I know there are varieties of burritos, but as a Chinese, I only see two types: with rice or without rice. I checked my photos -- I have 200,000 in total -- but fewer than 20 are of burritos. They were from 7-Eleven, Chipotle, Jack in the Box, and Taco Nazo, all fast-food chains. The burrito I had from Yuca's was the only one not from a fast-food chain. The burrito I tried was the carne asada, grilled steak. Honestly, it was tasty, but the beef itself was neither tender nor juicy. It was a little hard and chewy, just ordinary carne asada. The portion was big enough that two of us shared it for lunch. It was the no-rice version, filled with pico de gallo -- the fresh raw salsa -- and soft pinto beans that made it quite filling. Good. What I mean is, it was good, very good, but I've had better carne asada. It was too lean; some fat along the edges would have made it better. It's a celebrity food booth. Great service, they are very warm and helpful. Ordered the carnitas burrito and they tastes good. The carnitas are strong and tender, not the crispy kind. Salsa is on the mild side. Seems popular with the locals, there's not a lot of seats to sit, and they are all open air. Portion is not too big, but the ingredients seem to reflect the price. read more

Amazing burritos! Simply beans, steak and their salsa. No cheese no rice no extra stuff. Very tasty light and delicious. They offer hot and mild sauces. It's not a restaurant pretty much it's a take out. Unless you want to eat outside standing. Parking is a major challenge be careful from the curbs. read more

I've been looking forward to trying Yuca's for a while so I had it delivered. I tried the chile verde plate, cochinita pibil bowl and a hamburger(as an appetizer!) I found the chile verde to be tasty but on the drier side compared to the cochinita pibil. The pibil was so so good and I can't wait to eat it again! The hamburger was surprisingly good! I ordered ahead for the first time and it was an easy process. The prep time was about 15-20 minutes, not too bad. I ordered beef nachos and a side of plantains. The nachos were topped generously but the meat was a bit on the salty side this time. That's ok though I still ate them because everything else was tasty. Lovely little shack delivering food with awesome flavors and fresh ingredients. Wish they had more types of salsa but they pack the topping on nachos like crazy. I've been meaning to try this place since I live so close, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Literally I burnt my mouth because I couldn't wait for my food to cool down. I got a breakfast burrito and fries and both were delicious. The service was excellent as well. The ladies working were very kind and the food came out quickly. This place is next to a liquor store, but it's very well maintained. The community takes care of it. My only complaint is Yuca's isn't opened later. I will definitely be back! read more

If you are searching for fast casual Mexican food this is a good choice. Prices have gone up quite a bit over the last 2 years some items have almost doubled in price. I always drive by this small local place with good reviews, figured I'd give it a try. Well, aside from the food being mediocre (carne asada burrito not better than a Chipotle burrito), I watched the kitchen lady, with a phone nestled between her cheek and shoulder, reach into a lettuce bucket with her bare right hand to grab some for the salad for a plate, then move to the back to grab a piece raw marinated meat, hang it across the kitchen to put it on the grill, then turn around, wipe her hand a couple times on a used yellow microfiber cloth, and reach back into the lettuce bucket to grab some more lettuce for the next plate. After picking my wife from her work place we were very hungry I told my wife, I wanna try the food at Yucca not far away from her job. First the restaurant is small there's only one table available and very limited or you can eat in your car. The parking is very limited also but they share parking the store next door. We approach to the menu and we look at what looks good on their menu.. Then my wife decided to order the carne asada plate and her choice of tortilla or flour she decided to get flour tortillas. I decided to get the chicken plate and I got the flour tortillas as my wife. We got to seated they only table around but my wife decided we eat in the car I say yes. I pick-up our meal then we headed to car and eat there. I open my chicken plate looks good then I took a piece of my flour tortillas then getting some of the shredded chicken what great flavors in chicken it was tender and juicy so much flavors in chicken. The rice and the bean have a great amazing flavor in both side I really enjoy it very much. My wife enjoying her carne asada plate she say the carne asada have incredible flavor and the meat was tender great flavors in the meat. We need to go back again try different items. read more

Most disappointing burritos we have had!!!! :( I dunno how this place has such good reviews! For $23 we got 2 of the smallest burritos, 2 soft tacos have more meat and filing than this "burrito" it's 75% dry tortilla and the side salsa are so small. It's folded into a rectangle about 6"x1" thick, majority tortilla with like 1 scoop of meat and pico de gallo the size of a frozen burrito. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, really really sad burrito. read more

I've only been here once but I decided that Yuca's is my go-to fast Mexican place in Pasadena, as long as I'm not craving it after 6:30pm or on Sunday. It's also nice that it's in the same parking lot as Gerlach's liquor store, which is a cool combo. Yuca's is a cute little stand that is apparently 5x bigger than their first location in Los Feliz, so during the cold months it's best to stop by for takeout. There are some stools and a bar counter top, but it's really not a lot of room for the amount of people going out to eat in Pasadena. It was started by a couple o' sweet ole ladies and has grown into a household name for many Pasadenians who like Yucatán-style cooking. The prices are *very* reasonable for the amount of food you get. For $8 I got a huge order of Machaca nacho fries (you can make your nachos fries for +$1), which comes with house-made pico de gallo, chipotle and avocado salsas, cheese, Yuca's pinto beans, and a lot of machaca. For some reason they couldn't add all of the machaca to my fries, so they even gave me a whole extra side of it. Wow! Everything is so fresh and flavorful and hard to stop eating once you start. They have burritos, quesadillas, tacos, Tortas, plates, and more. They even have hot dogs and burgers, but honestly I don't know why you'd order those with so many other great options. The machaca is a pulled pork (or maybe beef?) that is dried, spiced, and rehydrated. Great for any vessel, and easy to chew! It's a cool offering that you don't see at many of the casual Mexican restaurants. They also have cochinita pibil, which I think I'll try on my next visit. read more

When I stop by Yuca's I usually get and am always satisfied with, their pineapple agua fresca. I like Yuca's agua fresca let the fruit flavor stand out, it wasn't overly sugary and it was consistent with every visit. I was on the fence about ordering the food there. I was worried that the food wouldn't be as good as their drinks and ruin my positive impression of it. I finally decided that no matter if the food was good or not Yuca's would still be tasty so I decided to get the carne asada torta. I walked up to the window and ordered, not realizing that they hadn't officially opened yet, but the lady was nice enough to take my order anyway. The torta came on a slightly different bread than what I was used to, almost like a baguette-ish in shape, but still that fluffy telera roll. I just had my first visit and I was pleased with my experience. I recently learned about Yuca's from The Burger Show. Even though this is a Mexican restaurant, the burger was recommended. So, I tried the cheeseburger and some chili fries. I liked both and can definitely see myself going back, especially because I want to try some of the Mexican food items. My friend got carne asada tacos, beans, and rice. She wasn't a fan of the beans on their own, but enjoyed them mixed with the rice. The guy at the register was very nice! I saw Yuca's on the Try Guys as one of the best burger places and wanted to give this place a try. I actually used Grub Hub to order, so I am not sure what the wait or the place looks like. I knew I had to order a burger based upon the Try Guys video (although I believe they went to the original location) and wanted to try a few other things since I was ordering from there. I tried the following: 1. Burger - SOOOO good! It was simple, but everything tasted so good together. I would definitely get this again. 2. Chili cheese fries - I have been looking for a good chili cheese fries the last few months. Yuca's definitely hit the spot. There were no beans (it was all meat chili), the cheese was melted perfectly and the fries so crispy. It is also a must order again item. 3. Carne Asada Plate - There were a lot of reviews about the carne asada. I wanted to order some carne asada, but eat it later. I settled on the plate to eat later. The meat was tender and delicious. The plate came with rice, salad and beans. It also came with some very hot salsa. I remember seeing other salsa that you can order (if you can't handle spicy, I would def recommend ordering a few other salsas on the side). I am so happy to have found Yuca's. A remarkably tiny place that you would very easily drive right past, but today on my way to an appointment, I had skipped brekkie and something about their little yellow sign with funky green ravelike lettering caught my eye. I decided to go there afterward and check-ch-ch-check check it out. I can't believe I wrote that last line. Aaaaannnnyyywaaayyy . . . My deal is a real challenge for most small Latin food places, and while I am not vegan, I am a strict vegetarian that is verrryyy picky about the oils used in my food. Anybody who has read my other reviews knows, for example, how I feel about canola (assahola) oil, and although it definitely adds a flavor, lard is absolutely out! And this sucks, because I really like chili peppers and Mexican food in general! So I managed to find a space in the small five-car parking lot next to this tiny place that is nestled off the side of a bustling drive-through liquor store. I must say that although there were not an abundance of vegetarian options, I was quite pleasantly surprised at the "Veggie Burrito with mas" that I ordered. Lemme tell ya about it . . . This surprisingly tasty and spicy little taco (I was informed by Efrain Lopez, a certified Mexican, that a burrito is considered a type of taco.) hit all the marks for me. Made with stately whole beans not fried in oil, and white rice likewise not fried in any shitty oils or infused with some fakey, MSG-laden chicken or beef stock, it was oil-friendly as well as veg! The mozzarella cheese was a good call and the lettuce was not annoyingly overdone like at some places. Almost all burritos here also come with pico de gallo, which I discovered is house-made, with crisp, fresh chunks of white onion. I know not everyone appreciates that, but I do, having learned to eat white onion raw with a meal as is often done in Persian and Indian food. It totally worked for me. With all burritos here, for 50c extra you can it order "con mas" (I know there is way to use HTML to get the accent on the "A" but I am too lazy to do that right now.), which means that the aforementioned rice is added along with two salsas, an avocado and a chipotle. The latter I did not taste strongly but I am sure it added some sabor. I was only generally glad I did this, which I will explain: The only reason I did not rate Y's P five stars is that, as savory and satisfying as my burrito was, it was poorly composed and rolled. Certain ingredients added excess liquid which came pouring out of the hole in the faulty "bottom knot." I usually remind the composer to strain out the water but did not as this was my first time here. Fortunately I did not end up wearing the savory sop as I usually do, but the it did thoroughly soak the paper plate, paper bag, napkins, and foil wrapper that were provided. They are careful not to make your food too spicy here, but they do have extra salsas should you decide to accept the mission. And let me tell ya, they were fantastic! The house red salsa is unusual, watery with garlicky red heat and a non-obnoxious vinegarity. But if that isn't enough, they will also provide you with a small bottle of El Yucateco XXXTRA HOT. This is a well-known southern Mexican habanero-based sauce, which only added to my delight. This place's beverage fountain flows with good Mexican aguas frescas, such as horchata, tamarindo, and jamaica, as well a "fan favorite" pineapple drink. I got the horchata, which I wasn't blown away by, but did enjoy nonetheless. This place's food is influenced by the cuisine of the Yucatan peninsula. which is not like the majority of the local Mexican taco stands. It is less greasy and beef-oriented, and is more focused on pork dishes. read more
