    Bo Kho
    Michelle L.

The Bo Kho was delicious and generously portioned, (noodle and meat) which made up for the price compared to other Viet noodle restaurants in the area.

Great food and friendly staff! I had the rare beef noodle soup and really enjoyed it. Even the smallest size gave enough leftovers for two more lunches! I'll definitely be back!

I had an oddly timed meal here around 3:30pm on a weekday, so it was pretty quiet. There was 1 couple and 2 other single patrons in the whole restaurant. Overall the food was good and service was quick. I was greeted right away and advised I could sit anywhere I wanted. The server brought me the menu with a piece of paper and a pen. I wrote down my order, grilled beef and grilled shrimp vermicelli ($10.25), along with my special requests: "no sesame seeds, no bean sprouts and no fish sauce." The server then came and took my paper. Then he brought me a pot of complimentary tea. When I got my order, it did not have sesame seeds in it (yay!), but they brought me fish sauce on the side, not a big deal, but just a bit of a waste, and there were rogue bean sprouts in my dish. Now I don't have any life-threatening (immune) allergies; I just have food intolerances (gastrointestinal) which can make me sick, but won't kill me, and of course I have preferences and dislikes. So if a restaurant gives me something I requested not to have, it's not too grave. However, if you have a life-threatening allergy, you may want to take note of my experience. Anyway, the BBQ beef and shrimp were delicious. The beef had a strong lemongrass flavour, which was not mentioned on the menu. I like lemongrass, but if you don't, you might want to pass on the beef. The beef slices were a bit thick which made some pieces really chewy. The beef was not as tender as I would have liked, but at least it was lean and not gristly. The shrimp did not have lemongrass on it, but it was well-seasoned and flavourful. I got 5 good-sized shrimp. Some still had the tails on them, but they were all properly deveined. The vermicelli was steaming hot - oh yeah, that's how I like it! The shredded lettuce, cucumbers and carrots were fresh. I obviously did not have any of the fish sauce that was served to me on the side, but I could smell it and it was pungent. Definitely not recommended for those new to fish sauce. I tried to push the bowl farther away from me but then accidentally spilled some and that just made things worse. Doh! Once you're done, you pay at the cash register. Service was functional and neutral. Not super nice, but not rude nor unpleasant. Once you get your food, they don't check up on you again. The restaurant is in a strip mall with lots of free parking. I may come back to try their noodle soups.

Cơm bo nương ga nương (BBQ beef and BBQ chicken on rice) with extra meat
    Amanda B.

I really wanted Vietnamese food, but I wanted to try something new instead of ordering my standard phở or bun. My husband, on the other hand, stuck with his regular cơm, this time cơm bo nương ga nương (BBQ beef and BBQ chicken on rice) with extra meat, and thoroughly enjoyed it, as usual. I got one piece of nem chau (sour pork), an order of banh cuon cha lua (Vietnamese dumpling with sausage), the hu tiêu bo kho (spicy stewing beef with rice noodles), and two fresh coconut juices (yes, two). I wanted to try the sour pork because I don't remember ever having it before, but when it came, I knew that had definitely tried it before. There were a couple slices of chili peppers and green onions, which went well with it, and it would be great with some rice, but not sure it was worth the $3 price tag per small piece. I've only had banh cuon maybe once before, so long ago that I can't even remember when. The rice sheets were so thin and had a balanced proportion of ground pork and wood ear mushrooms, and the fresh green onions and crispy fried shallots on top were a nice addition for texture and flavour. It also came with slices of Vietnamese pork sausage, cucumber, bean sprouts, and nước chấm, which went perfectly with it. My chopstick skills aren't perfect, though, because I kept ripping them when trying to pick them up since they'd stick together and I clearly was not graceful (or patient) enough to separate them. I couldn't get enough of the hu tiêu bo kho! There are only two sizes, medium and large, and even the medium had a generous amount of noodles. There were a few large carrot pieces and I originally wished there was more beef, but it ended up being just the right amount for me. The beauty of having it delivered is that the noodles and sliced onions come separately from the beef and broth, so I was able to split it to save leftovers for later without the noodles soaking up all of the broth. The carrots and beef were very tender, perfectly cooked. Some might say the beef was too fatty or should have been trimmed more, but I loved it with the fat on and really enjoyed the flavour. The broth was also flavourful, not too spicy at all. It was the first time I had ever tried this dish, but it tasted familiar. My husband even tried it and thought it tasted great, and he's pretty picky. Such a warm, comforting dish. Great noodle soup that was a nice change from phở. Just what I was looking for! But don't wear a white shirt like I did. Mistakes were made. I have no excuse for ordering two coconut juices other than I wanted to ;) I hardly ever have it, so I took the opportunity to have two, again, saving one for later. Very fresh, not too sweet, and the young coconut was super tasty and both tender and firm at the same time, if that makes any sense. If you know, you know. Prices for delivery were a bit higher than we were used to or expected, but I think they're likely on-par with other places, we just haven't eaten out at a restaurant in awhile. We'll order from here again for sure!

    Pho

Ordered large bowl of mixed meat pho. Came with large shoe lace size noodles. Undercooked. Little meat. Inferior pieces of steak. Stock not too bad. Indifferent service. Wife got basil chicken. Again inferior pieces of meat. Not tasty at all. Bok Choy was okay. Have had much better pho elsewhere

    Squid patties noodle soup!
    Mimi J.

This place is run by Chinese employees, but their noodle dishes are surprisingly quite authentic! I came because my neighbors told us their noodle soups are good. What I got: - 629 mini squid patties and tomato with vermicelli: if you do not like DILL, do NOT get this dish. I don't prefer dill unless it's in a sauce with salmon, so it was overpowering in this dish. Surprsingly, they used fresh dill, which made it even stronger...sigh. If there was no dill then I would of loved this dish! The squid patties were the best part, there were maybe 6-7; they should add more. They were tender and lightly fried so super flavorful. I would ask for rice noodles next time as I dislike the slippery shanghai noodles (it was NOT vermicelli). - 627 spicy stewing beef with rice noodle: the beef and carrots were very tender. It was not too spicy, and flavours were yummy and hearty. One thing about both noodle dishes was that I could tell there was cornstarch in them to thicken the broth, which I do not prefer. All other places do not add cornstarch. With cornstarch, the soup is not as thin, and does not help to satisfy thirst (I love just drinking spoonfuls of broth only in between bites of noodles and meat)! Atmosphere is really modern and cozy, and they have ample A/C. There is also satay sauce at every table, so no need to ask! Service is attentive and food arrives quite quickly. What would make it better: LOWER prices. The specials I got above were around $12 for a medium size.

    Hair from soup

Dirty tables not cleaned between customers. Slow service to take order. Food quickly arrives. A nice bowl of rice noodles and shrimp wonton. THEN - a nice long human hair in my soup. Stay away.

    Rice with pork chops
    Kim B.

The food tasted great, came out relatively fast. The service was excellent, the space and atmosphere was nice with a pretty opened concept. The serving sizes were fair to its price, the only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is due to a lack of parking space and it being located on such a busy road, isn't the most conevenient (especially during traffic hour). Other than that though, I'd definitely come back to dine again.

The place was very steady but we got one of the few remaining tables. The menu has a lot on it and there is another, separate menu for specials. The complimentary herbal tea was nice and hot for a very cold day. Ordered was a pho for me, extra spicy and my friend got a beef and veg dish and they subbed her noodles for rice upon her request and accommodated her peanut allergy. The food was good, also. I ordered us shrimp spring rolls to start, 2 to an order. Very good. $6. The entrees... My broth was nice, albeit mild. Not that clovey taste I've experienced at other places. My pho had shrimp, beef and chicken. It was a house specialty so it only came in a medium size. This was fine as I ordered extra noodles for $2.50 to go and had some at home for dinner tonight. And, it will feed me for lunch one more time tomorrow. The containers were leak proof and the liquid survived the drive home. The staff were unobtrusive yet attentive and kind. Said to be family owned and that everything is homemade. I'll return! I love Vietnamese food and love supporting these places. I will avoid weekends though as I was told people are lined up at the door for seating. Was it the best I have ever had? When I arrived the place was moderately busy, but i was greeted immediately. The restaurant itself is very cute and cozy. I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner. As we were walking out, my children noticed someone eating pho and even requested we come back. I ordered the Vermecelli with chicken and I am so grateful I did. There was so much chicken and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Even the salad was green and fresh, along with cucumber that had been cut into tiny strips. It also came with two fried spring rolls. I prefer regular spring rolls, but they were delicious, very crispy and flakey. I prefer my vermecelli completely mixed, so I added the dressing, shut the takeout box, and shook it up. This made it easier to have noodles, greens, and chicken with every bite. I was too hungry to think to take a photo, but will add some on future visits. Definitely recommend and will absolutely be back!

The chicken was lean and a tiny bit dry, but still flavourful a tasty. The shrimp were medium sized and ok. Not that plump nor juicy, but for the price, not surprising. The spring roll was mostly wrapper and too oily for my liking. The rice dish came with fresh cucumbers and pickled radishes and pickled carrots. The vermicelli dish came with shredded lettuce and bean sprouts, which were underneath the vermicelli. It also came with pickled carrots and crushed peanuts. The fresh vegetables were fresh and the picked vegetables had a good sour bite to them. We also got a tub of fish sauce, which neither of us like, but my dad does, so I saved it and gave it to him on the weekend when I went to see my parents. I appreciated that they labelled the fish sauce with a warning to open slowly (with a smiley face, lol). Food is packed in styrofoam, which is not my preference for environmental and health reasons. Service was very courteous and efficient. I was told it would be 25 minutes. I returned in 22 minutes and they were just tying up the bag. Perfect timing! Note that the prices on their takeout menu (pictured) are outdated. My dishes were listed as $9.50 each on the menu, but I was charged $11.75, which is still a great deal. Prices have gone up as a result of the Covid Pandemic, so I get it. I would just suggest that they print new takeout menus. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path in Chinatown.
