Ten Ren is hands down my favorite boba place of all time. I've been to both locations (this one and the one in Cupertino) and I've never been disappointed. I usually like to get their regular teas rather than the milk teas, as they can sometimes be watery. My go to drinks are the honey lemon green tea with aloe and the white peach boba green tea. I like how I can taste the tea flavor and that their drinks aren't overly sweet. Their prices aren't bad either. The menu is really big too, so there's a lot of options for you. However, at this location you order first at the counter on the right and pay after on the left. It was a little confusing for me when I went the first time, but the system works and you get your drink soon after you pay so I'm not mad at it! My only con is the distance I have to drive to get here, but I don't mind the drive to get good boba! read more

Finally visited this place and it was okay. Got my usual black milk tea with boba. But it was way too sweet for me to enjoy. However the tea taste was there but overall way too sweet. Ten Ren itself is a Taiwanese company specializing in teas, and has been around for decades. Although my mom used to frequent their establishments in her childhood, this is my first time. A popular tea spot, Ten Ren offers quality loose-leaves for purchase, though most come for their pearl tea drinks. Employees move quickly and efficiently, but expect ~10 min wait. Ten Ren is also located in a notoriously busy and packed plaza, so avoid coming during meal hours to avoid parking issues! As a sucker for chrysanthemum tea (similar to chamomile but better in my opinion), I had Honey Chrysanthemum Tea w/pearls while a friend had Lychee Yogurt Green Tea w/pearls. Both were quite refreshing and the pearls were of pleasing chewiness. Aside--If you're unfamiliar with yogurt teas, they taste like Yakult or Calpico soft drinks, which you can find at most Asian markets. We popped in here for our boba fix after lunch in the same strip mall. We forgot to adjust the sweetness level of our drinks as usual but my matcha soy latte was thankfully not too sweet--which suggests that Ten Ren Tea does quality drinks that don't feature sugar by default. That Ten Ren actually sells a wide variety of real loose leaf tea makes it seems like a more legit tea place, though I don't know if that actually has an effect on the boba. They do have some more medicinal options on the menu such as the ginseng tea, which has a tree bark-y and slightly bitter, but not entirely bad, flavor. read more

One of my go to boba places, and a true hole in the wall. It's a standard tea shop that also has a counter for a variety of teas, milk teas, and fruit slush selections. The tea is really good quality and is not masked even in a milk tea. My go to drinks are usually a cup Ten Wu tea with honey for days I want a cold crisp cup of ice tea and for when I want to treat myself, it has to be the osmanthus milk tea with boba. They do have a virtual stamp card available at the pay counter for collection if you become a regular! So FYI on that. read more

You can really taste the tea in it and tell it wasn't made with powder. My drink was made perfectly and the workers were so nice to me too. Don't be intimidated when you come in here, though. Very friendly ladies working in here and they also have a stamp program so buy 9, get 1 free. The boba is soft, chewy, and not overly sweet. South Bay legend. Best in the area. They don't need to have the latest boba trends (e.g., foam, salted cheese, flavored boba) to stay relevant. It's been my favorite of all time since I was in middle school. I know I look like a baby, but I'm not in college anymore... Haha. The Bay Area is over saturated with trendy shops that provide very high quality ingredients (think Boba Guys, TeCo, the SoCal franchises, etc). I wanted to get some depression-induced boba, but realized that I forgot my card. They don't take Apple pay, and all I had was a $5 bill in my pocket. With the prices of "fancy" boba these days, I was worried that my bill wouldn't even cover a large drink with 1 topping. I managed to order a large oolong milk tea with pearls for $4.50 :-) With that said... the quality has changed since I was a teen. It's still a tea shop, so I trust that it's good. But it was a bummer to see so much of it is pre-packaged. Didn't hear any whisking or stirring, which are usually signs of very fresh drinks and quality mixing. The old couple still runs the shop. So glad that I found another tea shop near my workplace. I tried Ten Ren on Wolfe road before and love their tea. This place is neater and cleaner compared to the other location. Menu wasn't hard to read and they even have top ten drinks and new items on the board. I ordered roasted oolong tea with grass jelly. I forgot to modify the sweetness level. In fact, it's located in one of the biggest Asian plaza in the area, the Sunnyhills shopping center or as a lot of people know it, the Lion market plaza. I would come here quite often after eating some dim sum at Moongate nearby.For ~$3.25-4 a drink, you can't go wrong with anything. My go to drink is the jasmine milk tea with pearls. Their boba here is one of the best in the Bay IMO. It's consistently soft, chewy and the perfect amount of sweet. Some other drinks that are worth trying are: - Mango green tea - Passionfruit tea - Taro milk tea - Honey green tea/honey lemon green tea This place also sells legit tea leaves. If you have ever been to an Asian tea shop, you may be familiar with the teas being labeled with numbers. This place has just that. The last time I came here, my mom bought number 313, the King Oolong tea. It has quickly become one of my favorite tea to drink at home. This small shop is located in a plaza that's somewhat hard to find. It took some driving and searching to actually find the store. My first impression when I came here was that I walked into an herbal medicine store, but then you look to the right! There's a little counter to order the milk teas, and drinks! The person in the counter was so helpful, recommending drinks! (It seems as if this place is family owned) The setting was really peaceful and serene, but there was no seating area. We ordered 4 drinks, and it came out in a short amount of time. I tried the: + Taro milk tea (4/5 stars): The tea flavor really shined the most, but on the other hand it was a little bit watery. They sure didn't skimp on the boba, which is great! The boba was more on the chewy side, and a little too soft for my taste. On the brightside, it's made fresh! I love teas! Hot, cold, slushy, or in between...this place does it right. I never really appreciated tea until I have gone to know Ten Ren Tea. I have often visited the Cupertino location until BF took me to this one. They really know how to make their teas. One of my favorites is the peach tea with aloe vera and or red bean. It tastes so good and flavorful without the artificial flavor you often taste in other places. Although it is out of the way, we would make a trip just to have one of their teas It is that good! Who would've thought three older Asian ladies that run this shop could make such a mean cup of milk tea?! The black milk tea was SO RICH AND FLAVORFUL, I was taken aback during my first sip of heaven (so was my boyfriend)!! IMO, we are such milk tea critics that it's really hard to please us, but this place nailed it! The black milk tea had such a familiarity to HK-styled milk teas: this is the real legit stuff. It's also made with REAL tea, none of that powder you find elsewhere nowadays! The grass jelly was pretty impressive, and went well with the milk tea. As a kid I used to severely dislike any type of herbal / tea stores because I always thought they smelled funny and when my mom used to drag me into this store, it was no different. Okay perhaps I was too quick to judge but at that time in my younger years, my version of tea was "boba" and my version of older people tea was the kind that came piping hot burning your tongue in small little cups. They also have seasonal drinks that they usually display on the counter. Stamp cards: The location has a stamp card, where you every drink you drink you purchase, you receive a stamp. When you redeem up to 10 stamps per you get a free drink. Also they offer Double stamps per drink during their "Happy Hour!" This location happy hour is from Monday-Friday during 4pm-8pm(closing). Tea offerings: Ten Ren sells a variety of healthy teas choices and the people that work there are knowledgeable about the products. Service: This is one of the friendliest family owned businesses that I have seen. All of them of super sweet and prompt with service. They will help you to choose the right type of tea to your taste preference if you're new to the place. FYI: there is no seating area, so just remember that is a place to shop for tea products and get yourself a refreshing tea drink. Overall, the only disappointment I have is that they close early. When you walk into Ten Ren, you can immediately see barrels of tea lined up along the back as well as numerous boxes behind the counters. The drinks are here are good--not overly sweet and refreshing. They use powder for their taro milk tea, so not very authentic. Tastes a-ok. It's pretty decent, but I love it when shops actually use real taro. I have yet to find a shop that makes a good taro drink using powder. The honey lemon aloe with aiyu jelly is superb. It's light and cool. The chunks of aiyu blends so well with the concoction. I would recommend getting your drinks without the pearls--the pearls are chewy with no flavor. An alternative would be their aloe, aiyu, and red bean add ins--anything but pearls. They appear to use real fruit when they can, or at least some preserves. Occasionally they will have specials which uses fruits that are in season. A plus for watching them shake your drink on the spot, rather than ladled from a bucket. read more

My boba radar was going off right after dinner, a tell-tale sign it was time to try a new boba place (and hopefully a new favorite). Ten Ren was just a few miles away so my darling hubby indulged in my insatiable appetite and took me there. Located in a BUSY, BUSY plaza, I had to run in by myself while my poor sweetie drove around the lot a few times. The establishment isn't anything like your typical boba spots: no splashy seats, no colorful walls, and no cute cups. Ten Ren put all of its focus on authentic teas since half of their store was dedicated to shelves upon shelves of fresh tea leaves. I ordered the jasmine milk tea with grass jelly for only $3.50--cheaper than most places, but then again, the cups are smaller. I took one sip and was hit with a refreshing taste of strong jasmine tea. It's not milky or creamy like other places. The drink is more 80% tea and 20% milk, not exactly a beverage that will appease the sweet tooth, and yet still a great alternative for something a bit healthier. i may need to get sugar fix after, but Ten Ren was a-okay in my book. read more

The milk tea here was $2.50 and for 25 cents more, I got pearls so the grand total was $2.75. There were no seats inside but that's because this was an actual tea shop and it was reflected in the pearl milk tea. The actual tea flavor was in my drink and I'm not saying other places like Quickly/Tapioca Express etc. don't taste like tea. Those places do have the tea taste (to an extent) but this place had a way more distinct tea taste. As for the pearls, they were soft and chewy - not very starchy. Come to this place if you want natural tea flavored milk tea drinks. You will definitely tell the difference between this place and others like Quicklys. read more

I have been going to Ten Ren for milk tea since high school. This is my all time favorite place to get milk tea. The difference from other places like Fantasia, Quickley's Tapioca Express, etc. is that their milk tea is pre-made, watered down, and sugary. The milk tea here actually tastes like tea! Amazing! My favorites to get are the milk tea and green milk tea. I'd stick to anything tea related here because that is what they are known for versus anything fruity. Also, it's good to note that you can get your drinks adjusted for sweetness. I've read other reviewers complaining their drinks were too sweet. You can ask to get your drinks with less sugar or even no sugar if that's what you prefer. I'm actually liking my milk teas without sugar these days. Remember to go during happy hour for double stamps! 10 stamps and you get a free drink. Happy Hour is between 4-8pm, Monday-Friday. Side note: I have learned that not all Ten Ren's are the same in taste and price and the location in Milpitas is hands down the best one! I put in my order after them, and turn to the cashier to pay. I hand them a card and he stamps it once. I look at him and asks if it's suppose to be 2 stamps for happy hour. He says no, it's past 6 o'clock. I check my phone. 6:01. Are you guys really that stingy? I mean I got there before 6, ordered at 6, and it was 6:01 when I was paying. Really?!?!? Chinese medicine shop? ...So I never thought twice about Ten Ren let alone even know the store name. My friend Alan wanted to get some tea so why not right?! We got there and again I was like..this is a milk tea store?? REALLY? Oh okay I guess I'll give it a shot. Turns out they make some great tasting tea! I ordered an average drink like I always do..Black Tea with boba. The thing is I can tell the better quality black tea from other not so great black tea and I can absolutely say this is quality tea! Well, I've been back to this place plenty of times, and I noticed the mean impatient drink lady that I was referring to in my last review is no longer there. Yippee! The drinks are also back to Ten Ren quality. Strong tea flavors, perfectly cooked boba. They have some nice people working there now, and the nice owners are still there and they're still very friendly to us every time we go. Honey green tea, lychee green tea, grapefruit green tea are some of our favorites. We go with the no sugar or 25% sugar options and the tea flavor really shines through. This is definitely our go-to spot for boba when we're in the area! read more

I have been going here since I tiny. Whenever my family went to Lion Market, my sister and I would beg to go get Milk tea. And when my aunt goes to China she always brings back Ten Ren Jasmine tea for us so my mom freezes it to extend it;s freshness. Anyways about the milk tea here...YOU WILL NEVER FIND BETTER IF YOU LIKE... 1) Good strong classic tea. 2) Grassjelly (THEY MAKE IT FRESH ERRYY-DAY), Aloe, Jellies, all the Asian exotic fix-ins 3) Mom & Pop businesses My sister doesn't really like pearls sometimes so she gets just the Jasmine Milk Tea and if your looking to cut calories this is the way to go. Now a HUGE factor for me and how I base all quality milk tea drinks is that tea is suppose to have a little bite and it shouldn't get lost in the milk. The milk is simply an add-in...an ENHANCEMENT to the tea. Which also brings me to say is that I greatly appreciate that they used condensed milk in the milk tea. There is such a huge difference between places that do this and places that don't (ie. Ten Ren vs. Tap-Ex). So with the use of condensed milk and quality tea...BAM you get amazing, delicious, sippable Ten Ren heaven. And in case you aren't convinced yet that I have been and will forever be a Ten Ren lifetime customer... Back in high school I was with my friends at the Tap-Ex a couple stores down. I got my drink but I was so unsatisfied that I walked over to Ten Ren and got myself a real Milk Tea! So I think it is safe to say I am a 200% fan of Ten Ren. *NOTE: They do have "Happy Hour" M-F 2pm-8pm which is double stamp time!
