Came in on a summer Monday afternoon right after having lunch. Shop was sprinkled with people doing work on their laptops. We were able to order right away and our orders were made immediately. Got an Enlightenment and a Iced Latte. Latte was standard and good. The Enlightenment, however, was so, so delicious. Even in over 100 degree weather we were glad we ordered it. Temple is one of my go to places to sit down to get work done, read a book, or do some quick weekly planning. The workers are all so kind and I never had a bad experience here. Modern interior with lots of natural lighting, it definitely feels like you aren't sitting indoors all day. It is small so it can feel claustrophobic when it's busy, but there is a lot of outdoor seating options along their storefront. My go-to is their matcha latte. I get it sweetened and it is the perfect amount every single time. They have a lot of different options for coffee as well which I have yet to get around to trying out more of their menu. This is a great choice for a COVID safe cafe, with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Though it was a bit busy in the morning, their employee's quick service kept the line moving. The interior was very clean and modern feeling, and seemed like a great place to study or work once that is more common again. The chocolate croissant was not very flakey and could have benefitted from being warmed up, so I wouldn't suggest getting it. BUT their coffee is another story. The almond milk latte was really smooth with a good balance of coffee and milk. The Mexican mocha was rich with a strong enough coffee flavor that it didn't just become a hot chocolate. The Wonderblend pour-over didn't have any bitterness or acidity, but still tasted pretty strong. I would highly recommend trying any of these drinks. Their presentation is also so dope! Temple offers a space for studying or socializing. Inside is usually pretty quiet with nothing but the sound of students furiously typing away, while outside is a different story, there are couples as well as large groups having great conversations on the cute patio area. I brought my friend here who is a huge coffee snob and she loved the atmosphere and her drink. Seating is a little weird here - you can basically only sit by yourself either at a long skinny table in the middle of the cafe or on the benches along the window. Service is really fast though! I love this Temple location. It's located further down third street than most of the businesses but really close to the extra parking. While I always look for a spot out front, I usually end up in the lot a bit further down. I feel like I've been lucky, because I've never experienced a long line here and the staff is always really nice and upbeat. I usually pick up a seasonal beverage and some coffee beans and sometimes I'll treat myself to the latest tumbler- I love their tumblers especially when they're by Miir. Don't forget to check out their pastries, there's always something yummy to add to your coffee run. Last time I got a giant chocolate chip cookie and a croissant on a whim (both delicious). Also, if you ever have questions or don't know what to order ask the baristas- they are so nice and helpful. I remember when I was a student and this Temple first opened in Davis and it was all the rave for its trendy interior and artisanal coffee blends. Yes, the coffee is top-notch, though a few drawbacks to other elements of the cafe: - Uncomfortable seating. The stools are not comfortable at all if you intend on staying for long periods (which is most often the case as it's a college town and students come here to study!) - The pricing is of course way up there as it is a Temple. A normal latte will place you at around 5 bucks or more. The pastries are also outrageously priced, at around $4 or $5 each depending on what you get. - The seating availability is always hit or miss, as it is again a college town and the cafes will get swarmed over especially by 11:00am on a weekend. Plan to get there early or late in the evening if you want a seat! read more
