Just wanted to have a quick cheap milk tea today and this what happened. I came here once before today. Last time, they had a huge sign by the front door stated $1.75 for 5 different types of milk tea. I went inside and they had the same poster near the register, but this one printed with the time restriction (from 3-6pm). I was there around 2pm and I didn't really care how much gonna be since I just wanted to try it. They charged me the promotional price and I left happy. They tea was cheap and it wasn't bad as Quickly. Today, I returned to the store again and the same big sign still located at the front door. I just want a cheap drink to satisfy my sweet tooth. When I was trying to pay, a lady charged me $3 and I told her the sign outside only stated $1.75. She pointed to the poster right next to the register and it said it's only from 3-6pm. I didn't mentioned I had it last time around 2pm and I told her the sign located at the front door didn't have the time restriction. Her face didn't really care and just said it only valid from 3-6pm. I didn't speak a word and I just left the store. To be honest, when people saw the freaking health score (79) and they will leave it right away. It was late during night at around 9 pm when I decided I wanted to try out the other nearby boba tea shop since 5 degrees was closed for the night. Mind you I always order Jasmin boba tea at 5 degrees because it taste awesome and it's my favorite boba drink to order when I'm craving for boba tea at night. I ordered very late at night so I wasn't expecting a superb quality drink from Tea Plus but I just cannot disregard how disgusting the jasmine milk tea was. I've been frequenting this place 2-3x a week during SIP to support our local mom and pops in the area, but this evening drew the straw for me. The older male (I assume is the owner) in my last two or three visits has been nothing but rude. The first time, I placed an order with a younger gentlemen at the front, who I assume was new, seemed frazzled when entering my order. I overheard the older guy behind the curtain getting annoyed and reiterating what I had ordered in Cantonese in a passive aggressive manner. A customer comes in after me and I observe the same thing. On my second visit, I ordered their special and was told I had to pay extra to add boba when it was advertised to come with it. Ok, $.50 no big deal... In my last visit today, I paid cash, so that I could get silver coins to pay for the meter and he refused to exchange a few pennies. It's pretty comparable to the tea house - wide selection of milk teas, boba drinks, and smoothies, same small sitting area, cash only. My girlfriend and I have been coming here since the first day they opened. Although there are a few other boba spots nearby, this one never disappoints. They have the best milk tea in my honest opinion, and their tapioca balls are always the perfect taste and texture. They are still fairly new, and there always seems to be new employees like every day so the service can be pretty slow when it starts to get busy. The owner is very accomadating, he is serious about customer satisfaction! I have never encountered an owner/manager who cared so much about making the customer happy but his ever-changing employees don't carry the same mentality... Probably one of the worst milk teas that I have ever tasted. The customer before me complained that her order tasted watered down. The cashier responded saying, "You chose 25% sweetness" so I thought perhaps her drink just didn't have enough sweetness added to it. When I took a sip of my oolong milk tea, my exact thoughts were, "watered down". It's not that the drink lacked sweetness, it simply lacked flavor. One of my strangest experiences... When I went up to the front register, the cashiers there didn't came over. I think the young girl cashier is trying to teach a new guy near the boba machine next to the register. Maybe they were just focus didn't notice me? So, I tried to grab their attention. Eye contact, hand waving, waving in front of the boba machine, saying hello... I can tell they are busy, but please just give me a nod, a "we will be with you soon" - something! But no, they never once even look up! Thankful, an adult came out from the back. He immediately came over and took my order. He was very polite. Sadly, he passed the transaction to the new guy - I was pretty sure he was new by then, seeing the intensely focused face and slow finger movement as he navigate the iPad register. After purchase, I realized he charged me wrong. I ordered a rose milk with mango popping boba. He charged me for rose milk tea, popping boba, and boba. *Sigh* By that point, I was tired. I was not going to make a scene against a newbie cashier for $0.50. Before I left, the older guy apologize again for the wait and even help me get my straw. I was hoping that my experience ends there, with the polite old guy and two young cashiers new to customer service, but no. It was the first time in my life that a milk tea taste sour. No kidding! The rose is so barely there that, the moment I got home, I asked my sister if she can taste it. Being a much more frequent boba drinker than I am, she told me it's just very light. Then, she frowned, and she commented that it taste very strange. Finally, she asked me if I can be sure it hasn't gone bad. I was so surprise by the taste that I didn't even consider that. But I was so thirsty that I already drink half of it (yes, I was that thirsty), and I wasn't sick. She finally proposed that maybe the syrup that the boba soak in didn't got drain out properly. After some thought, I wondered if some mango popping boba was popped while the drink was made, though the mango wasn't strong and shouldn't taste sour... Who knows what happened? But geeze... this is one strange, strange experience. The drink by itself should have got this down to 2 star. The lack of attention from cashiers would downgrade it to 1. I've always been ordering the same drink for numerous times (at least 20 times probably) and I never had a problem with that. In fact, it was always good and I always tip. This time, it took me a while trying to explain to that guy who took my order (I even typed it out for him on my phone and asked him to repeat the order.) He then made the drink three times and still couldn't get it right. After all, the taste of the final one I got was still off but I decided to leave with it because I spent too much time on ONE drink. Please tell me straight if you can't do it so I can order something else. Don't just randomly mix the syrup and tea together thinking your customers don't know s**t.
