    Dynamite Shrimp Bowl!
    Kelci S.

Deconstructed sushi bowl? Yes, please! We stumbled across Tempura Takeover's food truck at Trevors on McDowell Rd. We had no idea what to expect but we were curious to try something from their menu because of their IG photos. We decided to try the Dynamite Shrimp Bowl & it was fantastic. They take a little minute to prepare their meals, but the presentation is worth it. The crab meat and avocados were so fresh. The tempura was lightly battered so it wasn't overwhelming with the rice. Everything married so well together - It was delicious!

Came here twice - the first time they didn't have any lobster left. The service is friendly. Everything seems to be fried to order as the food comes out really hot. I've tried the shrimp fries ($16), shrimp toast ($10), lobster roll ($24), and the lobster fries ($21). They don't have any drinks so make sure to bring your own or you'll have to buy it at the concession nearby the golf range. The amount of shrimp/lobster in the food isn't a lot but it's enough to be satisfied although I wish more would've been put in. The shrimp toast especially was pretty good in its ratio. Everything is fried very well and the sauce is tasty as well. Overall, the food is very pricey, but I could see it being worth it once in a while. I would definitely recommend the shrimp over the lobster. I think something like lobster can stand on its own well and doesn't need to be fried as the flavor gets covered up. The shrimp can hold up well to being fried and it's cheaper as well.

All I can say is WOW!! I had the dynamite shrimp bowl and it was outstanding! It took about 30 minutes to get my food, but it was very much worth the wait ! The food was piping hot, the tempura shrimp was so perfectly crispy, and the sauce on top was the crown jewel. I will most definitely be back. I really hope to see this place become a permanent restaurant.

This is the best food I've ever had. I'm not exaggerating. I'm in love. Ahdana and Laney not only had the food out within 10 minutes of our order but also were so friendly and hospitable during the whole process. Literally the best food truck you'll find in AZ. Thanks guys! Best food in AZ! Would've took a pic of the food but it disappeared in my belly before I got a chance lol.

Tempura Takeover never misses! We came right at opening on Saturday and ordered the Dynamite Shrimp bowl, cleos shirmp roll, and the lobster fries. All 3 items packed with flavor. We try to try something different each time but we always have to reorder the lobster fries. Dynamite shrimp bowl comes with rice, dynamite shrimp, crab mix, slices of avocado and topped with sesame seeds. Something I wish I could eat for lunch every day! Cleos Shrimp roll is packed with lighted fried shrimp with dynamite sauce on top of a Hawaiian bun. Super delicious and she does not skimp out on the shrimp. Lobster fries full of umami and you just have to tried it yourself! Lobster came with an abundance lightly fried and mixed all together with the fries. Our staple each time we visit.

This was our first time visiting the place and I must say I was blown away by the presentation of every dish that came out from there. It is located in a gas station and I had no clue a gas station food can looked not only good but also taste good. Everything is made fresh from scratch so it takes some time but oh boy I should definitely give it to them everything was spot on, from seasoning to freshness to presentation. People might find it little expensive for a gas station food. But you should also get what kind of protein you are getting. The dish I ordered was tempura luxe with bun and sunny side up on top. The bread was nicely toasted in butter and the smell of butter was there on every bite of the bread. The protein was well cooked. Then came the sunny side up on top. Wow it was delight to watch and even more delightful to eat. Standing up to their tag line "Sophisticated Street Eatery". Definitely recommended and will come back for sure.

IF YOU HAVE NOT TRIED TEMPURA TAKEOVER YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!! This hidden gem is located inside the Mobil gas station off of Baseline Rd. I stumbled across Tempura Takeover one day on Instagram and had to check them out! I was greeted by the AMAZING chef & owner Donna! Tempura Takeover offers a variety of options from tempura shrimp tacos to lobsta rolls! My favs are definitely the Tokyo Shrimp Fries & the Sloppy Lobsta Roll! The fries are fully loaded with Tempura shrimp, teriyaki sauce, and the signature Takeover sauce! The lobsta roll is also AMAZING! The Hawaiian roll is so buttery and soft! I honestly could go on all day but you have to try for yourself you won't regret it! Grab your #TakeoverCrew and head in today!!

This gem is located inside the store of a gas station. But the quality of food and the way the food is presented is really too good! Can call it as good as a gourmet restaurant. As a vegetarian I didn't find anything on the menu hence 4 stars. They have the tempura avocado but it wasn't available when I went in. However, the lobster luxe ordered by my husband was delicious (his comments). Their presentation is beautiful and we are definitely returning for him and hopefully they add some vegan/vegetarian options by the time we visit next!

Tempura Takeover has simply became my favorite spot! It's located inside a mobile gas station but definitely do not let that deter you. You will be missing out. If I was not on a diet for my wedding, I would literally live here. Ahdana's food is just amazing. I told her this many times but her homemade sauces (takeover and garlic sauce) is what I dream about. You can order anything on the menu and know your food will taste out of this world! She does not skimp on the food either, the rolls and the tacos always come overflowing with lobster. Her togarashi tots are on point! Sometimes there is a wait but let me tell you, the wait is worth it! And especially if you think about it, Ahdana always makes the food fresh so you know she cares and it definitely translates in her food. She is such an amazing person, always smiling and welcoming. Definitely worth every penny.

Very friendly service, cool vibe in this place…read more Started with a round of vodka mojito and a bees knees. Both delicious. Apps were the Chinese long beans which very good and the avocado ragoon. They were crispy and tasty. The inside was a golden yellow which seemed a bit confusing for avocado but it still tasted great. It came with a sweet chill sauce and a pineapple mustard, both of which were great accompaniment. For dinner we split the shaking beef which was amazing. Tender beef. Loved the pickled red onions. We then splurged on the salted caramel gelato.

Let me start with a little tid bit about Downtown Gilbert. There is nothing really special about it…read moreoutside of the vibe is right. Always a lot of people there so it makes you want to be there. Restaurant wise they have really basic offerings. Places you can find in Mesa, and Tempe, and Scottsdale. Now.... What truly makes Downtown Gilbert special are the small shops that are hidden away from the "main strip". One of those places is Clever Koi. Hidden in the Parking lot space behind Shaq's Chicken spot is a small strip of shops. A book store, smoothie place, and my favorite Clever Koi. Our family has very different tastes when we move from one member to the next. So finding places that we all like gets tricky. Clever Koi makes that easy because we honestly have yet to run into something we don't like. Let's start with our favorite starter. The steamed buns (giggity). The pork belly is hands down phenomenal. An amazing bite that literally makes you want more and more. The lazy fries are just that, again pork belly is included, but that garlic aioli is what drives this dish. The tai salad is obviously classic. The short rib dumplings literally make you close your eyes and just say "Mmmmmm". My middle child is the hardest pallet to please at any restaurant as he only eats certain things, but the Chicken Katsu sandwich here is his second favorite chicken sandwich in all this world. The first time he ate it he spent the whole ride home raving about it. Mind you, we live in San Tan, so not a short ride. The shaking beef is always good. It has this firey kick that brings the heat upfront but does not linger. You cannot forget about the fried rice here. Rice is one of my weaknesses in life second only to pizza. Fried rice ranks right up there with my top favorite ways to eat rice and this ranks right up there with my favorite fried rice places. The main reason we come here is because of the noodles. Ramen, ramen, ramen. When you think of Ramen, I assure you this is what you are thinking of. The broth is oh so savory and reigns in the fresh veggies and proteins to meld them with the noodles for a flavor punch each time you have a mouthful. They have great drinks here as well, or so I've been told by the other adults I come here with. I always just get a sake and Sapporo so... LOL The service is always good here and we somehow always manage to miss the lunch or dinner rush which is awesome. All in all... this is by far my favorite dining spot in downtown Gilbert. Great food, great drinks, great service, great atmosphere, in the middle of a great little square. A must eat for me.

The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. I felt that the portion was good for a large meal, but my friend who got the chef's combo definitely had enough for leftovers.

While we were waiting they sat another 4 with us. We all expected dinner & a "show", but none of us expected the show we got. One of the staff started screaming at another staff member. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. I also watch all of the employees but one prepping the food without gloves. This used to be our go to place for, but now with all this issues this time, we will probably have to find a new place.

We were able to easily change it to 9 as two in our party couldn't make it anymore. We arrived around 9:45, was sat a little bit before 10pm and that's when the waiting began. Our server took our order for drinks & appetizers after about ~15 min of staring at our menus. Took another ~ 10 min for our waters/sodas to arrive. Took another ~10 min for the bar drinks after that. Was probably 35+ min after we sat down for her to take our actual entree order... by this time, it was past 11pm before the two plates of potstickers and two bowls of edamame were placed in front of us. The only item I enjoyed from those two items was the sauce for the potstickers. In my opinion, the edamame was undercooked and lacked flavor. Sea salt sprinkled on top is not enough seasoning. Now more waiting. We kept looking over at the sushi bar area and could see orders waiting to be delivered to different tables.. I had ordered the Restaurant Week dinner which consisted of three courses. I chose: Picasso Roll, Steak frites & double stack brownie for dessert. I'm only giving 2 stars because of the Picasso Roll and our server continuously apologized when she would deliver anything to the table, BUT she seemed to always be MIA. Maybe they were short staffed? Maybe a few people called in? Not one manager or lead came by the table to check on us. At this point we had lost track of the time. Half of our table used the cloth napkins as blankets since the air was blowing directly on our table. We asked our server if it something could be done about that & she said she would speak to the manager about it. *shrugging shoulders* MOST of our entrees arrived close to midnight (when the restaurant closes). The server said she would be back to deliver the baby back ribs and also bring hot sauce that someone in our party asked for. After at least a 10 min wait, my cousin ended up getting up and approached the sushi bar area to ask for sriracha herself. We also had to ask the hostess to check on the baby back ribs as our server again was MIA. When the plate was delivered, she didn't remember to bring any hot sauce. (It's ok, we're a self sufficient group at this point). My steak frites entree. Ummm, eh. The bearnaise sauce had no flavor. I really tried. I had some with each bite of my steak (I had to, the steak didn't have any flavor), but it didn't help. I ended up using the potsticker sauce the steak really needed some help. Due to the long wait, we decided we would just get our desserts to-go (three of us had either 'Taste of Kona' or the 'Restaurant Week' option & it came with it). Now that was another wait. We finally walked out of the restaurant around 12:35am. Oh lastly, two people ordered miso soup and that never arrived. My cousin approached the manager about the wait, the missing items and all he said was there was no excuse for the service. Not sure what he was able to take off the bill, but this visit surely tested all our patience. I definitely will NOT be back.
