Never use these hacks. They are completely inept - they're rude & have no sense of customer service. Wouldn't trust them to change a lightbulb. They charged me to break my laptop that was working completely fine & just needed a new fan. I pick it up from them, they didn't replace the fan, the old fan is louder than ever, & the screen now doesn't work. What did these guys do? They then called me telling me to buy a worse laptop from them for $100-off a $900 laptop (the one they broke was $1500). This place just needs better communication within its employees/ownership. The owner resides out of state but fields the Yelp questions about whether or not they can do a repair. I needed a new battery connector soldered on to a laptop motherboard. He said yes we can do it, come on in. I drive all the way from Joliet, walk in, state my case, the kid at the front desk goes to the back room for a minute, comes out and says sorry we can't do that. I walk out the door confused but gather my senses and go right back in and say the guy on Yelp told me you could do it! So then the owners brother appears from the back room (I naturally talk a little loud, so he heard me) and proceeded to explain how "the moron from Yelp is the guy that owns this place, and I know he's a moron because he's my brother" lives out in Arizona or Colorado or wherever and accepts these jobs but the technician that does soldering doesn't like soldering anymore. But apparently they didn't relay this to the owner out of state. So whatever. I'm sure they do the other repairs well like the usual screens and battery replacement and other low hanging fruit but if you need any smd soldering either learn how to do it yourself so you're not at the mercy of someone else or find another place elsewhere. Shops that do fine solder repairs are getting hard to find. I ended up going with WeFix in Frankfort. read more

I have gone to Computer Greeks a few times now for issues with laptops I've owned over the past few years. I had a great experience yesterday that prompted me to write this review. I had an odd problem with my laptop speakers and tried all of the suggestions a Google search suggested. I brought it in and the man working the shop (I didn't catch his name) all but stopped what he was doing... double-checked a few settings and concluded I might have a hardware issue with the speaker and headphone jack. Of course they could've taken it, ran a diagnosis, and charged through the nose for a new motherboard or something like that. A $15 adapter for the USB-c port did the trick, basically turning that into an external speaker port... he even let me "test" it to make sure I could get sound before I purchased. My PC will now live to see another day! read more

My laptop was running very slow so they suggested updating my hard drive to a SSD which I agreed to but I asked if I should also upgrade my amount of RAM as long as they had the machine open. They said "no" because the SSD would give me the needed response time. And it worked great, my older laptop is just slightly slower than my i7, 32gig, 1.5tb desktop and they had it back to me in a day. I'm super pleased with both the service and the advice. Their honesty in telling me that a RAM upgrade wasn't necessary, tells you a lot. read more

My computer was very old, on it's last legs. Money is often tight, so buying a new computer was always a secondary option. After talking to the owner, we were able to find me a new system that was miles ahead of what I had previously, and at a price point I could afford. Steven not only made the process of buying myself a new system less intimidating, he made it enjoyable. I can't imagine going to a big box store if Computer Greeks can handle what I'm looking for in the future. If you are looking to get yourself a new gaming rig, run, don't walk to computer Greeks. After years of loyal patronage Mrs. King saw the real side of these people. She brought her laptop in for service and was greeted by a young loud and disrespectful tech. Mrs. King is a 77 year old disabled widow, who couldn't understand why her laptop was not operating correctly. The lady and ultimately the owner, treated her with impatience and eventually refused this hearing impaired and brain damaged lady service. They are friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgable. i have purchased my last 3 laptops from them and get better service than any other computer store, even the IT department at my job ! Everyone I talked to was very professional and knowledgeable. I took my pc there a few months ago because I was having display issues and when I came to pick it up (the next day) they took the time to explain what was going on, and even threw in some cable management because it wasn't the best when I brought it in. They were also very communicative and had the job done swiftly and efficiently. The prices aren't dirt cheap, but you're paying for quality service and expertise that isn't available at every repair store. 10/10 in my book and I'll be going back if I encounter any other problems. Brought my Dell desktop in to be looked at because the cooling fan kept running at high speeds for prolonged periods of time. They diagnosed the problem as several of the mounts for the fan were broken causing the problem. The said that to replace the fan with a used one would be approximately $49. That was fine with me. Then they to;d me that my Hard Disk drive was bad and that t the computer was not worth saving and they could sell me a used one for $300 or a new one starting at $579. I opted to do neither and take my computer back. In my spare time to was able to purchase a new cooling fan on E bay for $11. It was easy to install. I then reinstalled my supposedly bad HDD and the desktop booted up immediately! The PC is working fine now with no issues for an $11 investment. Unfortunately I did purchase another new desktop which I really did not have to do. read more

They have good pricing and more important to me, they know what they're doing and are up to date with the latest tech. Any other store, Best Buy or where ever that has tried to help me with buying, building or repairing computers has let me down. Either buy claiming to know their products and later I find they were mistaken, or simply not knowing their products. When I do find someone, I've thought was knowledgeable, they're not there when I would return. The same family run business, I've grown to know and trust is still there and always leads me to the correct product or answer. I went in to purchase a laptop, and besides purchasing a laptop with a solid state drive, I found a great buy on a HP Inkjet printer. This is the best non-big box computer store in the South Chicago suburban area and they have been in business for over 23 years. The staff are extremely knowledge and they specialize in PC hardware and service. Their services include building custom systems, such as gaming PCs, selling refurbished PCs, laptops, and peripherals, installation of software, virus removal, repair/upgrading of PCs and laptops, etc. Their refurbished PCs & laptops come with a 30 day warranty and are preloaded with the latest version of Windows and virus software, where appropriate. When you go in to purchase a used/refurbished PC/laptop, the staff first questions the customer as to what they want to do with the device and what software they plan to run. They then verify the hardware requirements for the software (if required) and then show the customer what devices they have available that meet the user's requirements. You won't find this at a big box store or on the Internet. Their prices are extremely competitive and the customer winds up with a PC/laptop at a fraction of a new unit, and with better performance (faster processor, larger memory, &/or larger/faster/more reliable hard drive. Some units actually have solid state hard drives which mean faster boot time, fast response time, and higher reliability (no moving parts in the hard drive). From now on, this is the only computer store I will shop at for my future computer needs. read more

I am so glad I did I can not rave enough about this store! I felt like I walked into an old mom and pop shop but with technology. The owner and atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming.
