Tea Top might just be my favorite boba place in Houston! I was not a cheese foam person before but after trying it here I learned to love it, and my friends even ask for double cheese foam! Just a side note, their taro milk tea is different than other places because they leave chunks of taro in there and the cashier warns me about the sweetness every time I order it for my boyfriend. Everything is so nice and herby/floral. You can really taste every different kind of tea. Just another Boba tea place, our drink were fine and service was fast, our only problem with our order is that they got it wrong, we order two drink the top 10 Passion fruit medley which a personally liked, and a strawberry tea with pearls, they got the pearls wrong and substituted with strawberry pearl it wasn't a big issue but when we got our order, we ask if it had the pearl on it because we couldn't see them regular pearls are black while the strawberry flavour are transparent, the person that gave us our drink told us yes there it is the strawberry pearls which is what you order, it felt kinda rude but we didn't want to argue because it might have been a misunderstanding with the cashier when taking our order. read more

I have not tried the original Katy Tea Top location, so I am unsure how this new shop compares. But we were on Bellaire, and my friend an I noticed this place had opened, so we went in to try! I had the Cream Cheese Foam Oolong Tea with red beans. My friend had something similar with boba, which she claims the Katy Tea Top has the best tapioca pearls ever! Also ordered a Grapefruit Green Tea to-go as well, just to see how it compares with my favorite drink from 85 Bakery--the King Grapefruit Green Tea. I have to say this place's Cheese Milk Foam was the best of the new places I have tried so far. The consistency was thick but not TOO thick, and the saltiness was just right (Teapresso foam made me gag as it was TOO salty). I think I could just sit there with a full cup of the Cheese Foam and would be happy! The drink was okay, as I got a pretty average/normal drink anyway, the red bean was a bit too sweet for my taste though. On my friend's side, ahe said the boba was not as chewy as the Katy's location--so she was not a fan. The Grapefruit Green Tea was good in my opinion, but did not beat 85's version. Maybe because I forgot to ask for 50% sweet, so I will try to order that again in the future, just to be sure. Overall, I would definitely go back to this location for the Cheese Milk Foam. There are SO MANY boba places in Houston and esp in Chinatown, it's hard to decide which one to go to. But Tea Top is one of my favorites!! It's a Taiwanese transplant, so you know that the tea, flavors, and boba are all top notch. 1) Pricing is similar to most other gourmet type tea shops in the area. Expect to pay a little less than $5 for a large sized drink. Toppings are all 50 cents extra. 2) MILK FOAM- this is why Tea Top is my FAVORITE. They give you a TON of milk foam, and it's deliciously creamy, salty, and adds the perfect contrast to a cool, clean tea drink. I like to mix it partially into my drink to add some creaminess to the tea before drinking it. I compared it initially to Gong Cha which also offers milk foam but gives you a TINY amount. They offer the "original" and "cheese"-- "cheese" sounds gross but it's more of a "cream cheese" type flavor- I liked both but prefer the original more. 3) Tea options- I like the standard jasmine or earl grey tea here. They ask about every aspect of how you like your drink to be made - how sweet, how much ice, any toppings? They also know exactly what ingredients are in their tea. They use lactose free diary in their milk tea instead of non-dairy creamers. I order the Jasmine Milk Tea with Tapioca. The flavor is great, you can really taste the Jasmine in their drink. Definitely not something I can say for all boba places. Best of all, they've got their AC on (which seems like a no brainer in Houston, but go to the other tea shops nearby and you'll quickly make that an important factor in deciding what boba shop you go to). I've been skeptical about venturing outside my typical Sharetea bubble, but this place was a pleasant and welcome surprise. It was the only boba shop on the side of the plaza it's located on with a line almost out the door on a busy Sunday during lunch, which should tell you something. They offer a dizzying array of options, and I settled on the sun moon black tea with a rose milk cream topping/cap 50% sweet. The line moved quickly and the workers making the drinks were extremely meticulous and took a lot of care in the presentation and mixing. The drink was delicious and it was the first time I tried a milk cap! If you like floral flavors, try this combo out, you won't be disappointed. This tea shop is amazing!!! They still had the limited menu when I went, but what a menu! My favorite is the grapefruit tea with sun moon lake tea substituted for green tea. It's incredible! It's full of grapefruit pulp and fresh grapefruit flavor. They are so nice to substitute the black tea for green tea because I prefer the flavor of black tea. They have this magical black tea called sun moon lake that tastes wonderful. They gave me a sample of the sun moon lake tea by itself. So good! You open at 11:30am and you don't have boba available for 1 hr after opening? That's a mistake. When the boba did come out, it was too soft and didn't have any flavor. I didn't really enjoy the taste of the tea, as it tasted just like water and sugar and not really like tea. HOWEVER, I was blown away by the taste of the milk tea. I've never tried fresh milk before and wanted to try it out. Fresh milk just means they don't use creamer, so it's more light and not as heavy. The oolong was sooo good I'm still thinking about it.
