So although my review should be concerning, I encourage others to continue to support this business. I used to love this place for their fish and chips. Best fish in chips in Washington aside from the Fish Shack in Tacoma. My wife and I ordered fish and chips to go the other day. They were not as good as they used to be. Now Ivars has better fish in chips. Also, the tartar sauce gave me food poisoning. I won't elaborate why I know it was the tarter sauce but take my word for it. If I wasn't 100% sure I wouldn't make this claim in a review. If the owner reads this review, I encourage you to talk to your cooking staff and make them aware. They might be doing something to give themselves easy access to the tarter sauce during the dinner rush and in the process not storing it at the right temperature. I called and left a message to have the owner call me back but didn't hear back so leaving this information in a review. Now that I won't be eating at Terry's Kitchen I'll try to go to their pool room. At least I can order drinks to bring them some business that way. Tried this place for brunch. The place is located at a shopping center in Newport Hill neighborhood close to Newport Hills Swim & Tennis Club. Walked in and looks like there are a few locals, mostly elderly, who looked like they're regulars. Ample seating, and there's a semi-circle bar you can sit at and face the kitchen and bar staff. There are a couple of TV's playing sports. Pleasantly surprised to see a table ad about their lumpia! We had an order of pork lumpia (4 pieces), Loco Moco, and Terry's Kitchen Sink Mix-Up. The lumpia was a bit bland for my taste. It was crunchy, not oily. I wouldn't mind trying them again to see maybe it was just that day's batch. The Loco Moco was a bit bland as well. But it went well with Terry's Kitchen Sink Mix-Up which was fried rice with spam, bacon, and a whole lot of other ingredients. Portions were decent as well as price. Service was good. No. No no no no no. I came to this place five years ago when they first opened and it's no better today. We ordered our meal and my son's chicken strips came out later than everybody else's. When I open them up to call them off I saw that they were raw! The waitress took the food back to the kitchen, but it looks like the chef just threw the same food back into the fryer and cooked it longer. My poutine was definitely subpar and tasted like everything was just heated up. I don't understand how I paid $50 for three people to eat. I'm so frustrated. Have been going to Terrys for years. Great food and excellent services. And we kept ordering take-out during the pandemic to help supports. Our last three times have been a major disappointment. Tonight it took 25 minutes for our food to be delivered; and it was not a full Restaurant. Once we got our food it was cold. Sent it back and they microwaved it and delivered rubbery noodles. Not to mention there was a piece of plastic in the food. Last time the salmon was raw when I ordered the salmon Cesar salad.I get things happen but the unapologetic response was bothersome. I don't get to come very often since moving to Edmonds but they have all the comfort foods we grew up with and still love. I like to bring my brother here. It brings back lots of memories for him. He suffers from dementia so anything that brings back even a little bit of his memory is pretty wonderful. Tonight we ordered the garlic chicken wings, an order of the veggie lumpia and an order of the pork lumpia. We also ordered the Imperial Fried Rice with no meat, garlic spareribs, Kim chee and Mac salad. Ah, so good but our eyes were bigger than our stomachs! The last time I was here was pre covid so the menu is now limited due to covid but they had a couple of specials so we tried the brisket plate and then a side of lumpia and a side of wings. The brisket plate was really good. The wings and lumpia were ok but again I think it's just a supply and staffing issue because it's always been solid in the past. After reading so many great reviews and looking over the diverse menu, Terry's Kitchen definitely intrigued me. I finally had an opportunity to try it during a large family gathering. When walking in, the main dining area is pretty small, but we were directed though a doorway on the left into this huge party room! Although it was pretty dim and bare, there was plenty of seating, four billiard tables and a wide open area for mingling. The room was great for our private event of about 40 people. The hosts of the party had picked out four entree dishes, which the waitstaff set up in a buffet line. Out of this selection, my top pick was the Pork Chop in Mushroom Gravy. The pork was pretty lean and I enjoyed the smooth, creamy gravy. I heard raving reviews about their Garlic Chicken Wings, but unfortunately found them on the drier side and did not taste any hint of garlic. Although the outside skin was perfectly crispy, they seemed to have been just lightly salted and overall were pretty plain. Nevertheless, the wings appeared to be our party's favorite dish. I also tried the Chow Mein and Imperial Classic Fried Rice. I enjoyed the flavor of the chow mein which had some celery, onion and beef mixed in. However, I would have expected the fried rice to be more substantial. It just had some ground beef, onions and peppers sprinkled throughout, so unfortunately I didn't find it too memorable. Service was very personable and the waitstaff did a great job keeping the food replenished. They visited all the tables, picking up empty plates and made friendly conversation with the guests, encouraging us to go back for seconds. I would be open to giving Terry's Kitchen another try in their normal dining room setting to taste some other items off the menu. We have been wanting to come to this place for a long time, mainly because we loved the old South China Garlic Fried Chicken Wings and this place has the recipe. It did not disappoint. We had a party of 12 and we made a reservation for 5:30pm on a Friday (albeit the Friday after Christmas so we knew it would be a slow Friday (not indicative of other Fridays)). The service was good and the food was excellent. We ordered a round of drinks, the most notable of which were the Pomagranate Martini and the Hot Buttered Rum. Happy hour lasts until 6:00pm but it doesn't apply to cocktails (only to beer and wine). We ordered two plates of "SC Garlic Chicken Wings" as an appetizer and then ordered the following: fish & chips with cajun fries; the spinach salad; the hamburger; the chicken curry; the Katsu Curry; the T's combo plate with Imperial fried rice, chow mein and more SC fried chicken wings; and the prime rib french dip sandwich. Everyone was happy with their food. I'm giving this place 4 stars because it seems like its really dependable in terms of the quality of each of the dishes. Given the wide variety of what we ordered and the fact that everyone was happy with their food, it seems like a solid bet for good food every time. If you grew up in South Seattle and are craving some of the old time dishes like the wings or the Imperial Lanes fried rice, you might give this restaurant an extra star for the sake of nostalgia and that would be justified. read more

Terry's is just the spot!!! It's located in a little retail pocket in Newcastle, a total neighborhood spot! On our first venture we came for an early dinner. This weekend's collab between Terry's Kitchen and Seattle Fish Guys was fire! We got the salmon poke bowl and tuna poke bowl and both were delicious. One with brown rice, seaweed salad, squid salad, and crab (surimi) salad and the other with white rice and the sides. Plump pieces of fresh fish seasoned to perfection, and goes so well with everything else in the bowl. We're not going to make it to Hawaii anytime soon, but this poke bowl lets us make believe. What a fantastic collab! I hope they do it again soon. I also like that I can order ahead. I couldn't get through at 4pm so I called again at 4:05 and placed an order for 6:30. I also paid on the phone so they don't have to swipe my card. Then when it's time, I just pull up into the parking lot in front of the restaurant and a waiter runs out to ask for my name, brings back my order, and my credit card slip. Easy peasy! read more

Terry's Kitchen has an eclectic menu withAsian/Hawaiian comfort food tucked in a random shopping center in the middle of the wasteland that's Newport Hills's commercial center. It seemed to have awesome Yelp reviews, so off we went for brunch one weekend. Service and food was SO SLOW. Like, snails pace. The place was fairly busy when we arrived at noon and tables started freeing up about 10mins later. We ordered the garlic chicken wings, grilled cheese & spam with tots, and the loco moco. The wings came out about 7-10mins after we ordered, but everything else arrived about an hour later, which is a LONG time to wait for some simple food. I mean, how long does it take to fry up some tots, grill a sandwich, and cook an egg?! Our server kept saying the kitchen was backed up, but literally nothing came out of there for a good 45mins except cinnamon rolls. The chicken wings were yummy. They were super hot, crispy, not greasy, and had just the right amount of garlic flavor. The grilled cheese was pretty basic and the loco moco, while tasty, was pretty one note. Our over easy egg mixed in perfectly and overall, we enjoyed it. Decent portion sizes and price, but I'm knocking off a star for how long we had to wait for our food. We were there for close to 2 hours when all was said and done. I was in the Seattle area for only one day and only had the chance to eat one meal. So glad I picked Terry's kitchen. What a great experience! The staff was fantastic. I asked my waitress what her favorite meal was and that's what I ordered, wasabi salmon and salad with sesame dressing. I've never complimented salad dressing before tonight. I finished with Haupai Coconut Cake, as recommended. Delicious. All portions were large and very filling. I asked who Terry was and was told he was in the kitchen cooking. I asked to meet him. Terry came out shortly and was a very nice man who took the time to talk to me about the restaurant and food. He invited me back on my next trip out here and to ask for him. Came for a visit today if you grew up in the south end of Seattle in the 70's -80's this is your place for comfort food that will remind you of places you frequented like Imperial Lanes and South China. Wr didn't get the wings reminiscent of South China on Beacon Hill or the Lime Freeze or Imperial rice from the old bowling alley haunt. It's one of those places you go and see family friends you haven't seen in ages.. Service was friendly and helpful. This is the second time I've been here. The first time was awhile ago, and though the food was not memorable, I couldn't remember what was wrong with it. Today I had a craving for blueberry pancakes. I remembered that I had a huge blueberry pancake. The pancakes are huge, as big as a dinner plate. They sell them in a short stack. I had asked could I buy one side, as opposed to the full order. Without doing any checking, the server told me "no." Okay, that's their decision. So I ordered the short stack, but could only eat one. I also ordered bacon, which I only took one bite of because it was very fatty and not crispy at all. The eggs were not fresh and appeared to be the yellow folded eggs. They tasted just like yolk. I would have maybe been able to remedy some of the issues but after the server brought the food, the next time I saw her was when she brought me the bill. I did complain about the bacon and eggs. She had the bill adjusted for bacon. I paid for the eggs. I will say that the blueberry pancake is good but there's no way one person can even eat a short stack so it's a waste of food and money. The other food was okay, and certainly nothing special enough to return for. Finally, the service was terrible. I chose this place for brunch since it had some great reviews and the menu looked interesting with a variety of items like comfort, Hawaiian, Chinese, Japanese and American. I had 7 people in my party and the waitress seated us in the back room which had some pool tables, TV's with the football game playing and equipment for catering. We were the table back there as they didn't have any space to seat us in the front area. We ordered chicken wings for appetizer. They came out piping hot, juicy and very tender. I think it would have tasted better if it had more flavor or a dipping sauce, but it was still good. The clam chowder was really creamy and had real big chunks of clams which I don't see often at other places. I didn't like the flavor as much as it seemed a little bland. The Kitchen Sink Mix-Up which is basically fried rice with hamburger meat, bacon, ham, hot links, eggs, onions and bell pepper. This was just okay. The bell pepper had a strong taste which overshadowed all the meats. I wouldn't order this again. The Hawk chicken fried steak was also ok as it wasn't as juicy and seemed a little dry. The potatoes and eggs were just fine as there's nothing too special about them. This dish could have been better if it had more gravy to soak the chicken fried steak in and gave it more flavor. The cod fish burger was crispy, hot and not greasy at all. The batter could have had more flavor, but the cole slaw and tartar sauce helped. I probably wouldn't go here again for brunch as it is just okay, but would want to come back to try their regular lunch and dinner menus to see how the food is. Then again when you look at the menu, you have no idea what is going on. Literally a smorgasbord of cuisines: Japanese, Chinese, Hawaiian, American, Italian..the list could go on. Nothing specific blew me out of the water. The chicken wings were standard. The Kitchen Sink fried rice is nice and greasy. The clam pasta appeared to have fresh clams, although could've used more seasoning. The lime freeze is pretty refreshing and big enough to share. Emphasis is on comfort food, all of which is easy enough to make yourself at home, but you're too lazy after a long work week.
