to change out breakers because of wrong size 3 day later and another day off we had another inspection it passed we paid for our panels we are now passed the ninety days still do not have ok to power up we have submitted our paperwork 3 times now to PG&E. Needless to say we are in the middle of the COVID deal but still they can update us to what is happening. We really thought Tesla was a leader in solar but with the experience we had and or having not so good. I work for a builder and working with another solar company we completed 63 homes with solar and are all in operation. In the same amount of time the reason why we didn't go with them they did not offer the power walls. Hopefully soon we will be able to power up! Please beware of Tesla! read more

If I could give this company a negative star I would. They lied to us from the very beginning. First a male sales rep came to our home and told us it would be a very simple process. (Once you sign all of the online documents a week or two till install, 30 days later for inspection then they turn on the system) So first we had to sign the contracts for the process to begin. Then we had to sign all of the finance documents because we were purchasing the system (panels and battery backup system). We were assured that our system would be up and running before we made our first payment so not to worry. Then we were sent emails requesting we DocuSign more documents for them to begin construction but they didn't call us to let us know they sent emails so that fell behind. Then there were more documents, approvals etc. Finally (end of August) the panels were installed and the battery system was installed but we were told we could not turn it on until our local utility inspected it. That was around October 2017. It's now February 2018. We are still waiting. We wrote Tesla/SolarCity a letter in December asking them to follow through with their promises to us. We contacted PGE who advised us that Tesla/SolarCity never requested an inspection. We were contacted by Tesla/SolarCity letting us know they "accelerated" their request for an inspection. We were told 3-4 weeks before they could do the inspection and another 3-4 weeks before approval. We already started paying for the panels and we are still paying for PGE. We were told that if we paid the 10k rebate towards the panels our payments would stay $175. But if not then our payments would double to $350/month. Because the panels were not turned on before the end of 2017 we are not eligible for the rebate so now we have to come out of pocket 10K or pay $350/month for the panels. The very simple install and turning on of our system has turned into a nightmare. This will end up costing us a fortune. Please, please, please what ever you do don't sign any contract with ANY company if they are not willing to put their verbal promises in writing. Tesla/SolarCity screwed us in a big way. The negative reviews here are spot on. This company should be put out of business. They pretend they are responsive but they don't resolve anything. I have a record of all the online payments that were confirmed cleared by my bank to these people but found out that not all were applied to my account. They cheated and lied about it. I am close to suing these people if they failed to explain and compensate. If you are buying a house with the roof decorated with these people's product, PLEASE have it removed or find another house to buy. read more

DONT SIGN WITH SOLAR CITY!! Is the absolute honest truth! They lie all the way thru the process. A year ago we signed the papers the panels finally got put up on our home in April. They said they were waiting in MID. I caught them in another lie, MID was waiting for them to fax over the inspection report that has been done in April. After flipping out on the crooked lying rep Jerome magically the paperwork was faxed over. Was told once MID installed the meter all we had to do was flip 2 levers &a turn the knives to on. That did nothing. I called and they told me they had paperwork on their end that would take a couple weeks before it would be functioning and "saving" is money. I promise you, you will live to regret getting Solar if you go with Solar City. I called them and told them to get their crap off my house and repair my roof! We had Solarcity install panels on our home in Stockton. The installation went smoothly; however, there was no communication after the installation about when the system would be turned on. Additionally, a critical form wasn't sent to us and this caused significant delays in getting the system activated. Once activated, the system functioned fine. Our bills didn't decrease as dramatically as we had hoped, but they did go down. We sold this property in June and this has led to a nightmare with Solarcity. They didn't note our forwarding address for billing, even though it was on the real estate transaction paperwork. They didn't send the May bill. They added a late fee for us not paying a bill they didn't send. And, they billed us for "estimated usage" in June even though the power was shut off. They have written the contract so you have to pay even if the system doesn't work or your power is off due to a move. They ensure that they make money. I would never do business with this company again. read more

Thank You to my rep. Grant for getting me speedy service. Last night my nest thermostat stopped working for no reason. Yes I was very upset because the heat will trigger migraines in me and in my home it was 94 degrees. The migraine happened. Got 2 hrs of sleep. My original post was not complimentary to Solar City at all. But I am now editing and cancelling out what was said last night. I got 2 professionals in today, Joe and Brian, they fixed the theromostat the wiring was a bit faulty because when the kids from Livermore put the thermostat in, they did not do a good job. Now Joe and Brian are making sure that the panels are on correctly and that no mistakes are going to happen again. The kids from Livermore installed the panels but neglected to follow other procedures. Joe and Brian are here to correct that. They are my Solar City Angels. Thank you Solar City for sending men instead of boys to do the work. I even got taught how to turn the panels on which the Livermore boys of solar city were supposed to do. My experience with solar city has been sub par at best. Everything leading to the installation was wonderful. Now that I have everything installed it's been aggravating. The equipment has been on my roof for a month, still can't use them. I didn't know I was signing up for a part-time job. I've had to continually call in to follow up with solar city and pge. For 3 weeks pge has been asking for the same info, I even confrenced pge with solar city to get it moving. Solar city still hasn't sent it. Pge has been great throughout the whole process. I thought since Tesla bought solar city the customer service would be amazing. They never call back when they say they will. They keep saying they need to do this and that, but none of it is was pge says they need. I would recommend any other solar company at this point. I just read an article about Elon Musk having is whole roof being solar panels, guarantee he is still waiting to turn his system on too. read more

Had our panels from the old Solar City installed about 5 years ago. No problems. We lease from them and given that we're a high use home that started averaging 750 dollars a month in the summer we simply wanted a no out of pocket solution to cutting our electric bill. We got it with them. Basically created a flat rate that stays at around 225 for a 2900 sq foot home with pool, spa, etc. For our purposes it was well worth it. Even with the stupid PG&E true up the savings averages out to a flat rate saving you thousands in the long run. The system is monitored 24/7 and we've never had issues with the panels. Even used them for some rental properties and had even more savings. I know there are many more options for Solar in CA now even 5 years later but we've saved thousands of dollars leasing from them and don't have the hassle of having to maintain them etc. Since Tesla owns the panels they take care of em and they haven't failed. read more

It was indicated that after a year of panels being up they would make any adjustments by adding more panels if needed. We started out in October and things moved right along until we had a question on design and where told that we would be getting less panels than we had originally planned on. Then everything just sort of stopped no communication. The installation by Solar City was done in a very professional manner. Crews were on time and no problems at our home. We were told by Chad Schott, the sales rep, that the system Solar City would design would take care of all our consumption. We had provided 12 months worth of P G and E bills for Solar City to digest. Now that the system has been installed for 3 months, we have just received a bill from P G and E for $89.00. I contacted Paul Nelson with Solar City customer service who stated that we shouldn't be getting any bills from P G and E. I told him that Chad informed us that the only bill we should receive is a monthly connection charge of $10-20, which we were fine with. Paul Nelson told me he would look at our account and get back to me. He stated that based on the system installed we should not be getting any consumption bills from P G and E. I have not received any call back from Nelson. The only email I received was from a customer service rep in Nevada. In his email he proceeded to tell me that he didn't see anything wrong with our design. Here is what he wrote: "I hope this message finds you well! This is Alex Lyakhov with Solar City Customer Care, and I hope that you are having a terrific day! I understand that you reached out to us regarding a bill you received from your utility company. Regarding your utility bill, the amount of your bill depends on your system's estimated offset, your consumption and your system's performance. Your system offset indicates how much electricity our system is providing to you, as opposed to how much the utility is providing to you. We obtain your pre-solar utility bills, and then we create a system that will provide as close to 100% of your electricity as possible. Consumption also plays a very important role. If you consume more than what your system can produce, you will receive a charge from your utility for that extra power, even if your offset is at 100%. Remember, the offset was based on what you consumed historically. If your consumption changes, so does your offset. Please keep in mind that every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity from the panels is cheaper than every kWh of electricity from your utility company. If your system performance is less than optimal, this will also decrease your offset and result in a higher bill from your utility. Reasons that the system performance is less than optimal include extra shading from nearby trees or other objects, dust or dirt on the panels, or seasonal weather variations. I see that your system is performing very well. You can view this production by logging in to your MySolarCity account and clicking on PowerGuide. We also encourage customers to allow a full 12 month period to go by before analyzing savings because panels will naturally produce different amounts of electricity throughout the 4 seasons. Less electricity is produced in the winter because the sun is lower in the sky and the days are shorter. However, the opposite is true in the summer. The more electricity the panels produce, the less electricity you would have to buy from the utility company. Then when we bougth this home we want solarcity system again. we got a new panel which make more power the the old but same price from old panel. I even got promotion ($1000) for our system. How cool is that.Our sale person (marc) make process go very smooth. He even came on the day of install to make sure everything go smoothly. Our install crew (Stockton)work very knowledge and professional manner. The crew keep us update during the install. They finish install 16 panel in half day. DO NOT GO WITH SOLAR CITY. They are a huge scam company. We signed up for the lease program and our sales guy was great. Any issues we had, he would take care of. Our panels were installed in December after our Christmas lights were put up. Fast forward to the next year my husband is up on the roof installing the lights when he sees a bunch of broken tiles one the roof. Since we were still in touch with our rep.l ( I kept trying to refer people to him) I let him know and sent him pictures. He told me he would take care of it and have someone come out and fix them. No body ever came, so when I talked to him again he seemed upset no one had connected me and told me they would call me soon. This never happened. I called customer service and they said someone would call me and set up an appointment to come out. Yet, nothing. We eventually had a leak and had to pay to get it fixed. Fed up with them we removed the ppanels and had them pick them up which was a hassle as well. When their customer relations manager Adrian called me back she was extremely rude to me, would not let me ask a question and kept saying it was my fault for not contacting the right department. I asked him if I contact a solar city employee and they tell me they will take care of it then shouldn't the company be responsible and again she said no it was my fault. When I requested to speak to a supervisor she straight up told me no. I called customer service and they started she is the only one that I can talk to. Out of all the employees in that company she was the only one I could talk to? This company is horrible. I hope everyone reads their reviews before signing up. DONT DO IT!!!! read more

After researching multiple solar company's this past summer we signed up with solar city's twenty year lease.Only having the system for three months my wife was transferred to the central coast were we were not able to transfer the lease. I stipulated in the sale of our home that the buyer had to qualify to take over our lease. thanks to solar city and PMZ we were able to accept an offer with in one week.Solar city's transition team was fantastic.We do regret not being able to have solar at this time but i would do it all over again.No regrets sincerely satisfied customer. read more
