The Tom Kha soup was alright. The rice in the mango sticky rice had some hard pieces to chew. The workers were friendly, though seemed a bit disorganized as separate people came to ask us the same thing. The decor is very fun. read more

Came for dinner after visiting the National Gallery with family The restaurant seems pretty popular, busy and cozy. We had Laab Kai Whitcomb, Mango Salad, Kana moo Grobb, Khao Thai Tom Yum, Pad Se leu. Food came out pretty quickly after ordering. Portions were delicious and filling though Laab Kai Whitcomb wasn't my taste. Though it may be a but sweet for some, the Thai Iced Tea was not what I was expecting (in a good way). It was really good and is one of my favorite drinks. read more

This place was very yummy and authentic! It was pretty packed when I went so I would recommend calling ahead. The service was great, I ask for recommendations and the lady was very kind and suggested dishes. There was a perfect amount of spice when getting the regular spice level. The restaurant is very cozy and well decorated. Unfortunately, the rice is not included with the curry so don't forget to order with a side of rice. read more

I would call it one of the healthy thai versions of thai cuisine. The service was prompt and the ingredients were fresh. The smell of the restaurant was absolutely fantastic. Nothing draws you more than the smell. The dishes were pretty tasty and on-point. The dishes were more on the sweet side rather than savoury but that's a specific preference and might change with each person's taste. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

I'm so mad I didn't know this place did vegan pad thai's earlier. I went in for lunch and got myself the vegan pad thai (no eggs, fish sauce) and it was delish! Its been soo long since I've had a pad thai and this place def hit the spot. Once I actually placed my order the meal came super quickly and everything tasted great, I find most places use so many pieces of tofu or mung beans to add volume to the dish but here it was nicely balanced. All the wait staff was great and the service to fill your water or to take your place away was extremely quick. My only issue was the washroom light was broken so I had to use my phone to use it lol. Its located downtown in a nicely decorated spot. Forgot to take a photo cause I was way too hungry read more

Really quaint place in downtown Ottawa . Food was authentic Ordered several curry dishes Beef curry Green curry Along with skewers and some wonderful noodle dishes Service is excellent Attentive Hip and cool Outdoor area is nice and not fancy but tasty casual spot and highly recommend!! read more

Service was great, and it was clearly a popular choice in the byward market area. The reason for the three stars, rather than 4, was because my dish really missed the mark: khao soi. It just tasted off and the flavor was not right. Otherwise, the mango salad and chicken pineapple fried rice were very good. I also found it a little pricey, especially the drinks. They have outdoor dining and we had little trouble securing a table on a Saturday without a reservation. Of all of the other thai food options in the area, this one seemed the best. read more

Service was great. Although, we did not have a reservation and it was incredibly busy the hostess offered us a table outside and we sat within 5 minutes. Highly recommend reservations to make sure you get to taste their delicious food. We had the vegetable soup, Green Curry, and the Pad Khee Mao and it all had amazing flavors and was so good! You will need to order a side of rice for your Curry dishes. I always seek a good Thai restaurant and I'd say this was the best Green Curry I've had thus far! read more

Exceptional. This is truly the most flavourful thai I have had outside of Thailand. Deep, rich flavour. The plating and even serving of the drinks was tastefully done. We had the Har Mok (salmon in coconut), thai iced tea, fruit punch mock tail, Tom yum gai soup, chicken wings, and " general Thai chicken". All delicious! We randomly chose this place because it was a bit further away from the hustle and bustle. We did not regret. This place is just so good with fresh ingredients and their brilliant way of bringing together texture , colour and diversity of sweet , sour , savoury etc. Can't say enough about the Har Mok. I wasn't finished until I scraped all the jelly coconut off the inside of the coconut and savoured every bite. So divine. Please go. Very nice outside patio. read more

Oh the flavours.... Oh the flavours! The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful but service lacked in terms of sometimes it was hard to have a questions answered. This food was tasty that I went a second time a few days later. They have a delicious cocktail section to choose from. Location is fantastic if you done have a car but may drive around a bit to find parking. read more

Very delicious and affordable Thai food in downtown area. My colleague and I ordered lunch combo A and combo B, which comes with tea, soup, fried vegetable roll and main dish. Considering that we arrived 45 mins before closing, we had plenty seating options and opted to seat in a 4-person table. It definitely gave a Thai restaurant atmosphere without being too cliche and overload with southeast Asia decorations. Dish was quickly served after ordering. The only issue I had was the vegetable soup. It had too much pepper for my liking. read more

Pretty good, I've ordered delivery 2x and I liked every option. I thought the soups were good - but overpriced. The menu options are less than many Thai restaurants, but I did like the quality of the dishes. I liked the green bean meat dish, even the salmon curry (not something I usually like) I would order again read more

Probably the best Thai cuisine in town so far, in my opinion. Sitting at patio is very relaxing. Having a little drinks in such nice decorations. The owner put up a lot of effort on how the dishes and drinks look like. My favorite dish is the Coconut salmon! Sometimes I found the taste and the tableware, especially the way they used to decorate the wine changes once a while. Don't know if they lack of the tableware at that moment or it's their way of making changes. Love this place! read more

A quite pleasurable experience. To start, we ordered a Hot Toddy with rum that was amazing. The hot tea-like beverage boasted citrus flavours from lemons and oranges. It warmed the throat and tummy a little bit extra with the added rum. Great drink for a colder day. The tom yum soup was good and seemed to be made traditionally. The fish sauce flavour was a bit too strong for my liking. The grapow was scrumptious, the crushed chillies blended the dish together seamlessly. The dish relied on the flavours from the vegetables and did not seem to have many added spices. This made is feel very healthy and satisfying to eat. read more

Food was fresh, and Cashew Chicken had a bit sweeter sauce than I've had before. Pad Thai was very good, not spicy. Red Curry was very satisfying. It was a busy evening, lots of people in the restaurant. Lovely Thai decor. read more

Khao Thai was an absolute pleasure. The salmon in a coconut was a generous proportion and exceptionally tasteful; you could even eat the inside of the coconut which was seasoned by the red curry. I expected the curry to be hot, but it was just simply a joy that I didn't want to stop eating. Will return ASAP! read more

Looking for a change of pace in Byward Market in Ottawa and we found a fantastic Thai Restaurant. Food Was Excellent .. better than most of the food that I've had in Bangkok , Pattaya, Hua Yin, etc ... The Restaraunt was warm with vibrant candle lights and everything about the decor just matched as if you were having a fine dinner or Lunch in Bangkok. This place is a great change of pace ... where there's your basic Pizza , burgers, Shwarma, Vietnamese Pho., etc...... all over, and pretty average. This place is way above average and I'd have to say its EXCELLENT. read more

I happen to walk by this restaurant in Ottawa (located in ByWard market) and decided to give it a try. I went in on Monday evening around 8:30 PM. It wasn't too crowded. The ambience is quite cozy and there are plenty of seating options. Service was pretty quick. They seems to have a good collection of spirits, cocktails and wine. I ordered an Old Fashion (with Canadian Rye whiskey) and it was served under a smoke jar which lended a sweetish smoky flavor to the drink. I decided to order a curry dish and requested Geang Panang with chicken and medium hot level. The food was served within 5-7 mins after placing the order. The curry had such a great balance of spice, salt and sugar with a fine balance between the chicken and herbs. The rice needs to be ordered separately. I had steamed white rice and the portion size were adequate for a single person. The price is reasonable - not too expensive. The staff was very courteous and attentive. This restaurant will definitely take a position in the list of my top 25 Thai restaurant. If I get a chance, I will certainly visit again. read more

I wouldn't say no to coming back, but I wouldn't expressly want to come back either. Service: the waiter was so nice and attentive, really trying to make sure we chose the best meal for ourselves, no problem there. Food: the portions really varied depending on what you order, but the prices weren't quite proportional to the meal. For example, my friend got a huge plate of rice and general tao chicken for the same price as my measly papaya salad. And my papaya salad was spicy but didn't taste like much otherwise. My friend's chicken was good though, but general tao isn't hard to make either. I would want to come try a pad thai dish next time. Decor: small cosy and elegant atmosphere. read more

We loved this restaurant. Food was excellent, service was good, also very nice ambiance.

The service was excellent but the food was bland. Tried Pad Thai, and few other dishes.

The food at Khao Thai is very comparable to what you would get at a Thai Express: not exactly fresh (we spotted a few frozen ingredients), overly sweet, clearly westernized, and served in a heap as if someone had dumped the content of a take-out container on your plate after it was microwaved. For a 100$? We were very disappointed. Not recommended. read more

i mean......... SO GOOD! we ordered pad thai, general thai chicken, some por pia pak (spring rolls) and sticky rice. everything was beyond delicious, super fresh, and ginormous portions! also I would like to note that most of the packaging was either plastic free or reusable containers, which I extra loved. the pad thai was perfectly saucy, topped with peanuts, bean sprouts and a lime wedge, there was lots of chicken and tofu throughout. the spring rolls were crispy and the dipping sauce was delightful. the general thai chicken was seriously enough to feed multiple people, and came with fresh steamed veggies and fluffy rice, again perfectly saucy, sweet and spicy in just the right way. definitely enjoyed the leftovers for breakfast the next morning! absolutely will be ordering again (can't wait!) read more

This is the best Thai restaurant in Ottawa. Period. The service is great. The food is fantastic. The interior is quite fitting. It's super close to the Byward Market district - a great place to explore in and of itself. Every time I go to Ottawa, I consider it my duty to pay Khao Thai a visit in order to have their pad thai. It's better than any pad thai that I've tried in Toronto. The pad thai is on the expensive side, I'm not going to lie, but consider it a treat next time you go there ;) Next time I'm in Ottawa, I will for sure visit Khao Thai for some pad thai. read more

The food is great but as soon as you finish your plate they ask you to leave. I was meeting a friend there and within 45 minutes we were asked to leave. Our bill was $120 plus 20% tip. We expect to be there at least an hour to eat and chat. We were asked to order right when we sat down and when we left there was no one waiting to be seated. I won't be going back here. It is a glorified takeout restaurant. I am giving them 4 stars for the taste and quality of their food but will never go into the restaurant again. read more

Came here for an ottawa trip. This thai resto delivered on taste, service and atmosphere. It looks gorgeous inside with thai art hanging all over the wall. The servers wore nice red thai dresses and were very quick and friendly. Ordered the chicken skewers. They were a very good portion and so meaty. The pad see-ew was amazing along with the basil beef. I highly recommend this one out of all the thai restos in the bymarket area. Pricing is about average for an upscale thai resto. 4 stars overall. **** read more

Food and decor was ok, price was surprisingly decent for a restaurant right in the market - there's a but however. The one time I went (with about 10 other ppl), they were extremely skimpy on the protein (meat or seafood). So although the price was reasonable, you basically get a plate of veg with about 4 or 5 slices of meat or seafood. Better off finding the nearest Green Papaya if you're in the mood for good Thai. read more

Really 4.5 . Located in Byward Market in Ottawa downtown. A favorite eatery for Thai food. Delicious, great atmosphere and great service. We ordered salmon with red curry sauce served in a coconut, a chefs choice and a beef egg noodles dish. Finished our evening with fried bananas topped with a sprinkle of chocolate and powder sugar icing. The Good: For the quality of food, the price is affordable $$. The Bad: it's pretty popular so you may end up with a small table- you can hear the next table's conversation lol! The Ugly: Not much...parking always difficult. Tip: call to reserve a table a day before. read more
