My friend and I dined here for a late lunch. The space was modern looking with light colors and some pops of color throughout. The friend I came with got the Ramen, informing our waiter she has a severe dairy and fish allergy. After she was served, the waiter returned to let us know there was milk in the broth and took it away. I believe this was preventable and am thankful that she only tried 1 spoonful. The waitress tried her best to accommodate my friend by offering a custom made broth, but my friend ended up ordering something else. It was Happy Hour when we went, so some of the smaller menu items were half off. From those options, I selected the Shrimp Tempura Roll. For my entree, I ordered the Korean BBQ Rice Bowl. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was tasty with satisfyingly crispy, light, and tender shrimp. The Korean BBQ beef was mixed with onion, green onion, sesame seeds, and egg over the rice. I thought that the egg would be cooked, but instead, it was raw egg yolk. I didn't mind too much, as I stirred it into the hot rice. The BBQ Beef was tender and well seasoned, with the onion adding a fresh touch. I would've liked to have more veggies in there, since the meat and rice were such a heavy, hearty dish. Service was good. Our waitress was friendly and everything came out in a timely manner. Prices were reasonable. I would give this place another chance to try the Mega Ramen, consisting of chashu pork and shrimp tempura.

$23 omurice was good value bc it's a generous portion (us 3 split) and comes w katsu takoyaki was also fresh - can taste the fresh octopus and bonito. yellowtail jalapeño with truffle yuzu was also solid Favorite Dishes: omurice, takoyaki, yellowtail truffle jalapeño!

My college friend and I met up at Tenjou for a quick lunch last Monday. It's close to the office, and I heard good things about their food, particularly the omurice. OMURICE - 23 I haven't had a ton of omurice, but this was easily the best I've had, and pretty affordable too. No fancy rose or tornado shaping here -- just the classic bloop in the middle, sliced open, then flop! The black pepper sauce was chef's kiss, and the fried rice (with onions, mushroom, and chicken) was super flavorful. It also came with a small cutlet of chicken katsu on the side, which was fine but nothing special. GYU BEEF DON - 20 Very large portion, and we ended up with half leftover since we prioritized on finishing the omurice. It was solid but not particularly memorable, felt like something I could replicate at home. The beef was a bit chewy, and the rice leaned a little too sticky. Other than that, it was well-seasoned and the sauce was flavorful. Overall, generous portions and a great lunch spot near the office. I'd highly recommend the omurice alone, and personally, I could probably split it into two meals, which is a really good deal -- only 11.50 per meal! Crazy steal in NYC.

Decent casual Japanese food with modern decor and good service. Was able to walk in without a res for dinner and got seated on the second floor which had a nice airy feel but stairs were steep. I was optimistic since the first floor was full. Clientele seemed to be mostly 20s. We ordered agedashi tofu, seaweed salad, ramen, and omurice with pork. All items were good so I'd recommend as a casual place for food on an everyday occasion but necessarily destination worthy. Give it a try if you get bored of the usual suspects by madison square park for a quick bite

Super cute restaurant in Chelsea!! Great service and super yummy omurice. Loved the matcha cocktail too!

First time trying Tenjou and everything was so yummy! I had the omurice and they cut it and pour the sauce on it table side which was really cool. Our server was also very kind and made sure to double check all the ingredients for my friend who is gluten free. She was very thorough & recommended the items that would be safe. The restaurant space is beautiful too!!

What a nice surprise as we walked into the spacious restaurant with nice decor. It's before noon so it wasn't crowded. Decided on the lunch set - tonkotsu ramen, yakitori chicken and matcha pudding with red bean. Ramen soup hit the spot in a cold winter day. Chicken was tender and flavorful. Matcha pudding was light but had a good dense texture. Highly recommend it for a large group or just individual dining. Looks like there is seating upstairs as well.

I'd more accurately give this a 3.5 but am rounding down when you factor in value. I eyed this place in a prime location on 23rd and 5th next to Eataly and the Lego store with suspicion. The menu was just too long, covering vastly different categories like sushi, donburi, and ramen all on a single menu. Yes it's all Japanese food, but typically good Japanese restaurants focus on just one. This place is filled with mostly tourists too, but I walked by enough times to give in to my curiosity just once. While the place was full on the Saturday afternoon I visited, we were seated right away, got our orders taken, and were served pretty quickly. The omurice was cut tableside and had the right runny texture. The chicken katsu that came on the side was made of what might've been thigh meat which is not my favorite, since I still feel new to eating meat and get the meat ick. But the rice under the egg was surprisingly flavorful and buttery. The special rolls we ordered, one with shrimp tempura, salmon, and tuna and another with spicy tuna, avocado, and cream cheese were served warmer than what I'm used to with sushi. I suppose it's because there were a lot of fried elements in these rolls, but it threw us off a little. All the dishes were not bad overall but two rolls and two bowls after tax and tip was nearly a hundred bucks. I guess that's par for the course for a place like this but I will promptly forget this meal as soon as I'm done writing this review.

Tenjou at their usual price I would give a 4 stars but I think Tenjou for their Happy Hour and Lunch Set deals, they are a 5 stars since it makes the rolls and lunch options much more affordable, especially for the area. Service is pretty quick even during the busier dining hours and the ambiance is lively and pretty casual as there are many friend groups and families to be seen dining here.

Rly good happy hour spot! Solid Thai ice tea and we loved the edamame the best. The takoyaki and classic rolls were great too. The crispy rice had too much rice but would get everything else again! Super clean and calm inside which we liked.

i've definitely had better ramen back at home. was nice given it was cold outside but broth was bland and the chicken was just not good. i don't know why the grilled chicken is served in such big chunks. taste clashed with the rest of the ingredients too. interior was nice and servers were just okay. they were accomodating with substitutions. would recommend a reservation if going in the evening with more than two individuals.

I've been to the Ichiran in East Williamsburg but found this location to be more hectic and touristy, naturally. I just defaulted to Ichiran's suggested levels for everything which made it fast and easy. Once you're at your assigned cubbyhole, you can hang your coat up on the wall behind you and fill up your water cup at the machine also behind you. You don't even see the face of the person who brings out the ramen which gives the whole process a mysterious bank teller vibe. With all this, the classic tonkotsu ramen ($23) with slender noodles nearly gets overshadowed, but don't fret since it's fantastic. I believe when you're done, you just get up and leave. Surprisingly, one of the instructional posters does not go into this.

When you walk into the restaurant, you pre-order at the touchscreen to the right of the entrance and later when you're seated you give the order receipts to the server at your window. The food at this location is obviously going to be pricier than it is in Japan (came out to around $60 for 2 people), but it is SO worth it as you can't get Ichiran anywhere else besides in Japan.

For a restaurant, especially one serving customizable ramen dishes, with a allergy list post on the wall by the counter where I sat at B1, a little flexibility or empathy toward food allergies would go a long way. The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, which made the overall dining experience uncomfortable. Customer service matters just as much as the food, and sadly this visit fell short. The smashed cucumber was good. Spicy dumpling was good. Ramen broth was light, not as rich or flavorful as others.
