    Lunch portion Pad Thai $11.95.
    Jennifer P.

Chili Thai recently opened in mid-April 2019. They took over the space that used to be Occo Kitchen on St. Joseph, so it's mostly a takeout place, but there is a small counter there where you can eat in if you want (but it would be eating out of the takeout containers). My brother picked up some takeout for lunch for himself, my dad, and I, since we wanted to check up on our dad, who had been fending for himself while my mom was on a vacation getaway with her sisters (poor Dad, lol). We got lunch portions of 4 dishes: the Pad Thai ($11.95), Pad Se-iew ($11.95), Chicken Basil Stir-fry ($9.95), and Beef Penang Curry ($11.95). We got mild for the Pad Se-iew and Curry, and medium spice for the Pad Thai and Stir-fry. These guys aren't joking around with their spice levels. The medium was a true medium, manageable, but spicy enough that my lips were tingling. The Pad Se-iew was good. It had thin slices of lean beef, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms and onions. The noodles were soft. This dish is usually pretty benign in flavour (or at least all the versions that I've had), so I wasn't expecting a flavour punch. The dish was a bit oily for my tastes, but not too bad. The Pad Thai was ok. It didn't taste all that authentic to me and lacked the tang and depth of flavour that I like with this dish. It came with chicken, bean sprouts, eggs, and green onions. The chicken basil stir-fry was good. It had a lot of bamboo in it, which I usually don't like, but these bamboo shoots were slivered and didn't have that funky smell that bamboo sometimes has, so I didn't mind the bamboo. It also had onions, green beans, and bell peppers. There was a subtle basil flavour and since we got it medium spice, it had a kick to it. The chicken was lean and I enjoyed it. It came with white rice. The beef Penang curry was very rich, coconutty and peanutty, lol. It had lean beef slices, bell peppers and peanuts. It came with white rice. Overall, the food was good, but I feel that the flavours weren't as potent or distinctive, with the exception of the Penang Curry. They are new though, so I'll definitely try them again. The parking situation at this restaurant is not great. There are a strip of stores and the parking is just one row right in front of the stores. St. Joseph is a busy street, so if the spots are full, it's hard to maneuver your way in and out.

Fantastic service. Incredible dishes. There is no doubt in why this place is so busy. We absolutely love the food here, generous quantities, packed with flavour and always fresh. We have our same order favorites due to dietary restrictions/allergies. However today I finally tried their famous Sweet beef & raisins dish and let's just say I'm going to have more trouble deciding which dishes to get next order if I keep trying the list of their famous dishes. . Thank you so much to the team there and the care they have for the community.

So, we've always really liked the food at Chili Thai - very tasty! But looking at the lack of cleanliness is becoming very concerning. When I arrived at the front door today, I first thought the place was closed and no longer there, because the door and window were so dirty. Inside is not much better. It makes one question what's going on in the kitchen. Sadly, I would no longer recommend this place.

Had a whirlwind weekend with my daughters birthday+ mothers day + my birthday. But the highlight was the most amazing Chili Thai dinner. I usually stick with the pad thai but decided to branch out, and everything was sooo amazing! We tried the sweet beef with raisins and WOW, it's a new fave!! Also loved the Pad Se Ew. I have new favorites now:) also pictured and delicious were the panang, and a rice with pineapple, cashews and curry. 10/10! Special thanks to Tima for her amazing top notch service. Went above and beyond and we couldn't be more grateful.

The place itself is nice, ample amount of seating available as well. It was not at all busy when we went. The service was good, food came out in a. Timely manner. The food however was a hit and miss. Starting with Chicken Satey skewers 4/5 peanut sauce was great Tom Yum Soup 1/5 this was our least favourite, it tasted like miso soup, & incredibly salty. Panang curry 4/5 probably the tastiest item we tried on the menu that day. It was flavourful. Pad Thai 3/5 it was ok (47) Gai Pad Med Mamuang 2/5 the sauce itself was a bit salty and watery which made the chicken taste as though it had been boiled and mixed with vegetables. I was expecting more of a stir fry. Mango Sticky Rice 5/5 Overall, the hunt continues.

We also learned that ownership has changed which explains it. The ambience is nice and the service, when we went was great, but we got there early and there was nobody else eating, so there's that. I still recommend Sala Thai and if you like this cuisine and haven't yet tried this restaurant, you're missing out. Parking is easy [I'm from New York City so all Ottawa parking is easy] and you need to try it. You don't need a reservation, especially if you go early.

I got the Chicken Pad Khee Mao ($12) and it was excellent. It had a lot of vegetables, which I loved. It had broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, Bok Choy and bean sprouts. The vegetables were all dente which I liked. I normally don't like bean sprouts and I forgot to ask to have them omitted, but it ended up being ok, because the amount of bean sprouts was not excessive and they tasted ok. The chicken was lean chicken breast slices. The thick rice noodles were a good texture, soft but not too soft. The flavour was also excellent. It had a bit of spice but it wasn't too hot. The noodles also weren't too oily. They fry it up in a wok when you order it, so it's very fresh. My friend had their iced tea and a few appetizers and she seemed to enjoy them. The couple working the stand were very welcoming and friendly. Note that the prices at the Farmers' Market are a bit less than on the restaurant menu. Not sure if the portions are smaller, but I think it's a great way to try their food for a bit less. I really enjoyed the Pad Khee Mao and I'm looking forward to trying more items from them.

It didn't come with rice, but I was ok with it. I can drink the broth like a soup. There was lots of variety of veggies and it came hot. The broth was not salty at all which is excellent since I treated like a soup. My partner had the chicken pad Thai. The sauce was not overwhelming and was not sweet at all which was nice. They didn't forget that he wanted extra crushed peanuts. Overall it was a nice satisfying dinner to fill my tummy since the last two places were a disappointment (Blue Cactus and El Camino).

She has a review, so if you're bored reading mine, go read hers instead. I frankly wanted to simply say in this review to read hers and skip writing one... haha! We walked in. The lobby was beautiful and cozy, showcasing the Thai culture with dragons and more. We were seated pretty quickly. This restaurant had a lunch menu. Yay, deals! I got the gang garee gai. It was yellow curry with chicken and potatoes, in coconut milk, with steamed jasmine rice. My friend got the beef kao soi, which was a curry soup with noodles. We got a constant stream of iced water. Thank goodness! We were both in dire need of cooling down being out and about on a hot summer day. It also came in handy while we were dining. Our food didn't take long to prepare. I was excited to chow down. The gang garee gai was yummy. I liked the curry flavour. The chicken was tender. There were a few potatoes that lightly thickened the curry. I loved the subtle coconut milk in the sauce. The jasmine rice was perfectly done. The downside was that the curry was salty. My friend agreed with my assessment, as her soup was also salty. At least the sodium levels were consistent here. She also made the comment that her dish was lacking vegetables, except for a thin slice of red pepper. I could tell that this meal threw my thirst level off the rails for the rest of my day. I had six drinks after this meal, without counting the iced water refills here. I downed two consecutive bubble teas that night, which I rarely do. The positive from the salt increase in my system: I was not bloated afterwards. The washrooms are downstairs. It is an older building, so it's not built for accessibility. The washroom was clean. It's street parking here. You can probably find a side street to park for free. The service was excellent. If the salt is toned down, I'd return to try more dishes off the menu. Otherwise, expect to be thirsty all day after eating here. (287)

After searching around for reviews all over the place, Wandee sounded like they had some had khao soi that was as good as you find in Chiang Mai. Parking in the area is plenty but free parking might be harder to find, either way, lots of parking. It looks like it's mostly a pickup counter and they have a picnic table setup outside and a few other tables. Staff are super friendly. I placed my order oh khao soi and took it to go. When I got home and popped the lid, it smelled pretty nice but looking at the order, I felt like I might have got the wrong order. I poked around in it a little bit and there were definitely noodles in it. Did the taste test...honestly, I'm not sure what it was but it tasted like they may have taken a yellow curry dish and tossed some noodles in it and sent it to go. Wasn't a fan of their khao soi as it was lacking any depth or intensity. It was extremely thick and creamy as well. If this is just their yellow curry, I don't think it's for me. May try a different dish if I return but definitely won't get getting this again.
