John Howie is a Bellevue staple! Great food and wine selection. Their Caesar is delicious, the tallow fries are nice and crispy, and the steak bites are marinated nicely. They don't have their classic flourless chocolate cake anymore but their new version has a great presentation with a chocolate dome that disintegrates with pour of house made caramel sauce! I love going for happy hour and half off wine Monday's.

Wow, loved everything....... The steak melts in your mouth, lobster tail was perfect as well! Staff had spot-on recommendations, the squash was delicious as a side. Loved the cozy lighting and comfy tables. Highly recommend if you are craving an amazing steak!

Amazing service!!! The waiter noticed that we were sharing everything so brought up the burger cut in halves. Also carefully packed all the leftovers For the food itself, the tenderloin appetizer was too salty (I suggest it to pair with a side of rice - not sure if it's feasible given it's a steak house); burger was extremely filling. I liked the salad dressing too Validated parking

My friend and I visited on a Monday around 5:30 p.m. We were seated at the bar since all the tables were already taken. I definitely recommend arriving early or making a reservation, as the entire space was full within the next 30 mins! We originally came for the Happy Hour (3-6 p.m.), but we ended up opting for the three-course meal, which was a fantastic decision. We did grab a red wine and a Manhattan from the Happy Hour menu, and both were great with our food. For our first course, we ordered the French Onion Soup and Caesar Salad. The French Onion Soup was comforting and perfect for the weather, though we agreed it was nothing particularly special. The Caesar Salad was solid; we especially liked the parmesan cheese and crunchy croutons. The second course was the standout: the steak. It was cooked perfectly and paired excellently with the creamy mashed potatoes. The asparagus was also cooked well, bringing the whole plate together beautifully. Our favorite course was dessert! The crème brûlée and chocolate cake were the perfect way to wrap up the meal. The staff were patient and checked in on us multiple times throughout the evening. The restaurant itself is very clean. It's located on the second floor at The Bravern; you'll need to go through the main entrance to get to it. Note they do already take an automatic service charge. Overall, it was a great dining experience with a fantastic three-course option.

One of my favorite dining experiences in Bellevue. While the steaks at Daniel's Broiler feel like ones I could make myself from a local grocery store, the steaks here feel like ones you really need to go outside for. Amazing temperature, and cooked perfectly. Besides the steak, the wedge salad was the best I've ever had. Yes it's doused in sauce and has cured bacon pieces in it, so it's not healthy by any standard, but it was very tasty and I was very glad I ordered it. The dessert for me was way too heavy, but I imagine if I were 20 lbs heavier I'd enjoy it more. The bartender was very funny and also very welcoming. He made my experience way better than I originally expected it to be. There were also some regulars that came in and were entertaining to listen to. This place does come at a premium though, it is very very expensive, and maybe due to just it being one of the top restaurants in the Bellevue area.

First time coming here, was not disappointed at all. Service was fantastic. Food was amazing my steak was delicious and the French onion soup was fabulous, it had the traditional bread and cheese balance that I look for in this type of soup along with the right balance of salt. For dessert was the Olympic Mountain Ice Cream... mind blown it was absolutely amazing. We will be back for round two very soon.

The entirety of our experience at John Howie's was absolutely amazing, the food was delectable, our service was fun and friendly, and the views were beautiful inside and out.

Great experience, first time trying this restaurant. Menu features many steak options you can't go wrong with any . Ambiance suited for friendly get-togethers or work dinners as well as good set ups for date nights . Service was prompt , airing on the impatient side , friendly and helpful however . Food was spot on , steak made to perfection and sides were top notch . Definitely recommend giving Thai place a shot .

Went here to try out their restaurant week special and it was beginning to end a great experience. We also added the bone marrow a la carte. It's roasted well and bursting with flavor. I would definitely order this again. The wedge salad I don't think is on the regular menu however came with thick cured pieces of bacon and nice dressing. We shared one wagyu sirloin and one filet mignon. Both were cooked perfection to medium rare and rare. Incredibly tender with enough of the quality that you don't need to dip it in much extra sauce. The mashed potatoes were our least favorite with less flavor. The service was overall attentive however they did forget a couple things like our sparkling water and our crème brûlée dessert took longer than expected. We had to remind them we were still waiting. The crème brûlée was a tad too soft and not fully set. The waiter gave us the sparkling water On the house as an apology which was nice to keep up with the par of this place. The bar was noisy and lively and the dining area is a separate area.

One of my colleagues had a friend who recommended this spot- it was a little hard to find for our cab driver, and so I'd recommend getting dropped off by the Prada store loop and taking the escalator up. When you walk in, you can see they have a Whiskey bar separate from the restaurant, which was tempting but we focused on our work meal. Started with a pear kamikaze drink, and ordered their bread service. All kinds of options, something for everyone! Brian, our server, was super helpful, friendly, professional. The people there pride themselves on killer food, but also killer service. My water was never less than half full. My colleagues went with the tuna tartare, and the shrimp with habanero sauce. I opted for the lobster bisque. Never had such large chunks of lobster in any place I've been to, so it was so pleasing. Delicious and rich, this was hard not to ask for another bowl. I ordered the filet, larger size and got peppercorn style. Normally I do not eat a ton of meat and have leftovers but this was executed perfectly. My colleagues both ordered the glacier- 4 oz of prime, and 4 oz of American Wagyu. We had a side of the beef tallow fries, with Parmesan and truffle aioli. Talk about addictive. I literally had to turn the bowl away from my reach so I wouldn't eat any more. The table next to us got the table side bananas foster for dessert- looked great but I was stuffed. The other table got the table side Ceasar, which also is one of my favorites but you need two for an order. I spent 20 years in Chicago and this was one of the best cooked and executed meals I've ever had. It may be worth flying here from GA just to eat and look at the view (can see Mt Ranier) from our dining area. Thanks to Brian and the team for making our last evening in Seattle (rode from downtown to Bellevue for this meal) so memorable. Now I'm spoiled. Must visit!

Came here with coworkers for an end-of-year celebration. Everything we had was amazing. But first... parking. Yes a little confusing, but they have detailed instructions on their website. FWIW, we drove around until we found the amethyst elevators. Amethyst is purple BTW. Those took us straight to the restaurant. Restaurant validates. We stuck with the First Seating menu and everything was well done (meaning done very well vs. hard meat). Very fancy spot so we felt better dressed up but I don't think its completely necessary. Since its fancy, the portions aren't huge. They definitely go for quality vs. quantity just to set expectations here. The presentation was well done though and each element brought something to the meal. They have an extensive wine list and I believe a full bar (although we stuck with wine at our table). Maybe next time I'll explore some of their whiskies. Overall we had a fantastic time over wine and a good meal. Excellent upscale spot for a celebratory meal or fine dining night out.

My brother in law recommended their happy hours as the burgers are decent grade beef and good price. Went with a few friends, using 2 $50 gift cards that I got from Costco for $79.99, and a $20 off your first time at John Howie (text from their website). 4 HH dishes came out to $100. 20% service charge automatically added to each bill. Happy hour is open seating and you just walk in. Drinks are good price! ($9-11). Food is bougie and actually decently sized, plus quality. Very upscale feel (at the luxury shopping center). Parking is free up to 6 hours with validation.

    Can you BYO wine?

You can but you will pay a corkage fee. Last I was there it was $30 but with the price of inflation it is probably higher. I would call and confirm with the restaurant.

Is there any rules about what you can order? For instance, can you come and just get dessert?

There's no rules about what you can order. You can certainly order just dessert.

    Is this a safe area?

Safe? From what? It is absolutely not safe to your checking account. Your funds will be quickly depleted if you’re not mindful of all the luxury shops. It is not safe for your waistline as the food is delicious. But if you’re wondering safety for… Read more

Anything for kids at this place?

Yes! My brother loved the kids burger (it's huge!) with fries, and loved the beechers Mac n cheese as well.

We have a reservation coming up and I'm a bit confused about the 20% service charge that's automatically added on , is this on top of a tip or is this like replaces it?

They don’t expect you to tip, but the service charge won’t go solely to your server either. The restaurants retains 100% of the service charge to help pay “competitive wages”. I put that in quotes because I’m clueless what competitive wages mean for… Read more

I noticed a few restaurants have limited amounts of the Japanese A5 Wagyu. Is it guaranteed that it will be available for a 7:30pm dinner, or do I need to reserve it early? Thanks!

It's not guaranteed, I would recommended calling the restaurant to see what they can do.

What do you recommend for take-out?

I recommend you see if you can get take-out at all first. I called on my birthday and they said they were too busy to do take-out. Killed my evening, for sure.

Does this place serve halal steak? Specially the Australia beef is it halal?

Yes, there is an option for halal steak. Not all steaks are halal. Only a few.

Can we bring kids for happy hour?

Kids can go in the restaurant not the bar area

How much time would you allow for dinner? Obviously it can be discretionary but I just wonder if dinner is a drawn out process.

If you eat in the dining room, 2+ hours. We actually prefer eating in the bar, frequently for lunch and dinner, and an hour is plenty.

Does the Happy Hour Monday-Sunday (3:00-6:00pm) include the whole restaurant or just the bar? Just wondering as a minor! :)

Unfortunately, you have to be 21 and over to be in the Bar area. You can, however, order their Juicy Lucy Burger I’m the restaurant area. You just can’t take advantage of the Happy Hour deals.

Is John Howie good for solo diners?

When I dine solo I eat in the bar area. They have high chairs, low chairs for two and four, and some comfortable chairs plus the bar itself. When the main restaurant is open the full menu is available in the bar area in addition to the bar menu.… Read more

The opposite of a smash burger. Put some seasoning on the patties. Smush them to create more surface area for the seasoning. The bacon was undercooked and chewy, but the onions were perfect. I took a cooking class at a respected college on onions so I appreciate good onions. Also, I ordered it without sauce. The menu described it as "drive-in" sauce, but the cook said he didn't know what was in it. Instead of no sauce, he put a bunch of mustard on my burger. I ordered no sauce! I've worked in or for restaurants my entire life so I know better than to ever do something like that to a customer. Ever. The fries were the worst part of the experience. They were so undercooked they were soggy and a little nasty oily from whatever they put on them. They were cut way too thick for how little they cooked them, but with the extra oil and being undercooked, they were pretty darn good rewarmed in my air fryer. I'm not a Brussels sprout fan, but my friend substituted them for the fries for a reasonable $4. She really liked them. The only one of us that didn't have the burger had the king salmon. It looked really good, but my friend said it was tough. The piece he gave to me might as well been from a can. Also, it had way too much acetic acid on it I guess in an attempt to make it less tough. Their selection of beer is terrible, but to be fair whiskey is in the name. The beer was $9 for a Coors Light clone. That's too much for a beer that was flat from a glass that wasn't clean enough and from lines that tasted like they weren't cleaned often enough for the beer to form bubbles.

Roquette was a surprisingly small space with a wonderful vibe serving up "destination" bar-worthy cocktails. It reminded me of some of the neighborhood gem cocktail bars that I'd frequented on the East Coast. I grabbed a seat at the bar. Roquette's lineup of cocktails were varied in flavor profile using a wide range of spirits. They also served non-alcoholic offerings which looked equally intriguing as their boozy selections. I started off with the 99 Problems ($28), which, unfortunately, I forgot to note what was in the drink. It was boozy, clever, inventive, and most importantly delicious. My second drink was the Imperium Old Fashioned ($24) made with Westland Whiskey "Roquette" Barrel, Clement Cask Strength Rhum, Old Delicious Apple Brandy, Pineapple, and Spice. It was an excellent, boozy, balanced update to the classic Old Fashioned. Although I went with drinks off their menu, I have no doubt that any of their skilled bar professionals could've crafted me a wonderful cocktail if I had simply requested a classic or something on the fly based on my choice of spirit and desired flavor profile. Yes, the prices on the two drinks I ordered were pretty steep, but they were comparable to prices I've paid in Las Vegas. Plus, I don't have a problem with paying a premium for a well-made cocktail made with premium ingredients in a comfortable, welcoming setting (the drunken guy next to me who tried to engage with me in a political discussion excluded). Bottom-line: Roquette was a revelation. It served up two of the best cocktails that I've had this year.
