I Read about this new coffee place through Instagram but was hard to find it virtually. Still not on google maps and physically they still didn't change the sign outside, it's inside Social Thai but you can't find a sign for it anywhere hehehe.. The indoor seating area is sunny , inviting, small cozy and nice. Coffee is really good and their rolled croissants are a great dessert. I tried both the espresso and lotus . The latter was amazing! Their squash fritters are to die for. Tried their pad kee, red curry and also their special chocolate croissant. For a change, it was so nice to get Thai food in North America that is not overly sweet. Their curry was just outrageous. The special chocolate croissant was a SPECTACULAR idea. However it was a little dried out. This could be because I should have heated it in the microwave for a few seconds? Not sure. Definitely would try other stuff from here if we went back to Ottawa. read more

This place is a must in Ottawa! Definitely in my top 5 restos in the city so far. I've ordered takeout many times and look forward to dining here once they are finished with renovations. My favourite dish is the papaya salad. We order it Thai spicy and the flavour and spice level is spot on! Must try! We also really like the vegetarian spring rolls, mango salad, pad Thai and Pad See Ew. We order Thai spicy cause we love spicy but caution to those who are sensitive to spicy because it definitely is very hot! I've ordered take-out a couple times now since their indoor dining is temporarily closed, and the consistency as well as the flavours are amazing! This is definitely my go-to Thai restaurant in Ottawa. They have various spicy levels on their menu and any meal can be accommodated to any spice level. I've ordered the papaya salad, mango salad, veggie spring rolls, pad Thai and their pad see ew. They've all been so delicious, but the papaya salad is next level. It's honestly one of their best dishes so far that I've had, especially with the added heat from the Thai spicy level. As for their portions, they're quite generous. Between two people and ordering 2 mains and 2 starters, you'll for sure have some leftovers. Overall, I highly recommend checking this spot out. Depends what you go for. If you are a vegan, searching out a good Thai meal, steer clear. My Pad Thai had shrimp. I don't think the concept of vegan was 100% clear. The ambience, if you are going to eat in, is not good. It is much more of a small, very bright cafe than a relaxing restaurant. However, the baked goods looked delicious (non-vegan) and those eating them seemed quite happy. I hate to give them 2-stars because if you went for coffee and a baked good or ordered your Thai food to go, you would have had a different experience than I did. Also, if you weren't vegan you probably would have enjoyed the extra large shrimp in your Pad Thai. And the staff was very friendly. I have to say I didn't like the ordering system. It is all done on a screen and very little detail is supplied nor is there room for substitutions. So there you have it, a two star experience. read more

We ordered Pad Thai and Green Curry Beef last night with some Jasmine rice. The order arrived within 30 minutes. That's fine. I was very impressed with the complex taste of the green curry, the veggies were properly cooked. I did not try the Pad Thai. I was not impressed with the truly paltry amount of "beef" in beef dish. I would estimate that I had a maximum of 10 to 15 grams. (A 1/4 pounder at Mcdonalds is over 100 grams, and yes, it's real beef) The beef itself was only moderately tender and some of it was unchewable gristle. The sauce also had Bay leaves in it. Bay leaves are not edible and should be removed. The rice was very good but only warm. The amount at least was sufficient. This place clearly knows how to make good food, but they don't seem to care much. Would I eat there again? Maybe, I like to give everyone a chance. read more

This place is OK, but I don't think I will be coming back any time soon unless they make some changes to the pricing or portion sizes. I was surprised to find that none of their curry come with rice. The server didn't advise me of this when I ordered so by the time the curry came, I was forced to order a side of rice. If I had know, I would have ordered something else. The prices are a bit steep for what you get since their portions are smaller than other thai places I've been too. My brother was left still feeling a little hungry after his meal. It took a while for them to bring our food, which I understood since it was a Friday night. My brother had originally ordered the chicken pad thai, but they gave him a dish made with rice noodles. When we informed the server this, she insisted that it was what he had ordered. My brother isn't picky about food and didn't have allergies to shrimp (thank god) so we just kept it. The servers were friendly and filled our water frequently, however, they gave us our bill when we were still in the middle of our conversation. It felt like they were rushing us to pay and leave. The decor is nice and they had fancy looking black napkins, however I can't see it lasting very long since the material on the chairs and napkins were not very good quality. You can tell the owners tried to make the place look trendy and unique with the decor and it will definitely draw people in at first, but if they want to keep the customers coming back, they need to give them a better bang for their buck and work on customer service. Pretty unimpressed with this place. We order through ubereats. They didn't have any sticky rice left so they took it off our order without telling us or giving us another order. The staff let us know that we could order rice again through ubereats but they would only cover the cost of the ride. I'm just not sold on this place. The other food we ordered was pretty awful too. The pad see ew was oily and bland. The vegetables were under cooked, but the chicken was cooked through. The shrimp spring rolls didn't have carrots or vermicelli like the menu says. read more

I struggled to give this restaurant two stars and decided that overall it really deserves 1, but I didn't want to come across as unnecessarily harsh. After writing the review, I went back to my first inclination and gave the 1. We ordered through the new UberEats app as I was given a coupon code for $15.00 off an order. We have been looking for a good thai restaurant in the city and always come up disappointed. Sadly, no exception here. We ordered the Tom Ka Gai soup, a favourite of mine and a good yardstick for a thai restaurant beyond the traditional Pad Thai, which we also ordered. Our other entree was the Panang - chicken, with the obligatory side rice purchase so common a problem with thai restaurants. I am not sure I have ever seen anyone eat panang or green curry without an accompaniment, but it seems par for the course, at least in Ottawa that we need to order rice. The pros - Our service was quick - from order to delivery was in about 20 minutes, so that was nice. Our food arrived very hot, another pro with delivery. The cons/food - Our Soup was ok. The flavour was almost right, but it was missing the key ingredient - galang galang, a spice root similar to ginger, which is readily available in the city - I get mine at T & T when I make my soup from scratch. Otherwise it was a decent soup, but at nearly 7 bucks was too expensive, I could have picked up a can of the Campbells' version and been just as, if not more satisfied at a fraction of the cost. The Pad Thai - What a disaster. We didn't even eat 3/4 of it. The flavour was non-existent. I could have just made some of my own rice noodles and tossed some ketchup and peanuts on it and had a better outcome. On the order app we had to choose our spice level, we chose "mild" since Pad Thai isn't to be spicy anyways, it is a sweeter dish when made properly with tamarind, this had no signs of anything. The most flavourful part was the onion, which we thought was odd in Pad Thai. Also lacking was any decent amount of chicken. The Panang - fine. It was ok, the sauce was proper, and it had some red and green peppers tossed in with the small amount of chicken added. However, we ordered "medium" for spice, and it was too hot. They need to work on their spice measures. The side of jasmine rice was fine, but how can you mess that up? I won't be trying them again, and I will continue the search for a decent thai meal in the city. The meal cost 48.00 including the $5 delivery charge. This was way too much for what we received. Small portions, very little protein (chicken) and sub par flavours. We felt ripped off, and this morning my stomach has revolting my decision to order. read more

Social Thai is a pretty good restaurant. I've been there a few times at this point in order to be fair about my review. The decor is unique and trendy giving it a nice vibe where it's almost fancy but still casual. The food comes in small portions, but it tastes great. I've tried a few of their items such as the tom yum soup, pad thai, pad se ew, spring rolls and more. It is pretty authentic to its culture. The lunch menu is a great price, but dinnertime is a bit pricier. The drinks are very good and the server who served us a few times now gives great service. He is very efficient at his job; making our drinks and serving other tables as well, with little help. However, it seems like the owners or friends of the owners are constantly in the restaurant talking very loudly. In fact, today right when my boyfriend and I walked in the restaurant, I hear some man yelling pretty loudly in the back corner of the restaurant. I understand that they are just sitting in the back corner, somewhat away from the customers, but it can be very distracting, and takes away the nice vibe. It seems very unprofessional and makes it kind of an uncomfortable environment for customers because it seems like we're intruding in their home to eat. From other people's reviews, seems like I'm not the only one who's noticed their unprofessionalism. Overall, food and service was great, but the owners need to work on making it more of a professional environment. read more

Hands down the best Thai restaurant I've ever had in North America. They've got a lovely decor, with a Thai chef, and the service is impeccable because it's a family-run, cozy restaurant in the heart of downtown Ottawa. Everything is absolutely delicious so you can't go wrong with whatever you order. I went back the next day to eat again because it was so good. Try green curry on the candle-lit burner or mango salad. Pad Thai is awesome too. Tom Yum soup is so yummy. Honestly just go and try it yourself -- two thumbs up and I'll go back whenever I'm in town. :) read more

This place has the best stir fry in ottawa it's got very vibrant colours burst of excellent flavours not greasy at all well done noodles that are cooked perfectly and seasoned well me and my friends love this thai spot I would have given it five stars if it wasn't for the inconsistency of spiciness I have ordered mild,medium and spicy and mild is the only one with consistent spice level the medium can sometimes be very mild or very spicy the next one up is spicy and it was again amazing but impossible to finish as the spice was very very spicy and I love spicy so that's something to keep in mind read more

My husband and I selected this spot because it was close to our hotel and it was raining (we didn't want to take the car out of the parking garage). What a treat this little spot was. We had the Tom Yum soup - very flavorful, with subtle lemon grass and galangal flavors and a nice amount of heat - and the Burmese tofu, which had nice crispy edges and a creamy center, and came with a fairly sweet tamarind dipping sauce. Both very tasty starters. For dinner we shared a beef Pad See Ew (not sure I spelled that right!) and a chicken Pad Ka Pow. Again, both flavorful with a nice amount of heat (we ordered the medium spice level, recommended for if you like "just a little spice"). The veggies were perfectly crisp-tender. Neither dish included an abundance of our selected protein, but it was enough. The rice for the Pad Ka Pow had to be ordered ala carte (it's not included with the dish). The decor was modern and not at all kitschy, the place clean. Service was friendly but maybe a little slow, considering we were one of just three tables occupied (in fairness, they seemed to be doing a brisk take-out and UberEats business). If we end up in town again, we'd look it up for dinner - and definitely the Tom Yum soup! read more
