Vegans and vegetarians beware. I checked Yelp first and Tejas had vegan options one at one point! I knew I was in trouble when I asked the server to help me order and he said, "first off, don't eat that salsa because it has chicken stock in it". Chicken stock in salsa!!! How many vegetarians have made this mistake??? I ordered some veggie fajitas and they literally, did not have any salsa or taco sauce besides the one with chicken stock. They offered me Tabasco. I swear I had some Taco Bell sauce in my purse I wanted to get out but didn't cause that would have been so so tacky. I just don't get how you don't have a vegetarian salsa in a Baja/Tex/Mex themed restaurant! Again, chicken stock in salsa??? I waited a week to write this and I'm still not over it. Also, I'm their beans have meat. Also, they said their rice but hard to trust at this point given the other culinary decisions and that include random animal products. Next time we will go across the street to Nora or to Veracruz. This place is so cute and has a lot of potential but their menu is not as diverse as the neighborhood it serves. The guac was fire. This place keeps it all Tejas all the time! Pretty much anything you order is sourced somewhere with in the lone star state, most of it being local. So you can support your taco habit and your community at the same time. The queso is cheesy goodness with tortilla chips but also a great dip for your curly fries, burgers or tacos. I've tried all of the non-breakfast tacos so far and they're all delicious. There are tasty drink options, including their thirst quenching prickly pear lemonade. Yum! I came across tejas on my Instagram page looking for a brunch location for my best friend and I for my birthday and I stumbled upon Tejas This hearty restaurant is located in bishop arts with a pretty pastel pink chairs outside there restaurant that is super eye catching The interior is also a delightful sight with there neon sign at the bar and the seatings. Service was phenomenal and the food were very flavorful. The carne asada to me was a bit on the salty side but overall presentation and taste was great. A friend who was visiting had asked what was going on in the Bishop Arts area so we headed that way and stumbled upon this place. It's near the end of all the area and looks fairly new. We walked in and got greeted and the lady was nice. She explained certain items on the menu (like their elote comes in a cup with a side of chips). I placed my order and decided to go with the prickly pear lemonade. She gave us a number and we took a seat. The prickly pear lemonade . . . I would recommend you asking to taste it before buying it. My frIend was going to get it howeber I told her to taste mine first and she was glad that she did. I said it tasted like it has cilantro in it, she said she thought it had cucumbers, however the lady at the counter swore it was just lemonade and prickly pear. I ended up adding some sweetener as it was tart. Now, the lady who brought out the food really should have stayed at home today. Her attitude SUCKED! I ordered a taco and elote and the cake to the table separately and she didn't say anything while dropping it off. When I said something to her, she said "it's coming" - okay, I thought you forgot! She dropped off sauces and we had to catch her to ask what each sauce was. Personally I wasn't impressed with any of them. I don't like cilantro and that's what the green one was. The red one was a salsa but it lacked flavor. I'm not a spicy person so I didn't even mess with the habanero or the mole. My taco was good, apparently I read the menu wrong and expected something else but hence why I won't complain about that. The elote was okay - I had to addd salt and the salsa to it. Went here after been turned away at the door because I didn't have a reservation on several occasions (even when they were not obviously busy. I am not a plan a casual dinner ahead kinda gal so it took me a while to finally get around to going. Boy was I disappointed. The service was good. The restaurant is obviously beautiful. The food was only OK. We had the famous tiny tacos and the carne asada fries. Neither were great. The tiny tacos were dry. The salsa was smoky if not hot and enjoy the chips and salsa. The carne fries were seasoned curly fries and that was just not great. The margarita on the rocks was honestly one of the worst I've ever had. It was like a warhead circa 1998. So sour, so tart, I asked for orange slices and simple syrup to help it along and it was still terrible. It was damn good!! The staff was nice, consistently walking around. We got 2 breakfast tacos, 1 brisket (the queso on this was blanco which I love) and 1 chorizo along with chicken quesadillas (it's an appetizer but def can be an entree with the size) and a side of cilantro rice! But the BEST PART about this place was the chips and salsa! The chips are seasoned and omg the salsa is hands down the best salsa I've ever had in my life and I eat at a lot of Tex Mex / Mexican restaurants everywhere. The food on the other hand was okay, which is the reason for only 3 stars. Also, we noticed throughout the night that people kept slipping on their slippery (what looks like polished cement) floors. We even witnessed two waitresses that dropped plates that night (as pictured). One plate landed right behind me and luckily the pieces didn't cut my leg. I hope that management sees this and really considers putting floor mats on these slippery floors because someone could get seriously hurt, employee or customer. read more

Came here on Brastille night, about 20 minutes before closing and sat at the bar. Our bartender was awesome! He started us out with some drinks (a margarita for my husband and a tropical sunshine for me). Let me tell you, best mocktail I've ever had! Although we arrived so late, the service was fabulous, our bartender was just the best. We also ordered the fajitas and although delicious the rice was subpar. Sakai was in point and ai was the tenderness of the steak. 4 stars for the food but 10 for the service! Wish I would have gotten the bartenders name, talk with curly hair. He was great! read more

Wanted to try these lovely dishes I see on other peoples post. But sadly they kitchen dont open til 5pm on Sundays an there wasnt any post on website stating that. This is such a cute spot! Hubs and I walked in about 15 minutes before closing and they didn't bat an eye at the fact that they were near closing time. Treated us very kindly and even suggested a favorite taco :) The tacos were on point!! And the tortillas were perfect! I love that they give you 4 different salsas to choose from to add the finishing touch to your tacos (my fav was the green salsa; hubs liked the red). Oh! And they serve breakfast tacos all day - that was my husbands favorite lol, followed by the brisket, then chicken. We also had the chips and queso. We both liked the flavor of the queso, but the consistency needs some work. It was way too thick and sticky-like. Don't judge us, but we also got the curly fries! After a morning of marathon shopping for a trip, my friend and I stopped at one of the newest spots in Bishop Arts. Serve street tacos, burgers and sides. I had the braised chicken tacos and he had the burger. Both meals were excellent, no downside here. For solid stars. Why the "3" star rating? I flew into Dallas to visit my friend one Thursday evening and when I asked what I wanted for dinner, I said tacos or Mexican. She gave me several options and I chose Tejas after looking at the menu. Since she lives nearby, we walked. When we arrived, we were told it would be about a 30-minute wait but we could wait at the bar. All tables in the restaurant were occupied, but there were several open tables on the patio; maybe they were short-staffed? So we went to the bar, which was also full, and stood near the end. The bartender asked if we'd like to order a drink while waiting. We wanted two sunset panthers, but he said it'd take about 5 minutes for the machine to finish freezing. We decided to wait since we had to wait anyway. A few minutes later, two people get up from the bar, so we sat down, had some chips and salsa, and started on our drinks. The chips and salsa were...different. The chips aren't your typical tortilla chips...they're thicker than usual with a unique taste. Not bad though. A few minutes later, we were able to sit at a table. Our server came and took our food orders. I got the brisket & queso tacos and my friend got one brisket & queso taco and one brisket & queso enchilada. Our food arrived in good timing and the tacos were absolutely delicious! This was my second time at Tejas. I was there last year and couldn't remember the experience which should've been a sign then. The frozen margaritas were good and the guacamole was decent once you got over the fact that there were giant chunks of avocado in it. It almost felt like they started the guac and we had to finish it table side. Everything else was just so-so. I had veggie fajitas and wasn't a fan of the sauce at all but was super hungry so I just went ahead and ate what I could since there wasn't much else I could order on the menu as a vegan. The flour tortillas were super good tho. The service was hit or miss. I feel like I watched our margaritas sit at the bar melting for a spell before they got to us. The ambiance is super cute though. Overall it isn't for me. I may come back for a drink and guac in hopes that I won't have to complete it myself.. but only if I'm in the area. This is our second time coming here and have loved it both times. It is a modern Mexican vibe. I got the skinny chicken fajitas which were amazing. The only difference is that it came with more vegetables and no rice and beans, the chicken was seasoned great and I am not usually big on seasonings. The beef quesadilla was the best quesadilla we've ever tried which is saying a lot. We sat on the patio which was not shaded and had no fans on a hot day so that was definitely not ideal and would not recommend. The service was okay but a little slow. If you're visiting first time here, just to let you know there's an open parking plot adjacent to the restaurant which is complementary. I arrived to my reservation on time and before we even get seated the girl tells us "you guys only have 90 minutes to eat" like what are you even talking about we havent even sat down yet and already setting us a timer. Then 30 minutes into eating they do last call on drinks after already taking forever to bring the first drinks out. I rush to eat my food as instructed because they took forever to bring it out. Only to have to wait 35 minutes for them to bring my tabs. Service-1 star Food -2 stars bean bland and rice bland.
