I think my expectations were just too high coming here, but this is still a very solid BBQ spot. This place had been on my BBQ bookmark list after it appeared on the Texas Monthly top spots list years ago, but never made it out here until now given it was so far from me in Tomball. I finally decided to spend a Saturday out here in old town Tomball, so made it a point to stop by. Line wasn't too bad the day I was there, although most of the seats were full during peak time on a Saturday. Brisket and beef rib were good - both well cooked and tender, although the smoke intensity and flavor could have been upped. Tasted better with the sauce. Overall B+/A-, which in Houston is very good considering the competition. Don't sleep on their chocolates - I bought a whole bunch on the way out, and they were all unique and delicious! Everyone who works there was incredibly friendly. All in all, a solid BBQ spot, and highly recommend checking it out if you are ever in Tomball.

Cute and slightly hidden gem, very clean and polished to make it look homey, service was fast and polite, food was amazing me and my family loved all of it. The sausage OMG AMAZING!

My affection for Tejas goes back many years now as evidenced by my previous reviews. Last weekend was my first visit in several years and that's the reason for my 3 star review. At one time, I thought of this as a 5 star experience. Tejas still retains its folksy atmosphere and is delightful to visit. Parking spaces are numerous in the lot across the street. The food still tastes pretty good too. However these prices have gotten ridiculous. Brisket here sells for $39 a pound. Yes I realize beef prices are very high and that part isn't their fault but then I know several other bbq eateries where it costs less. The side dishes are $5 each and not that large in content. Also since they don't offer combo's your bill can rise quickly. Another example I noticed is that a 1/2 chicken now costs $13.50. That would be $27 for a whole bird! Beef is very expensive but chicken shouldn't be that much. My meal of the half chicken, 2 sides and a soft drink with tax was almost $30. And then they ask for a tip at the counter where you order your food which is the business asking you to help pay their employees more $. Of course that is your decision. Yes the food is good tasting but overpriced due to reputation. However Tejas has become to expensive for me and that is why it has been at least 5 years since my last visit. I can go to Brisket House (for example) and get the same meal and save about $9. The good news is that they now stay open for dinner and that carrot soufflé side dish is still outstanding. It really is more like a dessert. I think I could just dine on that alone and be happy.

Super cute BBQ and chocolate shop in Old Town Tomball. The young lady helping me told me that this was the oldest house left in Tomball and they are using it quite well serving some unique barbecue items like chorizo smoked sausage with cheese links among the usual items found in a barbecue joint. Placed was jam-packed on a beautiful Friday, but everything moved quickly and efficiently and I didn't have to stand in line which is amazing in today's barbecue world. Naturally, as we have come to expect eating barbecue, it was expensive, but I really can't blame them for that since I know how much meat cost nowadays.

BBQ and chocolate Perfect for lunch. No long wait line when we came on Sunday. We appreciated the helpful staff. Local brewed beer.

Three years later and it's just as good as my memory remembered" Ever since I first had a taste of their burnt brisket ends, they've lived rent-free in my mind. I finally made it back after three years, and I'm happy to say the food is every bit as amazing as I remembered. The meat melts in your mouth. The BBQ here is so flavorful it doesn't even need sauce, and coming from someone who puts BBQ sauce on just about everything, that's saying a lot. Honestly, this place is better than your favorite BBQ spot. Think of it as the BBQ your favorite BBQ joint gets inspiration from (whether they realize it or not). We arrived around 11:30 on a Saturday, and the crowd wasn't too bad. The line moved quickly, and before we knew it, we were seated and diving into some of the best BBQ around. Watching my friend take his first bite made me smile. I could practically see the neurons firing as a grin spread across his face without him even realizing it. Then he made a comment about comparing this BBQ to his father's BBQ... let's just say I'm taking that one to the grave. The fact that food can be so good it sparks realizations about what you truly like (and maybe what you don't) says everything about the power of a great meal. Add in good company, open conversation, and Tejas BBQ... and you've got an experience worth remembering. I digress, Tejas you guys are doing a stellar job and I wall be back.

The Yelp listing might call this establishment "Tejas Chocolate Craftory", but it's also a local BBQ restaurant. My friend's family is picky when it comes to eating out after years of being apart of the restaurant business, but they love Tejas. You can smell the fresh and aromatic smokiness of meats even before you enter the restaurant (looks kind of like a ranch/cabin on the outside, and more like a chocolate store than BBQ, but trust me they do BBQ well). I'm not the biggest fan of Texas BBQ and don't necessarily look forward to it, but let me tell you, I wolfed down my lunch and ATE this past Sunday. The meats and sides were incredible. I was smiling after every bite. I genuinely wish I had a bigger appetite and stomach. BRISKET (1/2 POUND) - 19.50 We got a mix of lean and moist brisket. Even the lean was nice and tender, and I enjoyed eating it alongside with the moist brisket (which is fatty and juicy on its own). The BBQ adds more depth of flavor. I would recommend getting the brisket -- it's smoked very well. SAUSAGE: CHILE RELLENO - 10.50 The mix of the pepper and cheese was phenomenal, and each piece had me yearning for more because of how flavorful it was. Lowkey, this might have been my favorite because of how tasty it was. I think I ate like half of the sausage even though it was meant to be shared among 4 people. I would not skip out on this! PORK RIBS (1/2 RACK) - 18.50 This was so good. The meat was tender and fell off the bone easily. I only ate one rib, but my friend ate three because she loved it so much. It's flavorful and a reliable option if you're not sure what to get. BARBECUE SANDWICH: PULLED PORK - 13.50 They also gave us four slices of bread that we enjoyed some of the pulled pork with, where a whopping amount of the meat sat on a top bun and bottom bun. I enjoyed some of the pulled pork on the top bun and it was chef's kiss. The bun was perfect toasted, with a nice crunch upon the first bite before a chewy, fluffy texture. The pulled pork was delicious, and the BBQ sauce did wonders. CARROT SOUFFLE - 5.00 This was phenomenal. The texture was soft and the souffle not too sweet. This is not a side I often see in BBQ restaurants, and it's what my friend and her family raved about. It truly is good, and I wish we ordered more than just one side of carrot souffle. CORNBREAD CASSEROLE - 5.50 This was good, but probably my least favorite compared to everything else. It's not actually cornbread, but more of a baked egg casserole with some cornbread topping for a crust. This was more than enough food for the four of us, and I'm surprised we finished. It's not a cheap meal, but we enjoyed plenty of meat and some amazing sides. I highly recommend giving Tejas a try if you're in Tomball or somewhere close by. Don't sleep on that carrot souffle!!! You can buy a whole tray for 40-something dollars, which would be a great party item. It was probably the best sweet thing I've eaten for a long time.

Was in the area and saw there wasn't a huge line outside, so decided to finally knock this spot off the list. A moderate line inside moved quickly enough, all in all probably waited 20min total. We went ahead and did the full shebang - BBQ and chocolate. BBQ was certainly delicious, I thought their brisket was very flavorful and perfectly juicy vs char balanced. Their jalapeno cheese sausage was out of this world good and their potato salad was perfect. On the desserts front, I wasn't as taken with the chocolates as I would have expected, but I did appreciate that they were good. They have a ton of flavors, but on some it was tough to recognize the flavor over the base chocolate. Parking - street/lots around old town Tomball

We had lunch here today. I haven't been here in a while, but it didn't seem as crowded as it used to be. The food was good, but not the best I've had, and it seemed VERY expensive. I had 1/2 lb of brisket for $19.65, potato salad for $5.01, and a drink for ~$3.07. My wife had a chopped beef sandwich for $16.56 and a drink. The total came to $47.36. Tax added $3.91 to make it $51.27, then they apparently added a 15% "Service Fee", or $7.10 for a total of 58.27. I'm not sure what the Service Fee was, as there is no table service. I stood at the counter to order my meal. All in all, I don't like surprise service fees. I did not see a detail of the bill until after I had entered my credit card and asked for a printed receipt. It's also sad, because I almost always tip 20 to 25% - when it's my idea...

I feel like chocolatier and bbq joint evoke 2 very different images in my head and that's what makes this place so cool. Actually that, and the reason we were brought here - the carrot soufflé. We came at a bit of a late lunch hour but even though tejas has a rep for being good, there was no line, no wait, just a super nice restaurant with a lot of character with plenty of seating. The meat was all melt in your mouth, meaning it was A LOT and i was full within a couple of bites but they have lots of pickled veggies to bump up the acidity and make it all go down smooth. My favorite actually might have been the chile rellano sausage. And of course the carrot souffle which was so so good. Like i didn't know carrot could do that.

Great bbq, good chocolates, nice staff, reasonable prices. What's not to love?! Here in Texas, have to try the bbq. Looked up locations, and found a bbq pit with chocolate. So had to make the trek to this place to try them. Walked in and there was a chocolate display on the left and the bbq on the right. The server was very friendly and helped us through the menu. We got a good mix of meats to try. Brisket, sausage, burnt ends, ribs, and some Cole slaw and their carrot soufflé. Food came out rapidly, we got our seat and dug in. The north doesn't have bbq this good. We have spots, but they all tend to lean on Kansas City or the Carolina's. So you get thin vinegar sauces. This was dry rubbed, thick smoke and tender as heck bbq. The bbq had a nice spice to it, and everything was delicious. A special call out to the carrot soufflé, it was like a less sugary sweet potato pie, silky and very carrot forward. It was a great reprieve from the richness of the meat and a solid bite of food on its own. We did see a lot of locals opting for the baked potato, which was massive. One could easily feed the mightiest of appetites or a couple of regular folk. The chocolates were also three bite monsters. Sweet, good quality chocolate with ample fillings and decently priced. This is quite possibly the quintessential bbq joint, or at least will be my standard going forward. It's good food done well, good people, and they got dessert ready for you on the way out. Worth the trek

Visited this community icon for family lunch today after years of driving by and staring despondently at the long lines! Was relatively thinly attended today, at least when we visited 1/2 hr after opening. Crowds started arriving thereafter. Ordering from the menu was all family style and a-la carte. No platters on offer unlike at other BBQ places. Ordered Brisket, Chile Relleno Sausage Links, Pork Belly Burnt Ends, Loaded Baker with Sausage, Pinto Beans, and Dark Double Beck's to drink. A chilly winter's day - perfect for gloriousTX BBQ! Food arrived promptly and was very tasty/flavorful.Brisket was par for the course while the Sausages and Burnt Ends stole the day! Fantastic fare! Dined in the covered patio outside and the occasional chilly air coming through was most welcome. The restaurant originally started as a homemade Chocolate store and branched out to BBQ. Located off Main Street, with the restaurant entrance facing Elm Street in downtown Tomball, TX. Not cheap by any means - dropped over $200 for a party of five including tips, but well worth a visit!

As with most BBQ joints the bill was staggering. 1/4 pound pulled pork, 1/4 pound brisket, burnt ends, tacos and one side was $78 - too much food for two but not quite enough for three. Only the pulled pork was left over (we bought a lot to try thinking we'd have more left overs). The tacos were amazing and would have easily been enough for a meal - I would order next time or the amazing brisket & blue (subbing ranch) salad (not ordered this go around). The burnt ends - also amazing. The pulled pork and brisket were both fine in my opinion but neither thrilled me.

Ask the Community - Tejas Chocolate Craftory

    Are they good for dinner?

If they sell out they close so I would suggest trying to go for lunch.

How many servings are in a pan of carrot souffle?

How are weekdays for lunch ? I would like to try and was wondering the best time to go

They open at 11 get there 20 minutes before as there's always a line at opening and lunch time it could be a while before you get your food

Is there a separate line for chocolate?

    Of course!

What time do they usually sell out during the week? Can't make it during lunch hours

Yeah, depends on the day. The pastrami on Thursdays usually goes pretty quick. I know they sometimes post their sellouts on their Instagram feed...

What time do they normally sell out on saturday?

3 pm or sometimes 4. If you go at 1/130 there's usually a very short line !

We had actually started going to the original building before it burned down. I do think there is quite a change in the food from the original to the newer. But still very very good. This trip three was on the way to camping at the Texas Renaissance Festival. We wanted to get a quick meal in before we went off the grid. We ended up splitting a large chicken fried steak. As you can see from the pictures, large doesn't even do it justice. It covers a whole giant oval plate, and the sides are served in bowls on top of the steak as if it were a platter itself. This thing is massive, and can feed a family of four, or two. Really hungry adults. Their biscuits are also fantastic. Highly recommend some of those to go. The mac and cheese is pretty standard. The other side that we had this time was their daily special sweet potato crumble. It was very tasty! This place was pretty packed on a Friday afternoon, so I imagine peak times are equally or more so. There's a small lot in the front and more parking in the rear. The service was pretty quick, so I appreciated that. The staff was very knowledgeable on the food, and provide great suggestions. We didn't get any dessert this time, but it did look pretty good. Something to think about if you're coming through Tomball.

Stopped in last weekend. Haven't been in about a year…read more Great staff. Friendly. The chicken fried steak looks the same. Crisp, well fried, and plentiful. But it has remarkably zero taste. Even the gravy has absolutely no taste or flavor. The presentation is still the same, but it tastes nothing like it used to taste. I'm guessing they're trying to save money against inflation by taking all the seasoning out of the prep or something. It's been a good while, but the last time I was there it tasted the same when we cooked it back in 1985. But they've evidently taken all the prep out of both the steak and the gravy now. So weird.
