Wow! A diamond in the rough in Ottawa. We came across this by accident, looking for another Vietnamese restaurant. No problem though. Parle is terrific! We ordered so much food (Pad Thai with chicken, Pad See Ew with beef, BBQ pork fried rice, 3 meats over vermicelli) and almost ate it all at one seating. The flavors were deep, rich and satisfying. The aromas were wonderful as well. The staff were friendly, helpful and patient. The place was clean and utensils were readily available. The prices were also reasonable. Just a great place to enjoy good Vietnamese cuisine. Try them out! read more

Overall: C // 3 stars Unclear what expectations I had going in as they won an award for best Pho in Ottawa, but I wasn't aware that Ottawa was particularly known for their award-winning Asian food. Their menu is massive, covering a wide array of dishes and cuisines. Given their award though, I had to try their combination pho, which had several reasonable cuts of beef including tendon, tripe, brisket, flank, as well as chicken interestingly enough. All of the meat was well cooked, and the broth has a pleasant sweetness to it, although it was on the verge of being too light for me, especially since a large amount of noodles can easily dilute it. What I did not enjoy in my experience, though, was that I felt like I needed to chase down the staff every step of the meal -- to be seated, to order, to get napkins, to get the bill. Visiting from out of town. I love curry beef pho from Pho Metro in the GTA. Ordered the Tom Kha Coconut Soup with chicken. I liked it. Nice serving and presentation. Good flavour. The crispy egg noodles with chicken. The crispy noodles were good. The chicken sauce/stir fry lacked flavour. Based on their Tom Kha, I would go back and try different soup/pho again. read more

This review is exclusively for the banh mi that I got for takeout. I got the Grilled Beef Banh Mi to-go. The regular price is $11.99, but I got it for $7.99 because it was Monday and that's their Sub of the Day on Mondays (I'm still a bit in shock that these days $8 for a banh mi is considered a "deal." Only 4 short years ago, I could get a banh mi in Chinatown for $4 or less and that was the regular everyday price, but I digress). The bread was a soft submarine bun, not the crunchy baguette I love with banh mi. It was long, but skinny and I like my banh mi thick, lol. The grilled beef itself was not as tender and moist as I would have liked. The meat was thinly sliced and a bit dry for my tastes, but at least the meat was lean and not fatty nor gristly. The pickled carrots were good, the pickled daikon radishes were good too but I got very little daikon. I got only one piece of cucumber :( I forgot to say "hold the cilantro" so I got cilantro, which I removed. Perhaps their other items are better. I would be open to returning to try their other items. Service was good. I ordered in the restaurant and waited there for my order. It didn't take too long. The restaurant is in the Byward Market, so paid parking only (on the street or in one of the many lots/parkades). read more

Found this place close to our hotel and after reading all the good reviews, we decided to come here for dinner. Their Pho and Vermicelli bowls are about $17/$18 which are a little pricey compared to Toronto. We got fresh shrimp rolls, grilled pork vermicelli and Pad Thai shrimp. The service was a bit slow but everything was delicious especially the grilled pork vermicelli...it was definitely worth the wait! If we visit Ottawa again, we'll definitely be coming back. read more

I got the Vietnamese pork belly banh mi with a Thai iced tea and it was genuinely quite bad. the thai tea was too diluted and had a strange aftertaste. I'm not confident it was made with real tea and the way it was staining my teeth made me suspicious of a powder being used. the banh mi had very little flavor and scant vegetables. even adding more pickles and carrots would have made it a lot better. the meat was also very fatty and was quite cold. while it was affordable I would not recommend it read more

Me and my husband were actually trying to eat at the AYCE place across the street but was a FOUR hour wait, so we immediately left and walked across the street to try this place! I had checked it out on Yelp the night before and wanted to try it so when we walked in and I recognized the neon sign on the wall I was pleasantly surprised that we ended up here after all! All of our food was delicious. The service was a bit spotty though. When I left to go to the bathroom before ordering it almost seemed like our server waited for me to leave the table to come over and ask my husband if we were ready to order, which of course we weren't because I wasn't even at the table. We thought maybe the server was just new and didn't know this wasn't proper wait etiquette but then we watched him do the exact same thing to the couple at the table next to us. I'm not sure what that was about but it was very odd. With that being said, it didnt ruin our experience and we still had a great time. The decor & paintings inside are a really great touch. read more

Until recently, Viet Fresh deemed itself a "ghost kitchen": a restaurant that operated mainly on delivery and takeout. This model operated well throughout the early years of the pandemic. Earlier this year, Viet Fresh became successful enough to open their dine-in restaurant called Parlê. I've anticipated coming here for a while. I split rocket shrimp rolls (6 for $10) with a friend and had a grilled pork vermicelli bowl for myself ($18). Both dishes were of excellent quality; the vermicelli in particular kept me going to the point that I didn't realize I was stuffed. Of course, the dining experience and atmosphere would be one of the reasons why you'd come here. It's incredibly casual and cozy. I'd also say insta-worthy; there's a pink neon (argon + xenon?) sign you can pose with that says "Feed me banh mi and tell me I'm pretty". Overall a great experience. Congrats to Viet Fresh for pulling this one off. read more

We had the ride plate combo, shrimp fresh rolls and a side of chicken broth. Everything was really good, solid food, high quality, very authentic. Vietnamese food done right in a modern/beautiful environment. The peanut sauce for the rolls was excellent, a good balance, not too sweet. read more

I was surprised by the food here. We got thdd we rare beef Pho. The soup was flavorful. Place is clean and has good decor.

Cute spot in the market. Banh mi was good. Bestie had pho and broth I was one of the more flavourful that I've had. Bathroom was a little dingy and industrial but that's to be expected of restaurants in the market. They also have one of those best selfie walls for a restaurant. Service was prompt & efficient. Staff made us feel welcomed and appreciated. read more

Two words : eat here. The whole experience was fabulous. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and amazingly fresh and flavorful dishes. There are a number of Vietnamese restaurants in By Ward Market - Parle by Viet Fresh is a strong contender amongst the bunch. We arrived around 7:30pm on a Monday and there was no wait - we were seated at a nice window table. Ordering was quick, and our food came out in just minutes. We got two "standards" - the brisket and rare beef pho and the grilled pork vermicelli bowl. The pho was excellent - broth was light and flavorful, and there was a good amount of meat. But the standout was the vermicelli - the egg roll was very long (we thought it was two egg rolls at first but it was really one cut in half) which was great for sharing, and the pork seemed freshly grilled, not just obviously reheated pre-grilled pork as is common in many places. The only ding I would give them is that the Vietnamese iced coffee is served pre-mixed in cup. I prefer it when they provide the strainer and you make your coffee at your table yourself. All in all, we had a great meal, and prices were very reasonable. We liked our food so much, in fact, that we ordered banh mis to go for future consumption (both were great once I re-toasted the bread). If you are in the By Ward Market area and are craving a great Vietnamese meal, Parle is a great choice! read more

Easily the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. Walked in with my fiancee and was happy it was not busy (maybe 4 tables). We were sat and brought water. After that, the wait staff refused to acknowledge us. We sat for 15 minutes waiting for someone to come take our order. Our server grabbed a bowl of pho and proceeded to sit down and eat it. We got up and walked towards the door, still not being acknowledged by anyone. My fiancée said thanks for the great service and we left. I would give 0 stars if I could. We will not be returning, ever. read more
