The server we had was very helpful in regard to navigating the menu. Food was really good but honestly have had better mixture of flavors from other sushi chefs at other places. Overall experience was wonderful and I recommend stopping by to enjoy the sensual ambiance! read more

TenTen - Japanese Near Me - Austin, Texas

We made reservations at TenTen and I was really nervous because we never take our toddler to nice restaurants because 1) he has too many food allergies 2) he's a toddler and he might start screaming or crying out of nowhere and disturb other people's meal. But, our baby did good! They gave him plain rice and he was a happy camper. We were seated in a nice large booth and socially distanced from others. The main reason I picked TenTen was so hubby and I can have the A5 wagyu--and omg--it was SO good. We shared the A5 wagyu strip and every bite was buttery deliciousness. What I didn't expect was how much I enjoyed the Hamachi Carpaccio with the Black Truffle (we ordered 3 of them!) Everything we ordered was good but those two were definitely the highlights of our meal. The rest of what we ordered: Charred Edamame, King Crab Croquette, Toro with Caviar, Otoro, Sashimi-Chef's Choice, Nigiri-Chef's Choice. This was our favorite meal during our week long stay in Austin. It was definitely a splurge meal but worth it! read more

Very fun atmosphere and cool interior design. Some things I thought were overpriced for what it was offering like $30 miso salmon, but other things were delicious and well priced like the hamachi carpaccio. Surprised the waiter couldn't split bill for us. The funniest part of TenTen is the difference in bathrooms. Men's bathroom has no selfie light. Women's bathroom has huge selfie lights. Dining area was a fun place to people watch with lots of characters haha. read more

7 Months ago this place was on fire, it was so good, but ever since they lost their head chef this place tastes like tofu, well unless you like tofu... everything was just blah. For 2 people the bill was over 200, which is fine, but the portion sizes were tiny. And here's another example, I asked for their most popular drink which was lychee and they brought it out with no lychee, they said they didn't have any. Come on TenTen, gonna need to change the name to OneOne read more

The food and service were really disappointing. We eat a lot of sushi and the sushi at TenTen was bad. We asked our server for recommendations and no one in our group of 4 liked any of the items. The staff seemed disinterested. The decor and lighting were ok but there was no energy the night we were there. read more

Always have loved this restaurant. Not anymore! Food was bland, no flavor at all. All recommendations were dissapointing. We ordered a couple of our go tos also, including the Lychee Martini. They didn't even have the Lychee garnish! The bartender said the chef had changed? Won't be going back. read more

Food was mediocre and lacked passion/skill. Would of been good if I was dining at a sushi track. But your trying to present the image of a big city/up scale sushi experience.......far from that in quality and presentation. At your table you are greeted with cheap chop sticks you would get for take out or grocery store sushi! Cocktails were not balanced in flavors. Sushi was of low grade. Gyoza was soggy and bland! I assume they just buy frozen gyoza and fry them in the pan. Atmosphere was great if I was going to the club or Vegas. Not a place for foodies or In all honesty anyone, don't go you can definitely find a better place in Austin! read more

We won't be returning. The service was spotty - slow, annoying and downright puzzling. The server explained every portion of the menu (starters, sashimi, nigiri - it's pretty self-explanatory), and the delivery order was off: sashimi was brought out last and the miso soup third??? Also, the fish was generally either bland or tasted like old fish. I was so disappointed to sit there eating the pickled ginger to get rid of the bad taste, when I'd have preferred to go down the road to Whole Foods and pick up their ready-to-go sushi and have a better and cheaper meal. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. Requested a reservation days in advance and never got a response. Tried to call several times day of without a response. We drove 30 mins., paid for parking, just to find out that they would not accommodate us. Apparently they don't even bother to respond to reservations if they won't seat you. Their manager was across the street at Devil May Care which this Chicago group apparently also owns (how do you manage a restaurant when you're...not there?) No business cards, no contact information - the hostess all but said "get out, you're wasting my time" You can tell this is not a local group that cares about it's patrons or community. We'll continue frequenting Uchi and Uchiko where we've never been treated so poorly. read more

Tenten is now one of my favorite Asian fusion restaurants in Austin. We originally went to get drinks but ended up ordering a bunch of their appetizers and small plates and we loved every single one of them. The Chicken Karaage, in particular, was very delicious! 10/10 recommend. read more

Wow. Just wow. The fact that I haven't know about this place earlier is beside me. It's fantastic. Every single thing was great- the ambiance, the service, the food, and the drinks!! I don't think there's anything I can get from here that isn't good- I tried everything on the happy hour menu besides the the toro hand roll and the chicken small plates. Already booking my next trip. This is my new favorite spot, especially when my friends are here from out of town! read more

We had the most delicious meal! Big thanks to our waiter, Dalton, who made the best recommendation and provided excellent service. The food and drinks were delicious and we loved everything we ate. Dalton suggested pairing the egg nigiri with the wagyu nigiri for a "steak and eggs" bite and it was phenomenal. In addition to the food pictured, we had the salmon maki which was also delicious. We also highly recommend the matcha crème brûlée, and for drinks, the Kyoto smoke and cucumber water were our favorites. read more

This review is purely based on the dishes we had at TenTen in an effort to spare the wallets of my fellow Austin foodies. I will say, the environment of this place is pretty nice, a bit loud, but upscale and romantic. We spent $170 for a pretty disappointing meal, and I'll preface this by saying that we are more than willing to spend good money on a good meal/dining experience. I'm always looking for an Uchiko-comparable restaurant, and when I saw this place open, I thought I'd get that. We started with some nigiri. Kampachi nigiri was a lovely bite - just a bit truffle-y. The toro was also good but not amazing. The $10/piece Waygu was good but not worth the $20 we dropped on it for 2 pieces - more rubbery than I expected. The hamachi carpaccio - If you are a die hard fan of truffle, this is for you. Truffle is a very overpowering, can't-get-this-taste-out-of-my-mouth flavor. The truffle flavor, to me, was so overwhelming. I feel like truffle is way overdone, and some restaurants think this is a way to fancy up a dish. Soto is also guilty of the overuse of truffle - though, I would take Soto over this place any day. Personally, I would've preferred for the yuzu dressing to shine through. The menu describes the dish as thinly sliced hamachi with yuzu dressing and fresh truffle. However, what the menu does not say is that they douse the hamachi in truffle oil (or it's incorporated into the dressing). Either way, they should describe it as a truffle dressing because the yuzu was undetectable. The king crab maki. God. That. Sucked. $19 on one of the most boring rolls. Plus, there were a ton of shells in the roll. Krab + Granny Smith apple. That's all she wrote for that roll. Nothing else. We were getting nervous at this point that we wouldn't get full and would walk away disappointed, so we added chicken karaage to our order, because how can you possibly mess up fried chicken? They spent more time molding the chicken into unappetizing rectangles than they did on the actual taste of the dish. The presentation was ok, but the taste was like factory-produced chicken. I think I prefer Tyson or Wendy's chicken nuggies over tenten's rendition. Lastly, we got the octopus and potato dish. Also disappointing. Just flat and nothing special about it. Perla's has a fantastic octopus and patatas bravas dish that you should save your money for over this overcooked, blah dish. Cocktails were just okay. I hardly write reviews, but I really felt it was my civic duty to share my experience. If you are a lover of Uchiko/Uchi, I hate to tell ya, this place doesn't even come close. You love truffle and would bathe in it? You love flat dishes that try to check all the boxes by frying their potatoes in duck fat and adding bacon bits where it just doesn't quite fit? This place is for you. I guess what could I expect for a sushi place on west sixth? Also, do not have even think you can redeem your night at the bar across the street - Devil May Care. Good god, come to find out, it's the same hospitality group. Bartender couldn't make an old fashioned. I'm done. read more

Too expensive for the price. Very mid level sushi and small portions. Better sushi other places.

Another "high end" sushi restaurant. A restaurant to be seen not for the quality of food. Trying to be another Uchi - high price, all about the presentation not the quality at high prices. Chefs not qualified as Sushi Chefs. They just throw together the rolls-they are just food prep. staff Not likely to return. Many neighbors locally owned and true sushi chefs. Google a true quality sushi chefs. You'll understand. read more

Austin has a lot to offer but when it comes to high quality sushi, it's lacking in options. Tenten brings that and much more! Service & atmosphere: Everyone from the host to our waiter was very nice and attentive. Our waiter gave some very honest (and thorough) recommendations! The restaurant itself is beautiful. You can tell that they put a lot of thought into the setup and decor of the place. Food: We started off with the miso soup which was lovely especially because it had king trumpet mushroom bits in it. Next came the scallop maki. This didn't start out as my favourite but the more bites I took the better it got. The texture of the scallop contrasting with the truffle is actually quite refreshing. After that we got two toro nigiris, the premium and the regular (?) one. The regular one didn't wow my boyfriend but he loved the premium one which was topped with caviar. I found both to be excellent because of the quality of the toro! For our last three dishes we got the half chicken, hamachi carpaccio and the octopus. The half chicken is very interesting...it's almost like a deconstructed chicken. It wasn't my favourite but my boyfriend loved it. It is very tender and flavourful! The octopus and potatoes were very nice, I do think it was a tiny bit chewy. And finally the most popular item, the carpaccio. I must say that it didn't woo me! It is very refreshing and the truffle is lovely but there's almost something missing in it. It's still something you must try! Overall it's an incredible restaurant and makes for an amazing date night. Tenten is adding some life to the Austin food scene! read more

Amazing experience. Some of the best Japanese I've ever had. The edamame was really something else - really outstanding - a highlight for sure. The Brussels sprouts were also incredible. Spent one night in Austin flying through. My husband found this place on yelp. My first thought was, I really don't want to go out to eat. I'd rather just go to sleep! I am soooooo happy he made me go out! The restaurant was such a cool, fun, cozy and elegant place. Yes, a place can be all of those things at once! The service and the food were amazing! I went here the day after Valentine's day, and maybe that's why they were very busy, but we were lucky enough to find a table! Unfortunately, it was a bar-style tabletop and not a full table, so it was a little cramped, but the food made up for it all. They made sure to bring the food to us one by one so we didn't feel cramped, and every dish we got was sooo good! We ordered the chicken skewers, scallop maki, hokkai maki, pork belly, and hamachi carpaccio. All of this was around $90, so it's really not that bad considering the quality of the sushi and food. I would say it's one of the freshest sushi I've ever had! I would love to come back once my wallet allows me to again read more

I ordered the pre fixe Easter dinner for my roommate and I and it was perfect. The meal was packaged well so that my sides weren't soaked in the short rib juices, but you could totally pour them on there if you wanted, so good! The walnut carrot cake dessert was a perfectly sweet way to end the meal. Totally felt like I got my money's worth and it felt good supporting a local restaurant during these hard times. They even put a cute note in my bag. I ate everything before I could take a pic otherwise I'd include that in here too. read more

TenTen - Cute note they put in the bag with my dinner. - Japanese Near Me - Austin, Texas

Good urban take on Japanese food! My boyfriend and I always like to try out new places in Austin so when a new Japanese restaurant opened, we made our way there on a Thursday- not crowded. We had the miso soup with tofu, wakame, and trumpet mushroom- yum! grilled butternut squash with black garlic and kale, did not disappoint. The scallop shiso and kombu leche de tigre was like a tangy crudo-very good! And the octopus with potatoes, japanese sausage, and garlic soy was fantastic! We aslo did the safe spicy tuna with serrano and rice pearl and the salmon and hamachi toro Nigri. For drinks we had Tokyo cowgirl and yuzu picante, guess which one Jon had.... Over all, fantastic staff! Great chef, and good vibe. read more

I have been walking by the restaurant for months watching the progress. So needless to say I was super excited and it did not disappoint. No valet so we parked across the street. Inside of the restaurant feels like a cozy cave or at least the walls do. We tried chicken kabobs, some veggies, nigiri, sashimi, pork belly and the shrimp big plate. The fish were all cut perfectly. The truffle sauce is heavenly. The pork tasted like it was braised for days. My only gripe was whoever was working the grill as the chicken and shrimp were a bit over. read more

I had the opportunity to dine at TenTen on their opening night. The staff were friendly and professional and the ambience was inviting. I ordered the Chicken Kara-age, three servings of sashimi, the octopus plate, Hamachi Carpaccio and a dessert I cannot pronounce. Each dish was fresh, well prepared, and flavorful. The octopus was cooked perfectly with a nice savory char to it. The sashimi melted in my mouth. The servings here are small and pricey so it would be a good place to save for a special occasion. I enjoyed my experience and was impressed how well they did on their first night. read more

This place will be a staple in Austin, mark my words!!!! This is a late post but since I have a lot of time on my hands now I'm yelping up lol. From the time I was greeted at the door until I left, I felt such a sense of hospitality. My fiancé and I visited this place on a Saturday and it was busy with great energy in the air. That didn't stop the owner and the chef from coming over to our table to check up on us separately. The servers knowledge of the food and recommendations was impressive. Austin has been needing a restaurant like this for awhile. We started with the hamachi carpaccio that was a perfect blend of flavors. Then the kombu leche de tigre which I love because of the tartness and my love for ceviche. Next we had the KING CRAB leg which was the highlight of my night. I LOVE CRAB and this leg was one of the best I ever had, for this one you have to just experience the experience, I don't want to ruin it for you. After those delights we dove into the rolls. First we started with the BBQ Toro roll that just melted in your mouth. Then the Hokkai which was very clean and fresh. Our main entrees were the Scallops and A5 Wagyu. The Scallops were perfectly cooked and amazing. The winner of this "experience" was the A5 Wagyu, which as you know is the best of the best when it comes to steaks. The smooth texture and richness of its fat taste as if I was eating gold! Im ecstatic that we have this in our back yard and just found out that they are doing togo food now because of the whole quarantine. Going to try them out this weekend and Ill let y'all know how delicious it is. Cheers, Eric read more

Finally, a quality Japanese restaurant in downtown Austin. Something the area has been lacking for a while; especially if you're planning on going out for some drinks afterwards. The vibe of this place is on point and the food is exceptional. My girlfriend and I started with the charred edamame, pork gyoza and the chicken garage; all had great flavors. The wabi sabi cocktails were a perfect pair. We then moved on to the sushi section and had the spicy tuna, bbq toro, scallop and a5 wagyu. Again, all great. I made reservations at TenTen for my birthday. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation and were sat immediately, which is rare at many restaurants recently. We were familiar with the menu, but our server was great at going over the menu with us and giving recommendations. We had a bit of a difficult table as two people had different food allergies. While our server was on top of making sure the precautions were made, the kitchen staff did not, which is why there are 4 stars instead of 5. We know the kitchen staff was made aware of the allergies because when a runner delivered our food he asked who had the allergy, which was the person getting the food, and they had to take it back. We had to return multiple dishes for having sesame seeds on them, although the allergy was made clear. Usually, with something as serious as a food allergy error, I would give fewer stars but the server handled the situation with grace and patience. read more
