a black container of food

Since my favourite spot for Thai food has closed down, I've been trying to look for a new pad Thai place. Unfortunately, this isn't it. The pad Thai was bland and dry. The shrimp tasted like they just boiled it, it wasn't seasoned at all. The chicken didn't taste fully cooked. Probably the equivalent of a mediocre fast food joint. I'd save the money and go somewhere else.

I was seated right away, and the staff are all very friend. Some of the dishes were good, while some were a bit lackluster. Overall the portions were very generous.

Panang curry! Sooo delicious!

I have been meaning to try this place for ages so finally on a night out to dinner with a friend we decided to go. Upon entering it is really like your typical thai place but we were seated right away and there were a few other tables filled. My friend and I sat down and were greeted quickly and got water, which they have limes in their water so it was nice and refreshing. We were having trouble decided what to order so I quickly opened the Yelp app and found another reviewer loved the Panang curry and so I went with that and my friend got the crispy noodles. We shared the summer rolls as a start and was pleasantly surprised when they brought two peanut sauces so we didn't have to share the sauce. Our meals came out very quickly and my rice came in the shape of a heart which was a super cute touch. I have to say the panang curry was SO good! Props to yelpers for never leading me astray. It is like a wonderful medly of curry and peanut sauce and the beef and vegetables were perfectly cooked. My friend also enjoyed her crispy noodles. Service was great, they came and refilled our waters and my friend ordered a coffee and they came and offered her more coffee. At one point the service almost felt like we were being rushed but I think it was just they were being attentive because the place wasn't very busy on a Thursday night. I highly recommend people check out this place. It can be overlooked because of its location in a strip mall but don't let that fool you. The food is great and the service is very good so definitely check it out!

Nom Nom Kitchen - Bulgogi and Rice

Saturday night, takeout night! The fam and I went with Nom Nom tonight and chose a couple of…read moredifferent dishes out. The hubby recently got takeout from Nom Nom a couple of weeks ago, and forgot how good it was, while it has been a couple of years since I've had takeout from here. We ordered the sesame balls, veggie spring rolls, sweet potato croquettes, tofu spicy fried noodles, and Singapore noodles. The sesame balls and the veggie spring rolls were reminiscent of the stuff you'd get at an AYCE restaurant, but they were still good. The sweet potato croquettes was a first for me, and they were very much like a large hash brown, but super fluffy inside. My suggestion is to wait for them to cool down a bit and eat them warm or room temperature. My toddler loved these, but I thought they were just OK. The Korean spicy fried noodles was the star of the show, although a bit too greasy for my liking, they did hit the spot. I really enjoyed their take on cooking tofu. I think they took deep fried puffed tofu, flattened it down and fried it with the noodles, where it resembled sliced pork. There was a lot of nice color to it, as well as a slight char, and the texture was amazing. Keep it mind, it was a tad greasy as well. I didn't care for the Singapore noodles. My hubby loves this dish, but said he's had it made better else where, so its all personal preference. I do like that you can customize a lot of the meals into vegetarian meals, so major kudos to that. I don't crave Asian cuisine all that often, so I don't think I will be rushing back, but it was nice to switch things up and try out something new.

Plus all the meals are made to order, the batches are small and this place sells out fast. Ordered the Japanese Miso Ramen and Korean Chicken Bulgogi rice bowl. The Ramen has pork chashu (pork belly I believe) marinated egg, sweet corn, green onion, nori and the miso broth is in a separate container so nothing gets soggy before you eat it. The Chicken Bulgogi was marinated chicken on rice with a taste of kimchi on the side. Great meal, great couple, hope they keep succeeding for a long time.

It was our first-time trying it because the original restaurant we wanted to go to on Somerset was closed, but we were definitely not let down. They open at 11:30 on the weekend and we were a bit early but the staff was super friendly and accommodating- letting us sit down, browse the menu and even place our order before they "officially" opened. Out of all the dine-in korean restaurants we've tried so far in Ottawa (which I know is quite limited and most aren't authentic- but that's not to say they aren't good): Alirang, Maht, Daldongnae, etc. This is definitely top tier AND we will be coming back. As a small business, they are generous with their refillable complimentary side dishes (which is so yum), the flavour HITS, and the service is so good and welcoming. They kept checking in with us, turned down the volume to the TV that we were sitting under, and kept refilling our tea. inside the restaurant is also quite spacious and has comfortable seating arrangements. They have a good selection and apps and also noodles which are more individual meal portions but we decided to share and try everything. On Tuesdays, they have yakitori and I would love to come back to try that. The scallop crudo was lightly seasoned and fresh. I feel like it could have used a bit more citrus but overall it was good! The Korean fried chicken wings/drums were saucy, with something that tasted like a gochujang based sauce, as well as a ranch with dill. I didn't really taste the miso in the ranch too much, but I did enjoy the flavour profile. We also had the chicken karaage, which was lightly breaded and fried, and paired with a mayo. It was ok but a little plain. Next, we had the dan dan noodles. Dan dan noodles are traditionally very chewy have a nice bite to them but these noodles are a bit on the softer side. The flavour profile was good though. Lastly, we had the beast ramen. The smoked pork belly was nice and crisp and the soft boiled egg was nicely cooked. The noodles seem to be the same ones used in the dan dan noodles. It was enjoyable but the broth wasn't exactly ramen broth that I am used to. I would say that overall it was enjoyable, and prices were reasonable. Service was great. But there is definitely some room for improvement on the dishes. I would consider this more Asian fusion than a noodle bar.
