Maybe 3.5 stars, if I could, based on this experience. The restaurant has seating for 48-50 people, with some benches, and a few pictures on the wall that represent Vietnam - waterfalls, lanterns, and a stepped Asian hillside. The restaurant also has a bar near the back, as well. The waiter and waitress were welcoming and friendly, as well as very accommodating: I wanted a Pho with won tons and no beef, with egg noodles instead of rice noodles. No problem!! I requested a pho with shrimp and chicken, with these wontons, and ended up choosing from the section of the menu that specifed "Specialty Dishes", for which they offer only medium size, which ran about $12.00. Be warned, though: Medium is a LOT of Pho! The shrimp and wontons were really good, and the chicken was tasty and tender. If I would give any negative feedback on this dish, it might be that I could have tolerated an extra shrimp or 3, and a bit more chicken. But it was filling enough without the extra! The one big surprise was that the SP on the menu did not stand for SPecialty dishes, oh no - this was for SPICY!! It was delicious and I'm full... but wholly smokes! I wish I'd known "SP" did not stand for specialty dishes - it's spicy!! The ingredients were great, and I got used to it; the soup seemed less spicy by the time I got to the bottom of the bowl, but didn't expect my sinuses to get a clearing!! Oh man I can breathe!! That's not a complaint; it's a good thing! :-) I was pleasantly surprised! It was very tasty and filling. After the initial surprise, here was no lasting discomfort from the extra spice, and the waitress was quick to offer water (for which I was really grateful!) All in all, I would probably order that dish again. I look forward to going back and try other things on the menu.

    Shrimp spring rolls. $5.50.

I had dinner here with my husband and father-in-law recently and overall it was really good. My father-in-law discovered this place while running some errands nearby and suggested we try it. I'm glad that he did. I started with the Saté Beef Fresh Rolls ($5.50) and got the Vermicelli with Beef, Chicken and Pork ($13.99) as my main. My husband started with the Fried Shrimp Wontons ($5.99) and for his main he had the Shrimp Stir-Fry on Rice ($16.99). My father-in-law started with the Shrimp Spring Rolls ($5.50) and also got the Shrimp Stir-Fry for his main, but on egg noodles instead of rice ($16.99). I got 2 rolls as my starter, each cut in half. The rice paper rolls were filled with mostly vermicelli, with some lettuce, mint leaves, and a bit of beef. The beef was little bits of meat all fried up (not quite ground beef, but almost). I was expecting more actual slices of beef. The rolls came with a side of peanut sauce, which was nice and light in flavour (not too rich and didn't have that hoisin taste that peanut sauce sometimes has that I don't like). However, a lot of the little bits of meat fell into the sauce as I was dipping it and it got a bit messy. While I did not dislike it, I would order a different appetizer in the future. My husband gave me one of his fried shrimp wontons and it was delicious. The wrapper was really crispy and the filling was full of flavourful shrimp. He definitely chose better than I did for his appetizer! My father-in-law enjoyed his shrimp spring rolls. They looked a little lacking in girth, in my opinion, but at least they were long. The spring rolls are made with the usual wheat-based wrapper. If you want the more traditional rice paper wrapper, you need to order what they call "Cha Nem." My vermicelli with beef, chicken and pork was very good. I forgot to say "no bean sprouts" but it was ok, because there was just a small pile of it and I basically just ate around it, haha. Other vegetables that came with the dish were shredded lettuce, julienned carrots and matchsticked cucumbers. Vegetables were fresh and the portion size was good. The vermicelli was also good. It was the small sized vermicelli (like angel hair) which I much prefer over the large sized vermicelli (like spaghetti) that some places use for this dish. The meats were flavourful, but a tad too greasy for my liking. The chicken was lean, and while the beef and pork weren't overly fatty/gristly, I would have preferred if they were leaner. Nonetheless, I still really enjoyed my dish and I would order it again. Both my husband and father-in-law enjoyed their dishes. Each shrimp stir-fry contained 8 good sized shrimp. The vegetables in the stir-fry were red and green bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, and onions. After we had ordered, we noticed the specials written on the blackboard. They had Pad Thai, Lemongrass Chicken and other specials, including watermelon ice cream, which really caught my eye, and I would have ordered it for dessert had I not been too full. Next time we will remember to look at the board before ordering. Service was friendly and efficient. Decor is minimalist, modern and clean. You get complimentary tea when you arrive. You write down your order on the paper on the table and the server will come and get it when you're done. Condiments (hot sauce and hoisin sauce) and cutlery (chopsticks and spoons) are on the caddy at your table. If you require a fork and/or knife, ask the server and they will bring it to you. When you're done your meal, you pay at the cash register. This restaurant is located in a strip mall along with a Walmart, Subway Sandwiches, CIBC Bank and other businesses. Lots of free parking.

Had to try this restaurant After all it was recommended by Jennifer. My spouse and I enjoy Vietnamese dishes My choice, the Rare Beef with rice noodles was good. Jana tried a specialty soup with shrimp. It was slightly too spicy but ingredients were tasty. We enjoyed the Vegetable Spring rolls They were the biggest that I ever had and of course they were very good. Waitress was pleasant, helpful and courteous We must return to try specials advertised on blackboard

Verdict: A win every time! This will be quick and simple. I've been here many times, and every time the service has been great, the food has been incredible, and there is never a wait to be seated. Will continue to come here for years to come.

During my stay in Ottawa Ontario on a recent May 2016 trip, I found this Vietnamese restaurant on Yelp before flying with Air Canada from HNL. I learned that Authentic Vietnamese Pho House achieved an average of 4.5 stars, so it must be fantastic! While looking back at my experience of this business, it genuinely was an awesome experience, especially when the large bowl of Pho is genuinely large, larger than some "large" bowls I've found elsewhere during my travels in the USA and even in other provinces in Canada. This is my unofficial quest to have a bowl of Vietnamese Pho in each of the Canadian provinces. This would be #5 here in Ottawa (Ontario) and it's quite nice to be able to be here. I'm glad that Pho and Vietnamese cuisine is readily available anywhere around the world nowadays and it makes me happy. Thankful for Yelp for providing an online directory of businesses to help us search for what we want - especially when we are traveling wherever life takes us. So, here I was at Authentic Vietnamese Pho House Vietnamese restaurant in Ottawa, ON. It was a random Friday afternoon and it was nice to be able to have that quietness here. I was coming back from Fitzroy Harbor and decided to make a pit stop for lunch here. Checked yelp, got GPS directions and here I was! The ambiance was quite nice and the service here was quite good and positive. The server dude was a young kid, I think was about college age. I asked the server how large the large was really. Even the guy in the far corner was taking down a large, so I opted for that. I mean, how large could the bowl be? Authentic Vietnamese Pho House Vietnamese restaurant is located at 5373 Fernbank Road in Ottawa. The restaurant itself is enclosed within a nice shopping center. Pretty much everything and anything you'd need is here. The inside of the restaurant is quite nice and the decorations made everything look pretty and beautiful. They accept credit cards, which is always a big plus for me. The prices here is in line with most of the Vietnamese restaurants I've been though already in the USA and Canada. With bowls of Pho are small or large, averaging $8 to $12 per bowl is pretty darn good really. I ultimately ordered the large bowl of Pho, the fancy Pho with quail egg, adequately known on the menu as P30. Along with that meal, I ordered a side dish of fresh summer shrimp rolls, which were packed for take out. They also were pretty good really. The P30 "large" Pho itself was as good as ever. It was larger than most large bowls I've ever seen. Possibly top 10 ever. I ordered extra noodles with this and asked for extra bean sprouts too. With extra broth, you need the extras to soak up every little bit of the experience. I know I did and got ridiculously full from it. Worth it. For what it's worth, this Authentic Vietnamese Pho House Vietnamese restaurant in Ottawa, Ontario is well worth your time and energy to check out, if you are in the area. The proof is in the average yelp rating and you'd probably would love to come here, if it weren't for the long car ride or the price of airline tickets. This place is good for group dining with family or friends, or tourists like me, who love a good bowl of Pho at an affordable price. Can be used for lunch or dinner dates, if you'd like. It's great for lunch and dinner, or any time you'd feel like feeding your Pho fix. Authentic Vietnamese Pho House cuisine is always a winner. I would recommend coming here for your next meal or two. The service, as aforementioned before, is good, subtle, and positive. You can get in and out within 30-45 minutes, depending how much you are eating and how much time you'd like to spend here. Enjoyed the ambiance though on a casual Friday lunch while vacationing in Ottawa. Quite satisfying really. :) 4.5 stars. Can't complain! Especially with the truly large bowl! The quail egg is bad ass too. Support local! B+

Finally the choices for Vietnamese food out this way are getting better. I've eaten here twice and found the food delicious (see my photos). Prices are also reasonable. Service was exceptional. One thing I've notice though, and maybe it's just me, is i could have more rice with my rice and beef dish. If you're in the area or live in the area this is a good choice to consider if you're craving Vietnamese food

The food is high quality - often locally sourced and organic. Dahl soup was tasty, with just a hint of heat from the spice. Chicken taco filling was tasty but... and I think this is where I'm struggling... I am realizing that I really don't like soft tacos. Something about the texture of the taco itself puts me off. I'm sitting here trying to decide if I'm being fair giving them a three because of my preference for taco shells. I guess what I'm saying is: take my review with a (proverbial) grain of salt. Would love to see a garbage can and recycling bin put out. Since they are located on the UOttawa campus during school year, plan to bus/walk to get there. (Parking is a pain during the week.) If you get off at Campus Station 2B, Sweetpea (the truck) is really close by. (Don't take my word for it though - things change, so make sure you check on that.) Staff was great. They have 2 tables and about 6 chairs for people who want to sit and eat for a bit. Would I return: Yes. I'd love to go again when it's not Taco Thursday, to try to get a different menu item. Would I recommend: Yup - if you like healthy choices that are locally sourced and organic, this is a great option.

Both fillings were unusually sweet and one noted. The skins were also odd, most of the dumplings and xiaolong bao came burst open already, as the skin has some obvious weak points that were very thin, but where the pleats were the dough was so thick it had a line of undercooked flour. All in all I'm glad we stuck to one order only and did not get more. They are very busy and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. But I recently learned that they got a new location in Ottawa, closer to home! Aaaaand here I am finally! Their menu has several different XLB flavors. One basket comes with 10 pieces and if you prefer you can do half and half with $1 extra. XLb size is a bit bigger than many other places. The wrapper was hand pleated and thin, which i appreciated. We ordered the following XLBs. 16 Pork & shrimp & scallop 18 Juicy lamb and coriander 20 Juicy pork & crab 36 Krobuta Pork and summer truffle (special menu. $19.99 for 5pcs.) Best was crab meat one. The soup was a bit sweet for my liking but integration of skin, soup and meat was smooth and had good crab flavor. Pork and summer truffle was also good. The soup was not sweet, which I appreciated about. Simple, unique and smooth. Shrimp & scallop did not have the seafood "flavor" that I expected in this one. Yes each piece had a little bay scallop piece but this chunk, IMHO, hindered the texture. Not as smooth as other kinds of XLBs and had less soup. Least liked flavour was lamb. The gamy flavor was too strong to be suitable for this simple and delicate steamed dumpling style. And a bit oily. We also had the following dumplings: 21 Pork and cabbage (pan fried) 27 Shrimp and cabbage (pan fried) Both looked nice with beautiful fried wing. But the dumpling itself was dry and bland. Another note: They do not have complimentary tea. You will have to pay $7 for one pot. We chose not to order tea and ate with water. You will have to stop a server to ask for filling the glass. They do not voluntarily come to the table to pour in empty glasses. Additional note: XLBs do not come with julienned ginger! The service was unfortunately unattentive although we were here off-peak hours.

Still, everything we needed was taken care of. The food was fresh, portions were generous, and prices felt fair. I especially appreciated that their pancake wasn't overly oily like you often find elsewhere. Dishes leaned on the milder side which made it easy to enjoy everything. The kimchi was a little salty, but the pickled radish was a nice balance. Big plus: they serve Asahi draft, which you don't see everywhere. The bowl looks large but there isn't much in it, and considering rice cakes aren't that expensive I'm surprised they gave so little. The chicken drumsticks were tasty, but a tad dry. Overall, service is attentive and food is good. However, I think I have other places that I prefer for Korean fried chicken in Ottawa.
