I've been to Sweet Basil before - maybe 5 years ago. I remembered it being good but nothing earth shattering. I had some customers in town for Lunch and they decided on Thai. The restaurant is nice inside, in spite of its being in a blah area down Bank St. The combination platter was lovely and very filling for $17. Delicious chicken curry, beef dish and veggies, with spring roll and rice. Service was warm and friendly. Definitely will come back.

The ambience and decoration of Sweet Basil Restaurant is really nice... with a lot of Authentic Thai decoration... I would have to say that authenticity ended here.... Dropped by for lunch. Yes they do have lunch specials. The Tom Yum Soup we order was really oily... yes I can see them floating in the dim dark lighting. And it is basically some slice mushrooms floating in a clear broth... The Pad Thai though tasted ok.. but is the first one that we ate that is spicy. I ordered this especially since it is not spicy... but anyway. The portion is small for $10.95. The Dried Red Curry chicken over noodle is ok. Maybe choices for Thai food up in Ottawa is limited and for sure my Sweet Basil experience was disappointing. They accepts all credit cards.

Curry shrimp dish. My wife try's a different dish every time.

We drove past this gem many times. We were out one evening and decided to try it out. So glad we did. This restaurant is a gem. It is now in our regular eating out spot rotation. We drive from Orleans to dine here. The staff is amazing, the kitchen staff gets it right every time. Thank you Sweet Basil!

The fried dumplings paired extremely well with the dipping sauce. Had the pad kee mao for my entree and it was great. If you don't like spicy please ask for it mild because the chef is heavy handed with the spices (defaults to medium). The green tea ice cream is also very good.

I have been to Thailand four times and, eventually, grew less timid about the local food and soon began eating the real deal from street vendors. In fact, during one trip to Northern Thailand, up near the Myanmar border, my wife and I stayed at a hill tribe village and the locals taught us how to cook some basic recipes. Back in Canada, the choices for Asian food were slim - mostly that Americanized Chinese food or sushi...at least until we discovered Sweet Basil. Talk about authentic Thai - the spices, the ambiance, the prices....well, NOT the prices. I paid next to nothing in Thailand for food (and everything else!) but Sweet Basil is a bit pricey. But, it is totally worth it. You must go!

A nice place for some tasty Thai food. They got my spice level perfect and they had many many selections. All the classics done solid!

Good service, quiet ambience, big portions of very tasty Thai food. We will go again and probably will try take out, too.

Even though we came mid-afternoon, the restaurant was still packed and we had to wait for a table, but it ended up being completely worth it. We ordered the traditional noodles and the braised beef noodle in both Joye and Two Xi styles so we could try the different noodle types. The broth tasted just as amazing as it smelled, rich, comforting, and super warming. The noodles were perfectly chewy. I basically inhaled my bowl. The only thing that wasn't super memorable was the meat, but honestly the noodles and broth were the stars anyway. It is a little on the pricier side, but the portions are huge and incredibly filling. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when I'm craving a comforting bowl of noodles.

I ordered the bean sauce and hand pulled noodles and my wife ordered the vegetable noodle soup. Both were delicious! The service was great - the food came out so quick and they poured us water frequently! The ambiance was nice - a smaller hole in the wall restaurant. The only thing we didn't like was we were sat between (and really close to) two separate tables and could clearly hear both conversations. We would've liked to be sat elsewhere but that's okay - something to consider! All in all great experience!

We ordered the beef rendang , the mixed satay , the five star chicken , the Bali beef , the chili jumbo shrimp , the spring roll , platters of traditional rice , couple of fish dishes. We did not order any noodle dishes although reviews say theyare good Quickly to the pros and cons Pros 1. The tassste : of course my fav was jumbo chili shirmp , with a sweet tangy taste and spice tastes amazing with the rice ; if you are ordering it take it with the white rice and not traditional . The traditional is basmati fried and white is boiled rice Shortly behind that comes beef Bali sautéed with onions . The whole corianders fried wit this dish just hit the right notes and the onions were sweet enough , the sauce was great , the beef rendang was a little too spicy for 3 stars and I won't say that the five star chicken is a must fry , but it's dilute sauce so it goes pretty well with rice 2. The consistency / all dishes were consistently great The not so special ones are as follows imho The five star chicken , the snicker pie and the shaved ice dessert 3. The service : quick and lot of knowledge will be shared if you ask the right questions , they don't push sell , the lady who served was very gracious and kind 4. Complimentary shrimpy fryums 4. Parking : ample space around the building . The Vietnamese ham and shrimp balls and beef shank in the bo bun hue were nicely prepared. Service was fast. Lots of staff taking turns waiting on tables. We arrived at 2pm and the place was full. Prices are a tad higher than other places but the portion sizes are generous to match, especially the meat. I had the #47 Hủ tiếu thập Cẩm -- aka Chicken broth rice noodle soup with everything: Satay Shrimp, Shrimp Cake, BBQ Pork, Tofu, and Ground Pork. I love the fried shrimp cakes so I often order this kind of soup when it's available. It was perfect and I can't wait to go back! My greedy eyes always want to order the Large but this Medium was perfect and the most soup I could possible fit into my belly. Service and ambiance are both good. Booths are a little cramped so your feet will interfere, and there are some mildly obnoxious flashing festive light strings. But it's easy to overlook those hiccups because the food is spot on. I can also recommend the rice dishes from previous visits!
