I went in to have them finish replacing my screen, I had already installed a new one and it was working well but I wasn't able to fully close it. The tech said he needed to work on my Face ID and charged me an extra fee for that, so I agreed. When I went back to pick it up he had removed extra components claiming he wanted to look into them over night. The phone wouldn't stay on longer than 3 minutes so I went back and they agreed to fix it. Over the course of 3 days I went in several times as they kept making the phone worse!! In the end they completely ruined my phone and blamed it on me. The tech and owner are so rude and cocky, I was shocked at their lack of professionalism. I should have listened to the other reviews who have also had their phones broken here. DO NOT GO HERE. They destroyed my phone, did not offer a refund, and now I've had to buy a new phone. read more

The Tech Box does quality work and their owner, Nick, is a consummate pro. He will always tell you what repair he recommends for your device and why. Some customers may not be a fan of this, but they ARE the kind of business where you're expected to haggle and negotiate the price. You can almost always get them to come down by 10-15%. They are doing very dextrous work on small electronic components, though, so they will always want to charge a lot for labor, especially for technically challenging projects. My only complaint is that, during my most recent visit to pick up a repaired device, two of Nick's lackeys were bickering behind the counter, swearing at each other and such. This made for an uncomfortable experience. I don't really think it's appropriate to argue like that when you're at work at all, but certainly not in front of paying regular customers! I doubt Nick himself would approve! read more

I got my phone fixed there a few ago because my screen went completely black. Well within 3-5 days my screen cracks (I have an otter box screen protector). Within a week's time my screen starts going black for short periods of time. Fast forward to now my Face ID doesn't work. So I go into the store and a woman is also there because her screen broke within a week of getting it "fixed" here. We were essentially informed that the products they used are cheaply made and result in more breakage than a standard iPhone screen. So if you want to pay a lot of money for a cheap product that will break in a week then go here. If you don't want the hassle of cheap product then don't go here. Your screen with break within a week's time. Avoid at all cost. I will be contacting my bank to fight the charge of the cheap product they are selling. read more

Dropped off a laptop in early November. Have been calling for updates, leaving voice mails, no one ever calls me back. One time I got through, they said they couldn't determine the status of the laptop, and would call me back. They did not call me back. Most of the time, calling them doesn't even go to voicemail, the connection just dies. They are impossible to get it touch with. I still have no idea what the status of the laptop is, or if it's even fixed. Awful awful customer service. Do not use. read more

I took my laptop and iPad to the Tech Box for some adjustments...the laptop was finished immediately. I left my iPad there so the young man could work on the iPad. He wrote the cost ($60) on the shop stationery. When I went back a few days later the cost was $90. I reminded him that he had said $60. He didn't believe me but said I could get the repair for $80. Yes!!! Very affordable and super fast. They popped up on an ad as Internet cookies knew o was looking for a computer repair shop. I live in South Shore but this place is close by in Hyde Park. That being said there is no parking however I found an available bike rack to park my coral colored Retrospect Fixie. I dropped my laptop off just before closing on a Tuesday. The following day I received an email with diagnostic info and pricing. My laptop was repaired by Thursday! The workers are nice and knowledgeable. read more

I genuinely regret writing this review because the owner and employees seem great but I need to share my experience last month. I brought my iPhone in to get the crack glass replaced. They replaced it very quickly and the price was reasonable. However, when I started using my phone, the home button didn't work making the phone almost useless. I took it back in and they replaced the glass again. The home button barely worked again. Frustrated, I asked for a refund. They wanted to try and fix the problems one more time but they couldn't fix it. So they finally refunded my money and because they LOST my original glass they put a different very broken iPhone glass on my phone, so now I have extremely broken glass and a home button that doesn't work properly. If you are considering Tech Box for your phone repair, beware, you've been warned. read more

I took my old-ish iPad to Tech Box because of a constant error message and inability to connect to the server. The friendly technician took a quick look, asked me a few questions, and fixed the problem, while explaining to me what it was and how he was fixing it (although I admit that I didn't follow or understand everything). The process took all of ten minutes and he charged me a very modest amount. I've never left a Yelp review before but I knew as soon as I got home with my repaired laptop, I needed to immediately leave a review for the amazing service I received. I'm a remote worker and cannot work without my laptop. So when I dropped my laptop and broke the power jack (leaving me unable to charge my laptop), that was the worst thing that could have happened. The longer my laptop remained broken, the less money I was making, which directly impacts my livelihood. Anyway, I dropped my laptop off yesterday 20 minutes before Tech Box closed and when the repair guy told me it could take 2-7 days, I was disappointed but resigned. Imagine my surprise and delight when, less than 24 hours later, I received a call telling me my laptop was fixed! I sped over to Tech Box to pick up my laptop and not only was the power jack working again but they had also cleaned it and repaired one of the broken hinges--for free! The affordable price, speed, and quality of service simply can't be beat. I highly recommend Tech Box and have now found my go-to computer repair shop. read more

In the middle of the coronavirus, my laptop battery was swollen. The more I read about how dangerous it could be, I knew I had to have it removed. I contacted Tech Box and Nick was wonderful. He was very conscientious about social distancing and patient with my anxieties both about the battery and the virus. His price which he told me before doing the work was reasonable. These guys are such pros! And very upstanding and honest as well. They'll tell you what they can do, give a frank appraisal and then do it. It's that simple. And they can do a hell of a lot! I first tried to get my computer fixed by one of Apple's "authorized service providers" (who don't even try to fix anything, and instead tell you to just replace your device) and when they told me my laptop was unsalvageable, I brought it to Tech Box. The gentlemen at the Tech Box are professional. The price quote to repair my damaged Samsung S3 screen was seemingly high, but the quality of work and service I received were worth the cost. I appreciate the business's record keeping and the business setting expectations for the customer. The check-in time is a little long, but the business is organized and timely. You think you are walking in to get a quick electronic repair, but you walk out feeling like you just made a deposit on a luxury item. Nick and Ethan are amazing at what they do and this is the best tech service I've ever received anywhere, hands down. If you're having ANY issue whatsoever with an electronic, I would say there's no better place for you to go in the Hyde Park/ South Side area. They are kind, honest, efficient, and affordable. I had a MacBook that I thought would never see the light of day again.... Within two weeks they had completely updated it, installed new software and quickly ordered new hardware for me so that now it is better than it was when I first bought it! I couldn't be happier, and the price (service plus parts) was very very good for the work put in as well. A month later my phone was given back with a broken home button. I was patient and brought it back multiple times for him to fix. A MONTH after my first visit, he claims he sent it to a specialist, and that it was fixed. Got home and charged it, still broken. Stay away!!!! read more

I really liked that he told me the price it would cost to fix my laptop before just going in, that allowed me to ensure that I had enough funds to cover the cost. Took my phone here for a battery replacement, they managed to break my screen, and did not even call to tell me. After over 4hrs of not hearing any news, I called and only then did they tell me. I'm out $30 for the battery that I had to pay up front for and now the phone isn't worth what it would have cost to have it fixed elsewhere. Had the option to leave the phone with them for at least another week for them to fix what they broke, but at this point I absolutely would not trust this place. read more

Brought them a completely dead iPhone 6s and they methodically and analytically identified and tested all the possible causes, finally zeroing in on the need to reload the iOS onto the phone. They did that, replaced a broken screen, everything worked, and the price was great - less than just doing a screen replacement at the Apple Store. These guys work hard and are very responsive. I live in the area and came to Tech Box after three unsuccessful attempts to work with Verizon phone insurance to repair a cracked screen on my iPhone 6 plus (don't waste your time with Verizon insurance!). This guy is the real deal. I cracked my iPhone 5s screen and Apple wouldn't repair it because the metal casing was slightly dented from the fall.
