I still remember going to the original Teddy's Taco location in La Puente when it was working out of a tiny building. I would drive over 20-30 minutes to pick up lunch for my co-workers at the time and that place is associated with good times all around. It's been a couple of years, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that they opened a location here in Pasadena. I wanted to try something new this time so I got two of the Wednesday daily specials: one with pollo and one with asada. The torta sandwiches consist of toasted bread with grilled cheese, mayo, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, marinated habanero onions, and of course the meat. The bread was soft yet slightly crisp. The fixings stuffed between the buns were tasty and matched well with the overall taste. The habanero onions gave a small kick. Both meats were good, but I prefer the pollo than the asada because it's softer to eat. All orders come with salsa. I requested the strawberry and mango. The mango salsa was thick and sweet while having a slow burn. The strawberry salsa had flavor profiles that almost remind me of strawberry syrup, but it's more runny while delivering that salsa heat. These sauces have a lot more flavor than any other places I have been to, which is a huge plus. Teddy's Taco is located across from Pasadena City College in a strip mall with a shared parking space at the back. The employee working the counter realized that I was picking up an order before I got to say anything, so they are attentive. Looking for a new taco spot so tried out Teddy's. Got the street tacos with chicken, asada, and al pastor. The tacos are $2.25 each. They are typical small size, with a single tortilla which is much thicker and more substantial than the typical taco truck tortillas. They come with a substantial amount of onion and cilantro and are loaded with meat, which is nice given the price. You add your own salsa from the salsa bar as desired. The chicken was delicious, juicy and flavorful. The asada was average, flavor just okay. The al pastor was overly sweet and nutty, to the point I considered not finishing the taco. I may return if all I want is chicken, but I would not recommend the al pastor or the asada which was disappointing. For the price, I expected more, so I will continue the search for my favorite tacos in the area. read more

The main takeaway I got from trying this place for the first time: they have such a large selection of sauces to choose from!! We got the mango habanero, and it had a good kick if you try it alone (I was curious to see what it tastes like by itself,) but a nice fresh complement and not spicy at all when you eat it with the tacos. We got two al pastor street tacos and one azteca specialty taco (chorizo, grilled cheese, beans, guac sauce). My favorite part about tacos is the crispy, fresh off the grill texture of the corn tortillas and this place served it well!! However, I enjoyed the street tacos more than the azteca taco we ordered- I think the beans masked the other flavors, and it more or less tasted only like bean and cheese. I went with 3 California tacos and a cucumber agua fresca. My friends ordered nachos and other tacos. The tacos had carne asada, grilled onions, and guacamole (I don't like cilantro). The tacos come on corn tortillas and a lot of meat, so much so that it was difficult to pick up to eat. The carne asada had great flavor and was enhanced with the grilled onions. We loved teddy's tacos!!! We went earlier this week for taco Tuesday and as said, the tacos were $1.75 each (except asada was an additional .25) but they were yummy! Very generous with the portions and the tortillas were noticeably more delicious and rich and I believe they are homemade! I actually ordered the nachos :D and looooved the tortilla chips!! There were a few that were quite salty (but I do find my taste buds are sensitive to that) but it was not the majority of the chips! The meat was yummy and tender and the toppings were delicious! I have been on the hunt for good tacos, the kind that remind me of home. Thank god I finally found Teddy's and it's not too far from my house! I accidentally placed a GrubHub order to the other Teddy's location and then realized my mistake. Remember to place the order through Door Dash for the Pasadena location. Anyways I ordered three tacos - the mahi mahi, the California and the shrimp. The tacos are a bit on the smaller side but I scarfed all three down because they were so delicious. Keep that in mind when ordering and order a couple of extra tacos just in case. I also ordered the El Maximo quesadilla with pollo for my kids and removed the jalapeños. It was so delicious that I ended up sneaking some bites. The quesadillas are huge! I ordered my husband the torta with pollo. Because of allergy issues, I had them remove the guacamole and cheese and it was so good. Imagine how good it would be if you kept the best items in?!! Tried this place tonight in honor of National Taco day and taco Tues. This place was great. I really love that they give lettuce wrapped options for their tacos. That is really unique and is nice to know that their is a healthier option. They have some yummy sauces all with a different spice level. My first visit...and I did so based on the solid reviews...this is a tough time for all of us including of course, eating establishments. I was a bit disappointed that I could not try the highly recommended barbacoa - they didnt make any today I guess - Sunday. I tried 3 tacos: Asada, Carnitas and one of their specialty tacos - Alambres. Flavors were good, but I was disappointed that in all three cases, the meat seemed slightly fatty.
