I decided not to repair the computer due to the cost of parts and service versus purchasing a new computer. I asked Jason to drop the laptop off. Between my nervousness over having someone I didn't know pick up my computer, and miscommunications between Jason and I, we finally got the laptop back. Since he didn't actually fix my computer, I can't comment on his skills, but he is a very personable young man and I would recommend giving him a chance.

(Clearly it couldn't handle all the awesome I was churning out on it.) As a graduation present to myself I bought a Mac and sure enough, a mere week after I bought a new laptop my PC laptop died. Less than two years old and it was toast. (And this is exactly why once you go mac, you never go back.) One of the IT guys at my last job offered to fix it for me, but then I quit that job and felt awkward taking him up on his offer. So, no more PC for me. I was lucky that I had a brand new laptop so my PC dying wasn't the end of the world, but it had everything I did for my master's degree on there, except my capstone/thesis. No, I am not a total idiot and I DO use Dropbox, but all of my research filled it up so if it wasn't capstone related it got kicked out of my dropbox folder. Fast forward a year later, and it sat collecting dust. I kept meaning to try to fix it myself, but that never happened. It was also eating away at me that I lost *everything* I did in grad school, and considering I am actually using my degree it sucked not being able to go back and reference things I did. I kept weighing the cost of having it repaired vs. just letting it go, but one day I finally decided to take it in. I did a quick Yelp search for computer repair, and Techlife popped up first. I read the reviews about him being so amazing and the great prices, and I packed up my laptop and drove over there. I was actually expecting parking to be a nightmare given its proximity to Wrigley, but both times I came here it was super easy and I got rockstar parking right in front. I dropped it off and as promised, Jaime called me a few hours later with the diagnosis - my hard drive was bad. He could install a new one and attempt data recovery on my old one. This all went down on a Friday afternoon, and by Monday morning everything was done and... *drumroll please* By some miracle, he was able to recover EVERYTHING. It's all there, every last paper and important/sentimental photos that I forgot I had that I am SUPER happy he recovered. The best part is the price - it was so good! I got his amazing service, a new hard drive, Windows installed, data recovery, etc. for a price so low I was convinced he forgot to invoice me for something. Even the data recovery was cheap, though he did admit if he would have had to send it off it would have been hundreds of dollars. Jaime, you rock. I'm hoping all of my computers stay in working order so I don't need your services again, but if I do, I will be knocking on your door.

While visiting Google Help, I took their advice and downloaded an extension for Chrome (only Chrome) called Password Alert, that lets you know whenever you visit a page that's pretending to be Google. I would not recommend nobody come to this place to get their technology done whether it's for work, school, or home and I suggest to find another place unless you want to be scam by a real scammer. No amount of troubleshooting gave me any idea of what happened. In my case fortunately my Sony TV model was specifically covered in a narrow extended warranty for a power board supply issue. After finally getting Sony to act on repairing the TV I was extremely concerned about what vendor they would use in order to repair my TV at home. I certainly did not want there to be any lingering problems or have the repair affect any of the features of my TV and I knew that the quality of the technician would be important. For once, Sony impressed me when they assigned the repair to TV Repair Xperts. from the beginning the company was very fast to reach out to me and explain the timeline on the repair. In addition, they were extremely flexible with respect to repair scheduling and were clearly skilled enough at what they do that they could fit many appointments into one day. My contact there was my new hero, Bill. I scheduled a late day appointment and Bill kept me updated on the day of my appointment as his day progressed. He was especially cordial and professional when he arrived. I had no idea the magnitude of the repair I needed and he was kind enough to explain it to me. He was also kind enough to offer me advice on a software update issue I had been having with this TV. Within just a few minutes, he had managed to reattach the jumble of cords and my beautiful 4K screen came back to life. They may not have a super fancy website or sophisticated marketing, but they will be my absolute first choice and I referral whenever I'm in need of a TV repair again or know someone who is in need of high quality and professionalism.
