I decided to go to Nerd Rangers after hearing from a friend that her macbook works "good as new and super fast" after she brought it there to have a ton of viruses/malware removed. I figured mine was just as bad, if not worse then hers since even my home page on ALL of my browsers were taken over by a suspicious virus thing that constantly caused pop ups and slowed down my laptop to the point where it was impossible to use. I called and received a fair quote after describing a bit about the problems I was experiencing with my laptop. The guy who runs the company, Shuaib, was very helpful and professional. He even offered to pick up my laptop the next day on his way downtown which was awesome because I live in countryside and it saved me a drive to Naperville one way. It was ready to be picked up after only 3 working days. I ended up having over 50 types of malware and 30 viruses on mac which he was able to get rid of. He even installed a free anti-malware program that will help prevent future problems. When I went to pick it up he was happy to explain step-by step what he had done to fix the laptop, how the viruses and malware work/ how they infect the whole system, and provided tips on how to keep it running smoothly from now on. I literally thought I was going to have to buy a whole new macbook which I definitely cant afford right now, and it was returned to me feeling like brand new and only cost me about $300 (about a fourth of what a new macbook might cost). When a big box store crashed the hard drive on my old Toshiba laptop while trying to port my old programs and files to a new laptop, i was devastated. The laptop wouldn't even boot up! I researched the web and with Google and Yelp I found Nerd Rangers. Shuaib thoughtfully reviewed his resume', DePaul education and laid out a plan for data recovery and transfer to a new ASUS laptop with a backup DROBO. NR managed that successfully in 2016. In 2018, I returned to Nerd Rangers for a more complex problem: elimination of duplicated files on 4T of business and photographic data on backup drives and a Mac G-5. Shuaib wrote and continued to refine software which file-compared each file for name, size, date, time, and file extension; pausing to validate as the work progressed. The G-5 needed a new drive and NR located that as well. No data was destroyed, instead he saved the duplicate files in one directory and left a clean single copy of each file in a separate set of directories. Nerd Rangers saved my computer. What Microsoft Tech Support couldn't do in three weeks of work, he did in a day and made it look easy. My HP laptop auto-updated to Windows 10, but couldn't support the system. It lost a lot of functionality and couldn't wirelessly connect to the internet. I called Microsoft Tech Support to have them fix it. I eventually worked my way through the levels from Customer Service, Level 1 Tech Support, Level 2 Tech Support, and finally got to Microsoft Global Escalation Services. My Microsoft Office went down Easter Sunday night (4/4/21) and I have no idea what happen. Monday (4/5/21) morning I took my laptop into a local IT business near Orlando, FL. I used to live in Bolingbrook, IL near Naperville, IL until June 2019. Long story short, I took my laptop in to get Microsoft Office repaired and the technician struggle for about 20 minutes so I told him I was going to call the Nerd Rangers in Naperville, IL. Glad I found this place. I was having computer issues and couldn't figure out what was wrong. After various attempts to fix it, I knew I needed an expert. I was hesitant to go to Geek Squad at Best Buy. The service technicians can be hit or miss and that is how I found Nerd Rangers. Shuaib, is the owner of the company and came to the house. I recently had my external hard drive crash...literally, off of the top of my tower, and was unable to open anything on it. I took it to Geek Squad who informed me it would cost a minimum of $1450 to recover my data, and they would consider it a successful recovery even if they could only recover ONE file! Are you kidding me? I had over 22,000 images/videos on this hard drive. Vacations, holidays, my husband's band videos, etc. I had them return my hard drive and I searched for other options. My Lenovo Y510P can't be boot up. Tried a lot of things but still didn't work. Googled local PC repair shops and saw that Nerd Rangers has excellent reviews so decided to give it a try. Wow, these reviewers didn't lie. Shuaib is superb, friendly and knowledgeable. He explained various options to me. We decided to back up the data first before reinstalling the OS. To back up all the data would probably take many hours. Since I backed up the data a few weeks ago, I asked him if I can use his desktop to hook up my laptop's hard disk as an external driver so I can just copy those recently changed files. We took in a damaged external hard drive that stopped working. It had held all of our family photos and videos. We started with the Best Buy Geek squad who said they could see there were partitions on the drive, but couldn't see anything in it. Adam at Nerd Rangers was hopeful. My iphone10 was recently locked on the reboot apple logo screen for days while on vacation abroad in an area of poor wifi, and after trying everything I took it to Nerd Rangers upon return from vacation and they were able to reboot the screen and more importantly retrieve all my vacation pictures that had not been backed up to icloud yet. To note I had also shown the phone to uBreakiFix close to my home and was told by the employee there that I wouldn't be able to retrieve these pictures and would need to go straight to restoring the phone to factory settings. So yes overall super thankful and impressed with Shuaib's successful efforts and quick turnaround. They even took the extra step of backing up ALL my pictures and videos to a flash drive. Thank goodness I found Shuaib and Nerd Rangers! After upgrading to High Sierra both my MacBook Pro and iMac refused to import my 100K of photos. This was probably my fault as I had missed a few OS updates in the past but after trying multiple times myself to restore my photos unsuccessfully, I contacted Nerd Rangers and Shuaib was able to recover them for me and give me some pointers on things I could/should be doing going forward.
