Remember the days when growing up, boba wasn't a big thing and there were those mom & pop shops that would charge only $1.99 or $2? In this economy, that's unheard of but here at 5 Degree Tea House, that childhood feeling returns! Moving away from my romanticism and nostalgia, I'm blown away to find a boba milk tea drink for $1.99 with good tea, sweetness, and chewy boba. They have regular black tea, jasmine milk tea, taro milk tea, and Thai milk tea all for $1.99! Just for that alone and the fact it tastes good is enough for me! I will note that it's $10 minimum for Apple Pay/card, so cash preferred, but that's a given in mom & pop shops :-) I didn't try any of their other drinks or food, but shoutout to them for being the Costco hot dog of boba shops here in the Bay! Plus the inside is fun with claw machines, booths, and after school middle school or high school kids creating memories. Plus the staff were really nice! This spot is a gem and I will be coming back!
Nice boba and snack/food place! We passed 3 of them on the street and only stopped here because there was parking. But this place is authentic couldn't read half the menu cause it's not in English but that's fine just enough to get what we wanted. Some nice booths and tables friendly quick service prices are great and drinks tasted very organic got the line passion tea, coconut, fresh fruit mix and boba and Taro $1.99 special milk tea which was awesome. Fruit drinks came with fresh fruit slices and coconut drink tasted like a pina collada. Lots of food options also. Definitely recommended wish we had this one in Sacramento:
I love this place, my GO-TO drink is the HoneyDew smoothie w/ rainbow jelly, my favorite. On my last visit I ordered a chocolate cream waffle, it really satisfied my sweet craving. I'm glad that it's just a hop, skip & a jump from my hood.

Stopped by for a snack and got the saddest California roll...barely any avocado. But hey, I get what I paid for, I suppose! ($4.95+tax) Bonus points (bonus star) for accommodating my request to use my own container instead of their thin black plastic disposable ones. I didn't get a drink, but it looks like it's still free toppings.
I came here because my friend told me they served iced milk. Being that I'm pregnant and all, I've been trying to avoid milk tea, but I cave into my craving every once in a while. Still I feel guilty. So when I heard this place had just ice milk, I was dead set in trying it. It was also near my SF house so it was convenient. The condiments or extra things you put in your drinks (boba, pudding, lychee, etc) are all self serve. Thought that was kinda weird, but ok. I'm not sure how fresh their ingredients are because my drinks had hard chunks of jelly in it. Their drinks are huge, like the ones they serve at PurpleKow and each drink is between $3-$4. My iced milk drink with pudding and grass jelly was $3.99. It tasted OK. It wasn't too sweet but it lacked something, maybe it's the tea haha. I'd still come back if I was around the area, but I think I'm ready to find other places that serve iced milk. I also got the eggettes. I thought their eggettes were better than other places, like Eggettes. I think they add extra flavoring to it. It did become soggy within a few minutes which was a bummer. Boo! I didn't have to wait in line which was cool. The drinks and eggettes were ready in about 4 minutes or so.

Especially the little ones, who seem very much drawn to the fact that you can "self serve" bubba/jelly from a counter before getting the cup filled with tea! The wide "fat" cups also look nice--I've only seen this at purple kow, which is also another amazing tea place. Must. Get. Moar!
This review is for the avocado banana smoothies ONLY. This is my favorite place to get it! This used to be Lolocup back when I was in high school and I was sad when it closed, but this place makes them just as good. They have self-serve toppings, but there's a limit on how much you're allowed to put. You obviously can't fill your cup halfway with boba, that's ridiculous. The whole concept of self-serve is always fun, but sometimes I worry about how sanitary it is to leave the toppings out in the open for everyone to scoop.. This place is usually filled with middle school kids on weekday afternoons. It's on a busy street and can be difficult to find parking sometimes. Don't ever get the chubby cup instead of the large because they're basically the same amount. Not worth it to pay extra for something that seems to be larger in size width wise. Cash only! And if you get what I like to get here, get it with lychee jelly! Don't accidentally mistake it for pineapple...I did this last time :(
The Jasmine Milk Tea is delicious and I am liking it. Staff members here are friendlier and service is good. This is something that keeps me coming back. 04/08/2014: Spam Musubi and Taro Milk Tea - a good combo for a quick lunch or snack. 04/16/2014: The Strawberry Milk Tea tastes good with boba. I tried it with grass jelly yesterday, it was bitter. 04/18/2014: The waffle is delicious and it is served with whipped cream and a scoop of chocolate ice cream with bananas. Terrible customer service! We exchanged $1 for four quarters at the counter and used the capsule toy machine inside the store. The capsule dropped, but the retrieval door was broken, so we couldn't get the toy we paid for! We complained to the woman in charge and waited over 30 minutes. She continued running her business, claimed she wasn't responsible, and refused to help or refund us. A broken machine should be marked "Out of Order," not left available for customers to waste their money! It's not about the $1. It's about the complete lack of responsibility and respect for customers. Very disappointing! read more

good price $1.99 for a drink. very flavorful and the boba was very good too. i like this place, i haven't seen a place with this low of a price in a while. the menu was also very big so many selections. i would definetly come back read more

The Jasmine Milk Tea is delicious and I am liking it. Staff members here are friendlier and service is good. This is a good boba spot if you're on the go. When you're craving boba and you need a quick fix. Here's the place to stop! This is only one of two places there is where you can still fill your own toppings. You can choose the size of your cup and whatever you want in it. the price is reasonable for the toppings and size of drink you get. The milk teas here aren't the "natural" ones but the powdered one. So don't expect much. The food here is super cheap! Like I said if you're looking for a quick fix or bite, this place is good for that. Their spam musubi is alright, (2.50) for two pieces is cheap. Although the rice is a bit vinegary and there was no teriyaki sauce with it. Their minced pork is only $2.75, it's filled half with minced pork and half rice with half a tea egg. *beware this is super salty.. The drink helps even out the saltyness but it's still decent. Cheap drinks. Unlimited toppings up to the fill line. CASH only. Also I ordered a oolong tea crema, but got an oolong tea with WHIP CREAM instead. When I brought it up to the cashier, he pointed to a sign "this menu are probably not the same as the photos they are shown". My friend's says the spam and egg rice for $3.50 is really good! read more

The set up is just like Teaway which I dislike. I rather not allow people to dump their own boba/add-ons into their own cups cos all that stuff is out in the open where people can accidentally sneeze or cough on them. But to each their own I guess? I been on a milk tea craze lately and have been wanting to try new things since Tpumps is always full. Coming in, there was already a line nearing the door so I had to wait a bit before I could make my way up to the cash register. I like the fact that they have their cups on the side for people to get along with a line marked on the cup to indicate where people should stop their add-ons. Extra add-ons will cost you about 50 cents more (?). One star off for leaving their straws out in public. They're not even wrapped so I can only imagine what dust had been lying on them. The cashier was nice. Not over friendly, but she was helpful to another customer that I saw was struggling with the menu. After paying and telling the cashier what I wanted, I had to wait for my drink. It didn't take long. Maybe about 5 minutes? And that includes standing in line to pay! I ordered the honey black milk tea and it was good. A little sour, but still yum and there was even little chunks of peaches in it. Or what I hope to be peaches in it.. Overall, this place is decent. So, I came in here because the other Boba spot like two stores down was closed. I was a little excited because I've always wanted to try this place. They seem cool and super fun from the outside. Once inside it all kind of changed. The service was...blah. The moods don't match the vibes this place was giving off which honestly sucked. Like, hellooo I'm ordering a fruity drink with fun toppings can I least feel good ordering it. Nothing worst than smiling at a cashier and being met with a cold stare. The Order: I ordered an avocado smoothie with boba. I didn't get asked what size, how sweet or even if I wanted to try any other toppings. So I just waited to see what was thrown at me. When I got it it looked great. (See picture), but it tasted a lot less great than it looked. I'm honestly wondering if they put baking soda in their mix because this sure as heck wasn't fresh. The Bottom line: Dont expect too many pleasantries, unless they read this and fix it, and don't order the smoothies. read more

It's always the go to tea house on San Bruno Ave bc they give a lot of options. I love their ice cream since it's only $1 per scoop but today I wanted something else. I got the Yakult Lychee Green Tea(24oz) and then banana chocolate crepe for under $10. The drink was good, pretty much tastes like yakult and the crepe was ehh. It could've been better but it's alright. Service here is okay too. They have tables inside and one table outside with chairs. read more
The newest milk tea places have either had giant squat cups (inspired by Half & Half Teahouse) or self-serve drink add ins (inspired by Teaway). Five Tea House has both. Most of the drinks are $2.99. They have milk tea, flavored tea, slushes, and yogurt drinks. The self-serve add ins include various jellies, two sizes of tapioca pearls, red beans, etc. For snacks and desserts they have honey toast, crepes, waffles, ice cream, and egg puffs with fried snacks on the way. * 5 Degree green milk tea ($2.99): The tea part was fine - there was real tea flavor, it wasn't too bitter, it was nice and creamy, sweet but not too sweet. The tapioca pearls weren't good though. They were too hard and not sweetened enough. They have a bonus card for drinks. Cash only. read more

Though the drinks here are fine, the honey toast is what truly stands out. My boyfriend and I stopped by for an afternoon snack, but we ended up skipping dinner that night because the honey toast was so filling. For $7, you get a huge and beautifully put together box. If this isn't Instagram-worthy, then I don't know what is. The bread itself was lightly buttered and perfectly toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. Our Tiramisu Honey Toast included chocolate ice cream, chocolate drizzle, and a small slice of tiramisu cake. The tiramisu seemed like just a bought and frozen cake, and I could tell this by the way the cream tasted a little icy. The ice cream wasn't organic or especially creamy or special, but it's still chocolate ice cream. Who can go wrong with that? The most noteworthy part of the honey toast though is its size, perfectly toasted bread, and beautiful presentation. The Almond Milk Tea tasted fine. It wasn't overly sweet, but the tea flavor didn't stand out too much either. If you're in the area, the milk tea here should be enough to satisfy any fix. I'd go back for more honey toast! read more

Now that the Quickly's nearby has closed due to health issues, this is the only other place that I can get my milk tea/Thai tea fix in San Bruno. The line tends to be quite long and after school hours. At around 1:30 on a Tuesday, the line went out the door with the inside of the small seating quite packed. I decided to get myself a Thai tea. Service was quick despite the line and I was on my way. It treated good compared to other places and there was a special going on. $1.99 for a decent size drink. Not bad! read more
