Menu. Only managed to get a pic of 1 page, sorry, lol.

I had lunch here and overall the food was ok. Service was very nice and friendly, and I got my food really quickly. When I entered, I was greeted right and given my choice of where to sit. I was given complimentary hot tea (in a glass) and the menu. While I appreciated the hot tea, it was difficult to drink while hot because the glass was too hot to hold except for at the very top of the glass. I think serving hot tea in a mug would be better, or cold tea in the glass. I ordered the B08 - Grilled beef with spring rolls vermicelli ($12). It usually comes with fish sauce, but I don't like fish sauce, so they gladly substituted peanut sauce (although the peanut sauce smelled somewhat fishy to me, lol). I also asked that they hold the bean sprouts, and my dish arrived without bean sprouts as requested. The beef was very thin, so I felt I didn't actually get that much protein in my meal. Flavour-wise it was ok. Adequately salted and seasoned, so while not bland, no real flavour impact. I did like that the beef was lean and there were no fatty or gristley pieces. I got 2 spring rolls. They were hot and crispy and filled with ground pork, shrimp, carrots, clear vermicelli, and I believe taro as well. The wrapper was the usual wheat-based wrapper and not the more authentic rice paper wrapper that I prefer. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the spring rolls. The veggies were shredded lettuce, mint leaves, pickled carrots and pickled daikon radish. There were also crushed peanuts. The vermicelli was nicely cooked, not too mushy but not too dry. The place is not large and only seats 28 people. I think they are very heavy handed with the fish sauce here because I got a strong whiff of it when I entered the restaurant. If you love fish sauce, you can come and bask in the aroma, if you are not a fan, you have been forewarned. The server was polite and efficient. Overall, not a bad place for a quick and inexpensive meal, but I personally was not wowed.

This is my new favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Ottawa. I ordered grilled pork with Vietnamese fried rice rolls on vermicelli. All the ingredients were very fresh. The rice rolls contained ground pork, ground shrimp, mushrooms and vermicelli. They are by far the nicest ones I have had in Ottawa. I will be back to try other dishes.

Great family-run Vietnamese restaurant right off of Somerset. We had a large pho (raw beef, well done beef, tendon, tripe and meat balls) and a tomato and fish cake soup with bun noodles. The pho broth was flavourful, on the slightly sweeter side, and the tomato soup was savoury and had a very interesting taste, since it was garnished with dill. There were many other interesting dishes on the menu, so we will definitely have to come back to try them all!

Bún ch cá & ch mc (fish cake and squid cake noodle)

We got Bún cha Hà Noi ($14) and Bún cha cá & cha muc ($11) - Bún cha Hà Noi: it's really really good! The meats are very well marinated. I usually just liked the grilled meats and always left the meatballs to my husband since they're either too dry or bland or weirdly marinated, but the meatballs here are big and juicy (I think being big helps it become juicy). They also taste authentic. I'm pregnant so I can't eat raw veggies, also I'm just a sucker for Bún (the noodle) in general, so I asked them to replace the veggies with the noodle and they happily did that so I got a very nice portion of bún. The sauce is perfect: it's warm, lightly sweet and sour and not too salty. I ate it Hanoi style (put the noodle and the meat into the sauce bowl and eat from there) and it really helped satisfy my crave. I tried this bún cha Hà Noi dish in Montreal and it was also very good there and huge and looked authentic, yet this one in Ottawa still tastes better (sauce is not as salty as the one in Montreal and meats are juicier and marinated better). Overall I'm happy with it! - Bún cha muc cha cá: My husband got this and I tried it and I liked it too. The fish cake and squid cake tasted really fresh and not frozen. My husband didn't like this broth as much as the one at Huong's place since it didn't have crab paste. However in my opinion I'd choose the fresh tastes of fish cake and squid cake over the crab paste taste of broth any time. In short, we're super happy with our meal and we'd be a regular here for sure!

The place was very steady but we got one of the few remaining tables. The menu has a lot on it and there is another, separate menu for specials. The complimentary herbal tea was nice and hot for a very cold day. Ordered was a pho for me, extra spicy and my friend got a beef and veg dish and they subbed her noodles for rice upon her request and accommodated her peanut allergy. The food was good, also. I ordered us shrimp spring rolls to start, 2 to an order. Very good. $6. The entrees... My broth was nice, albeit mild. Not that clovey taste I've experienced at other places. My pho had shrimp, beef and chicken. It was a house specialty so it only came in a medium size. This was fine as I ordered extra noodles for $2.50 to go and had some at home for dinner tonight. And, it will feed me for lunch one more time tomorrow. The containers were leak proof and the liquid survived the drive home. The staff were unobtrusive yet attentive and kind. Said to be family owned and that everything is homemade. I'll return! I love Vietnamese food and love supporting these places. I will avoid weekends though as I was told people are lined up at the door for seating. Was it the best I have ever had? No but it fit the bill and I'm glad I live close by as there are 100 other dishes I'd like to try.

The portion was pretty substantial too. My boyfriend got the Bun Rieu ($14) which is a crab/tomato/pork broth based noodle soup. I had a taste of the soup and it was also really good! I especially loved that they give you a full variety of herbs to add to the soup noodles, which not all Vietnamese restaurants do these days. We were lucky in our timing and managed to sit as we arrived. We always order spring rolls and rice wraps no matter where we go, and these were good. Our table enjoyed a variety of soups from a basic chicken and egg noodle to rare beef rice noodle and two special soups, one based on a traditional broth and the other Tom Yum. The traditional broth was good, flavorful and fragrant. The Tom Yum had just the right amount of heat, but was too much of a good thing for me to really enjoy it fully. The portions were good, quick and delicious. Definitely would visit again!

The service is very friendly and efficient from the moment you enter. On to the food. What I don't like is when the fresh spring rolls are made in advance and are left out until someone orders. The rice paper becomes dry and chewy and that ruins it. Sadly, Chez Lam served them like that, so they can be better. The pho soup was great. There is good flavor and ingredients are fresh. They have all the condiments on the table. I like my soup with more onion shavings and shallots but it was still tasty. I found the service to be extra good and attentive. That was much appreciated. Prices are similar to other Vietnamese restaurants. They accept cash, debit, credit. Location wise: Chez Lam is in a strip mall with a gas station, dollar store, massage therapy clinic, and a few more shops.

Found this place on Yelp and a good star rating and I was happy with the results. It's located at a large strip mall quite a ways away in Barrhaven - hence the name. Grabbed takeout at 8:15pm and it was good. Got 2 orders of spring rolls which were still very crispy when we got back from the 20 min drive. A little on the greasy side but they had fried it up fresh. The house special combo had shrimp, beef, pork and chicken - a decent amount of protein and tasty. While parking, I searched the strip mall to find a spot for me to order food. Barrhaven Vietnamese Restaurant popped out among all the other chains. I called in an order for pickup. When I arrived the place was moderately busy, but i was greeted immediately. The restaurant itself is very cute and cozy. I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner. As we were walking out, my children noticed someone eating pho and even requested we come back. I ordered the Vermecelli with chicken and I am so grateful I did. There was so much chicken and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Even the salad was green and fresh, along with cucumber that had been cut into tiny strips. It also came with two fried spring rolls. I prefer regular spring rolls, but they were delicious, very crispy and flakey. I prefer my vermecelli completely mixed, so I added the dressing, shut the takeout box, and shook it up. This made it easier to have noodles, greens, and chicken with every bite. I was too hungry to think to take a photo, but will add some on future visits. Definitely recommend and will absolutely be back!

It was good compared to others I've tried but still missing a flavor in the broth. Service was quick. The guy who gave us the menus handed us with a paper to write down our order but didn't speak which was fine because we understood what we had to do. Everything was cooked as we ordered and the vegetable spring rolls were amazing and piping hot when they came out. We couldn't even eat/touch them until our main dishes came out. They were also quick to refill our waters as well. Interestingly enough, the guy who handed us our menus actually finally spoke perfect English when we went to pay. The chicken was lean and a tiny bit dry, but still flavourful a tasty. The shrimp were medium sized and ok. Not that plump nor juicy, but for the price, not surprising. The spring roll was mostly wrapper and too oily for my liking. The rice dish came with fresh cucumbers and pickled radishes and pickled carrots. The vermicelli dish came with shredded lettuce and bean sprouts, which were underneath the vermicelli. It also came with pickled carrots and crushed peanuts. The fresh vegetables were fresh and the picked vegetables had a good sour bite to them. We also got a tub of fish sauce, which neither of us like, but my dad does, so I saved it and gave it to him on the weekend when I went to see my parents. I appreciated that they labelled the fish sauce with a warning to open slowly (with a smiley face, lol). Food is packed in styrofoam, which is not my preference for environmental and health reasons. Service was very courteous and efficient. I was told it would be 25 minutes. I returned in 22 minutes and they were just tying up the bag. Perfect timing! Note that the prices on their takeout menu (pictured) are outdated. My dishes were listed as $9.50 each on the menu, but I was charged $11.75, which is still a great deal. Prices have gone up as a result of the Covid Pandemic, so I get it. I would just suggest that they print new takeout menus. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path in Chinatown.
